Loved the stove. For the door and hardware, I was thinking maybe you could have used the bottom of a different paint can for the door and use scrap from the lid to make your hardware. Scoring two paint cans is more likely than a can and some scrap iron. If you ever do a redux of that with a minimum of tools, like a Leatherman, a large nail for punching holes, that would be corporal AF, sir.
I am going out on a limb but I'd say the Marine Corp taught you discipline but most of your outdoor knowledge came from a great father or man and cooking came from mom. You eat so good it just seems you were raised in a old fashioned home with love

When you said double the paint can...lol...I was thinking that...I also wondered about taking the vent out of the back as opposed to top...not sure if that would help...but I actually think if you could piled alot of rock around it...it would heat the rocks and capture and store alot of that heat..love the videos!
I would highly advise that you do not use galvanized metal for any kind of indoor stove, the zinc oxide fumes that can be emitted from it at high temps can cause what's known as metal fume fever
You can acid remove the galvanization or just pre-burn it off like he did. Notice the large amount of black fumes in his pre-burn where it looks like he back off all the "baddies" before bringing inside the tent.
Sure, it can be removed, but it's not on this example. You can see the galvanizing while it's in the tent @ 16:35 or so. Using the actual lid from the paint can would have been my choice

Love the stove idea! Couple of upgrades (added cost): add 4 coupling nuts near the stove and you can remove the legs. If you replaced wing nut with a lock gasp may be easier opening and closing when hot.
Cool idea! The wing nut looks like a pain getting on and off. A metal spring clamp might make that a little easier. Looking forward to your next creation.

We’ve been using a sheet metal stove in our wall tent for 30 years. It has attached a tank that holds 3 gallons of water which helps hold the heat as the fire dies out. In addition to providing hot water for dishes or washing. Starting at about 10 below the stove needs to be fed regularly to stay comfortable!

I know it's not the 100% Bushcraft way, but couldn't you use a solid fuel like bricquets (that's what they're called in Australia). (Coal based chunk about the size of an apple). To give a longer burn time. When you take the stove in you could fill it with them for later use. Just a thought mate. 👍🤠
I used something free and along the same idea as the paint can…… An old mailbox!!! It’s perfect for this concept. It’s longer. It has a hinged door already built in. And it’s flat along the bottom. Give it a try. I think it’d make a great video. It’s a little more practical as far as wood size.

when I was homeless due to repeatedly getting laid off during the start of covid. I made a squated teepee with a heated floor as it reaches -16 plus windchill where I was and the shelters are filled with beg bugs and thieves(staff). hard enough to get back on your feet without your helpers kicking you while your down. anyways. I had found a couple beat up but whole pieces of hollow metal fence post that surprisingly didn't have concrete on the end. they were connected with a elbow joint and not flexible in the least, roughly 7 foot in total. It was laying in the washout of a creek on the edge of town. I dug out a shallow trench across the bottom of my teepee. and laid that pole in the trench and covered it with dirt. on both ends/sides of the pole/teepee I dug a fire hole with the pole at the base on the side. I started a fire in front of my teepee and after a while the air started to pull through the pole to the otherside with some trial and error. fire at the entrance so I could feed it easy enough and keep a eye on it so I didn't set my stuff on fire. it kept me alive but it still wasn't comfy nights. I did this because I tried a fire inside my teepee but any bigger than a 8x8 inch round fire and I was smoked out so matter how much ventilation I allowed. If I'm ever in that situation again I might just make a coal bed outside and bring the coals inside. anyways great content it's given me ideas on how to make it when times where rough. love the attention on knots.

Right on the money with little stove, but with a suggestion to prolong burn without constant feeding. Split wood in chunks with pieces cut about 5 inches long but about 2 inches thick, much like feeding an actual wood stove. On an established bed of coals you can put bigger chunks of wood that burn longer and slower together and continue you coal bed base. See how that works for you along with controlled air intake. To avoid welding two cans, butt the open ends together with five matching holes drilled in the can lid channel to bolt them together after putting in the ash riser. Cut a square door in one end to feed it, thus avoiding the big opening. Good show
What do you think about a 5 gallon steel bucket? it could hold more wood and give you a cooking surface for bacon 🤔. As far as the property goes a survival cabin would be top notch 👌 kind of like a live in classroom 👍

I have a question for you. I really like the stove you built.. do you think that a 5 gallon metal can would make a good tent stove. Also could it burn small blocks of coal. I live in Hazard Kentucky and have access to lots of wood and coal. I like your show because you don't have a bunch of bullshit. You simplify it.
Maybe putting in some charcoal in the stove would help keep a longer fire. I’ve heard of people using a metal mail box to make a small stove. Longer than a paint can and already has a door. Good video bro.

