Hey there! I recently started using ODTKRA so I don't have to use LEGO bricks to cover my CV1's HMD. So if you hear a USB disconnect sound and your CV1 controllers can't move, here you go: github.com/DeltaNeverUsed/ODTKRA/releases
You seem like a natural when it comes to making context and your energy is great too! It also seems like your very comfortable talking on camera which is a nice skill to have. The quality of your videos seem to keep getting better with each new video as well. I hope you continue to make content and I wish you nothing but the best of luck if you do!
oh my god a verified creator! Thanks. It took a while for me to get used to talking in front of the camera (if you can tell from my older ones lol) I'm also trying to make each video I upload better than the last so spread the word :D
This with 3 trackers is heavenly. The best part is that you don't need to buy straps since the feet fit the shoe and the hip tracker hooks to your pants very easily and doesn't move. It's so much better than what I could have imagined! I very strongly recommend this to anyone that already has a CV1, it's literally a sub 30 dollar upgrade to have 3 trackers on par with Vives.
The two big annoyances are that since you're Jerry rigging everything together, there's no comfortable straps for the controllers. You might want your hip tracker in a stable position that isn't possible by just hooking the controller to your pants. Size is also annoying, since they stick out a lot. But the main thing that makes me hesitate to recommend this to anyone is the fact that they disconnect every now and then. You don't have a way of preventing this. Not with blocking the sensor, not with odtkra. You WILL lose tracking eventually and there's no easy way to regain it quickly. Sometimes it comes back within seconds when odtkra is working correctly but sometimes it doesn't work at all. This happens ALL the time, multiple times per play session. This is a great stopgap solution that'll allow you to have all the benefits of high quality 6dof tracked FBT while you save up for real trackers and basestations. Do not buy a rift for this under any circumstances.
@@moseses3414 no, I'm still using it waiting for my slimes that I ordered in november lol. Once you have FBT there's no going back, even if the setup isn't good.
Personally, I find that I get more value from a CV1 over Vive trackers. I still use my CV1 for more competitive games. Used CV1s with controllers and sensors can go for around $200 too
Quick note for those that don't have a 3rd tracker, you *can* use the headset itself as a hip tracker, it's not too uncomfortable and it does the job really well, and it's not that hard to stick to your chest, you can just use 2 belts, tinker around with it and find what works for you, it's giving me complete freedom in VR and I love it to bits, though I think I'd much prefer if I could get a 3rd cv1 controller to be honest.
It works for me, and it's what I use, so yeah! It very much does so! Only issue is that you have a literal headset on your stomach *and* an extra wire to deal with, otherwise it's super good and very accurate as well! You just need to find the right way to strap it to your stomach for it to be comfortable, but if you CAN get a third controller instead, do that, it's what I want but can't get due to them not selling in my country@@VirtualVertex

Is it worth it if I avarage around 25 fps in a private session on my quest 2? The CV1 also has to run at the same time as SteamVR so the Oculus Dashboard also needs to run too. That would most likely give you worse performance than you already have in the first place. I would suggest to consider either getting a laptop with better specs or thermals or just build or buy a desktop PC first. It also depends on how much you can stomach these low framerates too
@@ReeksofChees3 (on my alt, mb) thanks for ur quick response, ur the friggin best So I found out without kinect fbt i get 36 fps avarage, and 24 with kinect fbt, If I completely optimize my rift cv1 as to where it would be getting barely any pixels, should it work? The real maximum is 3 controllers (In which one is assigned as a VR Object). If you really want 4 points, you'd have to use the HMD as a hip tracker and the spare controller as a chest tracker (Or the other way around, whatever works best for you.) Three point tracking by using three controllers is generally fine though.
Love your energy man! Gonna pick up an old CV1 just to try this, questions tho: - If I were to get a spare CV1 controller will it automatically pick up the third controller and show up on the list? - Also I'm too dumb to understand the calibration part, do you pick up your controller AND tracker on the right hand and do the figure 8 or do you do the figure 8 for the tracker on your left hand and right hand together like you're doing figure 8s with each hand? Sorry I just can't tell from the video -Do I have to calibrate everytime I use this setup? -I've got a GTX 1080 but I'm worried it'll cause some performance issues running the headset and virtual desktop for my quest 2 together, is there anything I can do to minimize the performance hit? -Oh and does it matter which direction the controllers are facing when they're strapped to my body and will pressing the buttons on the trackers mess anything up?
did you start SteamVR through Steam? Make sure you start SteamVR through VIRTUAL DESKTOP'S MENU in the Quest. Otherwise SteamVR will start with the CV1
ive tested this software with 3x touch cv1 controllers and the driver4vr software with the same setup and if you set up the cameras well its a good option. comparing driver4vr and this: +less latency +free -its more difficult to calibrate compared to driver4vr -this makes you download 2 programs and the .bat file syntax is odd (but you can just copy what he already suggested so...)
