Thanks to your kind words and support, I plan to make a part 2 for the 2nd half of 86!
Please do! I love this anime and I love how many details and effort they put into this anime, so I really appreciate this video and will wait for the next one!
Just a moment idk if you noticed but... When Shin kills Rei, he breaks down crying as the music plays, right? Cut to Lena afterwards, and we can hear Shin crying over the Para RAID. Lena is holding the picture of Shin in her hand, BECAUSE THAT'S HER WAY OF HOLDING HIM AS HE CRIES.
One detail I just noticed re-watching the first episode, when we first see Lena, she salutes the flowers and we see 2 petals fall off, representing the first 2 casualties of the spearhead squadron. Kujo was the third casualty. Man, the layers of detail they went to for this anime is unreal.
Yea, that killed me. Personally I had a note of everyone in the squad with nicknames and real names found on web where I put “X and episode Of death - updated after each episode) but was surprised that suddenly lots of them died. Never matched op/ending with it. Absolutely it made it ever more touch the story.
Couple more things: Kaie’s death was also foreshadowed when she took the Ace of Spades in her card game. The Ace of Spades is a symbol of death. The order that stripped the 86 of their rights was Order 6609. If you reverse that, you get 9066 which was the Executive Order signed by FDR in 1942 that stripped all Japanese Americans of their rights resulting in them being placed in internment camps.
@@ctrlaltQQ I believe it’s from the novel. Tbh, I read it on the wiki and tv tropes. The author from what I've heard is a pretty big World War 2 history buff. Another example you see is with Annette's father doing human experimentation to perfect the Para-RAID. During that time period, there were many of these types of experiments going on in Germany and Japan, the most infamous of them being Unit 731. In regards to the spider lilies being associated with death, I read somewhere that way back when in Japan, they would place red spider lilies next to corpses and graves as their poisonous bulbs would ward off pests and rodents from desecrating the body, which is why the flower became synonymous with death.
What the production team did with Fido is absolutely inspiring. In canon side stories as well as the LNs it is absolutely explained that Fido was indeed Shin's "dog" containing an extremely advanced AI but it would have been very difficult to have to explain it in the limited timeframe of the anime. So instead they put little snippets of his history and his significance to Shin and it's all right there to see. Just brilliant.
Also didn’t annete said her family did tests on human ? So maybe the first test or the successful test was on animals/Shin’dog and after that they moved on test on human child like shin And maybe Shin’s brother knew about the dog/Fido.
@@sheidart no, in the ln, they explained that Fido is developed by Shin’s father, it’s an AI that is even better than the Legion. Anette was shocked realizing that the Republic literally threw away their chance of creating real unmanned machines for the war
I noticed _All Quiet On The Western Front_ it did not register at first, but when I noticed. Having read the novel and taking great meaning in my view of the world and life from it, I thought. "There is no other more fitting book to be placed in this anime"
I will note not all units in WWI had bad commander's who did not show up on the front with the troops hundreds of Generals died in that war in part because lots of them spent a good amount of time visiting the men. But it is true enough units had the remote commander's and as defeatism infected Germany "the period of All Quiet" leadership got worst. I will also not having commander's on the front lines does not reduce the violence or deaths of the troops. People complaining about leaders staying in the rear and sending the troops to die often think having them fight would reduce the chance of war. Historically it does not. In Feudal times Nobles while they still had personal troops were expected to lead them from in front. And Kings normally went to battle with the Army and led the reserve so on occasion were leading charges as well. A good number of them died others ransomed back home when captured in the case of a King for a King's ransom. Some Noble families in the War of the Roses died out or got close to it for these reasons.
