Be Strong in the Lord - Lyrics

- I appreciate all the positive comments :) I didn't know it'd be so popular and that it'd be a blessing to alot of people. Now that it is, I sincerely wish I could remove the beginning of the video and the ending of it, because it makes it seem as if I didn't post the video so people could meditate upon the song (well, I didn't think about that anyway at the time).
I like this song, the music in particular but also the lyrics. The idea of putting on the armor the Lord provides and doing battle with the devil goes back to Jesus himself and even further into the times of the Hebrew patriarchs, all the way to Abraham. This zest for battle, fighting against evils and overcoming obstacles runs like a blood-red line through Western Civilization, distinguishing it from, say, the Hindu and Buddhist cultures of the East. Those cultures appear to emphasize not struggle but escape----escape from the woes of earthly existence into Nirvana. Maybe this is one reason modern science and technology developed in Western Europe rather than in China or India.
Also noteworthy is how easily the traditional Western orientation, rooted in Judaism and Christian beliefs, can be filled with non-Christian beliefs. Take this song, for example. If the references to the Lord and the armor the Lord has provided are replaced with references to the Fuehrer and the tanks of the German army, the song could serve as a battle hymn perfectly suited to the Wehrmacht circa 1942. This is not to disparage the original Christian stance but only to show how it could be and, I believe was, adapted by men who were anything but Christians to ends that included the eventual eradication of Christianity. These men took the old fighting creed they inherited and replaced its doctrines with notions of racial superiority and imperial conquest that had nothing to do with Christ. Interesting.
Excuse me for the two-year late reply, sir. I just wanted to say how informative and insightful your comment was, and it's probably my favorite comment on any of my videos! Thanks for your input. God bless.
Michael W. Drwiega Excellent message in the lyrics
The chorus of this song has been in my head for days! I don't remember how I know this song but I finally had to google it and was so happy to find the tune as I remembered it and more of the words. I suspect the Lord has a reason for me to have this song in my spirit but I'm not sure what it is yet. Thanks so much for having this posted on utube. I also enjoyed the comments from Mr.. Dweriga (sp).

