  • It's October 1991 and we see a varirty of action in Hertfordshire. Starting out with the East Coast Main Line from the line path at Potters Bar we see some Inter-City action with 125 HST's and a 91 plus two class 90 hauled Charter trains and a now departed pair of 313 units. Over at Radlett we are at Harper Lane near the Redlands stone terminal. Here we see some class 60 action, including a pair on a Redlands stone working. At this time the 60s were new and being commissioned which is why a pair were together on the same train. Some HST and 47s on freight workings complete the views here before we head over to between the Hadley Wood Tunnels where we finish off with some NSE 313 & 317 action along with a 47 on a parcels working plus a 91 & HST on Inter-City workings. If you liked the video please subscribe to my channel, there are lots more transport & quirky vids to upload!

    Great video. Loved the variety of freights and locos. Golden archives you have there. Keep 'em coming.

    A lot of fun to watch this one.
    I never knew the HST had an electric cousin.
    I normally don't like that YT feature that starts playing videos as you browse them, but I probably wouldn't have watched if I didn't see that HST in full flight at the beginning...

    The couple of class 60 in coal sub-sector livery fresh out of the paint shop look good ahead of the Redland PGA hoppers (@ 3.35).

      Yes, they used that working regularly for mileage accumulation on the 60s which is why it was double headed. The weight of the train was only around 2000 tons, well within the capabilites of a 60 which could work the Mendip Rail jumbos from Westbury if needed, and they were 4800 tons.....

      That was superb. I'd love to model that formation in N gauge, but there has been no Saloon released in InterCity livery yet.

    Observation Saloon on the end of that second class 90 hauled charter. Matching pair of Class 60s, presumably brand new and running in

      This was mid-week when i filmed this so i can't remember where the charters were going, maybe racing specials?......Most charters ran at weekends. And yes, the 60s were now and ran in pairs on the Radlett Redlands train at this time to accumulate mileage for acceptance by BR. Funny to think now some have been scrapped!

    The railfreight metals liveried 47 hauling the parcels train, is 47599. It had, in fact, only recently been transfered from Railfreight to Parcels.

    • @SoiBuakhaoRoutemasterbus
      @SoiBuakhaoRoutemasterbus  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Back in the late 90s GNER wanted to run more services, and 91s were undergoing mods, a 90 would be out most days. Normally on a Leeds service where more of the route was 110mph or under to save loosing too much time.....And that use of 90s went right up to a yaer or so back, and again mostly on Leeds runs.....

    The prevailing problem with railways these days is there is not nearly as much variety, and the new stock is needed without doubt, and are more efficient, but the railways have little character nowadays, their quite sterile, the ecml only has 387, 700 717 emu, a few class 91 and azuma units, with grand central and hull trains dmus - interspersed with a few freights, mostly 66 locos hauling them
