    Nice build/project!!! I have a family member selling a 85 with a custom flatbed camper (ugly) on it. If I buy it was going to try and find a short bed and call it day. Now I'm thinking of keeping the flat bed and build some kind of custom off road/camping/overland truck with custom jockey boxes and removable hoops so I can add a roof tent. Thanks for posting!!! Just subscribed :)

    What is the difference between a 4Runner and pickup leaf springs. Just picked up a very nice 4Runner with frowning leafs. There seems to be part number difference with the truck and 4Runner and I just want to lift it 3 inches above what factory was. Any help would be great.

    Lockers, hell yeah...a Detroit in the rear, and a Tru-Trac in the front...make sure to do the math for the correct gear selection based upon tire size, 4.88's are good up to 33's...I had an '88 with a 22RE that I built up with all kinds of Downey parts, lifted with 32x11.50 BF Goodrich MT, 4.88's(front and rear) and a Detroit(bulletprrof) in the rear and a Tru-Trac in the front, that truck would go just about anywhere with that combination...

    Even from a very young age, I have always loved almost anything with four wheels and an engine. When I became a teenager, my dad told me we would start looking for a vehicle for me if I didn't want the Camaro that my parents gave my sister. I thought I wanted something with a little more utility and I'm glad I held out on that. My dad knew whatever I had, I would try and drive it fast like kids do so he limited my options. He told me I could get a 4 cylinder truck with 4wd or I could get a 6 cylinder 2wd truck. I immediately went searching high and low to determine what the best 4 cylinder 4wd was for a reasonable first truck price. Natural I landed on the 84-89 Toyota trucks and 4runners and I liked them both from everything I could tell about them. They were really the first vehicles I ever truly wanted more then just any other old thing I saw. My dad was well aware of what I wanted and was looking for but I think he tried to steer the other way. Finally I turn 15 and I'm given a 1994 Chevy S10 2wd with more clear coat missing then what's left but I absolutely used it for anything and everything I had to. Eventually I made enough money to upgrade that for something else and I'm enjoying what I have now but with a couple thousand in the bank burning a hole in my pocket, I'm searching for an 84-85 4runner. I have to ask, where do you guys go to find these? I don't totally expect to find anything very solid but I just want to get in one, drive it anywhere it will take me and enjoy it before I put substantial money into the reality that will probably be fixing the body rot. With enough money to my name to be on the market for something cheap and fun, I really have to ask, where is it that you guys find these old trucks? If it needs maintenance but will run isn't far from driving, that would be ideal for me due to what I want to spend.
    Thoroughly enjoy your content, keep up the good work and I look forward to what will come in the future of this channel.

    • @DirtGarage
      @DirtGarage  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's quite the novel! These trucks are amazing. And we find them mostly from online classifieds ads. I make them look alot better on camera!

    • @hunterbrock2347
      @hunterbrock2347 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've been looking for one since I've had a little money burning a hole in my pocket. I don't want the cream of the crop as far as these go, I would rather have one that's rough around the edges and on the side of cheaper but right now they're either to nice and expensive or ragged out completely and parted out to some extent.

    So you put the rears on the front🤔. What about spring hanger relocation? I'm guessing you skipped that?
    I've got an 85 4runner(Sherman Tank). Installing 63' right now (trail gear kit). Been looking for good used square body 52's for the front. Not found any shackle kits for those.🤨
    While I'm into it, putting my front disk brakes on the 86 rear and the 86 hubs on the 85. Discovered(the hard way) I need to change out my rotors for 80 and up fj front rotors(with a little modification). Here's to hoping it works! 🍻 Need to be done for EJS in a few weeks. 😬 Have a few other things I'm trying to finish for ejs, too...Marlin Crawler and a winch bumper.

    • @DirtGarage
      @DirtGarage  ปีที่แล้ว

      Spring hanger relocation was not necessary. Stock rear was 48. Later swapped to Trail Gear 3" lift springs that are also 48", same ones i used on my 89 SAS Pickup.
