Do you or did you suffer from perioral dermatitis? Any tips you want to share?

I don't have the finances to go to the dermatologist and experiment with different meds etc. After my husband passing away 3 yrs ago and me having to sell everything move in with my elderly parents attic the stress has only gotten worse. So maybe that has was has triggered this. After watching literally dozens of videos I finally decided to do nothing. It was tough at first because my skin so very very dry. My face was so tight and I didn't think I was going to be able to do this. It has been two weeks and most of the redness and bumps are gone. I still have a little redness around the right eye and very faint signs of redness around my nose. But so far it appears that just drying out and letting my skin heal itself seems to be working. It is slow going but using all these creams and meds take a long time to see improvement too. And once you stop all the meds it comes back for most people. I don't know if this would be helpful to anyone else but it is working for me.

Perfectly said! I get it chronically:( tretinoin was my trigger. Now I have to be careful with cosmetics and skincare to avoid a flare. I’ve kept it under control with minimal products, and foundation only on special occasions.

Im a guy. Ive suffered acne and seborrheic dermatitis for decades. Now i have a mixture of acne and perioral dermatitis. It takes very little to flare it. Forgetting to wash off Benzoyl peroxide can drive it nuts, i only leave it on for 5 minutes. Washing with soap, not good. Any topical, you name it, ive used it, they all flare up Perioral dermatitis. Some overnight, some take many days. There is only one topical that calms POD and thats Elidel but unfortunately this gives me acne. Cant win.

@@DoctorAnne I've been to many dermatologists throughout my life. The usual course of oral antibiotics and topicals. I've learned to live with these conditions. Seb derm is easy to deal with. But the acne with perioral derm is tough. The best I could come up with is 5 minutes of 5% benzoyl peroxide, wash off and then apply Elidel or Protopic. It's not perfect, but it helps.

I hope and pray this helps many of you suffering for a long time.
I suffered from this since November of 2023. It first started small then overtook half the bottom of my face. It burned, itched and tingled. I tried almost every natural remedy which may have made it worse. I also was prescribed metro-gel for my family doctor which made it even worse as well. The only things that worked were plan greek yogurt overnight on my face to stop the itching and I purchaed canestan external cream (2% clotrimazole cream) which is an Anti Fungal.
My doctor told me that if its not caused by bacteria then its caused by a fungus.
It has been 3 full days and my PD is almost
Entirely healed (90%). I expect it to be fully gone by day 5.
Please if any of you are frustrated then try it. I apply it 3 times per day
      God bless.

@@ccee3407 I've read many stories of people who have treated this successfully with topical antifungals. Unfortunately I didn't have any luck with oral or topical antifungals. There's nothing I haven't tried. Thanks for your comment.
