    - ok, i added the songwriters to the video, just turn on the ENGLISH subtitles! ♡
    - about the "MONSTA X song not being a KPOP song" note i put in the video:
that text is HORRIBLY worded. what i wanted to express is that i'm making a compilation of songs in korean (originally the title of this video was "korean songs with...") but i wanted to add those mx songs too bc 1. it's kpop even if the songs are in english and 2. i won't do a compilation of english songs bc that's not what the channel is about and the videos would last 3 weeks. my english was broken that day.
    - also, this video is about lyrics. it doesn't matter the context of the music video, if the artist explained later "oh, yea, the songs speaks about this situation". i just found songs with lyrics that looked weird, a bit problematic and even funny and made this compilation. don't take it that deep, no one is telling you to stop listening to any of these songs/artists or that people need to cancel them. just by reading the description you'll know is not that serious!

Hey do you wanna hear some suggestions? I suggest you change the title as "kpop songs with lyrics that sounds weird/problematic/funny for me" or something like that, because it seems like even though you already clarified it some people just do not understand. This is just my personal suggestion tho, it's up to you to take it or not.

Nope. Him is a adult stuff. He’s Rated R. That’s fine. But only kids complain about him and call him “sexualizing woman” when he’s just acting his age and only making parody of the Western’s interest. And let’s not forget the women agree to do it so that’s not problematic or toxic.

Yo casuals if you do not understand 한군 stfu. If you do not understand the korean culture stfu. Jyp made this song to call out korean's toxic beauty standards and western music's trash ideas about a woman. If you wouldn't notice jyp artists are the most natural. They may not be the best artists or whatever but they are the most natural. Guess what the actual meaning of the song is? @@leonardodavinci4259 to be fairrr, and take what i'll say with a pinch of salt;. If it were boys who were singing it it could be seen by the general public as more problematic for the simple fact that socially, boys are seen as beings that can cause more harm to girls if they don't understand that no is no. And from my perspective, it's usually girls that have to deal with guys insisting upon them because they don't get what consent is. So if a boy group came up with a concept similar to yes or yes, people would be more triggered because girls in real life actually struggle with boys that keep on insisting on them after they say no, while it can happen to boys, it's more common for girls to be harassed that way. But Yes or Yes is not a cute concept song, it's a creepy one. So you are supposed to be creeped out by the lyrics because it's part of the whole glowing eyes situation they have in the music video. It's not normalizing lack of consent, it has an awareness that the lyrics are creepy because the concept IS creepy.

I feel like not all of these songs are actually problematic. Like, obviously the lyrics in themselves are toxic, but a lot of these are just telling a story. Stalker or Psycho or Monster are (too me obviously) not meant literally but are telling a piece of fiction. Like movies about killers or whatever are not meant to encourage you to kill. But that also does not apply to all of these tho.
Also I miss History a lot, Psycho remains a whole ass bop.

Love & Hate too. Reading the lyrics put in this video, I believe the relationship between the couple has drifted and they are slowly hating each other. A story about a falling relationship, basically but the title says toxic as well so I think they can be included but it's not creepy like majority of the other songs

      @foxyyyyexo 3 ปีที่แล้ว +67

@Ffff 5edg how can a relationship between an UNNATURAL CREATURE and a human be ridiculous and called as problematic ? It's a work of fiction and impossible to happen 🙃 others have already said that it's not a matter of man and woman, but a literal werewolf and a HUMAN 😩 I know that without context the lyrics are super weird but there is a whole storyline to it going on for YEARS now. EXO play a role of aliens from Exoplanet, of course there is gonna be a theme talking about the encounters with human race, given that there are also other parallels and dimensions to the EXO universe, so they can be wolves, football players or gamers. It's actually REALLY interesting :) So naturally lyrics of Monster are a part of this storyline as well

