Hello peanut gallery! I knocked out a very simple quilt in this video. I hope it's not too simple! I really think with nice fabric prints it would look so much better. But plain is cool too! This would be an excellent way to use up some fat quarters. I hope you give it a try! Thanks so much for watching. Darlene Michaud , Hi you are Awesome, your teaching is brilliant. Your way of sewing is so easy to follow. I am your #1 fan and are so grateful for your ideas.I visit Lancaster PA. And watch the Amish sew their Quilts and have been looking for a simple way. Thanks to you I have. Keep teaching . Bea Haines
Before I moved I helped my Mom make quilts for family for Christmas and she helped me. Such good memories. I live to far away now. Thank you for sharing.
Darlene, I just found you and I can't stop watching you! You make me smile while teaching...... Amazing! It is 2:00am and I must try to sleep if my mind will stop going thru my stash to make a quilt..... LOL.... I am NOT going to my sewing room..... I am not.... LOL.... until tomorrow..... thank you so very much!!!!! I will be watching again!
my friend Lucy and myself are watching your videos picking out quilts to make. so excited! Hoping all went well during your procedure yesterday. prayers said for quick healing. Blessings y'all and thank you so much Darlene.
I love watching your thought process being born. While watching you I will have a "what if " thought. And half of the time you will say what I was thinking. I don't know whether to feel proud or afraid. just kidding. At 65 I need all the encouragement I can find. So I will feel smart.
I love your videos! While I am also intrigued by those that are precise and exact in measuring, cutting, pressing and pinning every little thing, you are so down to earth and keep reminding me that it doesn't have to be *perfect*. I appreciate your inspiration, insights, tips, and your sense of humor. Thank you!! Please keep sharing.....
Thank you so much for this! You made it look so easy. I wanted to make a quilt and I wanted to start off with a sweet and simple style. This is perfect.
Can't be too simple for me. I try so many things, but never master any, so I give up. I didn't have the most encouraging parents and giving up kind of became habit. Your projects help me to finish things and I am so encouraged by that.
I am so glad you used batting. I am on my first quilt for my husband and I spread the entire thing out to cut the batting. It was so hard to do. You have shown me the greatest shortcut!!!
Love the video! Always good to have a simple project now and then...this makes me want to knock out one of these today! And love your easy going sense of humor...no quilt police needed!
Thank you thank you thank you......I have to do baby blankets for twins and I was trying to think of an easy way to get them done by next month. You are a lifesaver..... now to go through my material...
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS VIDEO!!!!!!! i have tons of fat quarters and have been starting to dabble into quilting and i didnt know where or how to even began so im so glad u did this video!!!!
I love it! The patterns turned out gorgeous together. I would love to see a tutorial on tying down at center/seam of a quilt! I love the no-nonsense way you sewed this quilt together. Now I know when I make my first quilt that it doesn't have to be rocket science. ;) I have no reason to procrastinate it as you made this seem so doable.
Thanks for this video. I'm new to sewing and quilting and have been looking for the most basic tutorials as a jumping off point to start learning the different techniques involved.
Thank you Darlene...you make me chuckle how you just think things up and just do it...no pattern etc, wished I was that fly with the wind hahahaha. Sending ya another huge hug...gosh I'm being brave hahaha
You know, my mother made each of my kids a one piece quilt... a yard of fabric on each side, just sewn and hand tied. They lasted for over 20 years a piece, and the kids used them into adulthood. (she also made other quilts along the way, but these were the ones that lasted longest as she never machine quilted them, and it was tough on the quilts when they were washed.) This is a perfect way to make a pretty, reversible quilt for charity and shelters, more durable by far for anyone that gets them. The one thing about the charity part is they don't like tied quilts. NOT TO WORRY. In one night, with pretty embroidery thread you can do simple stitching and quilt it by hand, or do simple machine lines, no more than 4" apart which is more than enough to make it floofy!
I love to watch ur videos..n a big thanks..I made a quilt half triangle one for an exhibition n it won a lot of appreciation...I hv it all to u... thanks again
watching your tutorial thank you for the no rule for making he quilt , I have on piece of material with print so what I will do is to put together all 3 pieces top batting and bottom then quilt around the print .. love your sense of thing darlene
Thanks so much for this tutorial 🙏 I must have listened to 4 and yours made sense ! God Bless you 😊 I bought a Halloween large panel , batting and of course Halloween material for a backing ! I am so happy I found your video , thank you 🌹
Can you show us the self-binding blanket? There are so many tutorials out there that really don't show the nuances. I love how you comment throughout your videos - helps with understanding
I'm new to quilting. The only thing I've done so far is (poorly) fixed a hole in my comforter. This looks like my kind of quilt! Easy, simple and it's ok if I'm not perfect with it. I will absolutely try this! P.S. You seem like a very awesome person! That's what made me subscribe to you.
Loved this tutorial.... my Mom always called the way you finished it "the envelope style". You are right, it's hard to do on big quilts, but nice 1 yd or 1 1/2 yds throw size are perfect.
Thank you, Darlene. It looks like a quick, fun, and easy quilt. I want to do this with some flannel yardage novelty fabric, which was on sale since it was the end of the bolt. It'll be for my grandson.
Thanks so much. I have 2 to make for xmas, this will help. Lost my husband a few months ago, after 60 yrs. I got to keep mind and hands busy. I will be watching all the new videos, have missed you. Joyce from mich.
To simple? Until I ran across your vid all the other so called 'beginner' ones were just confusing me...strips & rulers & mats oh my. Yours is a perfect one to start with & btw....love your color choices. Thanx for sharing :)
Darlene, I love it, can show us that 1 inch stitching u mentioned, my sister n laws mom did that on quilts she would make us when we would get a new baby ,she passed away and i think someone should carry the tradition on.and i am learning through your channel to quilt (thank u 4 that)so maybe when u get time you could teach that to me ,hugs and blessings
I am a perfectionist and I have to have perfect intersections. I use my sewing machine's longest basting stitch to baste each intersection before sewing the permanent stitching. It's easier to remove an inch or two of basting if the intersections are off. After sewing the permanent seam, I remove the temporary basting. I envy free spirited quilters because sometimes mistakes turn into creative masterpieces.
Darlene, I love it, would it be "tacky" to do two 9 patches together to fit a queen bed with a lot of hangovers? I know I could add big borders but would love the whole bed top to be covered?
You can do any tacky thing you want! lol And you don't even have to use the actual size of the fat quarters. You can trim them smaller than 18 by 20 if that works better for you. To cover a whole queen bed, I'm thinking you might need the 9 patch to be taller, like maybe 4 rows tall, so 3 across by 4? I don't really know, but you need to figure out wha you want for a final size then go from there.
Hi Darlene i just watched this video but I notice its been 6 years since you uploaded but I can't find part 2 love. Any ideas where I can find it. Desperate Aussie 😂😂

