I look at it this way, my sibling can marry whoever they want to. This has nothing to do with me. If they are a garbage man or an CEO. As long as they are happy.......this is what matters. And not all wedding have to be lavish. Sometimes simple is so much better and nicer then fancy.
Carol doesn't give a damn about you or your "future"... she was clearly trying to ruin the wedding..if she's showed you nothing but disdain throughout your life.....why even tell her about your upcoming nuptials, let alone invite her?.. you have to take a hint when someone hates you. Family or not, keep them out of your life when they serve no purpose in it. Carol is obviously jealous, bitter and miserable. People that are content in their life doesn't spend their energy to hurt other's.
@youmadhuh6375 trust me when I say this, as someone who has 3 step siblings; hate is often grown, not born with. The parents were more at fault in this case because they just ghosted the both of them, all just for their careers. It is hard to better judge the situation tho, as we don't have all the info, like what job they had, or who took direct care of them after the grand parent's passing. However, it shouldn't be any surprise to me that the parents' neglectful behavior is what influenced MC's sister to do worst actions, as she wouldn't have any frames of reference on true love. In short; Neglectful parents and the sister's narcissistic views have only grown to hate, and was her true downfall. I am sure even hateful people had a time in their lives of reluctant lip service in their minds before being set in their ways, after all.

They don’t spend a massive amount of time and money editing them and normalizing the events of the story to fit US cultural norms. You get what you get.