Regarding names. Every one of them has a meaning. Vladilena Milize, meaning was explained in other comment and video itself. I would just like to add that Vladimir, is basically "ruler of peace" (vlad = ruler, mir = peace). Milize can have multiple explanation, I like to associate it with the word mily, which means loved, liked, nice. Milize, is simmiliar to "milić", trying to be like by someone. On polish forums there is word play, "Miliza się przymila", "Miliza is endearing". Vaclav Milize. While surname explanation still fits, Vaclav is Czech name, it's meaning is "more glory". He is last Alba casualty of the war, Vladilena is constantly compared to him. It's pretty much showing like "More famous/glorious of Milize". Foreshadowing, that many of Lena actions are dictated by the need to match her father. Shinei Nouzen, "Undertaker", actually is very straightforward. Shinei means "Die". His name is basically version of death. Nouzen is (at least fonetically) meaning "Campsis grandiflora", beautiful redish flower, which can be seen during few scenes in anime. Theoto Rikka, "Laughing Fox". For me he will always be associated with Polish cavalry unit "Lisowczycy" (something like "Fox people" or "Foxers"). Special unit for quick actions behind enemy lines, specializing in quick attacks and diversion. I guess this is caused by both "Laughing Fox" and "Lisowczycy" taking their names from behaving like hunting fox. Theo is associated with god. "God bearer", "god gift". If you notice how similar his fighting style is to Shinei and associate it with name that Legions gave to Undertaker, you can quickly connect those facts. Rikka have a lot of meanings, but combining Theo yellow hairs with this surname, I would guess it means "Life", since he is light hearted, energetic and emotional, it serves him well. Also, since he fights in similar manner to Shin, who is associated with death, this would mean that Theo and Undertaker are "different sides of the same coin". Raiden Shuga, "Wehrwolf". This is my personal favourite, cause it needs to connect a lot of facts. Wehrwolf, was "last defence" plan for Germans in World War II. It was plan to fight after war. One of the most important generals involved in this operation was Otto Skorzeny, who's most defining features were scars on whole face, just like Raiden's. Skorzeny was also responsible for special forces (Raiden fights using machine guns instead of cannons) and even though he was not directly ruling, he had great influence on people of power (like Raiden on Shin). Also (probably a lot of overthinking), Skorzeny was responsible for evacuation of german military personal after war and Raiden is trying his best to keep alive everybody. When it comes to his name, Raiden (name which is known to every Mortal Kombat fan), is god of thunder. Protector, supporting god, who defended Japan against mongols. Raiden (or Raijin) in mythology is depicted as having "terryfing face". Regarding surname, it's tricky for me, all I've got is clan Shiyuu, famous assasins, which is consistent with previous things. Anju Emma, "Snow With". As it's stated in many things, there connection in nicknames between her and her loved one "Black Dog". Black dogs are familiars, supporting magical animals, which were helping witches. Also there is tale of Snow Witch or Snow Queen, who was riding through the land throwing around pieces of ice (or snow). Those who were hit by it in the heart fell hopelessly in love with her (pretty much like Dayiam). Mostly it reminds me of her fighting style, rocket "shower" seems very much alike falling snow. Regarding name, it's fortifying version of Snow Witch tale. Anju means "one who lives in heart" in Hindi. Regarding Emma, now it's just my theory, but there is Emma Frost, a mutant from Marvel Comics. She was born in wealthy and respected family, but by being a mutant she was mocked and oppressed. Just like half-blood Alba, which Anja is. Just for a bonus, boy who fell in love with Snow Queen is named Kai (reference Kirshblute, Kaie Taniya). Kurena Kukumila, "Gunslinger". Nickname is easy, she shoots first and accurate, just like gunslinger who wants to live. Kurena is related to word "crimson" possibly connection to her hair. Regarding Kukumila... I see three options here: 1. This has no meaning. When you try to find it, seems that this word is associated only with Kurena. If the word has no meaning, it could indicate, that Kurena, youngest of the group is still trying to find herself, she is not yet defined. 2. It's related with latin word cucullus, polish Kukułka, cuckoo bird. Which would be similar symbol, she was dropped here, not exactly fitting with the rest, still looking for her place. This could be enforced, by the fact many people are adding "mila" to name/surname to make it more Slavic sounding. 3. It's combination of different words, which are outside of my language scope.
@@ctrlaltQQ Most importantly it means "The one with flaming eyes". I also didn't read light novel, but considering strange "glow" of Shin Reginleif and intro, something is very important regarding eyes. In last episodes, you could see that when Frederica uses her powers, her eyes glows. I have a feeling, that Shin can do much more then "hear the dead". Also, red eyes are exclusive to main branch of Nouzen family, so this flaming eye is something that's really despicable for Kiri. Odin is choosing which fallen are worthy of Valhalla and tells Valkyries to take their souls, which I think is primary reason for the Baleygr name for Shin. Odin is like a undertaker god.
@@DGZwiro Hum, no, the Nouzen Clan are pureblood Onyx, jetblack hair and eyes. The Pyropes have red hair and eyes, with Shin taking his eyes from his mother, [Kind of a SPOILER from now on] who was from the Maika Clan (the biggest family of the Pyropes), so red eyes are a defining factor of the Maika Clan, not the Nouzen.
