Back in the day when a man in a frock was funny and we were ALL in on the joke. Nobody did it better than these two. Thank you for posting, I so enjoyed this.
I used to own a cafe in the NWUK. Roy Barraclough was a regular. I was always itching to ask him what it was like to work with Les Dawson, but I figured he came to my cafe for breakfast, not to be interviewed by me. In the end, it was enough for me that a performer of his calibre frequented my establishment regularly. Apart from that, he was a very nice man and would always say hello.
I used to love watching and laughing at this with my Grandma on a Saturday night. Her house was my safe place as a young child and we’d watch it with a roaring coal fire and sucking on Refresher sweets. Watching Cissie and Ada now , I can smell that coal fire, taste those Refresher sweets and feel my Grandma stroking my hair as I sat on the floor in between her legs, and I’m 50 now. Thanks for the very happy memories ❤
Les Dawson was always a favourite in our house when I was a kid. My parents loved him. I remember watching him on TV and all of us rolling with laughter. He was a big risque and that's what made him funny. His habit of "silent speaking" when he was talking about something a bit "risky" reminded us of my grandmother who though somewhat refined like Cissy, insisted on only mouthing certain things especially in front of me when I was in the room. I still remember it all these years later with affection.
My all-time fav.On holiday in spain,ADA'Cissie i don't like it here,it's too hot,and the food is terrible' CISSIE' Have you had the shish kebabs?' ADA'Ever since we arrived'. HO!HO!@@geraldmorgan2539
These two remind me of my Nan and the Neighbours chatting,so funny. Someone always had" Trouble down below" and the amount of things I was going to be told when I was older!😂
I have been in stitches for the whole video. Missed the good old day's without ANYONE telling us their opinions. Thank god i was so lucky to have had a great time in Great Britain! 😅❤😊 Thank you.💋❤💋❤
Fantastic, well done for posting this. I think they were both equally good in these sketches. I am getting on a bit now and I know lots of people my age say it but, I do remember ladies when I was kid mouthing some words because they thought they were a bit naughty. Even my own Mother would mouth the word lavatory if we were in a busy place lol. Also, as someone else has commented, there are sketches here I have not seen before and I have seen a lot. How life has changed, we will never see comedy like this again, as Cissie and Ada would say "mores the pity".
The wonderful Cissie and Ada, so lovely to watch these back to back. I remember watching 'Sez Lez' and the Lez Dawson show, when I was young and Cissie and Aga were always my favourite. Thanks for bringing back some lovely memories to me.
They remind me of my elderly relatives when I was growing up and how they would motion with their hands while mouthing a word they wouldn't say around me 😂
I’ve never seen these before. I’m loving it! So funny. The character of Ada reminds me of Brendon O’Carrol(?)’s character on Mrs Browns Boys. Like they’re kindred spirits 😊
This is comedy, if this had been a weekly series on just Aida and Cissy it would have been no 1, I wish we had that kind of comedy today, the double entendre are fantastic and what our humour was built on
In fact, talks were underway when I was working at LWT to give them a series of their own, but Les's untimely death ended that idea. So sad, it would have been brilliant, but we are still lucky that so many of these sketches remain.
I have neighbours here in Australia are just like these two. Gossipy cows. But Les and Roy are in a class of their own. Yesterday was my first experience of "The Dawson Watch". Had never heard of them. Now keen viewer.
No swearing, unlike most modern so called comedy. Shock value doesn't equate to good humour. These are pure class from a time that seems so distant now.
Well! I guess I was pig ignorant to have thought I’d seen all there was to see of Cissie & Ada! What a joy to have just watched all of this compilation, I’m sat her at home by myself and laughed out loud throughout the whole thing 😂. Les and Roy truly embodied their characters. I’m 44 so I guess I’m on the younger side of the Les Dawson fans out there, but the exchanges between the pair remind me of the conversations between my mum and her cousin that I used to overhear as a child and indeed as an adult. My mum, who was a a huge fan of Les has now passed, but I see my mums cousin quite often and her mannerisms and mouthing of unmentionable words always makes me smile. I’ve just subscribed to your channel as by looking at it it’s right up my street! Dawson, Grayson and the wonderful Williams!
Oh dear God. I'm 61 and mouth the unmentionable's!. I remember these pair. They were and are still so hilarious. I never thought I'd turn into them!. LOL
I love Les's rubbery faces and subtle aside glances to camera. The BBC put them on Radio 2 on Sunday afternoons as a show called Listen to Les. It was the same material and it still worked because the comedy was as much audio as visual. That's one thing that oughtn't work so well on radio, but you'd feel it in the silences. You actually knew what he was doing. Your mind filled in the blanks perfectly. So it did work.
Just discovered your post. Thank you so much. Brought back many funny memories. I remember ladies like this when I was very young and my mum would be chatting in the street when we went shopping on a Saturday morning,it used to take ages to get there and back home. Women used to say ' she had it all took away ' It took me years to work out what they meant!
I love the affectionate dig at Des O'Connor when reading about the clairvoyant - Ada: "Oh, she once foretold many years ago that Des O'Connor would become a singer". Cissie: Well, she can't be right every time".
Loved these two... Well drawn characters and hilarious in the way that women of that era were 😊😂 and not the least bit offensive... Coming from someone who dislikes drag, that's a compliment!
In that first scene when Les walks through the door as "Cissie & Ada" I was absolutely astonished to see how small he was,he had such an enormous force of personality I always imagined him to be a big bear of a man!!
I think I have some insight into something I could be wrong but I get a secret giggle whenever the" I've got toes like Globe artichokes " joke is attempted, I've heard it in a number of their skits, Sissy said at least once Ada a few times and it never gets the laugh that you can tell that les Dawson wants it to get because he probably wrote the joke and he thinks it's funny so he keeps putting it in the skits and it kind of tanks every time , and that makes me laugh. That's just a wild guess on my part but it resonates for some reason. If it's true you got to admire a guy with that kind of persistence.
And that pushing up her boob thing is genius I had lots of aunties and stuff just like her they also used to keep their cigarette packs in these vinyl pouch purses that were about the same size as a pack of cigarettes had a pocket on the outside where you could put your lighter and brass clasp where could close it up at the top does anybody else remember those ?
I could watch Roy Barraclough in drag all day! r.i.p Cissie❤Ada

