Lauttasaari is an island and district in Helsinki, Finland. It’s located about 3 kilometers west of the city center. Known for its beautiful natural shores, Lauttasaari features large, smooth rocks, extensive shallows, rocky islets, meadows, and lush alder forests.
The name “Lauttasaari” means “ferry island,” reflecting its history of ferry traffic before it was connected to the mainland by bridges and the Helsinki metro. Today, it’s a primarily residential area with various services, including marinas and canoe clubs.
Salmisaari is a small area in Helsinki, Finland, located in the Ruoholahti quarter of the Länsisatama neighborhood. Historically, it was an island west of the Helsinginniemi peninsula, but it was connected to the mainland through land reclamation.
Salmisaari is known for its industrial past, including the Salmisaari power plant, which has been operational since 1953. The area has undergone significant redevelopment and now features modern office buildings, business premises, and recreational facilities. Notable tenants include companies like Varma, Ahlstrom, and Technopolis.