@@vitoriadias7990 Thanks. I was actually basing on what is shown in anime. So Frederica and Shin both are the same "clan mix"? Now I think that this eye (from Baleygr name) is even more important.
Ahhhh, yes. I also know a certain someone who is the president of a certain country with the name of Vladimir. Ruler of peace, that name didn’t age well for him lmao. actually it never did anyways.
One more thing, Lena's first platoon headed by Pleiades lost 7 members in the last fight before she moved to Spearhead. The Pleiades is a cluster of 7+ stars with mainly 6-7 being visible, my mind was blown.
@@ctrlaltQQ I'll actually make a correction to this, Pleiades refers to the 7 sisters in Greek mythology which the cluster is named after, sorry for any misinformation! >.
Shourei was the one who defended the last remaining 86 in episode 11 when we thought they all died. He eventually shut down from critical damage, but this is why we see the Federacy capture a Dinosauria in Season 2 episode 1.
There's actually another part where the opening changes! I'm not sure when the timestamp is but when it does the quick flashes of the characters in their juggernauts, Kurena and Anju are split facing each other. Between them is a third character. Until episode 4, that character is Kaie. After Kaie dies, its Daiya, and when Daiya dies it switches to Haruto. After Haruto dies, the space disappears and its just Anju and Kurena, because Haruto is the last one remaining outside of the main five. I don't know if you'll ever see this comment but I thought you should know!
Ah yes, thanks for pointing it out. I noticed it as well but I figured it wasn't much of a talking point to mention since after Haruto died, they didnt bother replacing him. Wasnt sure what the significance of that sequence was since it was only a few frames. But thank you!
I’m reading the light novels, and they’ve done an amazing job keeping the story the same, there’s some small stuff that isn’t in the anime. 2 things they didn’t mention in the anime that’s in the light novel, that I wished they showed: - I wished they showed how other squadrons were. Lev (the maintenance man that works on the machines) mentions how lucky the others are to be in the same squad as Shin. Part of it is b/c of his Reaper thing. But also the Spearhead Squadron gets to have fun, play around, garden and scout out old cities. Other squadrons can’t do that b/c they have constant patrols they need to do so they don’t have time. Raiden when he first meets Shin is actually upset they don’t do patrols b/c he thinks Shin’s gonna get them all killed (he didn’t know about Shin’s ability yet.) Thanks to Shin’s ability they’re able to relax to some degree, b/c Shin knows when the Legion is around. - Lena’s dad actually saw Kurena’s parents get beat and killed excerpt below pg. 70 “Václav could still remember the sight of two children watching as the soldiers beat their parents to death, laughing all the while. He would never forget one of the girls, presumably the older sister, and her cold eyes, refusing to shed a single tear. Those eyes would never leave him. Those girls would probably never forgive the Alba or the Republic for as long as they lived.”
Just gonna add. I think Lena adopted the Annette thing where her coworkers put up pictures of her past suitors so "she won't forget". The spearhead does it as well (Theo's drawing of past handlers).
Probably fun fact/attention to detail: the ammos used on these spider mechs (HEAT and APFSDS) was an actual ammo used by modern tanks like m1 abrams, leopard etc.
The turret on the Lowe's resemble the M1A2 Abrams turret. It is stated that the guns on the Lowe are twice as powerful as the Juggernaut's. Since the juggernaut uses 57mm autoloading shells, the Lowe should be using 120mm shells which are twice as large and match the caliber used by the M1A2.
@Jonathan Jacquet Yes, and The federation of Giad seems like a pretty good parallel to germany, with the german empire being suplanted by the first german republic after WW1, but with aesthetics of the modern german federation, so the NATO ammo fits very well
I am torn about the bullying aspect of Annette's. I mean it cannot be that all men her age knew she was friends with a 86 10 years ago. On my rewatch I took it that she has so much pain about abandoning Shin that even seeing a boy her age makes her think about him.
It's a theory of mine, but I think my theory makes sense. Men her age don't approach her, its not the other way around. There arent men her age that are rejected by Annette. They just dont go for her.
I mean if you were friends with a Jew in Nazi Germany I'm sure the people around you will definitely know at the very least the news will probably spread from word to mouth. If not the regime will make it hard for you to keep living a normal life if not also deport you to Auschwitz for being a traitor or something.
