Camden Recycling

  • I miss seeing the Camden trucks done up in the red, yellow and green paint schemes they were going with for some 15+ years... consider this video a flashback to what was. I was lucky to locate yellow truck 81 on the run in Mount Annan after making a spontaneous visit one Friday morning in 2011. I didn’t have any expectation of finding a mid 2000s MkIV/ACCO throwing recycle bins, so this was quite a surprise encounter! This side loader’s days were numbered at this point but, as not long into the future 81 became a new 35m MJ/Volvo recycling truck. This was the second oldest vehicle I captured from Camden’s in-house fleet during my multiple visits, with the oldest being the generic scheme MkIV I found on green waste collections in 2008. Always cool to see those 1990s Brickwoods getting tipped, just a bugger they weren’t recorded when they were still divided bins - I guess this truck 81 was purchased when things went comingled in Camden. Lastly, watching these older productions of mine, I can’t help but self-criticise over my poor use of the zoom function, I really could’ve zoned in on the truck and action a bit better at times! Anyway I hope what’s shown is enjoyed...

I wish councils/contractors would go back to having the trucks in red,yellow,green/blue colour, made my childhood seeing trucks like that

I could comment the same things you’ve heard a thousand times from everyone about how it’s a mad truck, reminds me of the old MKIVs I watched as a kid and the like but there’s no need for that I’ll keep it sort and sweet.
I understand your OCD about the camera work particularly in the 1st and 3rd clip, Do you know how many Bio Diesel trucks Camden ran and if any other councils / company’s trialed or ran bio diesel trucks other then the Acco / Garpac over at Waverly. Be keen to research a few reports over the feasibility and practicality of running them.
    Spontaneous Visit.

There definitely one red truck which had all over bio diesel on the sides and cab (it also had the red signage mixed in)

Not even going to give me a "GreAT Vidyo Mitcch!!!" huh? Harsh mate, clearly you don't appreciate this 😥 *Zooms out when he's meant to stay zoomed in 🧐 I believe Camden ran the entire waste fleet as biodiesel, I think the whole in-house operation in general changed over to it a while back, not sure if they have since switched back to regular diesel though. I'm certain I've read about other Aussie locations where biodiesel was at least trialled, but I've been trying to think up even one council name for almost two weeks and my mind is just blank 😮‍💨 Sorry to bust your balls, but that Waverley truck you're thinking of was actually CNG powered 😝 Your last two words will remain as an understanding between us, unless someone else on here is that observant.....

before even opening the description I knew I recognised this area straight away, i could name each and ever street in all of those shots! I can’t fathom enough how this video sounds and almost looks exactly like your campbelltown recycling video of S31. i noticed you mentioned how nobody recorded the butterfly lids being tipped, but did you ever see any while you had been there on any of your trips? might be a bit of a hard one to answer to remember 13 years ago, but do you remember which units were doing the waste and organics around there? now the current recycler is 81, organics being 72 and waste being 41
i didn’t really see any issue with your camera work to be honest, still turned out to be a great video, a nice sustained 5 minute video that feels longer than it actually is!

I had fun tracing my steps back all those years ago to try and pinpoint exactly which streets I went through... I expected some locals would have surely videoed in these very streets in recent times! I never recall seeing any bins with the butterfly lids on any of my visits, but if I did, I definitely would've snapped a photo - it seems the lid changeovers around there were pretty thorough. However, a few years back I stumbled across a Nylex 240L in the rural areas with a single piece lid coloured half yellow and half blue, was properly branded with Camden Council too, this was a lucky discovery! No idea what the garbage and greens trucks were where I caught this 81, this was the same morning I got 73 on greens in Currans Hill, but don't remember any other trucks except for these two I videoed... had somewhere to be that morning, so couldn't hang around to see it all. You're too kind, thank you for your feedback!
