Dude.. that was hilarious! I was initially ashamed to put this book on my Goodreads for my friends to see, but eventually had to accept that I have a soft spot for cheesy predictable fantasy, this is definitely a guilty pleasure for me and it is so fun to hear you pick at it as well
Just finished this series overall series was amazing to me. The first few books were rough but the ending where SJM she brings it around is just amazing. The concept of the story is amazing but agree the writing is rough. If you continue the series I can’t wait to see what you think of my favorite character in the series. They don’t show up until Heir of Fire.
As they came to that ceremonial drink scene in the book, I superstitiously started chanting to myself _"The pellet with the poison's in the vessel with the pestle. The chalice from the palace has the brew that is true"_

Accurate. It doesn’t get interesting until heir of fire unfortunately, it’s a solid series for the most part but has its issues. I made the hilarious mistake of reading Shades of Magic right before this so I was drawing comparisons throughout ToG to that (and thinking how I wanted to be reading Shades of Magic again and not tog, so the Delilah bard comment 💀🤣)
Also take in the fact she was super young and this was her first book ... I think but yea I did not like this book after reading acotar series and crescent City. Thx for the summary on to book 2 ;)
I struggle bussed the first books like what the hesmana am I reading. I have a feeling you will love the same characters I do in future books so I’m here for it. I’m also finding that hat pretty spiffy 😂 care to share its origin story?!
It was so hard to read, I was so mad about her getting taken out bc she drank the wine LOL I wasn't gonna read anymore I'm on Queen of Shadows now🤣🤣 book two redeemed the writing 😜 SJM must have drank a potion of writing better bc by heir of fire it's good to go 🤣🤣
The writing improves as you go, she started writing this book when she was like 16, but was around 30 when the final book came out.
