    I moved to Ireland last year. I didn't plan to stay permanently or anything; just work temporarily to save up some money. I legit had to move back with my parents because I could not, for the life of me, find ANY shitty room to rent in Dublin. I legit sent over 700 emails. Like, bruh I was facing homelessness like wtf?

    As a Croatian living in Ireland you must find the people there working in the service industry so much friendlier then Croatia.I’ve been to beautiful Croatia a few times and loved it apart from some of the people are ridiculously rude especially in the service industry.One thing that stands out with Ireland is how warm and welcoming people are and the great service.

      don't get me wrong I can't judge by your experience, each individual have different expectation of life and perceptions,sure we can say that people leave Croatia due to a corruption, high taxes,low paychecks, nepotism (and that's all true I'm pretty sure someone will give more reason why they move abroad), generally what my personal thoughts are nobody really wanted to left but they were left no choice, inability to have roof over their own head from their own salary and ability of prospect to advance in their own carrier are main deal breaker (I'm not trying to brush every one with same brush) but looking from my own perspective working dead end job where taxes and rent eats away my salary it just feels like I have nothing to looking forward,and you are being bombed by politics and affairs 24 /7 , retirement plan are nothing but ponsi scheme to fill pockets of the same politicians and CEOs on the "private" corporations (whose major shareholders is government) to cover the loses because those ltd's serves the purpose of employment of different political party lackeys,half shelf corporations where you are unable to tell in finical books illegal assets from legal jobs,same people that said they are working on demographic measures instead as results of their actions prices are at least twice expensive of those in the west (how often the make up new taxes) ,but all in all country is beautiful and relatively safe ,so if you work abroad than you don't have to worry about anything, otherwise it let's you no choice but to move abroad where you are capable of living your life,not just try surviving month from month hunger games style.

      I've just visited the West Coast and see property more affordable than UK, albeit I'd be looking at a family home rather than starter or rental. Price wise some things seem more expensive, however post-Brexit there is better stock in supermarkets and some things are cheaper or better quality so balances out. I looked at equivalent council tax and it seems alot cheaper than UK. Electricity about the same, gas isn't widely available in some parts, but people tend to have oil central heating (expensive), but also use multifuel stoves with turf/peat harvested locally.

      True but Ireland doesn’t get many sunny 🌞 days in the average year. 2 weeks late in the spring that comes out of nowhere after raining all winter with grey sky’s and damp cold which gives you a chest cold easily. Then cloud grey and barely warm in the summer. Then another week or two late autumn if you’re lucky that year. That’s what I remember living there for 20 years. I moved to florida and it’s 230 days on average in sunshine per year.

      When I moved to Florida mine was really low and now with the 230 days plus per year of sunshine I have improved drastically. Which is why everyone here is always happy and friendly and in a good mood and why they don’t cut people down and are really negative like back in Ireland. They are the ones suffering with it the most.

      Well that’s true the high cost of rent is because the average income in Ireland is much lower than most of Western Europe, and the taxes much higher. After you get your after tax paycheck then everything you buy is expensive accordingly because that item like cigarettes are also taxes highly. The packs of 20 cigarettes are not much change from a €20 euro bill ($20 U.S)
      Not to mention in the middle to the west of the country it rains on average 230 days per year. More than the eastern side of the country which In turn is more expensive because of this fact! Plus obviously it’s more packed with people.

    I think the fact you are from Croatia is clouding your judgement on what you consider to be expensive. Croatia is a very cheap and (arguably) not a first-world country, so pretty much every country to the west of Croatia will be expensive, relatively. I'm a Brit living in the UK and having just run some comparisons with the Tesco Ireland vs Tesco UK supermarket websites, on all products I compared, the prices in Ireland (after converting the euro price to gbp) were cheaper than the UK by 5-10%, including fuel. I'll give you motoring costs, particularly insurance - no argument there. But housing costs? Nope. Housing costs in the UK are minimum 3x more expensive than in Ireland, like for like. You can basically get a small mansion in its own private gated grounds, an acre+ of land, sea or mountain views, no neighbours for miles, all for 350k euros (just under £300k) . In the UK that would be absolute minimum £1m - more like £2m+ if you don't want any neighbours.
    For us Brits at least, the overall day to day costs are roughly comparable, but definitely cheaper if you add in property purchase. Ireland's a great place - much like the UK was 40 years ago with a slower pace of life and not the overcrowded craphole that it's rapidly turning into. The weather is comparable for anyone who has lived in an exposed part of the UK. Wind, rain, grey, and 20C on a good day is the norm for this part of the world as we sit on the edge of the Atlantic ocean, at the very end of the gulfstream. The variety in the climate is one of the things I like.

