I went a year with the Steam Deck as my primarily gaming device. After 3-4 days getting accustomed to the Ally's screen, light weight, and speakers, I completely stopped using my Deck. There are many things I miss about my Deck, but nothing that would make me want to give up the Ally's beautiful 1080p, 120hz, VRR, display. Add in my new ability to play Roblox and Minecraft with my kids on it, I have no regrets selling my Steam Deck. The Ally definitely isn't for everyone, but it meets my needs.
Hey man - just wanted to say how much I appreciate your content and thought process! Love these discussions - everything's clear, well-paced, logical, and relatable the whole way. You've got the right voice and presence too. I know you'll def get more subs. More power to you!
my problem isn't the performance with the Ally, my issue is the people behind it ASUS simply are not reliable to provide long term support, care about gamers, care about features we want and provide the best solutions, i cant trust that ASUS 1 year from now will be providing updates for my 1.5k$ without dropping it for a new model Steam deck care about the gamers, care about the software, and care about meaningful updates and support
The Ally is awesome for what it does. It's priced just right. I do wish they would've gave made a Pro version with more of everything including a bigger 8.4" 16:10 screen. I wouldn't mind paying a little more for that. The RDNA 3 iGPU is equivalent to a 1650 but not so much a 1650Ti. 2 years ago you could get a labtop with with similar performance to the Ally around the same price if not cheaper. Btw my travel case on Ali came quicker then I thought. It's an awesome case! It fits the Ally perfectly. I could fit in the stock adapter and a 20K flat power bank.. There is still more room for wires and other stuff as well. It's way cheaper than the official travel and is perfect for what I needed. It even has a better built-in stand as well. I'm still going to get a slimmer TomToc case just for the Ally whenever they make one. Have fun on your trip man. Can I say something? Your voice sounds very mature for your age. I initially thought you were in your 40s but I only to find out that you're in your early 20s. 😊
I think you could be holding the Ally wrong. If you hold the Ally like the Steam Deck, then you have the issue you mentioned about having to use your pinky to brace it. You have to hold the Ally like a tablet. Retro Game Corps had a video for his review of the Ally where he talks about this 13 minutes into the video. Try his way of holding and see if that works for you. Others TH-camrs have mentioned this very different way of building this console. I have to use a different grip than using an Xbox controller.
Not sure what’s going on but now my ally won’t run games saying I need compatible gpu any way I can fix this? My screen resolution looks small and hard to read
I'm a console player only...Xbox...I play handheld games before with the PSP and PS Vita which I still have up and running...🎮... I really thinking 🤔 about picking one up at my local Best Buy.... however I'm skeptical 🫤 due to the reviews of setting it up.... which sounds difficult.... just saying..... any feedback or thoughts regarding my concerns.....
Get it my dude! I have both. I made the Ally my replacement mobile gaming desktop, paired with the xg mobile. So awesome! It's basically 1080p ,high frame rate xbox series x.
After playing Star Wars Jedi Survivor on my Scar 15 in comparison my Ally's fan noise is actually lower! I'm selling my steam deck! Love your honest opinion! Great channel
The Switch managed a silent function by heavily underclocking all of its components when undocked. The trade off is simple, you either want power + noise, or less noise + less power. You can't have both. The ally almost got it right, but they shot their own foot by putting the SD card slot right next to the exhaust.... Now they increased the fan curve because it was frying sd cards. Dumb of them tbh.
Appreciate the content as a new Ally owner at about 3 weeks in, really loving it so far. Playing RE3 remake as we speak and looks amazing and much better than when I played it on PS4 Pro at essentially same settings at 1080p but better frame rates and higher res textures. The fact I can play ps4 pro level or better graphics and gameplay in a handheld form, wouldn’t never thought would get that at this point in time. Only gripe I have so far is when plugged in at turbo mode getting really high temps at 95c and will thermal throttle to silent after few minutes. If any suggestions on how to play at turbo plugged in at sustained ok temps and not thermal throttle I’d like to know. If it is a defect then will have to reach out to Asus
I have both, the 512GB Steam Deck and the Asus ROG Ally. That said, my main playing device is the Steam Deck, mainly because it's more durable, it has better battery life, it feels and better in the hand. I only go to my Asus, when play "windows" specific games that need to run on Windows, or large games that need more CPU\GPU that don't run well on the Steam deck. That said mostly everything I play runs well on the Steam Deck . Where Windows is bloaty in storage, I also try to run everything on the Steam deck when I can. I have been very happy with both, but in hindsight I would of kept only the Steam deck and added a 2gb SSD to it and partioned part of to run Windows and just dual booted when I needed to. The performance increase I get from the Asus over the Steam deck isn't worth the price of a new handheld since I already owned the Steam deck, IMO - Still since I already purchased both I will keep both.