@@ctrlaltQQ Plausible to some degree, but probably not a complete explanation given the population is in the millions and they all can't know her early history. Another factor is Annette and Lena were also both isolated from their peers due to advancement in their education, seemingly being the equivalent of those who graduate from college at 14. This is a large factor in both Annette and Lena's social isolation and their enduring relationship over that time. Their schooling caused everyone else to be left behind except for each other, a separation that probably gave Annette a sense of safety. Especially as Lena herself didn't exactly hide signs of being a sympathizer and had political protections shielding her from being disappeared as such. There may also be some self-destructive impulses on Annette's part given she claimed she took her father's work/sins upon herself, is a workaholic (a sign of avoiding inner distress) and the complex/contradictory thoughts she has for the 86. Her wanting to save at least one but being glad a viable means to do so is out of her reach. She shows many signs of not believing she is a good person but rather has an ugly view of herself. So much so that when it came out she appeared to be mentally unhinged. So she herself may only respond to the formal proposals that can't possibly work out, are of questionable character or clearly have ulterior motives. Not to mention she actively sabotages them rather cruelly, so this may also be her only means of arranging punishment given her helplessness regarding the situation.
I figured that she was probably expected to limit herself to upperclass suitors, most which is presumably a much more limited pool of candidates, and as they all seem to live in district 1, it's more likely that word would have gotten around in that limited pool.
Both good theories. The only hint Annette gave was that the men her age were "childish". It could be that the men her age are largely soldiers, and are most directly responsible for pawning off their responsibilities to protect their country onto the 86, as well as their poor treatment. They're abandoning the 86, which reminds her of her own sin that she wants desperately to forget.
I wasnt expecting much from this last week when i finally watched it but holy shit, it has some of the best moments! I was glad Anju was alive and survived their last recon mission, and feel even more sad about her back being sliced into the words that still haunt her today. hayami Saori really gave breath into Anju's character.
thank you for this video... its absolutely incredible... i've reached all the way to vol 8 and this vid brought tears to my eyes... people have yet to realise just how wonderful the anime and the LN is.. i beg for that day to come
Wow! I've noticed a lot of symbolism in this anime but you just expanded it twice as fold. Thank you! There is so much you can take from this anime. Sometimes I think this anime is for those who care to see the world from a wider perspective. Not everyone will see these symbolisms if they don't have prior knowledge. But this video will. Thank you again! 🙏 About _Vladilena Milize_ I doubt it's a German name or surname. It's more of Slavic descent _Владилена Милизе._ Commonly used in Russian culture For her name. *Vlad* _(Влад)_ - translates as ruled, the victor. *-Mir* _(мир)_ - peace. She wholeheartedly wishes to bring _' The Ruling piece' to the world._ 🙏 For her surname. Milize _(милый)_ - translates to lovely, carrying. Which well goes with her personality.
Episode 6 start to episode 8 ending had 14 members dying I think after killing 2 people in 6 they decided to go for it Of Course months went by in these Episode and they also fight everyday
god I love this story so much T-T the adaptation was indeed incredible, the cinematic language are on another level and to top it off, the music. anime like this is so raree. the author is part of the team it helped with the show not tell and it very faithful to the novel. i hope it stays like this for the next parts.
@@ctrlaltQQ The way this adaptation expanded on the story as much as it did without feeling forced or even being noticeable without knowing the source is a testament to how much they truly understood the story they were telling. There was a fairly significant amount of anime original content, but it all felt right. Having a story I love be treated with such care, passion, and skill is a blessing I'm not taking for granted.
Just came up with this video. Need to clarify the Fido part a bit, that scene where Shin is holding a piece of metal, it's not Fido's. It's Rei's metal plate which was recovered when Shin found he's brother's juggernaut in that flash back scene. He kept it un-carved until finally shut down his brother for good, and then he's able to carve the plate with Rei's name. Probly too late for you to see the comment.
not too late. but is this information in the light novel? I got my piece of info from a comment from reddit so it could've been off. You can't exactly see the tag because it wasnt very clear. in terms of context...why did he thank Fido in that moment if it was Rei's tag?