From somebody who has worked HVAC the best way for cutting a circle in tin is to start in the middle and spiral cut to the line. And to eliminate the hooks around the edge of your door never use the shears to full close. Just use the middle of the cutting edge of the shears.

All the food places that deep fry food use oil that comes in 5 Gallon tins. They are throwing these cans away. You can light a bigger fire with thick branches outside, then take the embers and put them in the stove, but offcourse keep the tent ventilated cuz CO poisoning
I've wondered with these smaller stoves and I've never seen someone try, but adding a thermal mass around the stove to retain more heat? Such as rocks or thick logs to capture the heat and release it slower. Would that or could that make a difference? Also, I love your videos! You talk, you show, you explain, you make the viewer understand what you're doing and therefore the viewer can replicate. Keep doing what you're doing.

Probably unnecessary info (PUI)(see I can be hip) from an old man, but your snowman reminded me of a snowman (snowguard) that I saw in Nov 1962 in West Berlin at Checkpoint Charlie when crossing into East Berlin. Both the US guards and East German guards had constructed snow soldiers facing each other with sticks over their shoulders, as rifles, across the neutral zone . I always have thought how ironic that was in the middle of a potential deadly situation that individual soldiers of opposing forces could created humor. Maybe we really don't need war. Did running the exhaust pipe long ways through tent help with heating like those radiant heat pipes? Nice design, will have to try some builds out to fit my needs.
Another good idea for hunting or overnight camping out. But I like the idea on the 2 paint cans for longer wood. But I would use a metal can that is in between 5 gallon pail and paint can , so that way you can store all parts inside the stove while moving to another site.
I thought the paint can would be too small so was looking at building one from some ducting. But seeing it in action has me reconsidering! A little bigger wood may make it last longer. Also, a blanket across the bottom of you front will make a BIG difference in I side Temps. I can't wait to see the upcoming vids you mentioned. That snowman looks ready for action! Pro tip on shovels: search for emergency shovel instead of camping or backpacking shovel. This is a common rebrand item and they are half as cheap if you call them emergency shovel.
From a cursory search, I'm not able to tell a pricing difference in Canada. I looked for low-priced small strong digging shovels, folding or compact or whatever.
Stove turned out great. Suggestion: 5 gallon metal bucket gives you more time between loading up. Not sure if you were going for smaller size stove for hauling around, but the 5 gallon would hold all the parts inside. Also for ease wouldn't the lid to the canister used be easier for the fit and construction?
Just a heads up, Corporals corner don't use galvanized steel for stoves/ovens,pots ect. When galvanized steel reaches 390ish degrees it releases toxic zinc vapors. (The steel you used for the stoves door was galvanized.)
Hey buddy! I'll tell you what can do with that paint can. You leave the label on it, pour out the paint, let the can dry, put valuable items in it, hammer the lid back on, and put it back on your garage floor, and nobody will ever know. That galvanized coating on the metal you used for the stove door creates a super toxic vapor/gas/smoke or whatever you’d cAll it if it gets hot enough.
I built a 5 gallon version out of a steel roofing tar pail I made a rocket stove out of stove pipe, filled the inside of pail with lava rocks for heat retention.

Rather than fussing with joining two paint cans end-to-end, you might want to look into disposable refrigerant cylinders. Auto mechanics and HVAC technicians go through a lot of them. They come in a large variety of sizes and are much lighter than refillable propane cylinders. Obviously, a person needs to exercise due caution to ensure that the tanks are thoroughly empty before piecing an end and cutting the metal in the fabrication process. Also, any painted or galvanized container should be burned-off outside in the open air before being used in a confined space.

Another possibility for the stove would be 5 gallon metal paint can. Not as common, but still acquirable. And as always, thank you for the great video. Keep up the awesome work 👍

You can light a bigger fire with thick branches outside, then take the embers and put them in the stove, but offcourse keep the tent ventilated cuz CO poisoning
I've wondered with these smaller stoves and I've never seen someone try, but adding a thermal mass around the stove to retain more heat? Such as rocks or thick logs to capture the heat and release it slower. Would that or could that make a difference? Also, I love your videos! You talk, you show, you explain, you make the viewer understand what you're doing and therefore the viewer can replicate. Keep doing what you're doing.

