Wizards course corrected hard so Kamigawa was underpowered and over priced for what it was. The aesthetics and story were great but they followed a bad set with another bad set in the oppisate direction.

Yeah, I 100% agree with you, the reception is big, its hyped its being pushed and people are liking it right now. I think this is going to irreparably harm MTG in the future and people aren't going to look back favorably upon it.

Plus I don’t want to waste many hours of my life watching “filler episodes” when I can watch something like this, this is more like a puzzle to solve where you figure out the lore than a massive time dump where it explains every minute detail way too many times
I think this can also be played as a real battle in mtg: 1: Kaito used his +1 and then phrase out( that was why kaito could block Jin-gitaxias's attack) 2: Tezzeret and his planar portal was cast 3: Tamiyo activated her +1 effect to tap Jin 4: tezzeret turned planar portal into artifact creature, deal damage to Tamiyo and she was fainted 5: Kaito used his +1, with the power of friendship, he draws the wandering emperor 6: jinz attack Kaito, Flash timing the wandering emperor was summoned and used her -2 effect to exile Jin
I didn't realize I needed Anime the Gathering. Seeing Tezzeret kicking ass was especially a treat. Only downside is that we likely won't get another snippet like this. Image the Brothers War like this!
They are still planning an animated series on Netflix for mtg to release later this year. Unfortunately Kamigawa and the Brothers War doesn't seem to be the focus, but it does look like it's going to be a decent starting point involving how Gideon Jura and Jace met.
I pulled both in my prereleases. I bought 5 and the first one had the wandering emporor non holo standard print and the last one I planned on keeping sealed, I opened it and pulled Kaito as my stamped foil. Although, I'm trading it for a Kyodai. I know, not entirely worth it but it's gonna be my commander.
2:50 this. Oh my God this. The embrace and the moment that The Wanderer breaks from just pure joy from seeing Kaito only to then Planeswalk away because of that... Its just beautiful. I love everything this wants and chooses to be, and I can't wait to see the day that this game gets a show.

Koshi (B'z) is one of the best HR singer in the world. He collaborated with SLASH(GUN'S), Aerosmith, Steve Vai. Furthermore, it is the vocal of the band that sold the most CDs in Japan. legend.
This is why Wizards should just focus on making an anime, instead of a live action. You can do so much more in anime then you could ever hope to accomplish in live action. Plus, with all the indepth history of magic the gathering, it is much easier to tell a story in anime! Wonderful video and great choice in song!

The foolish Saito and his Wanderer Empress are lucky they did not face our Grand Cenobite, the Majestic Elesh Norn; she would have forced them groveling to their knees, just by her absolute presence alone. Tamiyo has been compleated for the greatness of Phyrexia, and soon every other planewalker shall follow, even the Father of the Machines who got away before. There is no entity powerful enough, no Bolas or Eldrazi Titans, to stand in our way now!
I love to see companies employ Japanese animators to replicate media inspired by Japanese things. Reality twisting to form the Wandering Emperor, her blade striking Jin Gitaxias, before fading away. Just awesome
This set is the most hyped I've seen the magic community since we went to theros for the first time. I've seen nothing but positive feedback from all the content creators. I heard someone say something the other day. "Magic is magic again."
I had a friendshipsickness. My best friend, who I shared the hobby with, f*** ghosted me almost one year ago. I had several months that I lost all hope for the game, and for friendship for that matter. Kamigawa brought me back that hope.
On the other hand, some content creators have reported the lowest boost in viewership post set release with Kamigawa. The set is great but some of WotC decisions with Arena were controversial lately.
I've wanted a return to Kamigawa for so long that I was convinced any actual set would be a disappointment, unable to live up to the hype in my head, and here it is and it's better than I could have dreamed. Thanks WotC. This one is really special.
@Ryan Willson I was starting magic around the same era, just slightly earlier starting from Mirrodin block. Kamigawa, TBH, I don't particularly like the mechanics from that block, but I'm so loving the flavor. Gotta echo @Ian Chongson. So long waiting for Kamigawa, and it returns better than hope. As for being after thought, why does that matter anyway. There are many great projects that does become great from the start of the planning, but sometime in the middle or even near the end after sudden spark of idea. Wizard made the right decision to made this set into Kamigawa and has done good job following through on that decision such as by giving us this trailer. Now, if only they made this into a full anime season or two....
@@rolandking640 then I think it's a testament to the world building abilities of the dev team that they were able to square such disparate notions while still making it feel like OG Kamigawa. I played the hell out of Champions, and so far, NEO feels like a worthy successor to one of the greatest limited formats ever.
Everyone’s going ham for TK singing this (I love the guy too!) but the REAL surprise is Koshi Inaba…the dude is a living legend. If you haven’t heard of him yet he sings for B’z, Japan’s top selling band of all time. It’s such an interesting combination to put an old school rock/pop singer like Koshi with a modern/progressive artist like TK, such an impressive result!
Seriously tho, the fact that they got both TK AND Koshi on one song for a card game is just insane. But then again, if Detective Conan can get B’z multiple times, so can Magic The Gathering
I started playing magic when I was 8 years old my first set was Kamigawa. I was very sad when time and time again we were told that Kamigawa wasn't a commercial success and therefore would not be revisited. So happy they gave this plane another chance, loving how they refreshed the plane aesthetically while still retaining the planes unique identity as a place of Asian inspired mysticism.
This has got to be my favorite MTG trailer. When I was a kid, I would never have imagined my fave card game and animation genre fusing together in the future, but then here we are.
@@ibrahimmagic1377 eh, really is a personal preference kinda thing. The setting is far from their usual so I'm sure not everyone is gonna be a fan, but I think it's a really fresh take on the usual magical world. The gameplay looks pretty nice too from what I see

