- 100 minutes - Re-enactments of rural life in the second half of the year in Bygone Days. Wall building, churning, corn cutting, scythe work, hurling ball making, traveller culture, threshing day, thatching, rural festivals and twig dance, seannchai, wheel making, country house dance and much more. Narration, dialogue and music. You will learn much about the world of your grand parents!
Simpler times, hear the sound of the corncrake near the end 😊
My hubby built dry stane walls and flag stane walls, a dying art now. He wasn't Irish but Scottish, from Caithness. He's been dead now for 20 years, yet his walls still stand
Glad you saw video and that hubby's wall still stand strong
Much of thus was exactly the same in old Britain.
I remember helping the Rattigans bring in their corn in the 60tie in Irishtown Mayo. They had a lovely thatched cottage. I brought the cows from the field for my uncle Matie Sheridan. I loved the country life. The people were so friendly then. So much has changed. I loved Mayo and would have loved to make a life there but alas that was not to be.
I am with you every word of your comment. I too grew up but in the West. I am far across the ocean now for many years. Those were the best of times ☘️💗
The only Rattigans you hear about these days are drug dealers.
Lovely memory - Did you come from England of Irish background?
Well focused, building that wall with a Corn crake making its noise in the background.
So simple and uncomplicated happy days if only we knew.thank God and Lord have mercy on the people who have gone thought they were here for ever.
Ahh yes the uncomplicated Cold War .😂
I remember about 30 years ago when working on a show at the Abbey Theatre in Dublin, there was a young lad of no more than 16 years old brought in to build a circular wall from dry stone.
It took him about a week, and if I remember correctly, he was one of the last his kind, keeping the traditional alive.
How he put it together was amazing. And his overall temperament was one of pure patience. Meditative work for sure.
God Bless Éireann. ☘️🇮🇪🕊️
God bless Ireland.

The genius of the clever, hardworking, inventive and musical Irish...including John Lennon-Paul McArtney-George Harrison--Kevin Rowland---Bono U2---Springsteen(verified )--Dusty--and many many dozens more. Kennedy and dozens of Irish American Presidents Ireland, --The land of saints, scholars...and Genius!
A special land indeed
I never had them, but I want them ,too
I’m 53 now
The summers In Ireland in 70”s and 80’s were really good apart from 86 it was worse than 2023
Great memories. 1 year out of 20 is not too bad!
Very similar in every way to rural Northern England.
Dont say that, don't you know everyone on the Internet hates anything English?
Lots of similarities indeed
A but the sausages are much better
Were often told what we've gained in this modern world Well What about what we've Lost. David
Very nice.
So wonderful that at aged 16 I had no option but to leave and find hope abroad.
Stay gone for you're not wanted.
Well if you stayed around long enough you would have found hope instead you ran.
Many brave men and woman left to work abroad. The Irish spirit has travelled so well around the world
Be nice, it does not cost you anything. My grandfather said to me one time 'if you have nothing good to say - say nothing at all'
0:50 he usually smokes when he repairs his thatched roof, yet he also wonders why his roof is on fire on a regular basis. I blame the Brits! All of the sudden at 2:29 duck sounds - the beginning of the end!
Our beautiful Israelite ancestors & their rustic agrarian way of life.
It will be a joyous time on earth for all our kin when we are all together again in the kingdom of Heaven serving our God.
Praise Yahweh.
I didn’t know Irish are Israelite ancestors.
What are you talking about, what have they got to do with Ireland.
@@taraann7753 look into your history... Tea tephi.
Please DO NOT equate the modern day jewish race as Israelites. It is a blasphemous lie they use to deceive the whole world. They are edomites, decended from esau/edom.
The White race of which Christ is one (he is most certainly NOT a "jew") is decended of Jacob/Israel.
The White race are the Israelites who are God's children who are promised by God their father to inherit the earth.
Why do you think every mongrel race wants to eliminate the White Christian race.
You are Christian by race, whether you believe our bible/God or not.

What an adventure, thanks for sharing
What's the name of the poem here?
need more tent dwelling Doctors and Engineers for cultural enrichment.
I used to cut my uncles Fields with a smile many years ago na god bless that old Gray Massey
Yes it seems like only yesterday, however it’s 60 plus years ago. The simple folk are long gone to a better place. Everyone thought, if only we could have a life like in New York oCanada, now it’s if only we could have a life like they had 60 or 70 years ago.
Interesting point, thanks for sharing
I thought a well built traditional stone wall didn't need cement.
Wasn’t well built so.
What you say is true, in more recent years concrete was added to the building of some stone walls, especially fancy stone walls built around houses.
Donnacha Macgowan, exactly, it doesn’t matter!
By the way my little grandson is called Donnacha 😊 it’s a lovely name!
It doesn't. Doesn't mean cement can't benefit it.
In the old days they had no cement but clay.
Bygone for sure - Miss Ireland be a black African nowadays!
For shame. You're an embarrassment.
It’s truly sad one evil people came here and force us to speak there false language, but holy and strong men fought back and broke our chains, but now many evil peoples come here to force us back in the chains and we don’t even know what a man is, may god save Éire
@@MsMStitchwhy have shame and be embarrassed for wanting your land to be free
“I speak to my people, and I speak in my people’s name to
The masters of my people:
I say to my people that they are holy,
That they are august despite their chains.
That they are greater than those that hold them
And stronger and purer,
That they have but need of courage…
And I say to my people’s masters: Beware,
Beware of the thing that is coming, beware of the risen people” -Pádraig Pearse

Two very well dressed stone masons?¿???
Rural people in Northern England and Ireland still dress like this for everyday manual work. My dad did every day.
Good hard and creative work is good for the soul
JOINING EUROPE SOON PUT AN END TO THAT WONDERFUL WAY AND ONLY WAY Of life .evil had arrived
WTF are you on about 🙄
@@wlj344 now it is generic gentrification, political nonsense correctness and ludicrous celebrities
You’re some idiot.
Well of course rule from Brussels is no different than Westminster, and just like we have the Orange order and now see the coming blue order that holds this land hostage, plundering and killing it for nothing more but dead money, tho we lived in poverty “years ago” men and women could make a decent living and raise a family, and these men and women were gallant, holy and Champions of our land
Now we’re all freezing in the streets unable to make a living or even warm ourself with stuff like turf but don’t worry the people who hold our chains will harm you for knowing what a man or woman is
Ye been poor was great craic