This is almost perfect, however! Virtual Desktop, that thing. I don't have a wired connection, and my connection generally sucks. Is there a workaround? Otherwise, I have to use link.
Like you said.. THIS IS FUCKING INCREDIBLE. I recently bought myself an index and I didn't have a use anymore for my Rift other than Beat Saber. So that means free FBT :D Quick Question: Can u use 3 controllers? I have 2 pair of CV1 controllers for no reason and I wonder if I can use a third one for the hip
You are *exactly* one of the types of people I made this video for! :D I don’t have a 3rd CV1 controller yet, but I think you can just add the 3rd one as a “VR Object”
ive tried both driver4vr and this and eh there's so much to troubleshoot and it takes forever to set up every single time you wanna play and for me at least i had to recalibrate them every 5 minutes cause they kept drifting away which was so annoying. also its a lot better if you zip tie a third controller to a belt!!!
there are times when I have to recalibrate too. As for the drift, that could mean your sensor setup isn't really ideal (all 3 of my sensors are near the ceiling pointing downwards at my playspace) or could be faulty controllers, but mostly sensor setup
@@ReeksofChees3 Figured out my cable was faulty on CV1, now I can't see my controllers in steamVR at all and they won't show the Oculus CV1 in the space calibration but they do in Driver4VR (edit I fixed it for Driver4VR but thanks for the help ReeksOfChess :) )
strange. First off, what headset do you use? Quest Link, Rift S and another CV1 will *not* work with this method because the Oculus runtime only allows one Oculus headset to be connected. If you started SteamVR in Quest Link, Rift S, or CV1 with the run_as_trackers bat file running, the vive trackers would be in the same position as the controllers you're using
If you're referring to using WMR controllers as trackers, I doubt it. The Rift CV1 is tracked with external sensors while every WMR headset uses inside-out tracking. Oculus_Touch_Steam_Link only works with the CV1. There might be a way to use WMR controllers as trackers that I might not know about
How can I do so that the cv1 does not turn off and stop working, what happens is that when I am away for a while the controls of my cv1 stay stopped because the heatset turns off and I have to move it to make it work again, any solution for it?
If I already have a 360 Kibect for FBT, is this recommended? I've always wanted a CV1, so I'm really debating this option. Is this truly really good, and what are the minimum pc requirements for it? With SlimeVR on the market, it's a hard choice for me because SlimeVR is only $180, but it has a long shipping wait. This seems like my best option, right?
Your PC specs need sort of need to be a bit higher than minimum since it's basically 2 headsets running at the same time (check the description for my specs) as for this or SlimeVR, it depends. If you can find a full CV1 kit for $150 OR LESS, you can give this a shot (you cannot use a Rift S or any other Oculus headset. Quest or Quest 2 with Virtual Desktop bypasses Oculus software which is why I recommend it) But if you are willing to wait for SlimeVR shipping and can tolerate the drift that IMUs have, then I'd say go for it.
@@ReeksofChees3 are there any camera placement tips you got? just thinking if i should place them high looking at ground or on floor? again thx for the info
I was wondering how to make the controllers not jiggle cause any way I strap it to my feet it seems to be super flimsy I tried zip ties but the only way I can zip tie it is if the controller is upside down.
no it won't. the CV1 will still only be in the dashboard. To further improve performance ether download ODTKRA github.com/DeltaNeverUsed/ODTKRA/releases or supersample the CV1 to 0.01 in the debug tool
depends on your sensor setup. If you only have the 2 sensors in the front then no. But if you have a third sensor in the back corner facing your playspace then yes! Some people even use just 2 sensors in the corners of their playspace
I’m not sure if I’m doing anything wrong but I’m not able to move the trackers / the cv1 controller after calibrating them in the Vr space but they are able to rotate.