That's sooo true x
Roy and Les are absolutely perfect together as Cissie and Ada. They have a perfect rapport.
old humor WHERE HAS IT GONE !!!!!!! love it
You need to go and see a drag show, mate.
It's tucked in the back of the wardrobe!! It's not allowed out due to the PC police...
@@Lurkin_Not_Workin Ridiculous statement. Go to a drag act sometime. Totally non PC.
Political correctness banned it.
les dawson was a f*****G genius, his facial expressions, timimg etc, what a comedian
Legendary. There should be a Hall of Fame for these kinds of comedians. Les would be the 1st inductee. The only thing is, who would induct him?
We really do need these kind of comedians today…absolutely brilliant ..so missed …How I wish I could go back……I loved these two XXXX

All this time I did not realise it was Roy . Lol . Thank you
@@JuggiesArchive Happy to share. It is a nice memory.
@@retrowatches1655 lol At the time, he was acting in Coronation Street, but I never watch soaps. I prefer him in a frock and a wig. 😜

Sounds like lovely memories. Happy to be of help 😁👌👍
Such simple tokens of love …yet so long lasting!…you had a loving grandmother (so had l!)
Lovely moments
My nana loved these 2 as well.
I still get fond memories.
Back in the late 70'S & 80's, I too watched these with my gran. The old ladies loved the camp. Larry Grayson was another fav.
Some cracking lines in these clips. Roy and Les, a great match.
Such a load of rubbish , our so called comedians now , just brilliant those two together
Absolutely brilliant pair😂😂

I was fortunate enough to meet Les in a club in Bradford. He bought me a pint [ i was only 15] he was totally down to earth, top bloke.Cheers Les.
Great lines he was hung by the catangas

The scriptwriting is stunning, even by today's standards. Everything else, set, lighting, acting, timing, camerawork, just brilliant.
Oh bless them, nothing like them nowadays. So so funny all the innuendos 🤣🤣and Les’s facial expressions 😆

Impeccable timing from two comic geniuses!

This has totally made my day - thanks a million for posting. Cissie and Ada they really dont make them like that any more.

Every time I watch cissie and ada i find something else to laugh my head off x totally hilarious 😂❤
The frightening thing is that as a child I remember women who looked just like Ada.
All my great aunts looked and dressed like Ada. Actually, one was called Ada.
Absolutely, and as a boy in the 70s they always seemed to sit next to me on the bus and squash me up against the window lolol
Even more frightening? If Ada had longer hair and a unibrow, I have a friend that could be her double. She's a luv, but it's fact.
All married women looked and talked like Ada then!
Before HRT.
I absolutely love British comedy! My parents always had the Brit. comedies on when I was growing up.❤😂
The wonderful Cissie and Ada, so lovely to watch these back to back. I remember watching 'Sez Lez' and the Lez Dawson show, when I was young and Cissie and Aga were always my favourite. Thanks for bringing back some lovely memories to me.
Thank you for watching 👍😁
It's a shame that the people who weren't around for this won't understand a lot of what they're saying, won't see the humour in it 😆😂🤣

sort of like something eric morcambe would say.
Ahhhhhhhhh, when we could laugh at men dressed up and imitating women.......the good old days
Oh don’t be so right-woke. You can still laugh at them now. They’re called drag queens. Good grief!
This was brilliant. Thanks for uploading such great comedy. xx
@Anhedonian Ghost, thank you for posting this beautifully clear, and well synced copy of these marvelous clips!

You're very welcome. I think they played Cissie and Ada over 1000 times altogether...!
Thank you for posting these gems.
I love les Dawson. Well worth the license fee. Now I rarely have my tv on They should put more stuff like this on TV
I seldom watch tv these days too. TH-cam is enough for me 👌
I would be lost without TH-cam x
They won't put anything even remotely entertaining on anymore with our current regime of being offended by absolutely bloody everything
Thank you for this. You really can't beat them.

True comedy. True talent unlike the so called comedians of today.
