The hair style change between “fluffy” and “spiked” was a change implemented by Toriyama to give his art style some more detail. Though, you could also argue that after having gained control over the transformation in the time chamber that Goku’s hair had become more refined and less wild as a result of his better ki control.
For the longest time, I thought the detailed look, was just a stylistic change, I didn't know until someone made a video on it a few years ago, that it was a mastered transformation form.
That's how his hair was in the Manga and anime when he first turned super sayian then it looked fluffy again when him and his son walked out the hyperbolic time chamber... now goku never has the fluffy afro look and I love that better needs to go back to that

Another cool detail is when using Goku (Mid) in his yardrat uniform, when he transforms into a SSJ, his outfit also changes colour just like how it did in the anime. So his base form pants go from a dark orange red, to a bright orange. It's one of my favourite details about the game :D
I loved the What If story fights in this game. Devilman just owning Mecha Frieza and Cold easily was hilarious. And Eighter fighting 16. The androids who should have met and became friends.

1:52 I believe the detail here was when SSJ was introduced for the first time in the series, not much detail went into the yellow hair and it looked rather fluffy. But then got the detail it needed later. I guess the game even tried to capture this distinction as well truly amazing, BT3 is god tier.

I think it was mentioned that "High class Saiyans" can control themselves in the Great Ape form. So Nappa, Vegeta and King Vegeta remain conscious, while the lower class ones don't. More than power levels or potential, it seems it's a genetic thing.

I hope Tenkaichi 4's story mode will be like BT3 but more fleshed out. I love all the secrets in it and how you're allowed to die in some fights while still being able to win and get an alternate ending if you're good enough. Makes it worth playing through the levels over and over again.

I don’t see why it shouldn’t, some time passed and he isn’t allowed to use older moves? By that logic he shouldn’t be allowed to use Kamehameha, solar flare, spirit bomb, kaioken because he didn’t it in a saga already
I got one, if you play with Future Gohan, you will notice he only use one arm for all attacs, thats because despite the model when he has 2 arms, the character have only 1 arm in anime and manga

@@kadazee DBZ Sagas is the only game (That I know of) where Future Gohan lacks an arm, although there is another version of him with an arm in that game.
He does actually use both arms if you grab with him or perform very specific movesets. It's just low enough to reference his unfortunate fate, but he keeps enough to distinguish the fact that he did fight at his best with both arms and had both in the TV special as is starting off.
I love some of the quotes when you beat a boss as a different character, like if you beat third form Frieza with Piccolo he'll talk about how it feels to defend his homeland
FighterZ is pretty loved I assume, since they added things that are of not necessary but makes the game more fun. I don't even like that game but I admit that.

This is why I loved Tenkaichi 3, especially the detail of the fluffy hair SSJ look from Namek/Android saga, no other DB game I’ve played has added that detail and was my personal favorite look for Super Saiyan. For the GT Goku solar flare, I always thought it was an error and that he was saying Kaioken the way the English dub used to say it in original Z anime. I hope this masterpiece gets a remaster someday or even better an official Tenkaichi 4 because the mod shows how amazing it would’ve been
Raging Blast and Ultimate Tenkaichi also changed his SSJ hair in pre Cell Games outfits, though the latter only changed the shape slightly. Yeah, a remaster would be awesome, I'm surprised Bamco hasn't made one yet (too busy with FighterZ and XenoVerse I guess). If they updated the roster to include Super characters and transformations it would be fucking legendary!

According to the Daizenshuu, Mr Satan's power level is 240. which is near Goku and Piccolo's near the end of the original dragon ball. So canonically a saibaman just like in the video wouldn't even react to his punches. Still, 240 for a human who doesn't know anything about ki control is insanely impressive.
Yeah, Mr Satan is insanely strong for a normal human, most people just don't notice because... Well, most characters in DBZ can destroy a planet at minimum, he would be a very powerful character in Street Fighter, King Of Fighter or Tekken.
The dainzenshu says so many ridiculous stuff I would not take it as serious. Mr Satan acts like he’s just as strong or weaker than goku at the very beginning of the manga (meaning a very strong normal adult person who can win a tournament when there’s no Jackie Chun to stop you). Immagine how many absurd things Goku did before the piccolo Saga, Mr satan is hilarious but he would never be able to take on an army. Goku against both Piccolo and his father could survive a blast capable of destroying a whole town whereas Mr satan hurts himself while breaking slabs with a karate move. Goku was able to swim entire oceans and jump way over 100 meters and mr satan uses a car and a jet pack. Do I have to go on?