@Michael W Drwiega, you should've stopped after the first paragraph. The second just "muddied" your message.
Be strong! Still listening this year 2024!
I am 64 and have known this song for 50 years, through mountains and deep valleys. This song comes to mind often and helps me stand in God's promises. My 17 y/o grandson recently committed suicide. Oh how I wish I had taught him this song! This truth! Satan tries to tear down and destroy but God has the Victory and strengthens us to do battle with him as our guide. Amen!
November 2023
I have been listening to this song for years now. Every time I am in the heat of battle, I run to it and play it over and over. What strength it gives to a weakened heart!
We sang this at church yesterday, and I awoke in the night with it in my my mind. I couldn't remember all the words, so I got up to find them, and the Lord led me to this video. How it ministered to my soul, along with the comments of brothers and sisters! I am going through the darkest valley of my 61 year life, and God used you, Sara Grace, to comfort and encourage me. Thank you!
I serve with a Bible translation organization and when I was serving in Papua New Guiena we had a period of time where it seemed as if the work would come to a stop completely due to unrest and spiritual opposition. A music teacher from the USA came to our mission center for a short time and he used this song as a song for a missionary men's chorus during one of our worship serices. It was a HUGE encouragement to every missionary that day to stay the course. I have since used this video in multiple adult Sunday school classes and it is always well received!!! Thanks for sharing this because each time I hear it it has been a great encouragement to me.
this hymn makes me cry, i love it so much. be strong in the Lord! 💖💪
The Maranatha Baptist Symphony Band were singing this acapella as they were setting up to perform...it just lifted everyone up! Thanks for sharing this!!
Im glad I found a Christian video that isnt full of dislikes and athiests swearing at us. Its great.
Amen we need to be strong in the Lord in times like these for the victory is the Lord's
Thank you for this uncompromising Christian music....
Thank you for this hymn that started my day this morning! Many blessings!❤🙏
AMEN! & AMEN! To this song . Such power . I'll be singing this as a solo in church in May .
Deuteronomy 31:6 “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”
Amen, may the Lord richly bless you Ms. Sara Grace!
A song from my past; today i thought of it and it is just the encouragement i need for today. Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus. Thank you so much, this song will be played over and over again. WHAT AN ENCOURAGEMENT.
Thank you for this posting. Heard this as a solo in Church today. I had not heard it in many years but God brought it to my memory. It is so beautiful Blessings!!
The last time I heard this song was on Family Radio. My mom enjoyed the scripture reading and music. She went home suddenly in January. I miss her.
Sorry about your loss😔 may God bless you, keep you and guide you in the right path, that on resurrection morning, you and your mom will be together again, according to God's will.
My Mom used to listen to Family Radio, too.. from the 1970s thru the 1990s. She went Home to Jesus last May 2019. I miss my Mom, too, but I know I'll see her again in heaven, maybe sooner rather than later. I'm SO glad she missed 2020.
This is a great song of encouragement and victory in Jesus. I will teach it to our choir and add it to our repertoire - powerful ministry. I just shared it with my friends who had a terrible car accident and came out unhurt. Thanks for this beautiful song.
Thank you for your post from last year. I am Linda Lee Johnson's husband of 48 years and remember when she was gifted with the lyrics from our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ . . . there is a great story attached to this gift that I thought you would enjoy . . .
In Gracia Burnham's book "In the Presence of My Enemies" about the kidnapping of American missionaries and their year of terror in the Philippine jungle . . . the Sunday before their kidnapping, she heard "Be Strong in the Lord" for the first time and remembered the chorus . . . she sang it to her husband . . . the story is on page 15 of her book . . . very touching story . . . her husband was killed during their rescue . . . great book . . . google Gracia Burnham to learn more of their story . . . I continue to be amazed how God continues to use each of us . . .
BTW, I retired and my retired email is MrLindaLeeJohnson@gmail.com . . . unless it is Christian education (I served for 42 years at Redwood Christian Schools in Castro Valley, the last 30 as
Superintendent), everyone knows Linda rather than me . . . very proud to be Mr. Linda Lee Johnson!
Blessings!
My Bride is the lyricist and Tom Fettke wrote the music . . . but alll the real credit goes to our Heavenly Father :-)
Such a comforting message in the song. Just what I needed to hear today. Thanks much.
A good friend of the family sang this song @ my grandmothers Funeral this month....It was the 1st time I ever heard this song & I will FOREVER remember it & play it when I get sad thinking of my grandmother...
today, we played the video in church (Jerusalem Baptist Church in Jerusalem) as background music while we sang the song (our pianist is on holiday). Everyone was blessed by this beautiful version! Thank you for uploading.
We sang this in 4 parts at both my great grandparent's funeral and my grandparents' 50th wedding anniversary. Apparently it goes back much further than that in my paternal grandmother's family - but I have no memories of the earlier events.
Thank you for sharing. I sang this with a choir a looonnng time ago and have wanted to hear it again. Thank you.
What an amazing song. Thanks for posting it. At this time of Covid-19 It proves to be very inspirational.
good
What wonderful, faith- inspiring words- needed in this present time!
I've sung this song in choir years ago, and it was so uplifting then. I've been looking on TH-cam for a good recording of this to listen to. So, thank you! Wonderfully sung!
Thanks for this, I am going to be playing in my Church Band, and this was a great reference for one of the songs for our Sunday service! Thanks
Thank you for this music piece, it has become my daily meditation song. It has further brought more meaning to me when I used it as an entry piece to our church community quartet competition acapella style and bagged the title as winning team for the North America Eastern region conference.
This song, very strengthened my faith in Him and stands forever with hymn songs. Baptist Church very emphasize the hymn songs. Not like contemporary songs that do not have a deep meaning and reflection for His glory and majesty.
this song entertains me much to be strong when tussles, struggles come Thank God to give all the listeners strengths🙏🏻
Pray for my mom. In hospital from facial reconstruction surgery due to cancer. She said she's singing this song in her head to herself. Thank you!

This song is so uplifting--really important for those of watching rivers rise around Houston and in Brazoria County, Texas, this week. I hope I can sing it with confidence and strength if I have to call for a rescue boat!
Did you have flooding?