Probably unnecessary info (PUI)(see I can be hip) from an old man, but your snowman reminded me of a snowman (snowguard) that I saw in Nov 1962 in West Berlin at Checkpoint Charlie when crossing into East Berlin. Both the US guards and East German guards had constructed snow soldiers facing each other with sticks over their shoulders, as rifles, across the neutral zone . I always have thought how ironic that was in the middle of a potential deadly situation that individual soldiers of opposing forces could created humor. Maybe we really don't need war. Good video, nice fabrication. Keep it up.
Did running the exhaust pipe long ways through tent help with heating like those radiant heat pipes? Nice design, will have to try some builds out to fit my needs.
The snowman is legit.
Another good idea for hunting or overnight camping out. But I like the idea on the 2 paint cans for longer wood. But I would use a metal can that is in between 5 gallon pail and paint can , so that way you can store all parts inside the stove while moving to another site.
I thought the paint can would be too small so was looking at building one from some ducting. But seeing it in action has me reconsidering! A little bigger wood may make it last longer. Also, a blanket across the bottom of you front will make a BIG difference in I side Temps.

Excellent idea using a paint can for heat in your shelter! Some times we forget what is right in front of us to use to enjoy a weekend in the great outdoors! Love the channel, be safe, stay healthy, & God Bless everyone.
Good job you did a test burn outside in the open with all that galvanising burning off giving off toxic fumes 👍 galv burning off can make you feel really ill like a REAL bad head cold /flu. (Welders knowledge 👍) but cracking vid on improvisation, yet again 'OUTSTANDING ! 👌😉

Instead of welding 2 one gallon paint cans look for a metal 5 gallon bucket. Its longer and rounder.

Pro tip on shovels: search for emergency shovel instead of camping or backpacking shovel. This is a common rebrand item and they are half as cheap if you call them emergency shovel.

From a cursory search, I'm not able to tell a pricing difference in Canada. I looked for low-priced small strong digging shovels, folding or compact or whatever.
What about using a larger can,like an old school kerosene can?almost 5 gallon bucket size so maybe not packable

Stove turned out great. Suggestion: 5 gallon metal bucket gives you more time between loading up. Not sure if you were going for smaller size stove for hauling around, but the 5 gallon would hold all the parts inside. Also for ease wouldn't the lid to the canister used be easier for the fit and construction?
Just a heads up, Corporals corner don't use galvanized steel for stoves/ovens,pots ect. When galvanized steel reaches 390ish degrees it releases toxic zinc vapors.
(The steel you used for the stoves door was galvanized.)

Hey buddy! I'll tell you what can do with that paint can. You leave the label on it, pour out the paint, let the can dry, put valuable items in it, hammer the lid back on, and put it back on your garage floor, and nobody will ever know. Great video, like the cabin theme, you look like you've done some carpentry. 👍💪

That galvanized coating on the metal you used for the stove door creates a super toxic vapor/gas/smoke or whatever you’d cAll it if it gets hot enough.

I built a 5 gallon version out of a steel roofing tar pail I made a rocket stove out of stove pipe, filled the inside of pail with lava rocks for heat retention.
Really liked the shelter setup in this video, instead of a paint tin maybe a rectangular metal rations tin may be better suited? great video!
The tin you used for the door ect, looks galvanized. Not good to breath that stuff in when it burns off. Cool idea with the paint can👍

Don't know how to make videos, I barely have Internet access... I live at no zone...and 20 miles out of town...add a screw to the side or front and bend a piece of metal to fit over the screw? It's clear in this 62 year old woman's Head, but is it clear to any one else? I have a wooden stove with a latch on it...I meant it in that sense...just modified to fit the can.

i used a metal 5 gallon paint thinner bucket same as the paint can design just bigger it heats extreamly well and do not have to load it as much with wood

Rather than fussing with joining two paint cans end-to-end, you might want to look into disposable refrigerant cylinders. Auto mechanics and HVAC technicians go through a lot of them. They come in a large variety of sizes and are much lighter than refillable propane cylinders. Obviously, a person needs to exercise due caution to ensure that the tanks are thoroughly empty before piecing an end and cutting the metal in the fabrication process. Also, any painted or galvanized container should be burned-off outside in the open air before being used in a confined space.
