Game developers take note: they recorded over 2 hours of thug conversations in this game to build the story and set the atmosphere right. That's called effort and quality.

Joining any of the gangs is dangerous. Joker pretty much kills anyone who comes near the Steel Mill on a whim, Penguin is a sadistic guy who will leave his own goons to die, Two Face treats his men well but could very well flip a coin and decide to kill them if they fail too many times, and Riddler forces you to work with one of the three of them. And that's not even getting into the fact that joining one and having to fight against any of the others is pretty much a death sentence.
Staying neutral would be the best choice.

Callum Webb There's a guy in Joker's gang who was killed by Zsasz. There's a guy in Two-Face's gang who got killed by Calendar Man. Penguin's thugs get piled up and murdered by Joker's men. There's no safety either way you go.

The Joker is crazy but he is also a genius. I don't know what is it about him that makes the thugs to join him. Between the Penguin and Two-Face, I'd say Two-Face is a more respectable leader. There was this part in the Steel Mill where you could see how loyal Two-Face's thugs are. That one guy would rather be boiled alive than snitch on his boss.
Inmate#1: So we are trapped here, right?
Inmate#2: Yeah, but look at the bright side.

My favourite thug conversation is when they do an impression of Joker and Harley in the Steel Mill.
Thug 1 as Harley: Oh Mr J please hurt me some more
Thug 2 as Joker: OK my dear why don't you go and fight Batman while I make a daring escape.

My favorite conversation is the one where the goons play rock paper scissors. Each of them could be seen making the proper hands. One of them kept making funny hands, like gun and dynamite. They're the goons in the room with Nora, if I remember correctly. It's amazing how the developers put so much detail into this one scene.
I'd work for Black Mask, he's probably the only one that won't kill you because he didn't get what he wants, flipped a coin,or killed you just for the fun of it.
If I was in Arkham City I'd join Two Face's gang because he treats his men OK as long as his coin doesn't come up bad.

The conversations are one of the reasons why I love this game
These conversations excel in bolth quality and quantity. Its so interesting seeing many inmates' takes on the current situation in arkham city, and I never hear the same conversation unless i restart a checkpoint.
It's funny that you say that. Initially, I kinda just powered through, not really paying attention to what they say, unless they are too far away to attack immediately, then of course, I'm taking in what they're saying.
Most of the conversations seemed mundane and random (funny though), until I started to realize that the thugs would do just as you said: start talking about the current situation and where we are in the story. They even give little clues, hints and easter eggs here and there.
"One day Joker is sick, one day he's healthy like nothing happened. Almost like he's a different person." Or something like that.
"I heard Harley used to be a Man."
Turns out, awkward truth is a dude did most of the motion capture for most of the characters, including Harley, so his general build was the framework for the character model.😅
The thug conversations are also useful in finding certain objectives. I'm pretty sure in Knight, there are thugs who talk about "yo, I saw a dead body..." around the opera killer or something like that in City when finding corpses at crime scenes.
This is pretty much the gossip of Arkham City like you would hear in a hair dressers if you were willing to fork out a stupid amount of money to get your hair done or you were dragged there. "Oh my god girlfriend did you hear that Batman was in town?" "Oh I know!"
Interesting. In Arkham Asylum, the conversations pop up more frequently in the Mansion stage and on. Maybe they had the idea of the conversations midway the game and then decided to do it more frequently in Arkham City.
This certainly makes the game funnier and lets not say realistic.

These conversations are so interesting sometimes they actually lead to some easter eggs some thank you for this vid btw.
I never noticed that bit of foreshadowing in Two-Face's speech before. At 12:59 he says, "When the clown dies, we will own this town."
1. In #7, they talk about Calender Man.
And 2. In #10 they're talking about Zsasz.

It’d be dope if instances like the inmate talking around the pay phone actually someone led into the zazz mission you listened long enough. Like what if you followed an Inmate to one of the locations???

I love that in Batman Arkham City, Arkham Origins & Arkham Knight that they made the enemies or npcs talking to each other while you listening to them if it's funny or they are talking the characters they saw
Hold on. The thug said that Gordon closed down the old GCPD building 5 years ago? So does that mean the GCPD building in Arkham Origins is the new one?
Don't think to hard about it because WB Montreal didn't do their homework when they created the game. Think of it like a fanmade movie or trailer or something they just made for fun. Or they got kinda lazy. But the lesson of Arkham Origins is that if your going to try to make a prequel or something do your homework. It's messed up to the original creators if you make those prequels lazily.
Alex Ander No the building from Arkham Origins is the old one and since the thug says Gordon closed the old GCPD building 5 years before City Gordon must have closed it sometime after Origins but before Asylum.
How’d the old building get to Arkham City area then?
@@Grove_12-Heroes I'll try to explain this, Okay, so basically, The city In Origins Is basically Arkham City they just put up high security walls around It Origins Is set 5 years before Asylum & City Is maybe a year after Asylum, If you've played Origins South Gotham on the map Is Arkham City It's even shown as an Easter egg In the Warden's office back on Arkham Island,
If you look around In Origins you will even see, the church,
the courthouse, the museum & even the steel mill.

I have learn 3 things bout these games . 1. The creators did'nt do their homework. 2. Thugs are awesome (especially jokers). 3. The only way to take down harley is to throw her in a random direction (mostly walls)

I doubt the title will be as ridiculous at Arkham World, maybe City of Terror like the code to open Scarecrow's boat, but either way I'm excited to see what Hush and Scarecrow have in store for the next game, and I hope to see other characters make physical appearances like Promtheus and Firefly, and Manbat(the only major Batman villain never mentioned or even referenced in either of the games)
The conversation between thugs is the only reason why i enjoy arkham games.

Goons are goons, but they do are smart. One guy is able to identify organs from bisected mess one person left and they know messing up Harley Quinn is crazy (as in suicidal) and getting involved with her is too crazy (as in just crazy) for anyone.

I'm trying to find a specific conversation that I wanted to send to my friend but forgot when that conversation took place in the story, it went something like:-
Thug 1: I like to look at the bright side, you know.
Thug 2: Not me, if crap's gonna happen, it's gonna happen to me.

Conversation 13 is actually longer then that. It's literally one of my favorite conversations. At the end he says something along the lines of "for being a frozen ass, ya she was pretty hot". This may come later though, I'll watch the other videos.

i think the most funniest convo the thugs had is when ur near the iceberg lounge after defeating catwomen and heading to the muesum is when the thugs says i heard they call 2face 1 face now

there is also one at the point, where the third Deadshot victim is lying, and you have the goons standing around the corps, one says, that he hasn't seen a shot this good since two face hired deadshot!