Option A too complicated.. option B too expensive.. option C too expensive..... Yet here's how to do it with only TWO (few hundreds $ worth each) different VR headset.! Just kidding!!, interesting way to do it. 🙂 I'm still with an original CV1 as my main VR headset and its good enough. I dont play enough VR to spend hundreds on a newer unit. And that CV1 I got not too long ago was still brand new in the box for not even 200$ with an extra sensor so.... xD
Hey mate, I’m having troubles with the setup, do I need virtual desktop downloaded on the quest? I bought it for my pc and it doesn’t seem to work right. The controllers in the menu (virtual desktop) are also showing cv1 controllers, not sure if this is because of an order of operation issue as I tried to do the rest of the setup without VD and it was tracking quest controllers and the quest as the same entity.
Yes you NEED Virtual Desktop for QUEST! Not Steam. Not Rift. QUEST! As for starting SteamVR, start the “run_as_trackers” batch file FIRST and then launch SteamVR from VD. If you start SteamVR through anywhere else, it will pick up the CV1 and not the Quest.
The "Run_as_Trackers" batch file treats all CV1 controllers as vive trackers so sadly it will not work that way :( 1:30 "Make sure the actual headset you're using is neither another Rift CV1 nor a Rift S. Because the Oculus runtime can only run one headset at a time, that one's gonna be taken up by the Rift CV1 that'll be controlling our legs" sorry
It will not. Since the oculus software can only have *one* headset connected and active at a time, you could only have either the CV1 or Link, not both Virtual Desktop doesn't need Oculus software to use SteamVR which is why I recommend that so you can have the Quest with VD while still having the CV1 connected
@@ReeksofChees3 thank you so much for the reply. I am stumbling on falling issue though. When I open the folder I don’t see the run as tracker file. What can I do in this case?

You may find a workaround online. I did spot something occasionally. Due to the Rift S' design, this may use a similar method to using a Quest 1/2 as a body tracking solution. You may get more value out of selling the Rift S and getting yourself a CV1 though. Cord damage's the one thing to worry about when using the HMD itself as the waist tracker. Fortunately the cable position means you could attach with your main HMD's linking cable to keep them "together".

isn't quite the best in performance?
The CV1 also has to run at the same time as SteamVR so the Oculus Dashboard also needs to run too. That would most likely give you worse performance than you already have in the first place. I would suggest to consider either getting a laptop with better specs or thermals or just build or buy a desktop PC first. It also depends on how much you can stomach these low framerates too
@@ReeksofChees3 (on my alt, mb) thanks for ur quick response, ur the friggin best
So I found out without kinect fbt i get 36 fps avarage, and 24 with kinect fbt,
If I completely optimize my rift cv1 as to where it would be getting barely any pixels, should it work? All I really need is 15 fps to survive tbh x3
Can never trust a protogen
Nope lol
I don’t have enough money to buy VRCHAT shot so I’m sorry 😕
But I love your channel 💛💙🖤🥰
hopefully you can afford that stuff one day. Thanks and nice colors for the hearts
do i need to recalibrate it everytime i want to play?
yes.
I got some kz zs10 pros in purple, best bang for your buck in ear monitor under 100 bucks, yea thers not a lot of bass, but bass isn't everything, the kz zs10 pros aren't meant for heavy bass, they're meant for you to hear the whole song and all the little details not just the bassy bits
Should I set CV1's trackers to use full body track?
in OculusTouchLink there is nothing called run_as_trackers.bat if you could please make an updated vid it would be much thankful
i agree i couldn't find the file either
this is pretty rad ngl!
Thanks!
modern iterations of oculustouchlink don't include the run_as_trackers batch file. is there something else to be done?
i use haritora x, i can say, using the bathroom is pretty easy lol
well that's good to hear
i have 4 controllers is that possible to use for the hip and chest also with this?
The real maximum is 3 controllers (In which one is assigned as a VR Object). If you really want 4 points, you'd have to use the HMD as a hip tracker and the spare controller as a chest tracker (Or the other way around, whatever works best for you.) Three point tracking by using three controllers is generally fine though.
I use open vr to use CV1 Controllers with quest 2
very cool i have cv1 but not the quest but maybe i can just borrow my partners quests
most underated channel
wow thanks! Make sure to spread the word! :D
you can use Rift CV1 as foot tracking and Owo tracker as hip tracking , really awesome! (also where is ur discord?)
does it work with quest 2 controllers ?
yes
Love your energy man! Gonna pick up an old CV1 just to try this, questions tho:
- If I were to get a spare CV1 controller will it automatically pick up the third controller and show up on the list?
- Also I'm too dumb to understand the calibration part, do you pick up your controller AND tracker on the right hand and do the figure 8 or do you do the figure 8 for the tracker on your left hand and right hand together like you're doing figure 8s with each hand? Sorry I just can't tell from the video
-Do I have to calibrate everytime I use this setup?