@@ctrlaltQQ Urgh I guess i can't post the comparison link here. Edited: I put the link on reddit. 1. The word REI is actually visible on the tag. 2. The tag is the Cervical Spine with red cloak around it, which is part of the Dullahan mark on Rei's unit. 3. Same episode around 6:20 Shin and Leiden had a conversation about when did Shin leave his brother's name, and Shin reply with Fido knew. 4. From the points above it's a plausible guess that Shin recover the tag long ago in front of the church when he found Rei's unit. 5. In the same scene, Shin is having a conversation with Fido, and Fido comment something when Shin showed the Tag carved with REI, then Shin thanked Fido for that comment. This is my take on the thanking.
@@ctrlaltQQ also I think the real reason Shin left Fido there is because Fido was damaged protecting Shin (that gauge probably show the lux level cuz only scene with dark background that the gauge is low)
part 2 spoilers ahead: if i remember correctly too, the moment when shin went crazy and lost any will to survive just fighting as hard as he could without a care of what happened to him, fido still wasnt back in the picture, so it could be interpreted that fido was part of what was holding shins sanity together, theres other factors for the reason he went nuts in that episode of course but losing fido coulda been what marked the start of his descent as fido is basically what kept shin grounded, allowed him to display some semblance of emotion. edit: oh god i hope youre caught up, sorry for spoiler
Can you edit your comment to say part 2 spoilers on the first line for the other comment readers? To reply to your comment I think Shin was still fighting recklessly after Fido returned tho... example ep16 he's almost lost it. Fido already returned on ep14
Thanks for putting together this video. It has been many months since I watched S1 so I was having a hard time following what’s going on as I tried to start on S2. After watching your video I am almost tempted to rewatch S1 all over again. Once again great video and great job with the background music.
Also in the ending of episode 7 (or 8, I cant remember exactly) when it showed a bit of Shin's past with his brother, theres a book in the background called, "The skeleton knight" which Shourei later uses as his personal mark. My guess is that the book was probably Shinei's favorite or something.
That is correct. And later Shin would base his personal mark off of the personal mark he found on the remains of Rei's juggernaut. The book also holds a certain significance to his family(This was briefly referenced in episode 22 and will be expanded upon in later seasons should we hopefully get any).
Bro, this video is *ABSOLUTELY* underrated. Can't believe it. You put in SO MUCH time, effort and the ATTENTION TO DETAIL in the analysis is just absolutely amazing. Thank you so much for making these videos, I truly and greatly appreciate it :)
This is why 86 is the best anime in my opinion and kinda underrated just because of military genre. I love the details in the op so much, the last time I've seen that was Angel Beats.
At first I never understood the hype of 86, but when I rewatched it after watching your video, everything made sense and it had much more deeper meaning. No wonder the light novel was so much appreciated by the fans.
The large world-story plots being hidden are what adds to my love of this Anime. The characters take center stage. And rightly so. It's all about them. But... it's amazing how there's still a complex world-story with tech, history, geography and more and it IS told, but it's practically hidden. I've been watching 86 vids and clips for over a year and not a single one ever mentions the ones I found to be insanely impactful, powerful and practically make me break down crying. When in S1 shin and lena are having a "nothing" convo and he says something no one cares about, about seeing towers in the city and Lena is just "oh, you must've been in district one if you could see them". THEN a WHOLE season later there is another little nothing scene that revelas those towers he saw weren't from San Magnolila, but from the Giadian Empire... and it's like a HUGE mind blowing moment. Like HUGE. I never hear anyone ever talking about the mind blowing stuff.
First of: Very nice video! But one thing I want to mention: 2:11 The voice screaming in the background is right, thats how you pronunce Lena in german. Google translate also prounces it correct, but in the video you press the speaker on the english side, hence it pronouces it in english. If you press the speaker on the other side, it will prounce it in german. Anyhow, anyone should pronounce it, like he or she wants. The show does not specify a real life nationality after all.
Milize means Military or band of soldiers her name literally means Peaceful and Great Military leader the anime maybe even the novels point it out multiple times by refering to her as Saintess as thats basically what she represents a necessary leader that wants peace like Jeanne D'arc or this worlds version of her which is San Magnolia and yeah unless i missed something the country is named after said saintess maybe it isnt the actual full name because in Europe san means holy place and milize also means military here so we most likely only know her last name...
i finished this show last year, i was left kinda confused but eventually gets the big line, but I didn't notice that I missed a bunch of things and its crazy that you actually notice them and how it makes so much sense!
