Thanks for watching guys and gals, this one holds a special place in my heart since I became more and more obsessed by the story as I progressed, to the point of absolutely LOVING it by the final few episodes of the second part. See you in Part 2/2!

One of the reasons it's so good is because, while you know it won't outright kill the main characters, (the operator and captain) the other characters, they could die at any time, and it wants you to feel this.

Bloody Reina truly is born during that confrontation with Annette. I love how determined she was. How she shows just how far she'll go to save her squad. She scares the heck out of Annette to the point she calls her the Devil. 86 is one of my favorite anime ever. Soundtrack is amazing, presentation is on point, characters are amazing, truly a great art piece.
This anime episode 22 is one of the best well directed and animated episodes in the entire decade, possibly even of all time in anime And it was the director's first time directing an action anime. It's a classic
The transition from young Lena "slapping" Shin's brother into the blank shells is absolutely amazing, I never get tired of seeing that! And the music, OMG! Hiroyuki Sawano was the perfect choice for this anime!
Not. Fair. I had to cry so many more times watching this. You have no idea how many times I've watched this anime and reactions to it, and ALL of the same moments get me EVERY DAMNED TIME. 86 is one of the most beautiful visual media projects I've ever seen, and one of the most heartbreaking stories I've ever heard. Anime Wins is always a win.
Relatable . I cry reading the LN, rewatching the anime or just watching reactions and reviews. I feel like 86 has conditioned me to cry just by seeing something related to the show.
Seriously. That battle scene in ep. 5 was so well done, so impactful, and so harrowing I've watched it a million times. The chaos of the battle, the voices of the black sheep, Lena's panicked screaming, Shin trying desperately to calm her down WHILE guiding his Juggernaut around the battlefield, the music, and then, gradually getting louder, Kaie's "shini taku ari". Jesus Christ, one of the best battle scenes ive ever seen animated. It really goes to show how experienced Spearhead is though... Lena's freaking out because its her first time hearing the voices... The rest of the squadron though... Its just another day on the battlefield.
@ZyGarde The Fatal Scythe (ZyGarde2_2) for the last 2 episodes they ended up losing their time slot to air the episodes due to delays, and we had to wait 86 days until they came out.
The best part about this anime is it's symbolism and detail. You don't notice it too much when you first watch it, but example is Lena's room gets darker as more is revealed.
Something to note about the very final scene of the first part. Where Shin's brother is in a dreamscape with his armor and carries him to his 'next place' That is actually a completely literal example of what is happening. The legion commanders have a failsafe that puts their minds into a backup unit if they were to die. The unit that he ended up in was old and breaking down and is the one that ambushed them in the final moment knowing they wouldn't make it to their destination. Instead he uses his position as a commander of the legion to pick them all up and take them to a safe place. You can actually see the corpse of that backup unit for a brief moment in the first episode of the second part and it explains why the leaders and scientists in the new place they end up are so extremely warry of them. Since they were literally brought to them by a giant fuckoff legion robot. Its something you wouldn't even realize unless you read the books or someone told you because the show doesn't actually tell you the dream scene is actually real.
This is quite simply the best anime adaptation of a light novel I have ever seen. From animation, CGI, music (thank you, Hiroyuki Sawano), sound, and pacing (part 1 encompassed one volume plus a little bit extra, including anime-original content that added to the story being told), it was about as about as perfect as an adaptation could get... and then they dropped the second half of the season and that was even better than part 1. It helps that Asato Asato is writing a masterpiece-level LN series, but the care that A-1 Pictures took in its adaptation was unreal. I honestly cannot wait until we get S2 of 86.
there is a season 2 and its been out for awhile now unless your calling that part 2 by accident. either way even if it ended here and we never had more from this anime i would have still been perfectly content as it goes so well with the anime that their fate was set in stone since the start and that they knew they weren't going to survive
@@Tainted_Delusion it's not an accident to call it "part 2" - the accident was the mistranslation by calling it "season 2" in the first place. It was all one season.

