The deluxe part of this album is so deep. Definitely gives perspective to what the individual members of the group go through even though it looks like everything is awesome.
Every time I listen to "Never Gonna Cry Again" I am struck by how much it FEELS like something deeply personal to Mitch, in particular. This is just my own gut reaction, not based on more than various comments I've read here and there. I know that when Superfruit stopped putting out videos back in 2018, part of that was just because Pentatonix was needing the bulk of their focus and they just didn't have time, but I've read that Mitch has said he never again wanted to do a vlog, and I wonder how much of that is because he was always "on" during the recordings, not being himself, but rather this personality that the internet would love. Those lyrics just read deep.
Fun facts: In a live that Kevin and Matt did after the album dropped they shared a couple of things I thought were very interesting. The first one was about "side". They said that the whole time the three of them were writing and recording it, they were smiling and laughing so hard and so happy. They said its such a sad song but they were not sad while making it. Second fun fact is about Matt sounding EXACTLY like a bass guitar. He said he had to take 3 or 4 passes at it before he got the right sound. I tweeted him and told him that was incredible, bc no one else that I know can do that.
Thanks for this, Newfie. great reaction. "Side" and "Never Gonna Cry Again" are so beautiful Mitch's vocals are outstanding and the lyrics are powerful, beautiful and haunting. "Bored' is a fun song, with a catchy beat and again Mitch's "I just wanna be bored" is so catchy. First time hearing "Shape". Thanks for your interpretations of all the lyrics. PTX originals are superb.
What a great reaction, thank you! Side and NGCA are my favs from this fantastic album, Mitch's voice in these two songs hits me hard and Matt's bass underneath is pure gold.. Love your interpretation of the lyrics too!
“Shape” for me means the shape of the sign your reading/looking at, signs are always in one form of shape/color depending on what direction you need to follow…so the shape in MPO is the “exit sign”.
I'm sad I won't get to hear some of the others, but I get what I get with TH-cam 🤷🏻♀️ Mitch wrote Never Gonna Cry Again. You're right enough about the meaning... think Superfruit. "I have a dark side that you'll never see" was especially telling for me, knowing it was his song.
Go to their channel and subscribe, listen to any songs and albums they've come out with. It's nice to listen to other people's reaction but no hardship to listen to any of their songs on their TH-cam channel. That's what you can get on TH-cam also.
I think it's "tidal waves and highlights have a dark side". But yeah, I don't think Mitch wants to be a vlogger anymore. Bored is kind of catchy, but somehow borrowing the hook from a song ("Bring Your Own Bombs" by System of a Down) that is about war seems a bit weird. I do love the album. It feels very personal to them.
Love all four of these songs. I have to give credit to Exit Signs though. I was having a bad case of writer's block and I put Exit Signs on repeat and finished the last 40K of the book within a week. The song applied to the book so well that it just led the way. Then, when I needed a lighter feel, I switched to Bored and A Little Space. The older I get, the more I realize one type of creativity definitely leads to another.
These four tracks are on the original album. The deluxe tracks are a bit hard to find because they are not included on "The Lucky Ones" album on the PTXofficial page. I think there are five -- "You're Out", "Petals", "Anchor", "Easy Love" and Midnight in Tokyo". Will you be reacting to those on Patreon?

Never gonna cry again was my fav until I heard Anchor and Petals. Now tough choice!
Anchor is definitely my favorite. It holds a special meaning for me but also arrangement and lyric-wise it's such a genius song.

Love that you really listen to the lyrics and not just the music. Great reaction.
My interpretations of the songs were on the same line as mine! Love that whole album! Great Reaction!!
Why do I always hit the reply button before I proofread lmao! same line as yours I meant.
I love this album. Listen to it daily . Anchor is my favorite song. It's on the deluxe portion of the album. Thx Eddie 😎

Heavily under-rated ptx album.
"Always starts with a shape-" that line means to me a diamond, as in a diamond ring (the promise of "always" and forever...)

If you look at it from the perspective of the person he's singing to maybe he, the singer, is the problem.