I did a queen size quilt this way, with the self binding. I am not able to machine quilt yet, so I hand tie. This works perfect with that method
Thank you, Darlene. It looks like a quick, fun, and easy quilt. I want to do this with some flannel yardage novelty fabric, which was on sale since it was the end of the bolt. It'll be for my grandson.

You make this look sooo easy I shall try I’m a newbie for quilting 🤗
I liked your video. Thank you for sharing.
You could also make a tube that allows you to have all four colors on each side. I love this idea!
Oh thank you. I inherited many fabric and was lost what to do or how. Great easy idea . ❤️it
YOU. are hilarious! I love your manner.
Your quilt is beautiful it doesn't matter if it's what you do on the ends, as long as it's nice and toasty warm inside , lol
Thank you Darlene !
Absolutely brilliant!

I like your blouse.
You could use buttons that would look cool.
I really enjoy your videos and would like to see the tying and long running stitch on that quilt thank you
just beautiful
Thank you I love it and would like to see the stitching you are talking about also.
An excellent choice
Learning so much. TY
What a fun and easy project!
Thank you.
Big Stitch yes please :-) *very few videos on it
Really good video and easy to follow for a newbie like me lol thanks
I LOVE IT .......
Very invasive that ideal thank
Your awesome..
By chance do you have a diaper bag tutorial
Darlene love your tutorial question can I use flannel with cotton, flannel backing and flannel inside? Thanks
Yes, yes, yes you can! You have my full permission to do anything you want! Flannel is awesome for backing and batting.
Hi Darlene i just watched this video but I notice its been 6 years since you uploaded but I can't find part 2 love. Any ideas where I can find it.
Desperate Aussie 😂😂
That's because there is no part 2. It ended with me suggesting to tie the quilt in several places or to quilt it any way you want.

@@darlene.michaud oh ok thanks my dear x
Do you use a walking foot to sew the 3 layers together?
You said to visit you on Patreon. What is that? Do I just Google that word?
Darlene
1st to like
Why does it need tying or quilting ?
If you dont tie or quilt the batting could bunch up in places or the quilt wont always lay as nice 😊
What is a salvage edge
From an online dictionary: an edge produced on woven fabric during manufacture that prevents it from unraveling.
I like! Is that some of the fabric from your aunt?
Nope. This is all fabric I purchased recently at marden's.
