    One of my favourite stories that Adam told on his Tested channel was about the giant waterslide. After the episode was done shooting, the crew tasked with disassembling it were explicitly told for insurance reasons they were not allowed to go down the slide like they did on the show. The crew all ignored the warning and they all went down the slide, and thankfully nobody was injured.

    the "only right turns" kinda checks out with the hyper miling. Driving a consistent speed is better than stopping and accelerating over and over.

    • @Wolf-ln1ml
      @Wolf-ln1ml 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That requires that you _can_ maintain that speed more or less at right turns... I'd certainly love to see the statistics of UPS here in Germany, whether it's actually worth it here as well, or whether they only go with that method in some cases (maybe where there is medium traffic) and not others (where there is either light traffic that rarely hinders left turns, or heavy city traffic that hinders right turns just as much)...
      But especially with stop-start-automatics, I'd wager that it's not worth it for fuel use reasons anymore.

      @@AjHxze-lx4jn see this is the problem with people like you. You didnt understand my point, you took offense based on something stupid, and then proceeded to condescend. Now instead of actually talking about a clarification or the subject of my comment im forced to respond to your condescension with a customary rude and garish innuendo about being 12 inches deep in your whale of a mum. And how your daddy was a no no good hack who was cucked 7 days a week.
      But i have no desire to indulge in such behaviour so ill give you a clarification anyway. When i said modern internet, i was specifically talking about being able to image search and find the source video, being able to dm the op and get actual details of it. I was also referring to the fact that thanks to better seo you can find answers to extremely specific and obscure questions on googles homepage which really wasnt the case until 2012 to 13 ish. You would often have to delve deep into forums on your own and hope you can find a specific thread. Metatagging was also much worse back then. Information was freely available and abundant but there was much more clutter and indexing was worse the general barrier for entry towards digital competency has lowered a lot allowing non rech savvy but knowledgeable experts to provide info and expertise freely... ofc the tradeoff is that the dependency on these tools makes censorship much easier. The other biggest factor is that thanks to stricter copyright standards people dont steal videos as much, so the chain of authentication is much more solid.

    With the delivery truck one (although I'd hardly call a slightly large van a "truck") that only works in America where you can turn right even if the light is red. Here in the UK, you ain't going anywhere till the light changes, so you won't save time.
    With the waterslide, apart from everything else, there's no way a little pool like that will be holding enough water to protect you from the impact. It would be a foot deep at best...

    • @simontay4851

      Since we drive on the left in the UK, i think that you should be allowed to turn left at a red light if you can see that it is safe to do so. Where i live there is one particular cross roads where im often waiting to turn left for over 2 minutes and there are no other cars from the other direction turning right. Its stupid and really frustrating.

      From the footage it actually looks like the water comes up to just below his hips. So the pool isn't quite as small as it looks like at first glance. There are stunt men/acrobats who specialise in safely falling into very small shallow pools of water. I feel like it could totally be possible to do this without a major injury if you know what you're doing.

      @@simontay4851 If cars weren't allowed to turn right on red you wouldn't have that problem. Being allowed to turn red on red is one of the major reasons the US has a death toll on roads significantly higher than other countries. It also slows down traffic by making everyone take longer to check. It might speed up the individual person but it slows down the system.

  • @gbulmer

    Grant's arithmetic at 13:15 is incorrect. He says the difference in fuel consumption between the right turn test (2.34lb) and left turn test (2.26lb) is less than 1% (he actually says 4 × ⅒th of 1%). However 2.34lb - 2.26lb = 0.08lb. 1% of 2.34 = 0.0234,
    so 0.08 / 0.0234 = *_3.4%_* Not huge, but *_much_* more significant benefit for left turns than Grant's script claimed.

    if you want maximum speed and distance going down a slide? here is what you do: 1. cross you legs 2. press the bottom heel down in to the slide 3. press both sholder blades down in to the slide 4. lift you ass up in the air. 5. lose the suit and put on a speedo or a svimming shorths,,, get as little contact with the slide as possible.. it makes a HUGE difference

    Not to criticize Adam, but as a person that grew up at the water parks. He is not sliding down correctly.
    If you want maximum speed on a water slide cross Your legs and ride on your heel and the shoulder blades on your back.
    Not that the myth was ever possible but he definitely would have had at least an extra twenty feet

    • @Wolf-ln1ml
      @Wolf-ln1ml 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      But in normal water parks, the slides are designed to be far safer. For one, the "borders" are higher so that it should be impossible to slide over the side, and you won't hit the water particularly hard at the end - which means you _can_ come off the slide in pretty much any position without hurting yourself. Neither of those are the case here, they need to maintain a fairly central position overall on the slide, and not rotate at all while they're on the slide (to avoid turning sideways of even backwards before they hit the water).

    They should've used a delivery truck from the beginning, as the powertrains are different due to the trucks having to de deal with practical, variable amounts of weight.

    Watching that viral video in 2024 and it’s painfully obvious it was faked. However I can imaging during the original air date it wasn’t as obvious. Love that effect. People had it with the original Star Wars too.

    Say what you will for not doing a legs-together run, what kinda bugs me is that they never tested whether hitting a kiddie pool like that would actually save you or if you'd just go straight through the ~3ft of water and splatter.

    I'd be nervous of hitting the kitty pool ropes! Unlikely to be deadly, but could hurt depending on what body parts get entangled.
    Also the kitty pool used on dry land is only 1ft deep at most! Even if a person could land in the pool, the bottoming out would be deadly.

    spread legs = more surface area = more resistance down the slide. so whilst it was great to see, they didn't actually slide correctly. need to look like a missile. perfectly straight for the least resistance

    • @baumyl3vi232
      @baumyl3vi232 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Not only was the speed of the recording off, but I also feel like the accuracy is impossible, not to mention sliding down with that amount of speed would have broken all of his bones even if he hit the pool. Especially since it looks like the guy hits the pool right at the back edge, which would give him no space to stop the momentum with (look at any video with big commercial waterpark waterslides, some of them have REALLY long pools at their exits to slow people down). Needless to say he would not be getting out of that pool as easy afterwards if that actually happend hahaha!

  • @flatterkatz
    @flatterkatz 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    all that work to build the ramp and trying for speed and no one told Adam to maybe not brake with his legs the whole time? he pizza'd when he should have french fried. If you're worried about your bum aching, send down a dummy instead.

    Am i the only one that thinks trying to test traffic is just useless? Traffic isnt consistent from hour to hour, let alone day to day. They could fluctuate violently between the 2. You're only factoring in a stable wait time in each direction. Waiting for a reversing car could be common on a specific day a busy coffee shop could alter mornings, theres way too many things to factor in for a general rule! Besides their data might reflect their own experiences based on specific days or time of day!
    I've had logistics companies try to do the same thing, all though they dont factor in shop routines. Some places only accept deliveries at certain times, and you need to factor in business hours!
    Stupid study!!!
