  • Fishing a small lake with homemade groundbait: epic results. Graeme goes carp fishing using bread and sweetcorn to catch fish!
It's another film from the Totally Awesome Fishing files...filmed pre-lockdown Graeme has added even more into it with some Lockdown jobs to make you guys a film that will surely help take your minds off all the World's problems. An hour and a quarter long, it covers him making a secret paste bait up for a fishing expedition he had for trying a lake he had never seen before and more to the point, when he was there it had barely been fished...That all sounds like a recipe for some "fishy" action, so get yourself comfortable and pour yourself a brew...its another..Totally Awesome Fishing film...Always there just when you need them....ENJOY!

Fishing is high up there with my "can't do without" passions, but aviation has been in my blood sine birth. So without further ado, Hanstridge is just a farm strip, all be a popular one. The first plane on film is a DH-82 Tiger moth a widely used type for decades with army, air force and navy as a basic trainer. A simply gorgeous machine. The trio you recorded are russian in origin. They are Yak 52's and were adapted from the Yak 50 trainer into this type as a light attack aircraft, but now widely used as an aerobatic platform in competitions and in formation display teams.
Apart from that Graeme, many thanks for yet another sanity saving video. Gorgeous carp from first to last. Totally awesome.

Graeme, apologies if you've already covered this but given the lack of bank time, it might be worth hearing a bit about your life in angling, you allude to all the crazy fishing you've done in your normal vids, I for one would love to hear how you got started, you must have plenty of fishy tales!

Who would have thought about 12 weeks would change the human race ??

The bi-plane at 1:02:05 is a De Havilland Tiger Moth which is a trainer aircraft used by the RAF in the 30's and 40's, and the 3 ship of aircraft just after are Yakl 52's which are Soviet trainer aircraft from the 70's! Nice bit of carp bashing, off the top is always the best way to catch them!!

Great vid yet again. You're an inspiration mate. Always keeping me motivated. After you were saying about your fish loss in the pond and your woodwork skills, I was thinking you could have a go at one of those raised timber framed ornamental ponds. Either near the house or even the tackle shack as it's got power for filter etc. You could make some kind of hinged mesh lid to protect the fish in your absence. A good lockdown project 💪.

Fish can see in red, green, blue, and ultraviolet. That's why carp fishermen use boilies that are very bright in colour. From Justin in West Midlands, England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿.

I've always made paste with egg and groundbait (you can add whatever flavourings you like in the same manner as you displayed) as its way more durable. I rarely use it directly on the hook unless I'm stalking but I do like to wrap other baits in it for added attraction, nothing against it as a hookbait but I'm generally after specimens rather than fishing for a bite and it doesn't allow me to be selective. I'd go as far as saying that it's one of the most attractive baits going but unless you're sight fishing you can't stop the blades whittling away at it before the bigger fish get a chance. I've found a good way of presenting it is to use a meat screw made from a section of spring tied on a hair, you can wrap a nice ball of paste the spring and it'll hold on even if you need to chuck it a fair distance.
As for your mystery fish it's hard to tell. Looked like a half decent crucian but without counting the scales along the lateral line and number of spines in the fins it's impossible to confirm, could have been a crucian/carp hybrid or a carp/goldfish hybrid.

Always good viewing, Graeme! (Well, nearly. So long as you're fishing and not laying carpets! :-D)
Regarding the fish you catch around 1 hr 12 into this. The F1 's I've caught all look like beefy bream to me - silvery copper scaling, black fins, dotted line down the middle, high back with a dip before the head. That isn't a Crucian, as well you know!! They have copper gold colouring and fins as red as a Rudd. If you've got several species of carp in the same lake isn't their a natural possibility of cross breeds and hybrids? The one you caught earlier in this film, for example, that you thought was a 'Ghost', looked for all money, like a' Mirror x Common' hybrid to me!. Who know's for sure without some good old Germang genetic research?!

Great videos, however I wish you could get yourself a wireless microphone.... I have visions of you casting and seeing the camera flying through the air into the water, haha!

As soon as I get to a fishery I always chuck half a dozen biscuits in the water before I set up

If you get it right its unbelievably effective.Especially summer and autumn...but of course the fish have to be keen to feed as well.
