I have a 1969 Firebird 400 with a 4 speed and factory AC, numbers matching. I looked it up and from what I read, the hood tach could be had from the factory on a GTO and a Trans Am for 1969, but all other models, the hood tach was a dealer installed option. The hood tach does add a lot to the looks of the car and I love that blue. Mine is Midnight Green, which I stayed with. I'm having mine restified, but can't afford a full on restoration. Mine didn't have the hood tach, but I'm adding a correct repop one. Gorgeous car! Thanks for the video!
This is my favorite car of all time. I owned a 68 GTO convert in my early 20s and worked with a guy who owned a 69 400 Fbird. It was way faster than my GTO, handled better, looked better, stopped better and wasn't as much of a lead sled. The non-ac 69 firebird v8 weighs 3,350 compared to my 68 converts 3825 lbs. (475 lbs less with the same engine). I'm looking to buy a '69 Fbird next year.
My uncle had this car, I remember him driving me around our little town in it when I was a youngster. I loved everything about it. If I had money this would be my reckless nostalgia purchase. That and a 1970 yellow vw beetle which my other uncle had and I also rode around in!
Bought a 69 Firebird on my 21st birthday in June 1971 in Lawton, OK. Had been back from Nam about 4 months! Went to shop for a hot rod and fell in live with the 69 bird, 400 - 4 speed, with hood scoops, gold with black vinyl top. It was $1800.00 with 16000 miles on it. Went to do the paperwork and salesman looked at my license and said I wasn't old enough to buy it. I was 20 and it was 3 weeks till I would be 21. Said he couldn't hold it but would put in on back line.WHEW! Finally got it!!
Although this is 10 years old I think it's one of the very few examples of a Windward Blue metallic Pontiac of any model. Very high poly or metallic with a blue/green look depending on the light and angle. A very modern color! Special stuff. As usual a 400 with a manual transmission and no console is awesome too. Thanks for sharing this video
Excellent. I weep when I think of my ol' '70 LeMans, and '67 Firebird 400. I miss that specific Pontiac V8 gurgle. High praise for all of your car videos. These are very detailed, very informative, and clearly projected. Thanks a bunch!
My very first "brand new" car was a Pontiac Firebird 400 in the metallic blue color and the 4-speed. Only difference was I had a black vinyl roof on mine. Loved the hood tach and all that power. topped out at 145mph one time - hey i was young and fearless. Loved it and regret getting rid of it after only 3 years.
not sure if anyone gives a shit but if you guys are bored like me during the covid times then you can stream all the new movies on InstaFlixxer. Have been watching with my gf these days :)
+Joel Boisvert the pontiac has more attention to detail and in this generation the pontiac 400 is much quicker than the chevy 350 that came in the SS...even up in the 3rd and 4th gen the pontiac has a much nicer interior with its lumbar equipped racing style seats and hot rod style gauges...the camaro is too plain but the pontiac is HOT!
I know this video is old but I just wanted to thank you for making it, 2 years ago I saw this video and thought I'm gonna own one of those one day and 2 weeks ago I bought myself a 69 firebird 400 4 speed in windward blue almost the same color, I love it and I'm living the dream now thanks to your video, the only thing it doesn't have is the hood mounted tach, but I'm to scared to drill the holes in the hood so I'll just go without lol
Motor sounds good, almost no roughness in the idle, good balance. My 350 dyno at 320hp after increasing the bore and better pistons. That and a 4bbl and that dude will smoke the safe T Trac. 3.23 gears. Sweet. Now my 69 GTO? Get on back now! Ram Air 3, HP unknown but reported at over 350. I put it in my 79 4-Mula and it was unbeatable here. I went 25-0 with many blown away. It had a Turbo 400 I put a Fairbanks shift kit, Hurst Dual Gate and 370 gears. Had to shorten the shaft so I added Pronto U Joints. I could bark mean at 10 mph. I threw the shaft slapping to 3rd on night. Destroyed the Ujoint coupling. Torque!
It definitely is a slick looking car. Believe me, there is plenty more power to use in that baby...he was definitely taking it easy. Thanks for watching, Greg.
You by chance remember "Two-Laned Blacktop" with Dennis Wilson, Warren Oates and James Taylor from 1971? I feel old, dayum! I am old. lol. Nothing like the late 60's & early 70's, probably before your time? 8-)
An other proffesional walk around buddy !! Man you sure do know your way around these nice oldtimers.... Iff you wanne do a job better do it right eh Jeff ?? LOL. Ceep'm coming !!
The only real reason to keep a four speed is for purity. Modern 5 or 6 speeds usually offer you an overdrive gear or two, which lowers rpm's on the highway and gives you better mileage. They often have better gear ratios for performance as well. For those reasons, it's becoming more common for people to swap them into old muscle cars.
I'm currently watching Mecum auto auctions on tv and love the late 60's to early 70's Pontiacs..particularly the GTO (ranging from 1966-1972) but after seeing a gold painted hardtop Firebird and watching this I'm starting to lean more towards this gem. To me it's similar to a Camero but better as it's from the Pontiac line for whatever that is worth.
I thought for sure there would have been some car movie centered around the 69 Firebird, but don't remember any titles, or find any googling it. Perhaps it was a co-star car? I thought initially Barry Newman drove one into a Caterpillar road block, but that was a Barracuda. Love them old muscle car flicks.
My dad tells me how he got ahold of s 69 firebird from this old guy back when he was a teenager. He's 42 now. He says had a ram air 5 and only 3 gears Hurst and a turbo something transmission. Honestly I forgot. Point of the story. The car went from point A to point B fast as balls. oh and also I remember him saying something about lead and the engine for protection. Not sure if he put some in the engine or literely inside the engine lol but it had something to do with the engine prone to blowing up when used for racing.
Should do this for most of the cars you do! If you can, work in a test drive with new videos, I'd really appreciate it or at least start em up... Thank you.
That’s that BS GTO hood from Ames. Good hood but any 350 could use it to have a clone. Great color and paint. Mine got a 455 to replace the numbers 350. It’s all new and on display.
high school i drove a 1967 326 Firebird with a 3 speed in the floor..... great car but too small to make-out in.....then again where there's a will, there's a way

These Firebirds are finally getting their proper due, just took 40 years....
I'm glad you like it. Thanks for taking a look!
When I was a youngster my mom drove this car as a daily driver. Never forget it. would love to have one just for nostalgia sake

This car is mint... I want one in black one day before I die...

