Funny story, I had a guy I hired to haul cars for my hotshot company last year, he had a Maryland DL which was fine. My insurance hit me with a $4500 surcharge which I agreed to. Progressive said he had a the surcharge because he was an out of state DL (We are based in Alabama), I started dispatching him to southern Texas and he finally broke down and told me he was a non citizen and was nervous driving so close to the border. I should have fired him then but he was a good driver and a hard worker so I didn't. Then towards the end of last year I was going over RTS summaries and found he was stealing diesel from me, his brother was an owner op and I'm pretty sure he was giving him diesel. It's a crazy world out there.
That 804 is from my hometown here in Richmond Virginia. However, with phone apps they can use whatever area code they want to spoof the call. I'm glad you're able to catch this guy before getting him the tractor!

“Gly”: I’m happy you caught on to this before sending money. This scam originated in Nigeria and is as old as the hills and twice as dusty. I learned this scam has less than a 3% success ratio these days but about 10 - 15 years ago when marketing items on Craigslist was really popular it had over a 30% success ratio and made a bunch of Nigerians allot of money. I’m happy you posted this video because it helps inform the public. 👍 Take care!
Haha 😂 that’s hilarious! I sold my Volvo semi so I could buy another bout six mo ago and went thru an almost identical scam! My check looked almost exactly like urs from Wells Fargo. They used 4 or 5 different addresses throughout and different names. I turned it all into my bank including all the correspondence and they were to contact police 👮♂️. However I never heard back so idk 🤷♂️ how it turned out
I had the same exact thing happen to me step for step. I mailed the check back return receipt with tracking and have been watching the check being forwarded back and forth from Carson City NV to Arizona and back again. I listed a motorcycle for sale on Rumbleon and that's how the scammer got my info telling me he wanted to buy my motorcycle and for me to pay the extra money to the shipper. Great Video thanks for sharing.
This is my first visit here. When I saw what other things you sell at 11:48 you got my attention. The solid gold in the background is my #2 hobby, guns are #1. One box had T-Max on it. You see, I'm a 55 year old kid with a roommates full of TRX-4, Losi, RC4WD and way too many other RC vehicles to mention. I'm into rock crawling. I'm on a ranch & there's little roads ALL OVER THIS PLACE! We have a tractor or two on this 22K acre Texas ranch.
I love playing with these idiots. They called on my job and my co workers send it to me. I love messing with them. I waste there time while doing my job and get a laugh. Keep up the good work.
I saw a guy once picked a loader up on side of road and paid someone who didn't own it. The legitimate owner tried to get it back proved he owned it and some scammer tried charging him to fix it and store it. Some people eh.!!!
and that is why I do NOT take checks from anyone! They will say "I'm not carrying 32 grand cash with me"! My response always is "Then you a no get a no tractor"! PERIOD!
The way you deal with this is to insist on bank to bank wire transfers. You have his bank contact your bank and they vet each other and arrange for a bank to bank. It will have to actually clear through the SWIFT system so their is no possibly of fraud. The scammers always walk away from this.
Great job on the follow through, making it as hard as could be on a scammer. I hope this guy is forced to get a new number, i did my part Bruce, have anonymously called his number several times. I almost wonder if I had the same scammer try that on me with a different name it was textbook identical and he sent me extra on the check only he told me he changed his mind about the transportation and just wanted me to send back the difference but he wanted me to send back the difference right away so once I figured it out I realized he was just trying to get me to cash it get the difference sent to him and then he would at least make out with $2,500 that way because I found out the check didn't clear pretty quick after luckily I didn't send any money until I waited on the check... Happened 3 weeks ago
It's the most common scam used by thieves trying to steal from people selling goods. It's bad enough when people are fooled and lose the sale money, but these criminals add to it by stealing the "refund" money as well.
Happens all the time here in Thailand,,,,,,,,,,, you would not believe what people try to tell you,,, great Video, fair play to you, wish there where more people like you…..!
A friend of mine that used to run a used car lot had a sign posted that said In God We trust all others pay cash in other words he didn't take checks either
One thing I picked up on way the fact the guy kept saying his country. When I have sold a vehicle, it seems like he scammers come out of the wood work. Great catch Bruce!
Happened to me to. I sold my Toyota Tundra through Auto Trader. Some guy with Indian accent sent me a check for 10k over the purchase price. It's a dead give away as soon as they ask you to pay the "hauler" up front. It's the lamest scam ever. It must work though cause they are still doing it to people.
Have had a fake check also . Guy lost it when I Emailed him the bank has a 7 business day hold ! Also came back as non-existent account . Then had three in two days ask if they could send a “cashiers check”… Nope.
