@Opachki Robb was originally acknowledging that Stannis should be the king, but the Northern Lords didn’t want to fight for the South and had all called upon Robb to break off from The Seven Kingdoms and become an independent king for them. Stannis knew that he was legally the rightful heir to all _seven_ of the kingdoms, and not just _six_ of them. So he saw what Robb was doing as technically being a traitorous action towards his inheritance by taking away one of his kingdoms. I believe if Stannis could have simply allowed Robb to style himself as a “King,” but still swear fealty to Stannis on The Iron Throne (which is more like an Imperial title above kings), it could have possibly worked out. I think neither of them would have been very happy with such an outcome, but if they could have agreed to it, their combined forces would have been unbeatable.

The way they killed Stannis is disgraceful. He became a completely unrecognizable character. They reduced him to less than meaningless now. What was the point of his character in the show? He has a larger purpose. Even if he dies in the books, he united the wildlings and the Northmen while Jon Snow sat at Castle Black and did nothing. Even if he dies and Jon is named KITN like he is in the show, Stannis made that possible. In the show? He was reduced to being a waste of screen time. Shame. One of the best fictional characters ever, murdered by the writing staff. Stephen Dillane did a wonderful job despite of that.

My favourite part of ASOIAF is when the wall is under siege and a nights watchman constantly insists Robert is coming to save them, when Stannis arrives it's such a triumphant victory as he's saved the realm. Yet the show have to take a masterpiece and dumb it down with good and bad, making Jon, Tyrion and Dany the only characters worth anything, ignoring their flaws and giving them plot armour and Drogon ex machina. You've misunderstood how succession works. The male line does take precedence over the female but that puts Dany before any of the Baratheons because she is of the male line.

God, Stannis was the baddest dude ever. He was the only one with balls to storm King's Landing and nearly made it with puny numbers. He didn't give a shit, he was the rightful heir and that's that. No nonsense, that throne was his. Then, to be misled by a sorceress and driven to madness by visions of his victory, only led to his demise. To sacrifice his daughter was enough to drive half his force away, the rest utterly depressed with no morale, up against the worst kind of torturous and psychotic house in Westeros, and fighting his ass to the bitter end and surrendering to another's simple duty, because that was the best way to die, honorably. He was a just man, through and through. He was the one true king, and he got buried for it.

The second of three brothers, ignored and given a hard time by nearly everybody no matter what he did, driven by an iron desire for law and order to claim an iron chair he doesn't want no matter how many desperate situations he's thrown into, ultimately he's an ultimate example of how the second son of a family is sidelined and ignored in favor of the older and younger brothers and yet he keeps going out of sheer stubbornness. No matter how many times he was stuck in a lousy situation, he always got out it. If Robert's life was a colossal joke, Stannis's life was one of how sheer determination goes is aided or hindered by luck.

God, Stannis was the baddest dude ever. He was the only one with balls to storm King's Landing and nearly made it with puny numbers. He didn't give a shit, he was the rightful heir and that's that. No nonsense, that throne was his. Then, to be misled by a sorceress and driven to madness by visions of his victory, only led to his demise. To sacrifice his daughter was enough to drive half his force away, the rest utterly depressed with no morale, up against the worst kind of torturous and psychotic house in Westeros, and fighting his ass to the bitter end and surrendering to another's simple duty, because that was the best way to die, honorably. He was a just man, through and through. He was the one true king, and he got buried for it.
12:20 just want to give a shout out to Stannis' captain. Loyal until the end, died heroically fighting alongside the king and can be seen walking forward to defend him to the death.

Stannis Baratheon. Probably the most complicated character in the entire series, books or show. The second of three brothers, ignored and given a hard time by nearly everybody no matter what he did, driven by an iron desire for law and order to claim an iron chair he doesn't want no matter how many desperate situations he's thrown into, ultimately he's an ultimate example of how the second son of a family is sidelined and ignored in favor of the older and younger brothers and yet he keeps going out of sheer stubbornness. No matter how many times he was stuck in a lousy situation, he always got out it. If Robert's life was a colossal joke, Stannis's life was one of how sheer determination goes is aided or hindered by luck.
He is my king, to my final days.