Finally a pontiac firebird! Thanks man! Been waiting for this
not sure if anyone gives a shit but if you guys are bored like me during the covid times then you can stream all the new movies on InstaFlixxer. Have been watching with my gf these days :)
I agree, they are great looking cars.
Wow, that's a pretty cool Dad you have. Congrats!
It's hard to believe, but I don't remember one featuring a 69 either. I'm with you, anything with muscle cars and car chases and I'm interested.
I can’t wait til I get mine running
This one definitely has all the options you'd want...400, four-speed, hood mounted tach...it's just too cool.
The paint looked incredible on that car. The polish was very well done. The ride along was great. Felt like it wanted to scratch into third.
I'll take a look at the next one I see. Thanks for watching!
Beautiful classic thanks for sharing this
im in the process of restoring one myself! should have it restored by summer :] i always watch this video to get myself excited about finishing it!
In high school, a guy took me for a run in his 400 4 speed Firebird. Reminded me of my ride in a hemi Challenger
Which car was faster?
Chevy can keep their Camaro I'm buying a firebird lol.
Anthony Baker you know the Camaro and Firebird were the same car right? just different engines and slightly different body panels.
@@EvilElmo81395 Firebird is a classier car but the camaro is pretty good looking car.
It's a thing of rare beauty. Modern cars absolutely suck compared to this classic of craftmanship and engineering.
I hope you had a great Fourth too, thanks for watching!

I wish my dad still had his he tells me stories about it all the time
They looked great straight from the factory, they don't need to be messed with. Glad you like it...thanks for watching!
Thanks for watching. I hope you're having a great weekend too!

You do a good demonstration in your videos imno.
Thanks, I appreciate you watching!
I'm glad you like the videos. Thank you very much for watching!
Always wanted a firebird
It definitely is a slick looking car. Believe me, there is plenty more power to use in that baby...he was definitely taking it easy. Thanks for watching, Greg.
You're right, it was very sad to see a lot of the great brands come to an end. I still can believe they killed off Pontiac.
Fine lookin' specimen there!! ya can really see the deep metallic when you showed the 400 badge on the trunk!! good stuff Buddy!!☺
that is how I like them. No fancy aftermarket crap. ORIGINAL LOOK. Thanks
I owned one in mid 80s ..looking to buy another just like this one ..always wanted the the 400 4sp beautiful car !!

no problem man! I've been watching and sharing your videos like every other day! there's no bigger passion of mine than classic american muscle cars!
Thanks for watching!
I would take just about any TA. Thanks for watching!
You by chance remember "Two-Laned Blacktop" with Dennis Wilson, Warren Oates and James Taylor from 1971? I feel old, dayum! I am old. lol. Nothing like the late 60's & early 70's, probably before your time? 8-)
i saw a '77 TA the other day. very nice cars!!
Glad you like it.....thanks for watching!
Thanks for watching Jos, I appreciate it!
Nice car. I own a 69 Firebird 400 (w/455). Noticed the seats are deluxe and the door panels are standard.
love that v8 rumble
These are one of the best-looking muscle cars ever made in my opinion. They look like a cross between Camaro and GTO
That sure is one slick Firebird ! Not exceclley my color but that metalflack sure looked nice. And the enginebay was awesome.....
Beautiful car
An other proffesional walk around buddy !! Man you sure do know your way around these nice oldtimers....
Iff you wanne do a job better do it right eh Jeff ?? LOL.
Ceep'm coming !!

Absolutely stunning 69!!
Gorgeous looking car's one of my favourite Car's this Would be My Dream machine
I feel the same way. If I'm ever seriously wealthy, that place is gonna love me.
Kind of an off key question but how do you like the classic four speeds as compared to a modern 5 or 6 speed?
Beautiful, thanks for sharing. May I ask a dumb question? Is the engine rebuilt, or just a low mileage 1969 400? Thanks.

Had one dame same color, black vinyl top and interior, 350HO 3 spd manual, 3.55s. It read 140 on the speedo a couple of times.
J'adore le marque Pontiac. Superb cars mark. And I lovely muts Firebird ! When's for the new Firebird ? really !
The things I would do for this car
IHad A 350 auto with vinal seats burreled wood ran just fine loved that one beautiful
I've been trying to drive more lately. Sometimes I'm unable to because of lack of time...or because of weather.
That is a beauty.

very cool car!
I've ridden in one just like that and i feel myself lucky not to have been killed that day....Close call at 140 miles per hour.

Very Nice!!
I'm not sure what that was, but it sure sounded mean.
i wish i could get my thunderbird looking sweet like that
You guys are in my home state. so do you guys sell classic cars? I'm sure you do for making a video right?
MANNNNNNNNNNNNNN id kill for one of these lol
Nice very nice!!
I had a 69 with a 350 and like this one did not have spoilers , which I believe were necessary when it rose above 100 mph
love your vids!
I would rather have that instead of a camaro That was a good year for muscle cars
nice
Should do this for most of the cars you do! If you can, work in a test drive with new videos, I'd really appreciate it or at least start em up... Thank you.
