That block is not to extend the shock. It goes inside the factory lower shock bracket and acts as a nut; run a bolt up through the bottom of the stock bracket- this prevents the drop bracket from pivoting on the side bolts.

So the only things you disconnected to get the spring out was the shock and the sway bar?

Yes and take the speed sensor clips out of the frame, and lastly take the bolt out of the brake line tee.