All I can say is if you have been on the fence about watching this show....gat off the fence and hit play , You will not be dissapointed
It legitimately hurt me when CDAWGVA said that this show was mid at the year this came out and after i finished the final episode i was immediately waiting for part two
The music composer for 86, Sawano Hiroyuki, is in fact also the composer for the music in Attack on Titan. They've also composed for series such as Gundam, Re Creators, Seven Deadly Sins, Kabanare of Iron Fortress and more.
I loved this show. It was the first anime that inspired me to go read the light novel. I’m really happy to see it get the attention it deserves. Great video.
You know, what's wonderful is that both in novel and anime first season/volume is able to be viewed as completely standalone piece. The story is over. The 86, made their way into abyss. The Handler, reconciled with the fact that sometimes there is nothing she can do at times, decided to do what she can here and now. It's absolutely wonderful and great.
This show is the best directed anime ive seen and it did every episode. The animation, soundeffects, voice acting and soundtract were damn perfect! A1 did suffer delay on weekly release just to make sure they deliver a 10/10 episodes, and it was frustrating. But the finale, i cried buckets goddamnit!
One thing i really loved was the use of fido and showing his memeories. To me fidos memories are taken in the home video style where a parent would document important moments in the growth of their children and showing how theyve grown and lost was a great way to show the contrast from begining to end. And fidos sacrifice had me scream and cry for a robot. The only other media to do that to me was titanfall2 in BT and Ethan in infinte warfare. Its something about the nature of robots and how authors personify a non human to make you care. Just like how One piece made me cry for a boat.
6:47 I know that I'm kinda late to the party but this shot is a gigantic win for me. Seeing that the enemy uses *actual* projectiles, APFSDS in this particular scene is honestly mind-blowing. Almost every time it's just a generic red glowing orb that goes boom.
About the music you are indeed right. this animes ost and a large part of Aot was done by the legendary Hiroyuki sawano and the same vocalist who i cant remember the name of unfortunately.

I have been waiting for this EGA for a really long time. So happy to see you doing my all time favorite piece of media. I highly recommend seeing the breakdowns of the direction of certain episodes because it really shows how much effort the director put into each scene.

I have been hoping you would do this anime. So much. It is genuinely one of the best things I have ever watched and I'm so happy to see someone really digging into how awesome it is!
This anime...you both hate and love how much it hurts you. It doesn't hold back on the sorrow of war, and makes sure you feel every second of it. Seeing them trying to be themselves, but slowly, they fall one by one, until finally, there are only 5 left who must leave to survive. No movie, game, or show has made me feel the things I felt watching this one, and I'm so grateful I was there to watch it every week. Thank you for winning this one, and I REALLY hope to see part 2 soon.
Looking forward to seeing how the second half takes you for an emotional ride. Not gonna lie, that part with his brother where Shin was crying still makes me tear up. Even in this video.
6:44 I am not sure about the singer, but the song composer is Hiroyuki Sawanon, who also did also work on AOT. That probably where the similarities comes in.
38:10 that flower is called Higanbana (Red Spider Lily), and is the flower of dead in japanese culture. So that scene is also symbolism. They're planted around rice paddies and graveyard cause their bulbs are poisonous, so they keep moles, mice and other vermin at bay (from eating the plants or the corpses). P. S.: Fun fact, that flower is also called Lycoris, so Lycoris Recoil and Chisato's situation because of her heart, and her uniform being red. right?
Yes! I love this anime and was waiting for you to upload this! I binged this anime in the midst of me catching Covid with the hope that it might cheer me up. Needless to say it made me depressed and broke me down that my body refused to let me cry even though I could feel it stinging my eyes. Then with the last two episodes (22-23) I finally got my emotional release. Stellar anime, so much love was put into it and I don’t think it will ever fall out of my top 3. Also I’ll never be able to listen to Avid, Voices of the Chord, and Hands up to the Sky without feeling the same rush of emotions all over again.
This was a great anime. I hope it does continue since the light novels are still ongoing, but the place where the anime ended was the best place to end it if it doesn't keep going.
@@august_skythecrafter1412 There's a reason I specified "The best place to end it if it doesn't keep going"; the place where the anime ended for the time being was a resolution to multiple central arcs and journeys; any place after this besides the eventual ending of the light novels that still hasn't happened yet would be endings that leave a lot unresolved.
Really glad to see you giving the anime some love. It truly deserves as much recognition as it can get. A friend recommended me this anime and now i can proudly say it's currently my favorite series to the point I rewatched like like three times already. One of the things I love the most about it is that unlike most mecha animes the vehicles they use to fight aren't building-sized humanoid robots but actually more scorpion-like tanks, it feels more down to earth and technologically achievable I guess?
Its amazing to note, whenever i hear and see certain scenes and osts in combination, it always or a lot of the time makes my eyes wet, even tho normaly i dont have that with shows in general... so thanks for the amazing video, making me feel the same stuff when i was watching it a while ago. :3
gotta love when youtube doesnt send out the notification of this vid coming out only to find it 3 months later lol. i really hope u cover part 2 cuz this series is in my top 5 all time keep up the great work
It's heavily implied, that just how Legion uses brains for their vehicles, Fido has Shin's family's pet brain for the processor, because there's a shot of him looking up at Shin, his brother and Annette, when his memory fades, in case that show didn't heartbreak you enough
This is actually considered 1 season of 2 cours, so the patrons voted in the first entire season, this is Part 1 and Part 2 covering the final 12 episodes has already been made and will release : )
In case Anime Wins did not catch this, the OP animation differs every time there was a loss to Spearhead. The group shot in front of the maintenance building gets smaller. The second change occurred in the field of the spider lilies where the group shot gets bigger. (In Japanese culture, the red spider lily is associated with death...the flower of the afterlife.)
This anime really set up a character as one you'd want to follow and finally get to meet the Major to only kill him out the gate and then STILL make you like him and wish you got more time with him!
Firstly, shout out for winning Saori Hayami twice XD My all time favorite seiyuu for a lot of roles. Secondly, a couple missed 86 jokes with win 86 and saying 85% instead of 86%, but just nit picking ;) It goes a long way to say how good the show is with how emotional it made me just watching this video. Thanks for always reminding us of these gems by catching up with them. Can't wait for p2