For the last name of Lena being Milizé, I could be inspired by the last name of French Admiral Jean Armand of Maillé-Brézé which was born in one of France's most powerful and wealthy families
Damn it. This was amazing and hurtful. I will be sharing this forever with new fan of 86. I missed most of what's you pointed out in this video, which is awesome, cause I just got a whole other chance to enjoy this story.
I love it!! Thank you for the review! I love everything about this anime! True masterpiece and has greats songs! Never had a anime which there are so many songs that are not only great, but very loopable!
the way each character was cut off. they really knew how to play with our feelings. our attachment to the group. our love to the squad. our feelings on each and everyone of them. in the end they served for what they believed in. It really hits the feels when you know when they all died. slaughtered like animals. fighting for a lost cause because they know death is the only way to win. and thats why its a pain to see them dwindle each episode.
Pog this is really needed to actually understand even more even though it's already understood but not fully this leave you feel satisfy and complete even though season 2 is out now.
13:09 oh my god when I realized that when they die they go to the scene with the blinding light that’s when I understood how much detail they put in this show
Since Vladimir is of Slavic origin, and assuming Milize follows the same theme, in several Slavic languages, Milý (pronounced the same as Milii), or similar versions of the word, could be translated as Nice or Kind
I don't know if others commented about shorei. So after the battle between shin and shorei. shorei transferred his data to another unit I think its Dinosauria and also badly damaged but can still operate ( correct me if im wrong i read the LB years ago ) 😅 and then followed shin and his comrades to make sure shin reach the federacy safely , so i think thats why shin heard something is following them but its a fainted voice, then in episode 11 post/end credit scene in anime u see shin as a young boy then infront of him is shorei transformed into a knight and carry shin. when shin and the others was knocked unconsious shorei saved and carried them to the borders of Giad. but Giad soldiers see the dinosauria they killed it. then they saw shin and his comrades at the back. in the anime in S1 Part 2 episode 1(13) 8:03 is the last conversation of shin 8:29 shorei: " this is as far as I can go" then shorei saying his goodbyes to shin . thats why you can see a Dinosauria in the background. thats all.. sorry if im a year late .. 🤣
Amazing video I've been trying to figure out who all the deaths were in the opener but I guess the show doesn't really highlight every single death which is kinda sad. The size of the group at the beginning compared to the end is depressing but makes sense in the story.
Thank you very much for the video! You did a great job, you are great! Thanks to you, I felt the depth of anime that I myself could not understand! It really is a great anime!
Fido is shown to understand and possibly having emotion few times in the series...in the 10th eps, when Fido's memory started to show, we see when it first met Shin again (they were seperated before Fido got the new orange body)...we can see it "shed tears" when zooming at Shin...and the other time we saw Fido do so was in the last episode when Shin met Lena
Great video! Some small advice. After watching this I went to your channel to see if you made one for season 2. While looking I noticed a lot of your Thumbnails are very busy. I'm no expert myself having only reached 3,500 subs at my peak years ago. But the main thing. This video is outstanding. You can see the difference in this thumbnail to the rest on your channel. You could definitely be making more stuff like this if you want to and see more success. Anyways that's all. Hopefully you end up doing a review for season 2!
I hear ya. I got this thumbnail done professionally but I dont have a budget to do them for everything else. I'm working on part 2 as we speak but it's taking a long time. It's just a different degree of content. This one I took so much time and effort that I had to do it justice.
@@ctrlaltQQ well I respect the effort. Definitely a lot to have every thumbnail done professionally. I'm going to sub so I don't miss the second one. Thanks for the awesome video
I know its a bit far stretched but the name "Milize" always reminded me of the german word "Miliz". A "Miliz" is a military force comprised of civillians/non trained military forces to either support the military or as some kind of last stand force. I found that so fitting to the overall theme of the show that i thought it had to be intentional
@@ctrlaltQQ I can't guarantee the popularity as I don't follow the public reception here. but all the Brazilian review sites/TH-camrs that talked about the anime, rated it very well. Great info! Didnt know that fact. Was that in the novel? Dont remember seeing it in the anime
@@ctrlaltQQ It's both in the LN and the anime.
Fido best dog in anime 😭❤️
Also didn’t annete said her family did tests on human ?
So maybe the first test or the successful test was on animals/Shin’dog and after that they moved on test on human child like shin
And maybe Shin’s brother knew about the dog/Fido.