He can canonically move roughly 20 tons per arm and punch through solid steel (that's actually even more than 20 tons) looking it up, it requires about the same amount of pressure. He is a legitimate world champion...but funny thing, he's never actually asked himself what he is or isn't capable of and instead assumes the worst when he sees someone stronger than himself.
the reason his hair is “fluffy” during the frieza saga is because it was his 1st time transforming into a super saiyan, which was a sign of him first developing that hair, so later in the series, he was able to form a more solid hairstyle along with his power 😂
I honestly love that detail, especially since it makes it easier to tell apart Goku if you're using Namek Saga Goku and Cell/Buu Saga Goku for a what-if fight where they only use SS1.
It's not that it does not make sense for him to use, but it makes more sense if early Goku used it instead of mid Goku. I guess it also doesn't make sense that the move is called meteor combination since it looked different I guess.

Part 3 bro! The Nail ending and Pan I really didn't know about After all this years of playing man who expected that There are some special conversations also between characters like Future Trunks and Meca Frieza or King Cold even in their winning pose
In THIS game, I took NOTHING for granted. I loved the heck out of it and played for days on end. These details were noticeable back then and it was a proud moment to see them.
The fluffy hair accurately mimicks the anime. It definitely was illustrated different throughout the progression of the series. For the video game developers to recognize and implement it in, is really cool.
This game has so much effort put into it, even though everyone just says the movesets are copy&paste. There's so many hidden mechanics and special characteristics in the game as well for characters.
This is one of the only games that made me feel absolutely epic when I went SSJ3 or 4. Their stances chances to one of confidence, their combos are fast and stylish, their special attacks are brutal, and well... they look as cool as any DB character would look. Also, I loved how closely emulated the fighting system was to the show. This was truly an unforgettable experience. It set the bar the highest for DB IMO. FighterZ, XV2 and Kakarot are amazing for sure, but Tenkaichi 3 takes the cake for me. If they lost the IP and can't remaster it, then in my opinion a *remake* is in order. And they might as well add the ability to do real-time 3v3 fights like the PSP version. If they do that we'd have the game that would match the DBZ/S experience the most.
The great ape details is kinda funny when you think about it because all the one’s who can’t control it are registered as low-class saiyans so maybe that’s why
I believe that characters that have scouters will use them in their searching animation when looking around for the enemy when they lose sight of them. I remember seeing it happen in a video with bardock
@@markus3840 As someone who has over 3000 hours in both games i can answer that. Yes they do, they are using theyr scouter and can find you even if you hide or create a huge distance. After the scouters are destroyed, they search like all the others. That includes the search animation who also changes to the regular one. Destroying the scouters is either done by bringing the enemy below 20k health and smacking them on the ground in BT2 or by using the ultimate move who destroys clothes and gear. But not all characters in BT3 have such a move.
yes, it was a detail in all tenkaichi games. it's specific to scouter characters. They have one of the fastest search times but when they take battle damage, they lose the ability to search for invisible things and have to rely on sight
@@andylaw3222 im pretty sure if the scouter is destroyed, their ability to lock on becomes worse than characters who can naturally sense ki. i think its somewhere in the ultimate training menu but dont remember

