6:18 Goro is not an animatronic; the figure did not contain any electronic or robotic that allowed the figure to move on its own. It was a standard puppet that was manually posed by hand.
It is surprising at how well the Amiga port controls. The load times are mercifully shorter than many other games on the system, and the disk-swapping is kept to a minimum. Considering they made it with the Amiga 500 in mind, the base architecture of which was made in 1985, I think they did a pretty good job.
Definitely when it comes to the first game, the arcade version is the only one I play. I love when you're at the second or third round (depending) of the last endurance match you can hear Goro stomping around, bashing walls, and roaring.
@@PatmanQC-Arcade-Documentaries oh and I forgot to add that I love the storm collectibles versions of the Mortal Kombat figures and McFarlane kicks ass too. I like how you show yours in the videos and thumbnail.
Great review. Talking with Danny himself about the fallout is above and beyond and a great piece of history in this iconic game we have all come to love in the early 90’s.
If anything good can be said about the fatalities on the SNES port of Mortal Kombat, they gave Sub-Zero a rather fitting one and it would be updated for later games.
I really enjoyed this detailed look into a classic hall of fame series. Keep up the superior quality work. Thank you for always posting videos I like, that share in all our nostalgia.
In fact, those unused sprites in the arcade, are used in a full game for the M.U.G.E.N, Engine called "Mortal Kombat Project" and there's a ton more of full games like these, also, love the jokes in your videos lol, cheers!
The game was also influenced by the movie Master of the Flying Guillotine but no one ever mentions this. There is a character in that movie that looks like Raiden also the Pit stage seem to come from this movie. The film is a sequel to One Armed Boxer and both movies influenced the Street Fighter series as well. Check em out. Great video as usual.

This is mostly stuff I already knew, being 40 years old and having been fascinated with MK characters, lore, and history since it was released in arcades in 1992... but I enjoy how succinctly and eloquently you present the history of the game in your videos, and I did learn several things when I watched the first time. For example, I never knew that originally Shang Tsung was to be the only killable opponent. I'm glad they changed that, but it would have been cool if they still let us kill Shang Tsung also. Thanks, Pat!
Surprised you didn't bring up Basic Fun's Arcade Classics Mortal Kombat machine. It was a Walmart exclusive $20 miniature arcade machine, but due to the licensing, they had to change the side art to a generic one with Scorpion from Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3. In the early 90s I had both the Game Gear and Floppy disk DOS port. The Game Gear version seemed decent at the time but looks terrible now. The DOS port was great and I even got a keyboard gamepad in order to control the game. From what I remember this game required 8MB of ram and I only had 4MB and had to use a ram doubler to fool the game into starting, which would cause some bad stuttering occasionally during gameplay. Since the ram was around $200 to go from 4 to 8 megabytes(yes MB) at the time I managed to work out a solution.
