2:04 Nice insulation, was that some kind of cement/plaster poured over the blocks?
What kind of creature is that person riding at 2:21?
Thanks for sneaking in and showing us the "forbidden" 📹😜

@@Gronk80 the Dark Church is about 1000 years old. I checked out the Dardanelles in my Gallipoli video!

Lol. When you passed the Göreme sign I remembered, this is where I was in 1992. It was exactly the same then, full of tourists, bussloads. Mind you, it was one of the few ones you could go to unless you had your own transportation. Fantastic place, not so great experience. Will you visit the underground cities? That was awesome but also regulated, but it was like 8 level and connecting tunnels to other underground cities.

To be fair they also do need to upkeep those churches and the frescoes in it. If it was only the regular "buildings" that can be found everywhere else in Cappadocia, I'd agree completely, but they do have those churches and frescoes here. And if they are going to have a lot of tourists regardless, with tour busses no less, they might as well make a buck out of it. I don't know how much the entry was, but in general it is a good idea to do what they did, as long as the price is reasonable. Now for a free spirit like you, sure, but then why come here in the first place, like you said, there are many places like this, that is, if you don't care much about the churches, and that's perfectly understandable.
I don't know, I can see where you're coming from, but it's also pretty much definitely not a scam unless there's something you're not telling us. From what you're presenting right now, unless it's very expensive for the time spent there and what there is to see (churches + frescoes are definitely worth a price tag imo), everything seems normal to me, a lot of historical places do this, generally for conservation purposes.
I'll also say that I am generally unimpressed by Christian art, and also by normally square or oblong dug rooms, so I'd probably not go there except maybe for landscapes, which can be done anywhere in Cappadocia really. You have shown us many Ancient Greek/Ancient Roman ruins and sites, and that's what's scratching my itch personally.

@lonewaer totally agree, in hindsight I was perhaps a bit harsh. I think I got so worked up because of the whiplash of the last place where you could freely explore everything without a fee or crowds, but yes they do need money to maintain the churches. I think the fee was just a bit too high, plus there was an extra fee to get into the Dark Church. Guess I got a bit miffed 😤
