    I grew up with a girl who has this. We are in our 50's now and she is doing great! Keep the faith. Despite the idiots commenting, you're a good mom and a great advocate for your son.

    A precious video. And special thanks to the commenters who have MSUD and are sending encouragement to these parents. Having a child with a rare disorder is so scary; reassurance is so sweet.

    Jany B - don’t listen or pay attention to negative comments. Babies do not come with manuals or the ability to communicate. Plus, it was obvious you were very touchy with your beautiful baby boy and were caressing him with love and hope and worry. You’re an amazing mommy to Baby Oli and he’s yours because of all the Mommy’s in the world God chose YOU to provide and protect and love him! He’s an absolutely Beautiful gift and it’s very obvious you will always be here for him! You have a very thoughtful and grateful and loving heart that showed through the entire video but especially at the end where you thanked so many people who have been on this painful journey with you and Oli. It was extremely thoughtful on your part to acknowledge so many people. God Bless You & that Gorgeous baby boy! I’m praying that your family will be fine from here on out!

      When I was a little kid just discovering the original Star Trek, the blue uniforms which Dr. "Bones" McCoy and Mr. Spock wore confused me.
      I used to think "Dr. Spock's Baby Book" was written on the Enterprise....
      ...just saying.

      Oh how nice that you still get the notations on this video . You don't have to say thanks to me sweetie, I owe you & your son. I was in a bad mood, just down. I started flipping thru videos trying to find one that would interest me. You know how it is when you are just unhappy and nothing seems interesting? I am stuck at home and getting frustrated and cabin fever. I generally don't watch baby videos because I'm a granny and these things don't always end well and it gets to me more now then it did when I was younger. Your son's thumbnail came up and I know I was probably sitting here by myself with that dumb smile that you get when you see something adorable, lol. When I saw Oliver in the hospital with all of the tubes and IVs I just lost it. I haven't cried in a while at least not like that! But then get got better and better as well as cuter and cuter!
      I had never heard of MSUD and I looked it up and learned more about it. There was not much about the long term diet and how this effects adults but I'm not done reading about it.. I wish the best for your little family and I have this feeling Oliver is a very special little boy.. He has a very intelligent look in his eyes, just more than you would expect to see in a baby and he is the cutest little guy ever to have me stop and watch his video when I have made such a point of NOT watching videos with kids in them.
      Thanks for the good cry as well as making me think about someone besides myself. Take care sweetie & give Oliver a big cuddle from me please.

    • @janyb8272
      @janyb8272  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      bellesmom2012 you are so sweet!!! I wish I could give you a big hug!!! About the long term, it doesnt shorten the life expectancy and thankfully for Oliver his brained wasn’t too damaged and he is now a completely functional toddler! But in many cases the damage is severe and not from the MSUD but from the damages to the brain it causes, they can pass away sooner. But as far as the diet goes, it remains pretty restricted even as an adult. But we have so many food options it is incredible what we can acquire in this amazing country!! Anyway many hugs to you and I hope you find more things to smile about. Kiss from me and Oliver

    I am 30 and have MSUD - you may know me from the MSUD Family Support Group facebook group, or the UK equivalent. My 28 year old sister - my only sibling - also has it and has just come out of hospital after battling norovirus. We are both untransplanted - I mean, our livers are healthy, and are working just fine with the tools they have. It makes no sense in our cases to rip out perfectly healthy organs when we ourselves are, for the most part, perfectly healthy on our low protein diets, and drinking our formulas as we should. We can travel, with a few extra arrangements and considerations. We can usually attend social functions, with a few extra arrangements and considerations. We went to mainstream school, with quite a lot of extra arrangements and considerations(!!!) I am also on the less outwardly obvious end of the autistic spectrum, with marked attention deficit, executive and anxiety issues that are still being investigated. I used to have a lot of behavioural issues involving social oddities, as well as anger and physical violence, but not so much now. Neither of us are learning impaired or physically disabled. We have the measurable enzyme activity of highly severe classic MSUD, but the clinical daily protein tolerance of variant MSUD, which helps as when we were born, where we lived, there was very limited access to formula, and no access at all to dietetic support or specialist low protein products. Somehow I survived 14 months undiagnosed (despite Mum's best efforts to get taken seriously by local medical staff), but began to show severe and unremitting symptoms from the age of 2 days old. By the time I was diagnosed I was hallucinating, convulsing, unable to sit, walk, talk, use my hands or learn at all. In the seven months following my diagnosis and correct treatment I went from that to crude walking. I was declared age appropriate at three years old, and above average at five years old. My parents went with the 75% chance of a second baby being ok, but by sister was also diagnosed with MSUD in utero via amniocentesis. This created the heartwrenching decision as to whether to continue the pregnancy - something that temporarily divided the family at the time, but which nobody has regretted or contested for a second since. She went straight onto the diet at birth. But she had to be tube fed for her first year as she refused the formula, and also had and generally still has more problems with staving off projectile vomiting, than I do. Her levels have historically been less stable. She's been in hospital more than me growing up as a result, though I have been in hospital more times as an adult, but not nearly as frequently as I was in growing up. No two cases are the same, even in the same family! Our lives have been crazy but remarkably normal.

    june barathy I had Peter in 55 I fed him for 11 months, then he had a special food, we lived near a beach so he got plenty of fresh air. I had a little girl and we moved, Peter wasn't keeping up in size with our friends two boys. A doctor I took him to found he had a Murmur in his heart,I often wonder why it wasn't picked up when he was born. We saw other doctors and it was arranged he would have a heart operation. His scar was huge, by three days after the operation he was playing in the ladies ward. We had to go back to the hospital for check for a few years.Anyone that saw him undressed was told by him that ;was where the shark bit him'
    He is now 62, 6ft tall and has 4 children. So Mums, be alert, if it doesn't seem right, it probably isn't.

    My 10 month old daughter also has msud. I feel your pain. Looking at her you couldn’t tell anything is wrong, she’s always just so happy. It’s just scary to know it’s always looming there ya know. Plus it sucks because the four genetic mutations that cause it are all normal so children’s have no idea what caused it so it’s even more rare :/ but she responds well to the diet and has been developing fine. Hope your son is doing well and good luck from my fiancé n me :)

    So sad to know your baby was so sick because the hospital that did the delivery dropped the ball with the followthrough with the elevated numbers on his testing at birth. The entire hospitalization was caused by incompetence. Yay for recovery!

      Jany B i hope you sued, thats the nurses job to follow up with the doctor, us nurses check the lab work and then report it to the doctor if there are any abnormalities, we assess pt and document and inform the doctor, thats the thing that upsets me about the health care now, people work for the money not because they truly care, when care you make sure you pay attention to your duties and the patients, but thank you lord your son is better and my god continue to bless him

    Thanks to things pioneered on me and my case of M.S.U.D, screening got better over the years and thankfully children are diagnosed much sooner than they used to be over 20 years ago. My case made it so other children born with M.S.U.D. might not suffer the ways I did.

      Natalie Staheli yeah! The amino acids you don’t break down, go into your bloodstream in the form of toxins and those toxins go to your brain and cause swelling which u can guess what brain swelling can do :)