@@sheidart no, in the ln, they explained that Fido is developed by Shin’s father, it’s an AI that is even better than the Legion. Anette was shocked realizing that the Republic literally threw away their chance of creating real unmanned machines for the war

bro the director of this anime has to be some god or someshit cuz this studio faithfully adapted the novels its insane
fun fact, it's his debut as the lead director of a show. that's crazy, cant wait for his next work. name of the director is Toshimasa Ishii
Any significance in the name "baleygr"? I know it means odin, but does it fit for shin?
Thats a cool piece of info, thanks for sharing
@@ctrlaltQQ I'll actually make a correction to this, Pleiades refers to the 7 sisters in Greek mythology which the cluster is named after, sorry for any misinformation! >.
Wdym last fight

@@toniqh And the Japanese name is Subaru, which is why the logo of the corporation is the constellation Pleiades.
2 things they didn’t mention in the anime that’s in the light novel, that I wished they showed:
- I wished they showed how other squadrons were.
“Václav could still remember the sight of two children watching as the soldiers beat their parents to death, laughing all the while. He would never forget one of the girls, presumably the older sister, and her cold eyes, refusing to shed a single tear. Those eyes would never leave him. Those girls would probably never forgive the Alba or the Republic for as long as they lived.”
I'll most likely pick up the LN after the anime concludes this season
omg.....
Also in part 2 we can see flak88's
I was glad Anju was alive and survived their last recon mission, and feel even more sad about her back being sliced into the words that still haunt her today. hayami Saori really gave breath into Anju's character.
thank you for this video... its absolutely incredible... i've reached all the way to vol 8 and this vid brought tears to my eyes... people have yet to realise just how wonderful the anime and the LN is.. i beg for that day to come
Thank you for sharing! When I was making this video, I couldnt sleep because of how impactful the story is. I absolutely adore 86
Such an underrated masterpiece. Hope this video blows up.
This anime is deep as fuck. I didn't expect it
About _Vladilena Milize_ I doubt it's a German name or surname. It's more of Slavic descent _Владилена Милизе._ Commonly used in Russian culture
For her name. *Vlad* _(Влад)_ - translates as ruled, the victor. *-Mir* _(мир)_ - peace. She wholeheartedly wishes to bring _' The Ruling piece' to the world._ 🙏
For her surname. Milize _(милый)_ - translates to lovely, carrying. Which well goes with her personality.

god I love this story so much T-T the adaptation was indeed incredible, the cinematic language are on another level and to top it off, the music. anime like this is so raree. the author is part of the team it helped with the show not tell and it very faithful to the novel. i hope it stays like this for the next parts.
Great analysis! Even having read the novel I didn't catch all of them. I can't wait to see how they continue to share this story in a new form
That's cool to hear. I thought some of this stuff would be covered in detail in the novel so that's definitely a surprise
@@ctrlaltQQ Fido's story is also further revealed later in the Light novel. Not sure any possible sequel will mention this plot.
@@ctrlaltQQ also I think the real reason Shin left Fido there is because Fido was damaged protecting Shin (that gauge probably show the lux level cuz only scene with dark background that the gauge is low)
part 2 spoilers ahead:
if i remember correctly too, the moment when shin went crazy and lost any will to survive just fighting as hard as he could without a care of what happened to him, fido still wasnt back in the picture, so it could be interpreted that fido was part of what was holding shins sanity together, theres other factors for the reason he went nuts in that episode of course but losing fido coulda been what marked the start of his descent as fido is basically what kept shin grounded, allowed him to display some semblance of emotion.
edit: oh god i hope youre caught up, sorry for spoiler
Can you edit your comment to say part 2 spoilers on the first line for the other comment readers? To reply to your comment I think Shin was still fighting recklessly after Fido returned tho... example ep16 he's almost lost it. Fido already returned on ep14
Thanks for putting together this video. It has been many months since I watched S1 so I was having a hard time following what’s going on as I tried to start on S2. After watching your video I am almost tempted to rewatch S1 all over again. Once again great video and great job with the background music.
this show is worth rewatching. on my second rewatch I noticed a lot of things I didnt get the first time around

7:03 Of all these details you showed, this is my favorite, I love how subtle and yet in plain sight it is
This is why 86 is the best anime in my opinion and kinda underrated just because of military genre. I love the details in the op so much, the last time I've seen that was Angel Beats.