Well my sd card slot just broke I'm not going to return it I'm going to just upgrade to the 1 tb internal ssd. I wasn't even using my sd slot when it broke i think it got to hot and now its not showing up in the device. Just wanted to giving you a heads up
Good videos, I like your content. One thing, you seem to be hung up on the fan curve not improving your FPS or performance? To me, the fan curve is just a means to keep your Ally running cooler, not to really improve FPS or performance. Anyway, keep up the good work and videos!
I remember when you got the ally and played modern warfare you said it looked console quality. Could you make a video comparing it to actual consoles, not seen anybody do it yet and I think it would be kind of cool.
I don't like the new fan curves it forces in manual and turbo. It never got hot enough for me to worry before with my usage. It's not even that loud now but it's enough that I can't say it being almost silent vs my Deck and AYANEO like I could before 322. I hope they get rid of it in the future as I really don't want to flash back and use 319 for the rest of the devices life.
I've had my Ally for a 3 weeks now and i love it! Also, i have a Rog Scar 15 laptop so transitioning was hard for me because i understood that the Ally is a windows pc first so you have to treat it as such, you have to run the games through armory crates se, my amd to run the games smoothly but after that everything is good. I do hate the update cycle and debloating but if your patient its a beast of a handheld!!
On Saturday I took a chance and shelled out $945 CAD (incl tax). First thing I noticed was the screen, its sharper and has better colors than the SD. The SD's screen is my biggest problem. Too many jaggy lines and sometimes the picture quality looks blotchy. With the Ally 15 mins into playing the TLOU part 1 1080p low settings and getting 30 to high 40's fps at 30 watts totally sold me lol. It's not perfect with Armory Crate and Win 11 but it still works. No buyers remorse here.
I guess it’s made for people with smaller hands like me because it feels fine. I like im how I can customize everything to my needs. Good review though very straight forward and too the point. Better than a lot of the “reviews” and thoughts on devices
Love my Ally. They need to figure out the sd card issue, thats my only gripe. I have my fans set to like 75ish % and can't hear over the awesome speakers. With that curve I rarely get above 70°. There should be no reason to go to 100% Its far superior to the deck in my opinion.
Love the Ally, but i don't like the new BIOS 322 update. I still get high temps plus now the fans are way louder on Turbo mode than in 319. Setting fan curves manually doesn't help, cuz now it forces you to use atleast 75% fan speed on higher temps and you can't set it any lower than that... 75% fans are loud as fuck.
I have an Asus Zephyrus G14 and never set it on Turbo. The fans are always too loud and it gets hot. Sometimes it is best to play on low/medium settings on silent mode.
I played Diablo 3 tonight on steam deck, unleashed 70-110 FPS, 60hz. Thats where the deck shines, older triple a games or indy games. I wouldn't think of the deck as a keepsake as it kills Ally at 15 watts on any games. My problem with the ally is rvery user I see is plugged in while playing. Thats not a handheld, I also have a gaming laptop blows Ally out of the ocean, which i can stream to my steam dexk. I just hope no one is buying the Ally as a substitute for a gaming pc or laptop.
Windows 11.... OMFG I feel like breaking my Ally from time to time. My 3D stopped working for some unknown reason. Driver re-install didn't work. Gotta go nuclear, this better not end with an RMA.
