    I broke the crown guard off my Vintage khaki. Sent it to Hamilton and they got back to me saying they Didn’t have parts for my watch and offered me a big discount on a new watch. I explained it was a gift from a good friend and very sentimental. I eventually got directed to the VP who told me he would personally look into having parts made specifically for my watch. New crystal, Mid case, crown and crow guard for like 130$

    Awesome show as always MWC 👏👏👏👏
    This is a great looking watch but the dimensions mean it’s only really one for the big wristed. The Daytona influence doesn’t bother me and I could almost live with the date window but what kills it for me is that date pusher at 10 o’clock. Surely you’re better off just leaving the date window out entirely at that point? It’s not like there would be a ghost position on the crown. I know lots of people really like having the date on a watch but this takes shoehorning to a whole new level 😂
    It seems like all budget Swiss mechanical chronographs made today suffer from being just a bit too big! I keep looking at Sellita SW500 loaded watches which is based on a Valjoux 7750 and there’s just no getting around the beefed up size. Really thick, broad diameter and long lug to lug. It makes the bespoke movements in the Daytona and high end chronograph movements in something like a Patek Philippe all the more impressive as they can cram all of that into such a relatively compact case.

    • @THEMADWATCHCOLLECTOR
      @THEMADWATCHCOLLECTOR  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Exactly Gareth!! Take it out and no one will be none the wiser there is a date complication inside!!! ;) it’s a tubby watch for sure, well made but unwearable !!

  • @ge48421
    @ge48421 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Thanks for the review, detailed and to the point as always.
    I'm wearing the Longines Bigeye on a short Collareb Venezia strap that's 3.4mm thick, which makes the watch look/wear a little smaller because the thick strap extends more past the wrist. I suspect that this Hamilton watch would look better on a small wrist when paired with a strap like that, the bracelet does not do this watch any favors. The Bigeye has a movement that's an upgraded version of the Valjoux 7753 as well, but manages to be a bit smaller and thinner, and has shorter lugs and a domed crystal, which all helps.
    For me the Intramatic was not an option, I actually use the chronograph complication and I wanted a 12 hour totalizer to time longer events.

    Big bulky watch with the bracelet, but I recently bougt the blue version with the leather strap and it wears wonderfully on my medium size wrist. The blue one also doesn't look that much like the Daytona (if that would even bother you)

    Great vid.... proportions on this are all oved the shop imo. The Pagani Daytona Homage at under 70 quid is hugely better looking and with a seiko moduled movement. THE ETA 7753 is a great engine, but if you're gonna charge way over the odds, at least pretty it up a bit for the back window. Its a no from me.

    At a guess it looks like a Hamilton option of the Tissot PRX Chrono from the same group, just different style but keeps the date. Any watch with a Valjoux 775X base movement will be a tad chunky and heavy and that includes the Omega 3330 movements that added the co-axial escapement and column wheel. I'm going to have to swap wrists for mine soon as my knuckles have started to drag on the pavement on that arm, lot's of clearance on the other arm.

  • @carlodelavera9735
    @carlodelavera9735 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I'd say it shares more similarities with the Seiko chrono than the Daytona. the tachymeter and the date at 4:30. and to be fair all chronos look the same, there's limited options on to where to put the sub-dials. The watch is absolutely massive tho, no argument there

    • @THEMADWATCHCOLLECTOR
      @THEMADWATCHCOLLECTOR  ปีที่แล้ว

      Carlo!! Tell me 5 other current chronographs done by the Swiss that has a black dial with silver subdials? Current models. If the filled the subdials all silver it would change the look completely but they haven’t . This is a marketing design choice surely!

    • @carlodelavera9735
      @carlodelavera9735 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@THEMADWATCHCOLLECTOR I mean idk why they have to be Swizz. I brought up the Seiko due to the similarities that I stated before. Because it's what it reminded me of and not really a Daytona other than the sundials which is not new to Hamilton as they have used the silver outer sub dial edges in previous Jazzmaster models. Besides getting a quality watch that resembles a Daytona for $2k is not a bad deal. the size might scare some away

    I got a cheap Playboy Chronograph once that looked pretty much the same in black and silver, there's plenty of Chronographs out there that are looking pretty similiar.

If you're looking for an automatic watch for under £1k i think Hamilton beat Tissot all ends up which is why i have a Hamilton Venturer. What's with Hamilton making such big chronographs? When I was looking for my first Swiss watch, I was hooked on the Hamilton Jazzmaster Lord Hamilton. I didn't even think of size when I saw it, but after watching plenty of other watch reviews, I went to check out the size of the Lord Hamilton: 46mm. And with a Valjoux 7750 inside, it's not thin either at 15.25mm. Ended up with a Longines Grande Vitesse. Still thick with a 7750, but at least the case size and shape makes it wearable.

    Question: Would you wear a Holy Trinity Grand Complication that has the little "Nubby" thing(s)? Most high horology pieces have those "Nubby" things (corrector button) to cut down on having 7 or 8 buttons sticking out in all manner of ways. I'd rather have a date corrector as it is here than another push button sticking out. They are also done to create less complication to change things as it would just continue to grow the movement in thickness. If you look more into the micromechanics of the movement operating and production process, you will have a better understanding why these are used. Always entertaining though, have a great one.

      @@LawrenceMacMacster I just don't like a thick automatic that is over 15mm. Beautiful watch however. I do have a Hamilton Intra-Matic Chrono at 13mm which is one of my most wearing watch and I think I paid 1200.00 for it, this one at 2500.00USD hmm can't justify it. Plus I think the Intra-Matic is an overall better looking watch. At least for me it is..

    Nice watch and I know I'm not comparing apples to apples but I'd go for the Seikotona over this one any day of the week. It's not a mechanical chronograph but much better dimensions, very similar design (including ugly date window) and a fraction of the price.

    Get the intramatic Chronograph which you can get for $200 cheaper after discount. It is much more nicer to wear and looks more premium with beautiful details on the dial. Even on my 19cm wrist, this 42mm model didn't feel good. Too top heavy. The AR is poor too, under the shoplights it was almost unreadable. The Tissot PRX chronograph wears much nicer on medium size wrists than this model.

    The date window is a complete deal breaker - why in heaven’s name put a date there - otherwise it looks good. Still prefer the Speedy, though 🚀👍

    Comically huge, what a shame. The Khaki's are much more attractive.

    I understood that the Daytona is not really an inhouse movement developed by Rolex... Rolex made the first watch with a date window, so all watches with date window are hommages to Rolex? They also made the wristwatch popular in a time that real gentelemen had a pocket watch...

    Great video as always, sir. All tricompax chronographs can on some level be accused of being Daytona or Speedmaster homages- but this is too much, imo. Like an aliexpress knockoff on steroids- huuuge! I love Hamilton, but they messed up this one. I’ll stick with my Intramatic hand wind for my high end hammy chronograph. Cheers!

    Yes they did and, as a Hamilton collector, I HATE this piece.
    Edit - I've had several 7753 watches and I don't mind the date pusher, it's actually kind of convient. Like you, I'd rather have no date.