I had the same thing happen to me when I was selling a older motorcycle. He said he would pay what I was asking for because it was worth it. Then said that he was going to send a check including shipping (truck) and I was to pay the shipper. 3 days later I received a check for the full amount. If I didn't know better I would of sent the shipper money. I went to the police and they said that there wasn't anything they could do about it. They are smart and know that they will catch a few people that don't know better and make money. Scumbags!!! So people beware out there. Later
This is an excellent video. It shows the type of scam where the scammer wants a money return for fake shipping from a fake check. People who say that this is a clickbait video will be scammed someday.
I had the same thing happen to me, only I was trying to sell a guitar. The fact that they weren't worried about checking the guitar out to make sure it worked, or any other concern for being scammed themselves, was a major tip off. They sent me a check for a couple thousand more than what I was asking, "for shipping", as well. I was seriously considering telling them I had deposited their check, but I wouldn't be shipping the guitar to them or refunding their money. In the end, I just threw away the check and ignored them.
Mail fraud is a federal crime. I caught someone but FBI was too busy. It was a tractor business in my case as well but using my credit card. Glad you handled it and all ended well.
Tractor scammers have been All Over me too. "My company is relocating me to your neighborhood, and I need a tractor for the farm I'm buying. I'll send you more money than you're asking and the hauler will pay you." Total Bull Shit!! I asked if I should just send them my social security number and be done with it. The reply was "death certificate". 😔🤠
I had the same exact thing happen for a cat skid steer I was selling on market place. When he wanted me to pay the hauler I told him some choice words and told him the FBI was on the call. LOL Market place is full of crooks!
i usually do all the responses for my dad when he sells stuff on FB marketplace we've had people break in for machinery so we tend to give the address as soon as the person says they're setting off and only accept cash because checks are easily can be fraudulent and are usually unreliable,
I'm glad you were wise enough not to get scammed! It was a shitty little scam idea but one that could redeem a couple of grand if you're incredibly slow in how you deal with cheques. Don't they realize that most people aren't going to release the goods until the cheque has cleared? I won't accept cheques and insist on direct money transfer or no sale. I got paid £12,000 for a car that I sold, the money was paid straight into my bank account via money transfer, I was 100% happy, I gave the guy the car keys and off he went...100% foolproof method.
I had a similar con pulled on me by an EBay customer. The customer sent me an over payment using a bogus cashier's check drawn on a bank in Tulsa, Oklahoma. I almost fell for it. Like you on and one kept equaling three. I turned the whole mess over to the US Postal Inspectors. Because the USPS was used as part of the scam it was a Federal Felony. I had not handled the check, so they were able to get some pretty good prints off the check and overnight mailer envelope. I don't know if they ever got the con. I'm glad you didn't get stung by these scum bags.
I love when these people tell you to “kindly” do something At least they quit calling grown men and women “dear”. That’s actually somewhat insulting to call an American that over the phone or in written correspondence.
Another tell tale event in the phone conversation was the request to use Pay Pals 'Friends and Family'. Unlike an actual product or service purchase paid via PayPal where you can get your money back for various reasons, if you use 'Friends and Family' that money is gone, no way will you ever get it back. If it involves and overseas payment, a recoverable amount from a legit item also has a PayPal charge attached to retrieve your money.

Yeah, can't trust people, much
I would've rated his ass out to ICE
What part of Alabama are you from
That 804 is from my hometown here in Richmond Virginia. However, with phone apps they can use whatever area code they want to spoof the call. I'm glad you're able to catch this guy before getting him the tractor!
We need to get this to Scammer Payback!!!!
I just called him, he didn’t answer but, I gave him some “words of encouragement” if you’d say. I am sorry about that Bruce, I feel you too. I hate when those people waste my time.
Thank You for showing the scam, these morons are always coming up with new ways to scamming legit businesses!! :)
👍 Take care!
im glad you spent the time to waste that guys time Bruce... I hate that people fall for that scam ugh...
However I never heard back so idk 🤷♂️ how it turned out
Thank you for making this video. I hope others see this and become aware of stuff like this
"Not for federal ID" means they didn't opt for the RealID verifications in their license.
Incorrect. It’s for illegals in blue states where they can get an ID card or DL
Most all states IDs & licenses say not for federal ID,BOTH my WV And OR licenses say that on them.
🤣🤣🤣 the phone is off now just tried to call it 🤣🤣🤣 well played Bruce
Yeah me too ✋️ 🙂 if I have time to mess with the scumbag
Great video Bruce thanks for sharing what to watch out for from a scammer.
I saw a guy once picked a loader up on side of road and paid someone who didn't own it.