Good job man, i love all of the games you showed off in this video. I'm so glad you didn't just sit there on the chrome home page for 18 minutes and complain that your hands don't fit the device 🥴
Agreed on everything performance is amazing however it is not comfortable at all in my hands. Love everything else. The steam deck is a dream to hold but it's a heavy ass brick. Once I got this I won't ever turn on my steam deck lol. I tend to do that once I got the steam deck my switch went into a drawer same when I got the rog ally. Lol. I found some 3d printed grips for the corners on the ally I'm on the fence $20 for those lol I rather buy a full slip on case.
I hate the steam deck. It feels so heavy and gives me cramps if I play it longer than 15 mins. The rog is perfect for me I think due to me being used to xbox controller so it feels natural, less strain on my hands and never once felt a cramp. Only issue is battery which I get 1.5h on triple A games
The fanboyism accusations come because people love their device religiously. And they might be bored... And I actually don't think the cheaper version will even be released. It was a mock model to be closer to the price of the most expensive Steam Deck(that has the same performance as the cheapest one).
Got my asus rog ally a couple of days ago, and I really like it a lot. I’ve always liked handheld gaming and the Ally is one of my favorite handhelds now. Still half to get a steam deck though, but at the same time I’m not sure because it’s just a steam machine. Ally if you want a pc experience, Deck if you want a console experience
I'll tell you guys too as someone that had the AYANEO 2021 Pro with 4800U for a little bit before my Deck preorder ( I got the 512gb) finally shipped out to me. I really tried to love it but I didn't like it more AT ALL. It was still selling for more than I paid so I flipped it. I've since had AYANEO NEXT , then the 2 (I still have it) , and now the Ally. I bought another Deck during the first discount sale and it was a waste of money for me again. I was really hoping at the price my wife would play the indie stuff we buy twice so she can have it on the DECK but she has showed no interest in the DECK :( .
Few? ALL SD card readers will either die themselves or brick your SD Cards. Give it time and the failure rate is VERY high! Mine went DOA after 2 weeks...back to Bestbuy for this UNFINISHED pile of dog crap.
If/when you make a comparison between the SteamDeck and the Ally, make sure to take into account screen resolution. I have seen many Steam fanboys videos ridiculing the ROG device for « only achieving similar or lower FPS » than the Deck despite its much more powerful (and power-hungry) hardware. They could use a reminder that transitioning from 720p to 1080p more than *doubles* pixel count. In first approximation, achieving an *identical* FPS therefore equates to a factor two in performance.
I have all 3 handhelds. The switch, Rog and Deck and let me tell you, neither handheld replaces my Switch. Despite the technical advantage and the desktop experience (which is more cool than a necessity) I still prefer the switch over both, I love my switch. If anything, these pc handhelds proves how well built the switch is. Some games still look better on switch while some games still look good enough only proves that the switch was a well built and design system for its time and still stand the test of time. Why do u think the switch is still the preferred handheld over all? The Rog and Deck are pretty much a flop sales wise and popularity wise. I can never disrispect the switch, which pretty much birthed these handhelds. Everybody is more so looking forward to the switch 2 over all handhelds right now, and will set the world on fire when it released regardless of power. Now, I agree with your comparison between the Deck and The Rog. I do believe the Rog is better than the Deck in a few aspects but, the battery life is what kill the Rog for me. The screen on the Rog is great and far better than the Deck. Even the desktop mode is amazing on the Rog. Overall, I think the Deck is better just because if the longer battery life and the ease of use for playing some games. Switch is still 🤴
I do too have a launch day switch that has custom firmware and, the oled switch that I'm thinking of also getting modded it. When Nintendo drops the next Switch hopefully its has more power to run games in handheld mode 1080p 60fps docked 1440p 60fps with hdr cause their Investors and, 3rd parties are pushing Nintendo too. Hopefully, the boomers running it listen. But, my deck and, ally also have a place in this market for sure. Might not convert Nintendo stans to switch over but, doesn't need to just like pc gaming exists with consoles it's all about having options. I for sure love the oled screen and, the battery life on the switch but, the Ally is my go to switch games run fine with Yuzu and, Ryujinx just got done with Mario Rabbits 2 a few hours ago. Ally has some issues but, what doesn't these days?