-I've got a GTX 1080 but I'm worried it'll cause some performance issues running the headset and virtual desktop for my quest 2 together, is there anything I can do to minimize the performance hit?
-Oh and does it matter which direction the controllers are facing when they're strapped to my body and will pressing the buttons on the trackers mess anything up?
This is fucking sick
IT IS!!
Tried this and sadly my cv1 controllers show up in the reference space instead of the target space.
did you start SteamVR through Steam? Make sure you start SteamVR through VIRTUAL DESKTOP'S MENU in the Quest. Otherwise SteamVR will start with the CV1
@@ReeksofChees3 Yeah that did it, ty. Idk why I skipped that part so sorry.
Could you please make a new updated tutorial? Because it has changed a lot and nothing seems to work for me
What a GOUDA video!!! (its a pun)!!!
Also you should make a video that has something to do with cheese.
th-cam.com/video/SyimUCBIo6c/w-d-xo.html
That really was delicious.
ive tested this software with 3x touch cv1 controllers and the driver4vr software with the same setup and if you set up the cameras well its a good option.
comparing driver4vr and this:
+less latency
+free
-its more difficult to calibrate compared to driver4vr
-this makes you download 2 programs and the .bat file syntax is odd (but you can just copy what he already suggested so...)
So that means free FBT :D
Quick Question: Can u use 3 controllers? I have 2 pair of CV1 controllers for no reason and I wonder if I can use a third one for the hip
You are *exactly* one of the types of people I made this video for! :D
I don’t have a 3rd CV1 controller yet, but I think you can just add the 3rd one as a “VR Object”
ive tried both driver4vr and this and eh there's so much to troubleshoot and it takes forever to set up every single time you wanna play and for me at least i had to recalibrate them every 5 minutes cause they kept drifting away which was so annoying. also its a lot better if you zip tie a third controller to a belt!!!
there are times when I have to recalibrate too. As for the drift, that could mean your sensor setup isn't really ideal (all 3 of my sensors are near the ceiling pointing downwards at my playspace) or could be faulty controllers, but mostly sensor setup
For some reason my CV1 controllers just don't move in steamVR
if they don't move, but you can still see them in SteamVR, make sure that the CV1 HMD's proximity sensor is covered
One problem, when i run steam vr it shows the vive trackers on top of my oculus controllers when i move my rift controllers nothing happens
strange. First off, what headset do you use?
Quest Link, Rift S and another CV1 will *not* work with this method because the Oculus runtime only allows one Oculus headset to be connected.
If you started SteamVR in Quest Link, Rift S, or CV1 with the run_as_trackers bat file running, the vive trackers would be in the same position as the controllers you're using
@@ReeksofChees3 Im currently using a oculus quest 2 as the main headset and the oculus rift controllers as trackers
@@skittleloverr8149 are you using link/air link or virtual desktop with your Quest 2?
@@ReeksofChees3 Im just confused on how you would run steam vr off the oculus quest 2 when the rift is already connected to the pc?
@@ReeksofChees3 i was using link
Could this method work with WMR controllers???
If you're referring to using WMR controllers as trackers, I doubt it.
The Rift CV1 is tracked with external sensors while every WMR headset uses inside-out tracking. Oculus_Touch_Steam_Link only works with the CV1.
There might be a way to use WMR controllers as trackers that I might not know about
@@ReeksofChees3 thanks bro, i'l do some tests anyway.
@@tandyVR set up the headset as a sensor
How can I do so that the cv1 does not turn off and stop working, what happens is that when I am away for a while the controls of my cv1 stay stopped because the heatset turns off and I have to move it to make it work again, any solution for it?
If I already have a 360 Kibect for FBT, is this recommended? I've always wanted a CV1, so I'm really debating this option. Is this truly really good, and what are the minimum pc requirements for it?
With SlimeVR on the market, it's a hard choice for me because SlimeVR is only $180, but it has a long shipping wait.
This seems like my best option, right?
Your PC specs need sort of need to be a bit higher than minimum since it's basically 2 headsets running at the same time (check the description for my specs)
as for this or SlimeVR, it depends. If you can find a full CV1 kit for $150 OR LESS, you can give this a shot (you cannot use a Rift S or any other Oculus headset. Quest or Quest 2 with Virtual Desktop bypasses Oculus software which is why I recommend it)
But if you are willing to wait for SlimeVR shipping and can tolerate the drift that IMUs have, then I'd say go for it.
great vid for explaining. good job. one question tho. If i use 3 cv1 controllers will it work the same or will it not be picked up?