Though I still think that the War of the Spark trailer is the best they will ever do, if they somehow are able to top the emotional rollercoaster that is a regretful Lilliana turning on Nico Bolas accompanied by a sombre version of "In The End" by Lincoln Park then they deserve some sort of award.
Ok, Kaito was initially my new favorite planeswalker just cause he’s a badass cyber ninja with a cool robot friend. Now I’m just way too invested in this wholesome ass friendship between him and Wanderer, and I just want them to be happy. The mtg IP has sooooo much potential... anime style shows would be only the tip of the iceberg.... The whole War of the Spark arc is an Avengers Endgame level story... Nicol Bolas is a badass villain... they could make individual movies exploring each member of the gatewatch... Then unite them into an avengers type movie.. And have a great final climax film for War of the Spark

I think this has been in the works for a while, but Arcane kind of blew everything out of the water in regards to story quality and animation... forcing other like projects into a delay.
I'd love it too, but... frankly? I doubt it will happen. MTG has always been huge in telling novellas worth of story through card art in each set. It's waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too huge at this point and nothing could do it justice. Also it's far too established and coherent, as opposed to Arcane, which was based on frankly lackluster lore the writers were able to transform into something astonishing because they had free space and freedom.
This is easily the best MTG trailer so far, even though they've been getting better and better lately. The animation is absolutely insane but the music is even better. That's a very beautiful song with incredible production and mixing and the vocals! The whole thing is just an absolute treat for the senses. Mwaah!

I can't believe they got TK and WIT for this! I've seen so many great artists and creators endorsed to make things for this set, and it's turned into something indescribably beautiful. Thank you, Wizards, and everyone else that has come together to form this community! (Also, what would it take to get an entire MTG series from WIT Studios? Like, seriously. I'll pay out of pocket if I have to.)
This is some good stuff. Inaba's powerful rock vocals and TK's hushy whispery falsetto provides a stark contrast and a beautiful combination. They're 20 years apart in age and hearing 2 generations of musicians collabing is always a pleasure

Kamigawa is a Japanese themed plane and nothing screams Japanese than anime. Which is a globally recognized art form. The guy or gal that thought about presenting this trailer in anime form deserves a raise.
Legends of Kamigawa was the first set of Magic I ever played... returning this year to MtG to see Neon Dynasty and how amazing it's been makes me feel like a hopeful kid again.
I've never been more hyped for a set than this. And then you guys went and got TK and one of my favorite anime studios to make this. The stars are aligning.
It's been a while since I've seen MTG animated this way. And two of some of the biggest Japanese artists are performing this song. 🔥 Probably one of my favorite sets so far in MTG history.
TK is actually an Amazing artist ! He's making all the compositions and the lyrics for most of his songs ! Ιn combination with his unique voice every release is a masterpiece!

Definitely need to check out the other guy singing with him, if you haven’t heard of Koshi Inaba yet then that means you have yet to hear Japan’s top selling band, B’z. I really like this song because of Koshi’s and TK’s contrasting styles (Koshi is old school and TK gives a more modern sound). It’s quite unique, I can’t say I’ve heard a song like this from either of them actually. If you want to get on an anime level with B’z, just check out Detective Conan Opening 6 “Girigiri chop”, or Opening 31 “Don’t Wanna Lie”, probably their two biggest. They’ve done a couple more as well for that series, all solid!
Omg that is TK. I know that singing anywhere. This is making my fall back in love with Magic. I really hope they keep doing this anime type content in the future.