I remember when I was *SO HAPPY* to see the Full Power Super Saiyan/Super Saiyan Grade 4 hair on Goku’s Saiyan Armor Super Saiyan costume a year or two ago, as I LOVED that appearance of Goku, and I GREATLY appreciated that HUGE attention to that extra detail by the devs taking the time to model the hair for that specific costume!
Nappa maintaining control in Oozaru form makes sense cause he was an elite and Vegeta mentions that elite saiyan warriors were able to maintain control of it
Watching your videos only points out how much of a fan I am to Dragon Ball. When I got the Tenkaichi games as a kid, I knew EVERY single details that you would go on to mention in this and the previous videos. Dragon Ball is still my favorite anime/manga series to this day.
1:30 Well actually that is Goku from Namek and Android Saga (before the Cell Games), and I see this like a cool detail because there is a part where Goku trains with Piccolo and Gohan. I like to think they put this move on that Goku because of this training
And this is one of many reasons why the older games were so much better than the newer ones in my honest opinion. There aren't many little easter eggs/details like this in modern DB games. I've always loved the Fluffy look. Goku Trunks and Vegeta, all had the look. I wish all first form super saiyans, have that fluffy design. Then when they increase their levels to 2, 3 and so on, the hair should be more detailed and spikey. It would really show the differences between the forms, especially for characters like vegeta, who's hair doesn't really change its shape.

Well there is also a small detail regarding Arale as a gag character as she can cause high damage to giants and broly and also make them flinch, when even as ssj2 characters can't hurt them (excluding ssj2 teen Gohan another great detail that he was the strongest dominating character during his arc).
I noticed the same fluffy hair thing in Raging Blast though. Always wondered why they didn’t do that for Vegeta and Trunks, their ssj hairstyles were also different when they first appeared. Even Gohan really. Nobody had all those crazy shards, just flowing long hair.
My favorite detail involves Devilman’s ultimate blast where the more evil your opponent the more damage it does whereas characters that are pure of heart take no damage.
The Budokai Tenkaichi series was so amazing! I still have a copy of BT3 for my PS2. Back in right after high school/pre college (I took like 6 months off between) I'd be at my buddies house every day playing this for hours in vs mode
There’s also a secret fight in the Kid Goku vs King Piccolo fight if you beat him without pressing R3 the second time. You’ll play as Chi-Chi vs Tamborine. He has super armor.
I never would've found out about Nail coming to help against Recoome in a million years, or any of those other alternate endings. Those are SUPER cool finds. I might do a video later of myself beating them.
Haven't tested it too much, but I remember a long time ago when I lost a beam battle as a great ape and my health hit 0 there was a giant hole in me. Not sure if it is with all characters, giant characters, or also works with ultimate attacks, but it was very interesting when it happened to me in a world tournament.
What do you mean a giant hole? Like an actual gaping hole in the 3D model? Otherwise, if it's just a texture, it likely was just the character's battle-damaged appearance. That happens when you lose a beam struggle, just like when you get cutscened or bullseyed with an ult
@@doom149, it does not just appear though when you loss a beam battle and survive I don't think because I have lost a beam struggle as a giant ape before and that did not happen. It was literally a hole you could see through and I actually died from it. I don't have quick access to the game myself but I would definitely try it again to make sure I am not crazy or something. Either way, if I am correct, a giant hole inside of Great Ape Vegeta is not normal battle damage.

there's 3 other alternative endings for story mode the first two are in the buu saga first one is if you beat majin vegeta without pressing the prompt to advance the story you fight dabura, and if you beat buu after the first first button prompt and ignoring the second prompt you fight badadi and the 3rd one is in the dragon ball saga is if you beat demon king piccolo after pressing the first prompt and ignoring the second prompt you fight tambourine as chi-chi
In the Frieza saga when you're fighting the z-figthers as Frieza normally when you're in Frieza's 3rd form and fighting Gohan when you hit the prompt you fight Vegeta and final form Frieza but ignore the prompt and beat Gohan you actually fight Vegeta as 3rd form Frieza and in the Cell Saga with Goku's and Cell's battle if you get Goku's health low enough and you love the crash struggle with cell and press the prompt (if Goku wins and you press the prompt Goku will do super wave volley) Cell does a Super Kamehameha and KOs Goku and you fight Cell as Hercule

This is why I loved Tenkaichi 3, especially the detail of the fluffy hair SSJ look from Namek/Android saga, no other DB game I’ve played has added that detail and was my personal favorite look for Super Saiyan. For the GT Goku solar flare, I always thought it was an error and that he was saying Kaioken the way the English dub used to say it in original Z anime. I hope this masterpiece gets a remaster someday or even better an official Tenkaichi 4 because the mod shows how amazing it would’ve been
Raging Blast and Ultimate Tenkaichi also changed his SSJ hair in pre Cell Games outfits, though the latter only changed the shape slightly.
Yeah, a remaster would be awesome, I'm surprised Bamco hasn't made one yet (too busy with FighterZ and XenoVerse I guess). If they updated the roster to include Super characters and transformations it would be fucking legendary!