The legitimate owner tried to get it back proved he owned it and some scammer tried charging him to fix it and store it.
Some people eh.!!!
Lmao, good one
@@Bruce_Wilson was quite funny
and that is why I do NOT take checks from anyone!
Exactly. Scammers always have tells like odd paper check stuff. They never do legit bank transfers.
Great job on the follow through, making it as hard as could be on a scammer. I hope this guy is forced to get a new number, i did my part Bruce, have anonymously called his number several times. GREAT JOB ! Respectfully, Dennis KV4WM, A US Navy Nuclear Submarine Veteran and licensed Amateur Radio Operator.
Once I figure it out it was a scam I would keep playing with them to see if they give up
Yeah me too ✋️ 🙂
Thanks for making your video, it just seems like every one is a scammer and no one works.
You need to get ahold of the TH-camr that gets ahold of the scammers and deletes and destroy there business 😄
Very informative video. You didn't have to do a public service video... But you did and it's needed.. Thank you my guy! God bless!
There is an Army of us on TH-cam fighting scammers
@@joescambait that's awesome
Scammers are everywhere this day and age, great vids young man keep up the great work
It will become normal the way the world is heading
Yeah, they are trying to keep up with blowhard(biden) & his clains men 🙄
If there's vulnerable people out there, there's always some trying to take advantage. The amount of romance scams on dating sites is insane also.
Good video but should of messed him around for a few days, the more of his time you use up, the less people he'll scam
Yeah mess with them they hate to be taken advantage of these scumbags think they are so intelligent
Yes you are a good guy, the only thing fake are the scammers and trolls.
This clawback scam is an old one. I'm surprised scammers still try it.
Good on you man spreading awareness
Wire fraud needs to be reported to USPS postal inspector service! ASAP
Lol, you think they give a damn?
Happens all the time here in Thailand,,,,,,,,,,, you would not believe what people try to tell you,,, great Video, fair play to you, wish there where more people like you…..!
I remember there was alot of these scams going around about 8 years ago. Never take checks.
A friend of mine that used to run a used car lot had a sign posted that said In God We trust all others pay cash in other words he didn't take checks either
i love nothing more than wasting a scammers time
Good stuff Bruce that was funny let's hope he gets lots of phone calls for pizza orders
Cheers Kym
Adelaide
Wow that's super fraudulent, almost like helping a cop dispose of a vehicle that they reported stolen 🙄
"Kindly send via friends and family..." So you have no ability to dispute the charge.
I got the same shit from a scammer trying to buy my motorcycle. Even sent a check for more than the asking price. What a bunch of assholes.
One thing I picked up on way the fact the guy kept saying his country. When I have sold a vehicle, it seems like he scammers come out of the wood work. Great catch Bruce!
Awesome video! Thanks again for taking the time to do this!
Good job Bruce 👏. Got love peaple like that trying to take money from hard working people. Keep up the awesome job 👏 👍
Thanks for sharing this Bruce!
Later
I can't believe people fall for this kind of thing but it had to have worked or else I wouldn't constantly be bombarded with this scamming bullshit .
So sad
This is an excellent video. It shows the type of scam where the scammer wants a money return for fake shipping from a fake check. People who say that this is a clickbait video will be scammed someday.
I sure hope so. They deserve it!!
Wow this is an old scam (at least 10 years). I'm surprised they're still using it... It must still work
you should totally give this scam to scammer payback's youtube channel they go after guys like this guy!
Thanks Bruce actually found out some new things from this video. Thank you for sharing
I called "the phone number you dialed is unreachable, please check the number and try again" 🤣
That’s good that you realize that’s a scammer.Thank you for the video
Sounds like the same jerk who wanted to buy my safe. I knew immediately that a common safe was not worth where he was wanting it shipped.
Very entertaining video. Glad you didn't fall for that old scam. It's been around for a while. At least in my state.
It’s coming back because I had the same scam done on me a week ago
I love when these people tell you to “kindly” do something
At least they quit calling grown men and women “dear”. That’s actually somewhat insulting to call an American that over the phone or in written correspondence.
Great video, thanks for showing us this!!!
GREAT JOB !!
GREAT INFORMATION !!

Awesome job Bruce in beating the scammer at his own game, it just upsets me as how so many people are so vulnerable and fall for these internet thieves ,
Everytime they call me i mess with their evil minds , and is it my imagine that most of theses Scammers sound like they are from India ?
Say Terri maki chut that translates to “your moms pus*y” in Indian that’ll get them worked up lol.
I enjoyed the way you took down the scammer.
Good job ppl need to know about more of these scams