This got me into reading Light Novels Im currently on Volume 6 but reading Vol 1-4 oml it makes me so happy watching it reading it hearing the OST its sooooo wonderful english and japanese actors all amazing !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! cant wait for season 2 everything great
The worst thing about season 1 is the very end, because the symbolism confused a lot of people when season 2 starts up. You have to read the source material to get the full picture. Definitely needed an extra scene for context.
Huh; I understood the interpretation. It was made to look like Shin died, only to actually be Shin's brother (or rather Shin's brother's brain) having survived and now carrying Shin to safety. The anime doesn't make it explicit, but it shows the symbolism continuing in the beginning of season 2 with Shin's brother saying "This is as far as I go" before Shin wakes up and we see the ruined legion unit that carried him and his friends to safety. It doesn't say outright what happened, but it didn't need to do so. Admittedly, I already knew Shin survives (mainly because I knew the light novel has more than one volume even though I haven't read the light novels), so even when I saw that ending of season 1, I was thinking, "I see what you're doing; very clever".
@@matthewmuir8884 congratulations, but for more casual fans my point still stands, and seeing as that was the worst gripe I haf, this show shines in my eyes as glorious.
@@supremefankai5480 Oh, I understand. I'm just saying that I thought the misdirect was clever and that the anime did still present enough information that a viewer could deduce what happened, though they could perhaps have stood to make it less subtle; perhaps they could've had season 2, episode 1 have Shin look at the ruined legion unit and think, "Rei..." or something like that.
I found the light novel to tell an amazing story, but it was wordy and repetitive. I'm so glad the show elevated such this story in such a wonderful way. I read somewhere that the author cried at how beautifully this was done during a screening of the final episode
When you said the song reminds you of Attack on Titan during episode 2, you will be surprised that the soundtrack was composed by Sawano Hiroyuki who also made a lot of tracks for AOT.
Funny that you compared the OST to AoT, you probably thought about "Zero Eclipse". Both shows OSTs are from Hiroyuki Sawano and the singer is Laco in those 2.