@@mosthated8848 I agree when it comes to a wireless portable handheld no one beat Nintendo. I don't even like Nintendo as a company but they know how to make a good handheld. Ally is one of the best plugged-in laptop in disguised as a handheld on the market.
The Deck is a flop sales wise? They've sold over a million of them and are on track to sell something like 3.5 million by the end of the year. That's not much compared to the switch, but for what is essentially a PC those are amazing sales figures.
@LawlessNate if the switch sold 3.5 million in two years ,nintendo would be the laughing stock and all you'll hear around the internet is doom and gloom videos and nintendo should go 3rd party, but if the Deck sells 3.5 million is a win? How does that makes sense? People love to move the goal post when they want things in their favor instead of accepting the truth. To make you feel better though, the Steam Deck is thr most successful pc gandheld out of the bunch and rightfully so they deserve it. They not fcking with nintendo though lol
@@redcrimson1028 The difference is the Switch has it's own games. What keeps PC handhelds from becoming a complete failure is it doesn't have games made for it. If PC handhelds did have to have games made for it then the Deck it would as big failure as the Steam Machine was. Of course that the downside is PC games (as well as Windows) are not designed to be played on a 7"screen and/or with a controller. No one have come close of success of Nintendo when it comes to handhelds. This is why Sony Q is made to play ps5 games remotely so it doesn't require games made for the device.
Checked out at 1:00. How are you going to expect anyone to value your perspective when the first 60 seconds of your retrospective you pull out a Steam Deck and begin talking about how it's on sale currently.
Unfortunantly I do not have the luxury of larger youtubers you probably are comapring me to, I have to post often to reach a wonder audience for the time being. I am sorry if that offends you 💙
People stop making ur preferences fact! Everything’s great buttttt the button layout is different. It runs amazing but 20 mins less….though it charges super fast. It looks ugly….so do you. Fan is unbearable. Though it’s still quieter then the deck when running full power. Power hungry, powerless. Fans don’t give you more performance its suppose to keep performance steady. The ally is able to crank up to full quickly and yes the heat will go to max because that’s how it’s suppose to be unless you want it to just run retro games then there’s no point. I sold my deck for almost retail since everyone’s being convinced the deck will be a valuable device in the further. everything else will just be way ahead since valve ain’t upgrading to deck 2 for 10 years. The deck is going to be the same as the switch. It’s not innovative enough to become something like the game boy. It’s not even close. These are devices people. Stop the loyalty and be loyal to a woman or something.
I agree with ur comparison that's what it about rog and steam deck ..but i would have to disagree with you on last parts that steam deck 2 isn't happening in next 10 years and that it will be stuck like switch..both of them will have multiple generation maybe steam deck 3 might be last until they do something else entirely new..but i asus will have multiple generation because it's a hardware company they make money by units not usage
@@jinkaiser7482 the deck is a handheld trying to be a pc, the ally is a pc trying to be a handheld. The ally is already basically a console generation ahead in comparison. 720 low setting on most games not retro or indie, they ally runs at 1080 on med high with many recent and new games. Another year and the deck really will be like a game boy compared to what’s out. That’s not going to become a big deal. The deck is nowhere close to the gameboys popularity and sales.
@@nomaschalupas2453 that's true it's not as popular as Gameboy or Nintendo switch..and yeah im kind of disappointed that having been a latest device it should have had enough power to play AAA games at least on mid settings...most latest games needs to be played on low settings yet thet get barely playable fps ..rog went totally right in that path also they have egpu so you don't even need to buy rog 2.. But nowadays they push the series to new generation anyways... that's why i said .. maybe in few years when it's well known maybe they will release steam deck 2
@@nomaschalupas2453 That is why these handheld consoles need dedicated games being made for them like Nintendo does and even the PlayDate (love it or hate it). I wish Sony and Xbox seriously got into this market. I really liked the Vita.
Value most likely will release a better Deck in 2026 they competing with the Switch. Nintendo is being forced by its investors to push out a better product in the next year or 2. So Value will see how the market results are and then release a new deck. Value is not worried about other companies like Asus or AyA.