Still hurts to know they did my girl dirty like that haha.
Any non-MTG fan would think of this vid as a theme song/opening for an upcoming anime. Kudos for making this vid, WOTC. Can't wait for the actual set to come out. Also, MTG should have it's own Kamigawa anime mini series come out, and use this song as the opening theme. That would be badass imo.

Wow, this is absolutely the most amazing piece of promotional material Wizards have ever made. Not just anime inspired, but this is full on, high quality anime. Jin Gitaxian or any Phyrexian for that matter, has never looked so good!
this is incredible. i thought the crimson vow one was cool, and then this one blew all my expectations out of the water. amazing job on this one wizards, this set as a whole is really impressive and well executed
I think that one of the things that make this so awesome is that it directly target the existing fan base no exposition dump or voice narrator it's simply showing us exactly what we want to see and by doing so it also make the casual or non fans of the game to want to know more about magic
I you had told me ten years ago that Jin and Tezz were going to be anime villians then I wouldn't have believed you, but here we are. Trailer's looking really slick, hopefully the set does really well.

Phyrexians in animated form. This brings me so much joy. And the quality of the video is outstanding. I'd really like to see an OVA or mini series covering the Neon Dynasty lore in this style.
The potential for a MTG show is so big. But remember: they had a big studio working on something for Netflix and they jumped ship because WotC wanted to have too much creative control over them. The studio wanted to make something cool and rated Teen/M like this but WotC wanted some silly Teletubbies thing. Moral of the story: never let WotC interfere with geniuses and their vision. They can only screw things up.
Average age of a magic player is in their early 30's, if they were pushing for a kids show that was papa Hasbro wanting to sell Teferi action figures, not WotC.

When i started this game as a teen, i asked my local shop clerk, what the most expensive card they had was. He showed me a beta black lotus for 150€ (300 Marks back then) and I thought he was crazy. 🙃
When I start an Arena, the emperor appears on the loading screen. Every time I do, I remember this and it makes me sad. That's how much this trailer has touched my heart.
Like a 5-part animated lore series for each set or something. Or at least two sets a year. They have so much lore to work with its killing me they aren't using it for anything lol
I just found out the story and this was incredibly well done. Would make an excellent movie or series. Especially the twist at the end. Wizards needs to talk to hulu or netflix.
Honestly my favorite set so far. Love it. Also the entire MTG setting is ripe with material to make a full series of anime. Should really give it a shot. I'm sure lots of people would love to get more invested in the lore through something like this. Also more anime themed cards I love the art.

They are still planning an animated series on Netflix for mtg to release later this year. Unfortunately Kamigawa and the Brothers War doesn't seem to be the focus, but it does look like it's going to be a decent starting point involving how Gideon Jura and Jace met.
The Brother's War would need to be done in more of a Castlevania style.

I pulled both in my prereleases. I bought 5 and the first one had the wandering emporor non holo standard print and the last one I planned on keeping sealed, I opened it and pulled Kaito as my stamped foil. Although, I'm trading it for a Kyodai. I know, not entirely worth it but it's gonna be my commander.

Koshi (B'z) is one of the best HR singer in the world. He collaborated with SLASH(GUN'S), Aerosmith, Steve Vai.
Furthermore, it is the vocal of the band that sold the most CDs in Japan. legend.
This is why Wizards should just focus on making an anime, instead of a live action. You can do so much more in anime then you could ever hope to accomplish in live action. Plus, with all the indepth history of magic the gathering, it is much easier to tell a story in anime! Wonderful video and great choice in song!

I love to see companies employ Japanese animators to replicate media inspired by Japanese things. Reality twisting to form the Wandering Emperor, her blade striking Jin Gitaxias, before fading away. Just awesome
This set is the most hyped I've seen the magic community since we went to theros for the first time. I've seen nothing but positive feedback from all the content creators. I heard someone say something the other day. "Magic is magic again."

I had a friendshipsickness.
My best friend, who I shared the hobby with, f*** ghosted me almost one year ago. I had several months that I lost all hope for the game, and for friendship for that matter.
Kamigawa brought me back that hope.
On the other hand, some content creators have reported the lowest boost in viewership post set release with Kamigawa. The set is great but some of WotC decisions with Arena were controversial lately.
Which is weird considering how many people cried when this was announced that a sci-fi set would kill magic or whatever
I've wanted a return to Kamigawa for so long that I was convinced any actual set would be a disappointment, unable to live up to the hype in my head, and here it is and it's better than I could have dreamed. Thanks WotC. This one is really special.
They had planned a cyper punk future world already and made it into Kamigawa halfway through. It was an afterthought we got it at all

Kamigawa, TBH, I don't particularly like the mechanics from that block, but I'm so loving the flavor. Gotta echo @Ian Chongson. So long waiting for Kamigawa, and it returns better than hope.
As for being after thought, why does that matter anyway. There are many great projects that does become great from the start of the planning, but sometime in the middle or even near the end after sudden spark of idea. Wizard made the right decision to made this set into Kamigawa and has done good job following through on that decision such as by giving us this trailer.
Now, if only they made this into a full anime season or two....