Absolutely phenomenal video! There's so much that I didn't notice.
Truly, 86 is a masterpiece of an anime adaptation. 10/10!
86 is well refined in everything totally deserved 1st rank
isekai lore: got hit by a truck gets to be the most OP MF
86 lore:
Great video, keep up the good work! I also love 86. you out did Giguk.
Wow that last segment of the characters passing to the other side along with Avid made me cry all over again, even Fido too😭
First of: Very nice video! But one thing I want to mention:
2:11 The voice screaming in the background is right, thats how you pronunce Lena in german. Google translate also prounces it correct, but in the video you press the speaker on the english side, hence it pronouces it in english. If you press the speaker on the other side, it will prounce it in german.
Anyhow, anyone should pronounce it, like he or she wants. The show does not specify a real life nationality after all.

Milize means Military or band of soldiers her name literally means Peaceful and Great Military leader the anime maybe even the novels point it out multiple times by refering to her as Saintess as thats basically what she represents a necessary leader that wants peace like Jeanne D'arc or this worlds version of her which is San Magnolia and yeah unless i missed something the country is named after said saintess maybe it isnt the actual full name because in Europe san means holy place and milize also means military here so we most likely only know her last name...
man. u r so underrated ilove this video.
i finished this show last year, i was left kinda confused but eventually gets the big line, but I didn't notice that I missed a bunch of things and its crazy that you actually notice them and how it makes so much sense!
This video inspired me to start listening audiobook of “All Quitet on the Western Front”. Interesting story
For the last name of Lena being Milizé, I could be inspired by the last name of French Admiral Jean Armand of Maillé-Brézé which was born in one of France's most powerful and wealthy families

so much love for the effort you put in to this video and sharing your insights, great editing too
Really awesome video! Lots of great details I've missed. Keep up the good work.
the way each character was cut off. they really knew how to play with our feelings. our attachment to the group. our love to the squad. our feelings on each and everyone of them. in the end they served for what they believed in. It really hits the feels when you know when they all died. slaughtered like animals. fighting for a lost cause because they know death is the only way to win. and thats why its a pain to see them dwindle each episode.
We need another one for part 2!

Pog this is really needed to actually understand even more even though it's already understood but not fully this leave you feel satisfy and complete even though season 2 is out now.
13:09 oh my god when I realized that when they die they go to the scene with the blinding light that’s when I understood how much detail they put in this show
tbh if this ended with only this part and didnt release part 2 i wouldnt even be mad this is so beautiful and such a good story already.

I know! The music from the show is spectacular. The piano covers nailed it!
Excellent work dude.
Best anime ever seen, gives so much emotions, some of the details, are simply amazing

Oh my god! wonderful review of 86.
Amazing video I've been trying to figure out who all the deaths were in the opener but I guess the show doesn't really highlight every single death which is kinda sad. The size of the group at the beginning compared to the end is depressing but makes sense in the story.
Awesome video! I thought I caught most of them, but I wasn't even close.
I really hope they animate the future volumes
Thank you very much for the video! You did a great job, you are great! Thanks to you, I felt the depth of anime that I myself could not understand! It really is a great anime!
86 s1 is the most underrated anime ever
Great work!
@@di11pi11 Thank you, I did make 86 related video (newest vid) and provided some updates on my progress if you want to check it out.
Thank You for this video
I noticed a lot of the symbolism in the anime, they did a hella good job in that aspect.
3:28 i watched this on a movie version instead of the book still makes me cry.
Tier S Video about 86 🔥🔥🔥
Thank you for sharing! So good!!
absolutely stunning video! Subbed:)
Amazing video!!!!!!!!!!! watching this after start seeing season 2 and there is a lot of things that i didnt notice. Thank u
You're gonna love my part 2 video, stay tuned!
@@ctrlaltQQ omg i didnt expected that you will made a part II. I am very anxious now!!! now, you have a follower (from Brazil)
@@Rafaeloljs thanks! is 86 popular in Brazil?
@@ctrlaltQQ
I can't guarantee the popularity as I don't follow the public reception here. but all the Brazilian review sites/TH-camrs that talked about the anime, rated it very well. I believe that those who didn't give up are enjoying it a lot. But I'll read about and come back here to talk properly
What an amazing video!
check out part 2 while you're at it
Opening sequence changes...I didn't notice it. This make me cry now.