Still using mine every day and my 3060ti collecting dust 😂😂.I updated it to 322 bios and it’s working great life of p demo running medium 1080p 70-80 fps fsr performance and 3mark 3270-3300 score spydemo.just ordered iglo 8in 1 dock to see how it works on Tv

Can I go to Bestbuy and hold the Ally on display?
I am 6'6, and with some of the largest hands that I've seen, and the ally fits perfectly in my catcher's mitts.

Lol. I found some 3d printed grips for the corners on the ally I'm on the fence $20 for those lol I rather buy a full slip on case.
i wanna buy it but got hit with the "pre order " wall
It’s available on every major pc stores in my country 😅
@iancharles9222 dayum u re lucky .
i can but it in my country used only for 1000 usd minimum 😐
@@amirkaragozlu thats super overpriced bro. Hopefully you can find other ways to order it.
@@iancharles9222 thanks bro . hopefully.
Must be an Xbot when you mentioned how weird is the thumbstick position
All fair points. VRR is the key thing for me. I will not buy another handheld without it.
Nintendo switch is silent because it don’t have much power. In my opinion the damn ayaneo is loud.
Mine is still a week away….😂
The fanboyism accusations come because people love their device religiously. And they might be bored...
And I actually don't think the cheaper version will even be released. It was a mock model to be closer to the price of the most expensive Steam Deck(that has the same performance as the cheapest one).
Got my asus rog ally a couple of days ago, and I really like it a lot. I’ve always liked handheld gaming and the Ally is one of my favorite handhelds now. Still half to get a steam deck though, but at the same time I’m not sure because it’s just a steam machine. Ally if you want a pc experience, Deck if you want a console experience
Hell, same performance and better battery would be fine
I'll tell you guys too as someone that had the AYANEO 2021 Pro with 4800U for a little bit before my Deck preorder ( I got the 512gb) finally shipped out to me. I really tried to love it but I didn't like it more AT ALL. It was still selling for more than I paid so I flipped it. I've since had AYANEO NEXT , then the 2 (I still have it) , and now the Ally. I bought another Deck during the first discount sale and it was a waste of money for me again. I was really hoping at the price my wife would play the indie stuff we buy twice so she can have it on the DECK but she has showed no interest in the DECK :( .
sounds like you just buy shit you don't like or need.
@@ancientflames I enjoyed all of it but the DECK. I love PC hardware it's one of my hobbies at home in the middle of nowhere.
@@ancientflames I usually only keep one of a kind I'm just not 100% sure on my Ally replacing my Neo 2 yet so it stays for now.
Few? ALL SD card readers will either die themselves or brick your SD Cards. Give it time and the failure rate is VERY high! Mine went DOA after 2 weeks...back to Bestbuy for this UNFINISHED pile of dog crap.
I love my ally more than my deck but I wish they would have used a 50w battery or higher idc if its heavier or thicker
2:05 no one is an Asus fanboy, lol.
You would be surprised Lol. I’ve seen a lot people do Asus pc builds only, or go out of their way to buy the Asus 4090 card because it’s made by Asus.
@@Vali-_- I could maybe understand evga when they made GPUs but otherwise that seems insane.
Man for me I love how it fit in my Hands my steam deck never felt right because of the touch pads.
Checked out at 1:00. How are you going to expect anyone to value your perspective when the first 60 seconds of your retrospective you pull out a Steam Deck and begin talking about how it's on sale currently.
Lmfao 😂😂😂😂 you comparing a device that just came out to a 1.5 yo console bruh... chill......
Thr steam deck looks so ugly lol
Dude you post way too many videos repeating yourself.
Unfortunantly I do not have the luxury of larger youtubers you probably are comapring me to, I have to post often to reach a wonder audience for the time being. I am sorry if that offends you 💙
@@gamersdigesterdon’t apologize to douchebags like this! Keep up the great work!
Too bad Cyber Punk is a terrible game.
I have recently put about 50 hours into the game and it has been a BLAST! 💙
The thing I dislike about these devices are the battery lives ......I'll stick with Android.

Steam deck 2 isn’t going to be major
Steam Deck 2 will be most likely in late 2026