    • @foxyyyyexo
      @foxyyyyexo 3 ปีที่แล้ว +29

@Anna Schiltz Their whole concept is them being ALIENS, I don't think werewolves are that bad 😆 There's MUCH more to this concept and I don't know how much familiar you are with it. There's just too much to explain 😅
And that's exactly what makes this song even more real, they are FIGHTING with their instincts. If you look at the lyrics I think that love isn't even the main theme. And the order of what's happening in the song is a bit different, they see the human as a prey first but then gain feelings. It's probably the first time they're this close to a human so there's an internal conflict of feelings and instincts that they are trying to fight with. I'm not saying you have to like it or sth but this song is actually super accurate if you want to describe what a creature would feel falling for a human for the first time. That's why I also don't know how you can find a song that refers to a fairytale problematic (Korean title is "The wolf and the beauty"). That's how you can actually shift attention from the songs and lyrics that ARE problematic and need to be discussed to just mocking lyrics you don't find nice for the sake of good laugh. Unconsciously we can do more harm than we think.
About fairytales, their whole album XOXO that features Wolf refers to different fairytales, they are just good at making those references subtle.
Like I said there's so much to this concept that if you're not looking deep into it many things won't make sense to you. It's already planned years ahead and it connects all of their MV's, VCR's, lyrics, release dates etc. I'm not gonna explain more because I'll just end up writing a whole paper💀

Usually younger girls always told by their older sister or mother that boys like to played with girl's feeling or whatever so they afraid their feelings would getting played if she just gave her heart easily. And i think society often said that the ones who likes to played with girl's feelings is a BOY or the one who's not mature enough. For example, Agust D “what do you think?” (Although controversial) I think it’s brings a great perspective that artist should not be solely held hostage to topics such as positive ones like self love or happiness, sometimes we need to be reminded of these things in order to grow. Life is not full of bubbles and honestly I feel like the sensation of being uncomfortable just kinda sticks with me more than a happy song. It’s not negative, I’m just more reminded of the message bc of the way it was conveyed?. At the end of the day, it’s not that deep

@Ffff 5edg you're probably right, changing the lyrics would've been one way to solve the problem. But then again, everybody knows that bts aren't the type of people to own up to their mistakes in a shallow and mediocre way. If they changed the lyrics but still performed the song it still would be controversial, knowing what the song originally meant. They apologized, went to universities and talked with professors about misogyny, women empowerment, etc. Later in their career they even made a song that's centered on women empowerment. I obviously can't speak for them but i look at it this way; BTS has never performed War of Hormone again, never talked about it, never promoted it, and they openly admitted that they were in the wrong, apologized for it and owed up to their responsibilities. Think of their whole career as art and growth, those mistakes were a part of them, changing them would oppose the beauty of the process. They acknowledged the mistakes they made and they didn't change anything about the past, knowing that it was a part of the art and growth that they are having. Again, at the end of the day, what's important is that they learned from it, and are currently one of the most unproblematic artists, not only in Korea but also all over the world.

All I want to say is that lyrics can be an expression of art and context is definitely important. Monster, Psycho and Sweet Lies are songs that portray a message and kpop doesn't have to be all happy and rainbows. Kpop idols are allowed to sing about toxic messages like toxic relationships or toxic beauty standards. Sweet Lies are lyrics through the eyes of a cheater, which is still an expression of art and I honestly don't see anything wrong with it. The Exo members are not romanticizing their lyrics, but actually calling them out. Like I said: context.

A lot of these I feel- to me, that they aren't problematic, because the core of songwriting/singing/rapping is telling a story. And it's not love stories all the time, some of these songs show the bad stuff that happens in realtionships.
But again, songs like war of the hormone, and JYP's whos your mama is uterrly dissappointing because they basically tell woman that they aren't enough. And and that one twice lyric about becoming a real man, that is toxic masculity, which is dissappointing since a lot of onces are male.

I saw one day a very interesting tweet about War of Hormone, i don't remember all of it but it said that the most important thing to know about this song is the context and the slice of life it tries to convey : i do agree that the lyrics alone are really problematic, and when i first saw it i was trully surprised because i believe BTS aren't this kind of artists. But the tweet was explaining that this song represents the mindset of a young teenage boy wondering about dating, sex, and more. That is why those lyrics are so harsh in a way, because it is exagerated, it's almost a parody (as a lot of BTS songs) of a certain type of songs and attitude. For instance, out of all the BTS members in the video, the girl chooses Taehyung/V at the very end (when she gives him a hug) and he is precisely the one that was the less insisting and rude toward her throughout the whole MV.
Now, i do know that Namjoon himself has apologized for this song's lyrics and have throught about it a lot (doing research, going to see the right people to know how insulting some of this content could have been to women for instance...), but i believe the context (and meaning) was important to remind.
Anyway i know that some people might still be offended by those lyrics and i am not minimizing at all their feelings, but i thought it would be interesting to share what I remembered from that tweet :)