    • @Corrky

The multinationals set up divisions here and treat the Irish market differently to elsewhere, citing a smaller pool and bigger awards as a reason for high prices. That looks dodgy to me too. But what you said about the welfare state is completely true. People are left idle frustrated and bored so they do stupid things and I would say that's a big hi it's costing the state 8.2 billion a year on mental health when we only have a population of 6 or 7 million. It's a crazy country.

    400 /600 euros is not a lot for one bedroom, especially in a decent or nice place in Europe. And it's even more true if you extend that to the whole western world! Renting for 400/700 dollars in any good city in the U.S is dirt cheap! It would cost a looot more. I don't advocate that, don't get me wrong, in fact it should n-o-t be that expensive because it is expensive, you right. But it's not a surprise and it's not that recent. I'm always amazed how naive people are when they're moving to decent or nice western places. Of course housing is gonna be bloody expensive! Go to Italy, Espagne, France, Germany, the U.S, you name it... It's expensive everywhere!

      Ireland is still full of West Brits. There's enough money in the economy so that ALL should be easily comfortable, if you turn on your own, you stop asking why this isn't so, and who is really benefitting. Classic Anglo/American divide and conquer, full of greed, with the richest people telling their own why they can't afford anything that's fair. Keep Ireland Irish, welcome those who can contribute, and also those that can't, but need our help, remember the history of our treatment, and begrudge no one, especially your own.

  • @peterdoyle1591
    @peterdoyle1591 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    Yeah! If you rent a room or even rent a house you're kinda at the bottom of the barrel. They are all sh*t is fairly accurate. Irish people don't like renters in general because they can be a pain in the ass and take liberties because most move on anyway and you might need therapy to get over them. A good neighbour is a joy and a bad neighbour is a nightmare on elm street. Car insurance is only 3000 euro if it is a new policy and you don't have any no claims bonus. Don't kill anybody or write off any cars for a few years and it will come well down below a grand. As for the rain? Well, we get a bit too much and a bit depressing. Still, it's a pretty benign part of the planet. If you don't burn your house down it should be there when you get back.

      J35US, do you even hear yourselves?! Even as a 'foreigner' one is not beholden to like every last damn thing about a place; one is _even_ permitted to mention it! I mean, obviously the situation - and manners! dictate that one be circumspect in what you say, but in all fairness to this chap, his points seem pretty mild, and reasonable - even where I _dis_ agreed with him, it would be hard to get worked up about it.
      I've only just come upon this channel and I know almost nothing about this geezer but going by his demeanour it seems pretty clear, he's a contributor (to Irish life) and certainly no gouger. As far as I can gather, he's not even an immigrant, 'as such', however one might feel about _that_ whole can of worms... Us Irish are constantly moaning about _everything,_ I mean, seriously: it's like, "grouse, grouse, grouse, bitch, bitch, bitch!" - and that's when we're at home, never mind when we're abroad! "They _refuse_ to speak English... The state of the service; big, sulky pusses up on them..! You can't get Coronation Street on the telly... Don't know how to pull a pint, it's just fired up in front of you... They've _no sense of 'The Craic'!"_ etc, etc.
      It would be almost hypocritical, were it not for the fact that, at least in the West, it is almost universal - this paradoxical sense in which _'We'_ can complain about the state of our roads; _'We'_ can complain about our corrupt and inept politicians; _'We'_ can complain about the mind - numbing drivel on our television screens - but Heaven help the visitor who has the temerity to complain about so much as the weather! The experienced traveller - _any_ traveller with a degree of native 'cop~on' - is aware of this (or certainly ought to be) and behaves accordingly, but as with all things, one can take a thing too far. The way Mr. O'Sullivan and his co~commenter are going on, one might think the content creator had gone into their literal homes, accused their 'smelly' wives of 'not knowing how to burn toast' and said that their 'ugly' children were 'slow - witted', looted the fridge and the medicine cabinet and left, but not before pi55ing all over the toilet seat! I'm not one of these "Koombiya/Diversity is our Strength" types×, but we _have_ always prided ourselves on the "Céad Míle Fáilte" ("One Hundred Thousand Welcomes") bit. Lighten up a little!!
      ×Nonetheless, I am glad to live in a country where I can get a kebab or a Chinese takeaway on the way back from the pub, rather than having to 'chaw' on a crúbín (pig's foot)!