They're planted around rice paddies and graveyard cause their bulbs are poisonous, so they keep moles, mice and other vermin at bay (from eating the plants or the corpses).
P. S.: Fun fact, that flower is also called Lycoris, so Lycoris Recoil and Chisato's situation because of her heart, and her uniform being red. right?
Its good to see a whole vid talking about how 86 is awesome as hell.... as yes grown men do cry
just finished season 1 of this show! excited to finally watch this vid!!
Yes, one of my favorite animes. I'll be back later today to finish this video
YEA HES COVERING IT LETS GOOO
HE ANNOUNCED HE GONNA COVER PART 2 TOO
I didn't even notice it was cgi because it looked so good and I enjoyed the show so much
So happy that you did this show I love this show
This was a great anime. I hope it does continue since the light novels are still ongoing, but the place where the anime ended was the best place to end it if it doesn't keep going.
I disagree with that it ended just on a happy note before dark times again.
Can’t wait to see Part two
Really glad to see you giving the anime some love.
Great Anime, I'm excited to see this video as well as your reaction!.
86 is a true work of art.
gotta love when youtube doesnt send out the notification of this vid coming out only to find it 3 months later lol. i really hope u cover part 2 cuz this series is in my top 5 all time keep up the great work
He has already done part 2 but just hasn't posted it due to low view
It's heavily implied, that just how Legion uses brains for their vehicles, Fido has Shin's family's pet brain for the processor, because there's a shot of him looking up at Shin, his brother and Annette, when his memory fades, in case that show didn't heartbreak you enough
25:51 Anyone else reminded of Pippin singing to the Steward?
These videos are always so enjoyable. Can't wait for S2... come on patreons!!
This is actually considered 1 season of 2 cours, so the patrons voted in the first entire season, this is Part 1 and Part 2 covering the final 12 episodes has already been made and will release : )
@@AnimeWins Dedication!!!
This anime was a gem I don't think to many people gave a fair shot because of all the CGI and it only gets better imo.
The Dud on this show is also top tier. So I highly recommended the Dud too.
I believe the song in AoT you mentioned at 6:45 is Barricade
Please, please tell me we'll get the second half! I wish I could afford Patreon so I could go vote for this! I loved this so much when it was coming out and watching your video makes me want to go re-watch it all over again
been waiting for this too long.
3rd fav anime of all time, best ED of all time (Hands to the sky), and introducing it to friends for the first time as I type this. Yeah this is one of the greats
Thank you for this great video!!!! 86 is one of my top five of all time-
You are right about AOT music and this one, both composed by Hiroyuki Sawano.
Will be waiting for Part 2, as it´s amazing.... Damn, I must have it now, will rewatch everything tonight!
Amazing anime. Looking forward to part 2.
I think 36:39 got A LOT of people, so well done.
One of my Favorite anime of all time I listened to the soundtrack so much it was in my top 5 songs on Spotify iast year.
I've been waiting for this one to hit one of the streaming services I use.
16:42 it actually a Light Novel with Vol 13 coming soon
Can't wait for the next season. End of second half is an amazing setup
Good video man, hope you enjoyed the jorney that is 86.
Liking and commenting before watching.
I don't like Mecha.
This hit different.
Loved this one.
Same. Despite finding the idea of mecha interesting, I've never really found mecha anime interesting. This show, however, was different.
Good timing, was watching the new episode of nier automata when this video dropped
Is it back on production schedule??
@@mookiestewart3776 it's been since last week
I found the light novel to tell an amazing story, but it was wordy and repetitive. I'm so glad the show elevated such this story in such a wonderful way. I read somewhere that the author cried at how beautifully this was done during a screening of the final episode
Can't wait till season two!!
small thing did you notice the symbolism on the 5 birds flying away when the group left the control zone?
I know this is just a review but this almost made me cry again 😆😆😆🤣🤣🤣
When you said the song reminds you of Attack on Titan during episode 2, you will be surprised that the soundtrack was composed by Sawano Hiroyuki who also made a lot of tracks for AOT.
Yes learnt this later on, you can really hear his influence a lot throughout
He has also done tracks for re:creators, aldnoah zero and gundam. just to name a few.
@@uncleclaps44Aldnoah Zero songs are sooo good!
SEASON 2 NOW!!!! I NEED ANOTYHER ONE!!!
I've cried too much foR This!
Funny that you compared the OST to AoT, you probably thought about "Zero Eclipse". Both shows OSTs are from Hiroyuki Sawano and the singer is Laco in those 2.
Yeah I think you're probably right.
@@AnimeWins yup :D only oher one you might mean is "Apple Seed", those are the 2 she sung in AoT
The one who directed it is the masterpiece
Hail the YT algorithm.
86 is one of the 🐐's
MAN, with the world cup having ended 3 months ago and the fact that I just rewatched it for a 2nd time, I reallty hope you show everything everything great about Blue Lock
You were probably thinking of DOA. It was made by the same person..I think 6:32