Not trying to sound biased but the Monsta X song can actually be quite meaningful for people who have been through or are in toxic relationships. And trust me it's not that easy to just leave a relationship, especially if you are still in love. Even if a person is crappy you could be crazily in love with them, love really has no reason, it just happens. And you really need support to get out of it. Although it is technically cheating on your toxic partner, it's still important and healing for yourself, and to finally move out of the toxic relationship.

I mean, they can be taken wrong. It’s not as if what they’re singing about is objectively bad, but the framing, tone, and context. I’ll use cheer up for example, it’s for the most part a harmless song about a flimsy romance.
But certain parts paint a picture of a relationship that lacks severe communication (the whole “I won’t tell you what I feel or reply, to keep you hanging on a thread”), and also kind of perpetuates toxic masculinity (that one part where they’re basically saying “man up and deal with it, even if you’re confused and hurt, you shouldn’t feel anything or care at all”.)
Like you can still like the song, and I’m sure most can tell this isn’t exactly a healthy relationship you should model yours after, but you should be mindful of the message.
Most of the songs here are like this, objectively aren’t bad, you just shouldn’t internalize anything they say, or take them seriously. There’s nothing wrong with enjoying them though

IGAB - Not really, kind of I guess
No more perfume - Yes. The boys got a lot of backlash for this one.
One More Chance - Yes. This is so sad. They won't approve of sensual lyrics but don't care if the lyrics can trigger people with ED. That's the Kpop industry for you.
Got my number - Yes. Giving me No More Perfume vibes.
    Shadow - Yup.
    Bae Bae - Kind of.
Anything by JAY why PEE - Yes. Creep.
    Nice Body - So problematic.
Love and Hate - Not really. They are just presenting a perspective.
Only Look At me - Gross lyrics.
    Cheer Up - No, I don't think so. They're presenting a dilemma.
    Monster - Again, not really.
Please don't - yup. Manipulation and controlling behavior ain't cute.
My friend's boyfriend - yes. WTF were they thinking?
    Monster - Not really
Yes Or Yes - Yes. Consent is important. Even if you are a member of Twice.
War Of Hormone - yup. feminism leaving my body when this song comes on. Jokes aside, the lyrics are cringe. Yikes.
Sweet Lies - Our Kpop idols love to romanticize cheating. The beat is superior tho.
Psycho - This song is a BOP. The lyrics? A little cringe.
Stalker - This is a concept. Not a good one.
Baby Goodnight - And we are back to square one with cheating.
Inconvenient truth - EWW. Why do some boys want to be our parents so bad? It's her body the fu...
Misbehave - Most Kpop songs with lyrics describing toxic relationships just want to show the ugly side of love. They aren't promoting toxic relationships. So, I don't think they are that problematic.
Wolf - Nah, it is a concept. Again, not be best but yeah... The lyrics would have created a huge issue if Exo release wolf now. They are cringe for sure.

I don’t agree with Cheer Up, Monster by EXO, Monster by Henry, and Stalker. Monster by EXO is literally talking ABOUT toxic relationships and abuse and manipulation. Cheer Up is just a girl falling in love for the first time and having a dilemma because she doesn’t want to give her heart away and then be thrown away by the guy because he’s a jerk and only sees her as an object and moved too fast, Monster by Henry isn’t problematic because it could just be referencing how he broke her heart and regrets it (I doubt it was physical abuse) and Stalker is about sasaeng fans. But don’t get me started on No More Perfume-
PS: the English version of Henry’s Monster isn’t problematic at all either. Actually it seems like the GIRL is toxic. “But every time you kiss me and Tell me pretty lies about your history I’m so tired of the back and forth”
In the KOREAN version (shown here), Literally the line JUST BEFORE the lyrics shown in its video was: “I knew too late, only when you were hurting” makes me think it was something like
neglecting her because he was too busy or smth.
And the Chinese version I still don’t think was
    problematic.