    Welfare abuse is one of the biggest reasons I tend to oppose it. Even C0v1D checks made people overly reliant in a short period of time; some making more than they ever did at their jobs.
    People don’t need welfare as much as governments need to learn to BUDGET and reduce their taxes/employees by half; then watch market freedom yield a boom.

  • @SanjayFGeorge
    @SanjayFGeorge 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    I'm from Keralam in India. I've been in Limerick almost a year and I'm glad to find a Croatian's perspective very similar to mine. I agree with the following points.
    1. Rent is expensive. Accommodation is also not great. The houses are all so small and they seem to prefer to not having more than 1 bathroom. Maybe historically they had a bad time with laws and housing codes - but it's time to move on. I also don't understand why they have the room heaters close to the windows in so many houses instead of far away from the windows so that the heat loss occurs only after the heat has had an opportunity to flow through the room. Thermodynamically insane.
    2. Social Welfare - Ireland has not yet been destroyed by the woke left but it's happening all the same. Both immigrant and native taxpayers all over the world are taken advantage of welfare moochers (both immigrant and native).
    3. Car insurance is a bitch. And getting a driver's license is also troublesome.
    4. You get used to the rain and weather but for a new person the cold is unbearable. And energy costs in winter are really bad. It's one big island meadow in the middle of the cold Atlantic ocean. However when the sun shines, it's like the Shire from LOTR.
    5. Double Pipes ... from the fires of hell lol ... I never understood why they don't have a mixer by default. They usually have it in the kitchen sink but nowhere else.
    Rent+ : I'd like to add that its hard to get a proper answer from a potential landlord. People here are so polite they don't say NO (or YES) to your face. A bit annoying. Just say Yes or No. I think the political correctness police have fucked up the organic relationship people naturally develope with each other and people are very wary of saying NO or scared to say YES. I don't blame them though. I think there are some official and unofficial policies on human behaviour prescribed by the EU that have affected their normal way of interacting. I still love the Irish people ... they are one of the good things about this island. I only wish they would learn their own Gaelige language more. Knowing an extra language is good for brain developement.

    • @RoryMonaghan
      @RoryMonaghan 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The politeness here predates any political correctness movement. My grandparents and great grandparents were also very polite and apologetic if asking for something or if they feel they are putting someone out. It is just a cultural thing. It is speculated it is borne out of poverty. Not wanting to take, if you have something you want to offer it and if you need something you need the apologise for it. People don’t want to disappoint each other.
      There are always exceptions though. You’ll find people who just say no

    Ireland is a poor backward country on the edge of Europe with no future .
    The economy will go into recession for a few years due to the Russian sanctions.
    He is correct .The cost of living is the 2nd highest in europe.Everything is expensive.
    There are much better and cheaper countries to live in like Spain,Romania ,Poland etc.

    Automatically a person attacking social systems lost my respect because even if a few(there’s always gonna be people taking advantage but we shouldn’t stop a good program for a few.) misuse it for their purposes there’s still more people who can benefit and need it. You can tell he probably had a beef with them or dislikes some of his locals there but that doesn’t mean EVERYBODY is just doing jack at their house. People will always use their “feelings” to discredit or disapprove something they don’t like. Tired of ultra right wing ideals which only takes us back even further. This applies to any country btw. There’s always gonna be people attacking “social” programs just because the word “social” makes some idiots panic. I.e Putin attacking Ukraine over “nazi” attack. And don’t call everybody Lazy. You perpetuate the very very wrong assumption that the world is fine and people are getting all the wage to survive. Dude get out of your TH-camr bubble man. People eat shit. Stop shitting on the little some have…not that it matters since it’s a TH-cam video but I’m sure I’ve done my part here.
    Stop hating on good programs and copy the good….

      He’s probably the person who thinks if I’m not making 100k a month at least and don’t have six degrees then you are lazy. Hahaha he’s probably the same one that things people with mental health issues are lazy hahahah….

    I totally disagree ,having been to Eastern Europe I found the standard of housing horrible.
    It’s expensive when you consider their wages a doctor 600€ a month .
    They pay for water and electricity is expensive.
    The people look miserable and look as if they want a one way ticket out.
    Lastly they are all coming here .
    Are they coming for the weather or social welfare ????

      Have you considered that they might be coming for work? There's loads available. We'd be knackered without European tradespeople.