I played the hell out of Champions, and so far, NEO feels like a worthy successor to one of the greatest limited formats ever.

Everyone’s going ham for TK singing this (I love the guy too!) but the REAL surprise is Koshi Inaba…the dude is a living legend. If you haven’t heard of him yet he sings for B’z, Japan’s top selling band of all time. It’s such an interesting combination to put an old school rock/pop singer like Koshi with a modern/progressive artist like TK, such an impressive result!
Seriously tho, the fact that they got both TK AND Koshi on one song for a card game is just insane. But then again, if Detective Conan can get B’z multiple times, so can Magic The Gathering

I started playing magic when I was 8 years old my first set was Kamigawa. I was very sad when time and time again we were told that Kamigawa wasn't a commercial success and therefore would not be revisited.
So happy they gave this plane another chance, loving how they refreshed the plane aesthetically while still retaining the planes unique identity as a place of Asian inspired mysticism.
I love the new vehicle support.
Just got done with a Mech/Ninja Commander deck and can't wait to play it.
The problem was more the mechanics and not the plane concept itself. With the current audience and their changes on the mechanics, it is much better.

Though I still think that the War of the Spark trailer is the best they will ever do, if they somehow are able to top the emotional rollercoaster that is a regretful Lilliana turning on Nico Bolas accompanied by a sombre version of "In The End" by Lincoln Park then they deserve some sort of award.

The mtg IP has sooooo much potential... anime style shows would be only the tip of the iceberg.... The whole War of the Spark arc is an Avengers Endgame level story... Nicol Bolas is a badass villain... they could make individual movies exploring each member of the gatewatch... Then unite them into an avengers type movie.. And have a great final climax film for War of the Spark

I think this has been in the works for a while, but Arcane kind of blew everything out of the water in regards to story quality and animation... forcing other like projects into a delay.
I'd love it too, but... frankly? I doubt it will happen. MTG has always been huge in telling novellas worth of story through card art in each set. It's waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too huge at this point and nothing could do it justice. Also it's far too established and coherent, as opposed to Arcane, which was based on frankly lackluster lore the writers were able to transform into something astonishing because they had free space and freedom.

This is some good stuff. Inaba's powerful rock vocals and TK's hushy whispery falsetto provides a stark contrast and a beautiful combination. They're 20 years apart in age and hearing 2 generations of musicians collabing is always a pleasure

Kamigawa is a Japanese themed plane and nothing screams Japanese than anime. Which is a globally recognized art form.
The guy or gal that thought about presenting this trailer in anime form deserves a raise.
Legends of Kamigawa was the first set of Magic I ever played... returning this year to MtG to see Neon Dynasty and how amazing it's been makes me feel like a hopeful kid again.
I've never been more hyped for a set than this. And then you guys went and got TK and one of my favorite anime studios to make this. The stars are aligning.
It's been a while since I've seen MTG animated this way. And two of some of the biggest Japanese artists are performing this song. 🔥 Probably one of my favorite sets so far in MTG history.

Definitely need to check out the other guy singing with him, if you haven’t heard of Koshi Inaba yet then that means you have yet to hear Japan’s top selling band, B’z. I really like this song because of Koshi’s and TK’s contrasting styles (Koshi is old school and TK gives a more modern sound). It’s quite unique, I can’t say I’ve heard a song like this from either of them actually. If you want to get on an anime level with B’z, just check out Detective Conan Opening 6 “Girigiri chop”, or Opening 31 “Don’t Wanna Lie”, probably their two biggest. They’ve done a couple more as well for that series, all solid!

I think that one of the things that make this so awesome is that it directly target the existing fan base no exposition dump or voice narrator it's simply showing us exactly what we want to see and by doing so it also make the casual or non fans of the game to want to know more about magic

The potential for a MTG show is so big.
But remember: they had a big studio working on something for Netflix and they jumped ship because WotC wanted to have too much creative control over them. The studio wanted to make something cool and rated Teen/M like this but WotC wanted some silly Teletubbies thing.
Moral of the story: never let WotC interfere with geniuses and their vision. They can only screw things up.
Average age of a magic player is in their early 30's, if they were pushing for a kids show that was papa Hasbro wanting to sell Teferi action figures, not WotC.