Hi Walt @@trentonward6968
Don't know who the female is here singing a solo part, but wow, what a voice.
May God help us to live the Words of this song
This was sung at my wedding 12 yrs ago
That's what a modern day Christian praise song should be like! Litmus test: if the Lord won't allow it to be sung in heaven, then it shouldn't be sung on earth: look at 'The Lord's Prayer.'
I like this song...God bless us all
I love this song ♥️

Be strong in the lord togod be the glory
Be strong in the Lord
"Exhort one another while it is called today..."
Be Strong in the Lord is based in Ephesians 6:10-13 by Linda Lee Johnson and Tom Fettke.
I actually sang in a chorus under Mr. Fettke's direction back in the early 1980s. It was an incredible experience!
He is SUCH a talented & gifted composer & choral director. I wonder what else he has composed?
@@rebekahv5185 Him and Linda Lee Johnson also wrote the "Majesty and Glory of Your Name", a beautiful choir piece.
@@ILoveOldTWC, oh, RIGHT! I remember that song! Yes, beautiful music as well as lyrics.
@qmircea
I am trying to track down the orchestra and parts as well. Looks like rental at one stage and out of print. I learnt of this one back in 1991 during a trip to Canada. Am planning to do it with orchestra back in 2 years time.
Love Gods word in song form :-)
A very nice video, Sara. Thank you for yor Christian witness. Am I understanding correctly from your profile that you are 12 years of age. If so, then I am impressed with your level of work. Thanks!
I LIKE THIS
Amen !
syllable compast''
Be strong in the Lord and be of good courage
Your defender is He who will be always the same
Mount up with wings, as the eagle ascending
Victory is sure when you call on His name
Be strong, be strong, be strong in the Lord
And be of good courage, for He is your guide
Be strong, be strong, be strong in the Lord
And rejoice for the victory is yours
Put on the armor the Lord has provided
Place your defense in His unfailing care
Trust Him for He will be with you in battle
Lighting your path to avoid every snare
Be strong, be strong, be strong in the Lord
And be of good courage, for He is your guide
Be strong, be strong, be strong in the Lord
And rejoice for the victory is yours
Be strong in the Lord, and be of good courage
Your mighty commander will vanquish the foe
Fear not the battle for the victory is always His
He will protect you wherever you go
Be strong, be strong, be strong in the Lord
And be of good courage, for He is your guide
Be strong, be strong, be strong in the Lord
And rejoice for the victory is yours
Be strong, be strong, be strong in the Lord
And rejoice for the victory is yours
Be strong!!
Amen

The book of common worship
Love this song🤍🤍....... which choir sang it?
Any chance the orchestration is recorded and available for sale? I would love to do sing it with my church choir here in Romania using the orchestration (but have no orchestra).
Do you mean who wrote it? Words: Linda Lee Johnson 1947- , Music: Tom Fettke 1941-
Wow!
Good
Which album can I find this variant of this song? Thanks in advance for the information.
❤
This song and so many others by Ron Hamilton and Majesty Music are just tremendous. What a blessing. I went to the evening service at Faith Baptist Church on 5/3/2015 - that may mean something to those of you who are quite familiar with Ron Hamilton's music. Tim Fisher is the Minister of Music. Frank Garlock plays in the orchestra.
That is so cool! I'm glad you found this to be a blessing. God bless you.
+Jim Dubya Just to be clear, this song was written by Linda Lee Johnson (lyrics) and Tom Fettke (music), and published by Hope Publishing Co. Ron Hamilton, Frank Garlock and Majesty Music had nothing to do with it.
+Michael Branson You are correct. Please forgive me for my incorrect assumption about this song. I stand by everything else I said about Ron Hamilton and the ministry of Majesty Music.
No, but I wish I had now.
Don't give credit where it's not due. The senior adult choir at my southern baptist church sang this one. If the people you claim wrote this, they wouldn't have.
👍
Hello! Sara, what choir/recording is this?? I'd like to have our church sing this song and play the recording as an "introduction" to learning it. But, I believe we'd need to get permission or purchase it to play/stream it...
