She did not mention, which I just discovered, that it will also not work if any tracks are record enabled (at least on my system/version). Loop recording is a separate function, but in my case I just wanted to practice a section of a song on drums between takes and I have to toggle off all eight tracks to get a functioning playback loop. A bit annoying.
hrm, that sounds like it's not quite right. Is it looping back when you highlight a section and hit play, but it's just a matter of what you're hearing that's the problem? Because if that's the case, that sounds like loop playback is working fine, you have a preferences setting that might be doing that. Do you mean that you can't hear yourself playing into the mic when you have a record enabled track and hit play with loop playback on? Or do you mean that you can't hear audio that's already recorded onto the track when you hit play with loop playback on?
@@CatoNoise Yes you're right. I tried it again today and it is now working fine. I'm sure it wasn't working when I made this comment because I spent quite a bit of time trouble shooting and frustrated. PT may have just been buggy that day, like some days when it decides it can't initialize my interface. Oh well.
mitch you were right. if a track is record enabled the playback will pause at the end of the highlighted section. in a session right now you are a life saver !!
Best thing about the video was that, after going through the ways it was supposed to work, you addressed the solution to the question of "why doesn't it work. "
Loop playback suddenly isn't working for me and none of these things you mentioned is the issue. It's actually because I had a track enabled to record. This stops loop playback from working.
That shouldn't be causing that. We often use loop playback to do loop recording....so that's very odd. Were you playing back the audio instead of hitting record maybe?
None of these tips worked for me, but I found out that if "Insertion follows playback" is active (On the top left), it removes the visual highlights and doesn't playback. Thanks for the help anyway.
Quick question, If you wanted to loop a long selection but not start the playback from the start of the clip but near the end of the clip to see if the loop is clean how would you go about doing that? For example, lets say your clip is 20 bars long and you want to start from bar 18 to have it loop back to bar 1 so you don't have to listen to the full 20 bars every time. I hope that makes sense. Good videos BTW.
None of these solutions worked for me my Pro Tools still will not loop my highlighted part. No Record Enable or Quick Punch. I highlighted the whole middle of the song and still started at the beginning or where ever the cursor was. So frustrating going to toss my whole studio out the window.
@@CatoNoise yeah im the same way but with ableton hah. I just got so used to abletons work flow that it makes it alot harder to use protools. Even the basics like zooming in and out screw me over lol. The video helped though, so thank you for that

@@1secretdutch Yeah it seems like it is a glitch, because it doesn't always happen. But it's nice to confirm I wasn't crazy and that it does happen.

thanks! In my case, it was Quick Punch enabled and a track record enabled... don't forget that! At least in 2024

How to piss me off: make me use protools or logic pro
Lol, yet here you are! 😆 I know the feeling though, I'm awful with anything that's not pro tools!
