The Jinhao 80 is the Model A Ford of the fountain pen universe. There are tons of Lamy style nibs that fit on this pen -- I know first-hand as this is just a blast to mix and match both for size and optics. This is the pen I gave my children for their first fountain pen experience. I've had a lot of fun with my 80's. The other wonderful thing with the Jinhao 80 is that it is dirt cheap to buy, virtually indestructible, easily customizable and a damned great writer -- perfect for commuting! Thank you Garry!
Purchased 4 Jinhao 80 pens this past month. Every fine nib wrote perfectly. All had been 'tested' or dipped with blue ink. Aliexpress was used and the price in US dollars was 3.35 per pen. Incredible value....
The jinhao 80 is a tribute to the 2000 of course the jinhao 3:25 isn't a hooded nib pen is lighter and isn't made of macrolon...mine is great watching your video means I will go buy a couple more. I grew up with the parker 45s so like the lighter weight. Thanks for the video Gary
I'm patiently awaiting the arrival of a Lamy 2000. I'm planning to compare them, in terms of size, shape etc, certainly not expecting them to be a comparison in terms of performance. So fat I've quite liked the 80, but it does need a wider nib on it for my writing style.
I also don't have a Lamy 2000, but I'm pretty sure (with the pen capped) it is the same measurements. I have 3 and swapped them all out with Lamy nibs from Goulet. It was really hard to get the original nibs out, I ended up using fingernail clippers and ruined the original nibs -but didn't care too much about that. Very good pens -especially for the price.
I'm patiently awaiting the arrival of a 2000, hopefully it should come in this week. I'm then planning a comparison between these and a Kaco Edge, which I think is similar.
I bought this pen with one specific reason in mind - to swap nibs with Lamy. I want to try the Calligraphy nib which will be about 5X the price of the pen! It does look like a Lamy 2000. Also it does not have the Lamy triangular grip. Great First Impressions, Garry.
I have one Jinhao 80 but I have kind of messed up the feed. I tried to clean it thoroughly and could not pull it out to save my life so I used pliers and a towel as a sort of grip but still the tip of the feed was a bit squashed 😅. I ended up reshaping it, cutting the ink channel a little and cutting the very tip off and behold, the pen still writes like nothing happened. I have also ordered a new one because I want one that is not damaged and for the price, it iw not a big deal. Also ordered three new original LAMY nibs (M, F, 1.1) to play around with. Cannot wait.
I think that's one of the nice things about Jonhao pens, they are so affordable that they can be experimented on without worrying too much if things go wrong.
I may add to the review that the clip is spring-loaded and that you can activate it by pressing it on top, just like the Lamy 2000. I suspect many buy it in order to swap the Lamy nib inside. At that price, it is, with another Jinhao, the 51A, the best Chinese pen you can buy. Both never go dry. I forgot the Jinhao 51A for three months, when I found it back, it wrote on the first try. These pens are quite something!
Thanks for your excellent appraisal. It was addressed to the essentials in a stylo. I am looking for a Chinese version of the classics, Parker, Sheaffer, etc. Any suggestion ? Important is the width range of the stylo pen ? Greetings from Finland !
I'm not sure about Shaffer pens, but for Parker you could look at the WingSung 601, Jinhao 51 and Jinhao 100. There may be others but these are the ones that come to mind.
In the few times I've used it since recording this I have found the pen to start the first time, every time. I do need to change the nib, this Fine is just too thin for me.

I put a Lamy China Nib and a Lamy Fine Nib on a Jinhao 80, they work beautifully..

Very nice vedio .wishes from Sri lanka
@@indikathilakarathne9929 thanks. I love hearing where people are from, it amazes me that I’m watched around the world.

Thanks. I'm hoping a Lamy 2000 will arrive tomorrow. Really looking forward to it.

Thanks. I keep forgetting to look at the clips as I don't really use them. Thanks for pointing it out.
The Lamy nib will fit, I have a 1.1mm stub on mine. I like the way it feels in the hand.
Cool. Thanks for that.
Yes, the nib can be swapped with a Lamy Safari style nib.
👍

I love mine, only complaint will be the clip. Writes all the time every time.

You are late to the Jinhao 80 party. There are lots of colours available too.
👍
How much does it cost? 😀
I thought I'd put that in the video, sorry. It's $5 AUD
Yes, Garry, you mentioned it at least 4 times. Great video! You covered all the aspects of this value pen. I do enjoy my 80 as well. @@GarryEves
The cartridge converter I bought for my Lamy Safari cost more than this pen.
I know, and this comes with a converter as well. It doesn't make a lot of sense.
