What a great find! I have a blue snorkel like the one you just showed. It belonged to my mother. I remember watching her fill it back in the 50s. My father gave it to her and eventually she gave it to me, then my niece (also a fountain pen lover) gave me some money to have it refurbished. So it is now three times a gift.
The black portion of the cap is actually painted on. Take care with this pen as the black does wear off. It is supposed to be there. The black paint was used to hide the extremely ugly glue that holds the outer cap onto the inner cap.

As I have learned how to do some repairs and refurbishing, I have gotten more confident in buying from eBay. Sometimes it is junk or beyond my level, but then again, I have bought pens that way from dealers, too. I was actually hoping to be able to play with this Waterman, though it was more involved than I thought it would be. But it is writing well now (see my video on ink sac replacement and watch your mailbox soon). The worst problem I had lately was on Etsy. I bought a high end pen from a scammer. Just after the purchase was, the seller closed their shop on Etsy, never shipped the pen (which probably never existed to begin with), and I had to file a claim with PayPal. I am still waiting for resolution on that.
If it helps, some amazing vintage pens have come my way thanks to eBay. A few needed slight overhaul but many were good to go. My four Snorkels and two Touchdowns were all eBay-sourced, and I learned how to refurbish those pens pretty cheaply via two of those using sacs, etc. again found on eBay. Other nice vintage pens came from a passing mention of the hobby to some friend or family member, adding that I'm always looking to add to my collection if they know of any candidates. Someone will recall they have a possibly broken or seized old pen gathering dust in a drawer somewhere that belonged to a parent or grandparent, and be pleased to see it polished up and back in action.
Don’t pull back on the touchdown tube while the Snorkel tube is in the ink. You can easily end up with ink where it’s not supposed to be when you do that.

Demonstrator means that you can see the inside of the pen, thus demonstrating how it looks or operates. Demonstrators can come in translucent colored varieties as well, but I typically like clear. Yes, I did get your latest email. I will be working on that shortly.

Thats right only if you submerged all nib into ink or you have a lot of ink collected on the feed.