If you add the third CV1 controller as a "VR Object" it should work and that's what I'm using right now

Sorry for so many questions, but how often do you have to recalibrate ovr space calibrator?
depends. If it seems that your trackers don't line up with your actual controllers, you might have to recalibrate
I can't find the ''run as trackers file"
Can you ever revert it or is it like this forever?
I know this video is a little older but can i use the same method to replcae the hand controllers with my old cv1 controllers?
THANK YOU SO MUCH
I was wondering how to make the controllers not jiggle cause any way I strap it to my feet it seems to be super flimsy I tried zip ties but the only way I can zip tie it is if the controller is upside down.
the file you show editing isn't in the folder anymore. is there a solution or is that no longer needed?
I have a rift Cv1 and Rift S, and it sucks i can't do this. unless there is a work around, for steam to see sensors for cv1 controls as lighthouse?
I have a CV1 and two sets of controllers. Can I use the second set for foot trackers while using the other for my hands ?
Does the game render on the cv1 too? If so will it lower performance on the main headset?
no it won't. the CV1 will still only be in the dashboard. To further improve performance ether download ODTKRA github.com/DeltaNeverUsed/ODTKRA/releases or supersample the CV1 to 0.01 in the debug tool
Can you turn around with this method? Or will it lose tracking?
depends on your sensor setup.
If you only have the 2 sensors in the front then no.
But if you have a third sensor in the back corner facing your playspace then yes!
Some people even use just 2 sensors in the corners of their playspace
Think there's anyway to use a 3rd controller as a hip tracker?
I believe so! Pair the 3rd controller to your CV1 as a "VR object"
@@ReeksofChees3 Awesome!
I dont have the run as trackers bat file for some reason did they change how it works?
I’m not sure if I’m doing anything wrong but I’m not able to move the trackers / the cv1 controller after calibrating them in the Vr space but they are able to rotate.
Means your cameras aren't seeing them, and they're relying on 3dof
Option A too complicated.. option B too expensive.. option C too expensive..... Yet here's how to do it with only TWO (few hundreds $ worth each) different VR headset.! Just kidding!!, interesting way to do it. 🙂 I'm still with an original CV1 as my main VR headset and its good enough. I dont play enough VR to spend hundreds on a newer unit. And that CV1 I got not too long ago was still brand new in the box for not even 200$ with an extra sensor so.... xD
xD
If you ask me, the CV1 feels better than the Quest 2 with link cable IMO (CV1 is smooth and snappy, while the Quest 2 feels jello-y)
Where Can i get a oculta rift cv1 D:
You have to get them used or second hand through something like ebay or facebook marketplace since Meta is no longer selling CV1s
If you start SteamVR through anywhere else, it will pick up the CV1 and not the Quest.
would a quest 2 work as feet trackers?
technically, yeah. If you use the QUest 2 through link with this same method as you would with the CV1
Would it work if i only have Cv1 and want to use 2 spare controllers as trackers?
The "Run_as_Trackers" batch file treats all CV1 controllers as vive trackers so sadly it will not work that way :(
1:30 "Make sure the actual headset you're using is neither another Rift CV1 nor a Rift S. Because the Oculus runtime can only run one headset at a time, that one's gonna be taken up by the Rift CV1 that'll be controlling our legs"
sorry
Theres no run as trackers bat file?
would this work using quest 2 controllers as trackers with an index?
If I have both a cv1 and a rift s does that mean I cannot do this?
sadly, you cannot :(
@@ReeksofChees3 dam that's an f
There is no batch file
can i use 4 quest 2 controllers?
Will this work if I’m using link instead of Virtual Desktop?
It will not. Since the oculus software can only have *one* headset connected and active at a time, you could only have either the CV1 or Link, not both
Virtual Desktop doesn't need Oculus software to use SteamVR which is why I recommend that so you can have the Quest with VD while still having the CV1 connected

wow thank you so much! :3
can you not use a rift s at all? its the only other headset i have aside from the cv1 :(
same here bro, rough
You may find a workaround online. I did spot something occasionally. Due to the Rift S' design, this may use a similar method to using a Quest 1/2 as a body tracking solution.
You may get more value out of selling the Rift S and getting yourself a CV1 though. Cord damage's the one thing to worry about when using the HMD itself as the waist tracker. Fortunately the cable position means you could attach with your main HMD's linking cable to keep them "together".

dont run the bat file as administrator it just closes back up for me, run it as normal thats how it worked for me