According to the Daizenshuu, Mr Satan's power level is 240. which is near Goku and Piccolo's near the end of the original dragon ball. So canonically a saibaman just like in the video wouldn't even react to his punches. Still, 240 for a human who doesn't know anything about ki control is insanely impressive.
Yeah, Mr Satan is insanely strong for a normal human, most people just don't notice because... Well, most characters in DBZ can destroy a planet at minimum, he would be a very powerful character in Street Fighter, King Of Fighter or Tekken.
The dainzenshu says so many ridiculous stuff I would not take it as serious. Mr Satan acts like he’s just as strong or weaker than goku at the very beginning of the manga (meaning a very strong normal adult person who can win a tournament when there’s no Jackie Chun to stop you).
Immagine how many absurd things Goku did before the piccolo Saga, Mr satan is hilarious but he would never be able to take on an army.
Goku against both Piccolo and his father could survive a blast capable of destroying a whole town whereas Mr satan hurts himself while breaking slabs with a karate move. Goku was able to swim entire oceans and jump way over 100 meters and mr satan uses a car and a jet pack. Do I have to go on?

@@robertst.pierre1341 that’s completely irrelevant, if two people have the same power level and therefore the same abilities then they should be able to do the same things, Krillin is a human as well but he can keep up with Goku for most of the first series while Mr Satan obviously could not.
@@edwardsuou actually, wasn't it pointed out in one of the games that no teacher would take Hercule because he was completely arrogant and self-centered? He can canonically move roughly 20 tons per arm and punch through solid steel (that's actually even more than 20 tons) looking it up, it requires about the same amount of pressure. He is a legitimate world champion...but funny thing, he's never actually asked himself what he is or isn't capable of and instead assumes the worst when he sees someone stronger than himself.
I remember playing this so much back in the days, and its incredible how im still discovering new things about it, the attention to detail was insane!
the reason his hair is “fluffy” during the frieza saga is because it was his 1st time transforming into a super saiyan, which was a sign of him first developing that hair, so later in the series, he was able to form a more solid hairstyle along with his power 😂
Yea, that's the same way I saw it.
His hair became more spiky when he mastered the super saiyan form by the end of Cell Saga.
I honestly love that detail, especially since it makes it easier to tell apart Goku if you're using Namek Saga Goku and Cell/Buu Saga Goku for a what-if fight where they only use SS1.

It is because he use it... In an anime only scene againts Freeza. That's why.
It's not that it does not make sense for him to use, but it makes more sense if early Goku used it instead of mid Goku. I guess it also doesn't make sense that the move is called meteor combination since it looked different I guess.

It's crazy how this is stuff we took for granted when we were young and playing the game but now it seems like an impressive Easter egg
In THIS game, I took NOTHING for granted. I loved the heck out of it and played for days on end. These details were noticeable back then and it was a proud moment to see them.
The fluffy hair accurately mimicks the anime. It definitely was illustrated different throughout the progression of the series. For the video game developers to recognize and implement it in, is really cool.
This game has so much effort put into it, even though everyone just says the movesets are copy&paste. There's so many hidden mechanics and special characteristics in the game as well for characters.

This is one of the only games that made me feel absolutely epic when I went SSJ3 or 4. Their stances chances to one of confidence, their combos are fast and stylish, their special attacks are brutal, and well... they look as cool as any DB character would look. Also, I loved how closely emulated the fighting system was to the show. This was truly an unforgettable experience. It set the bar the highest for DB IMO. FighterZ, XV2 and Kakarot are amazing for sure, but Tenkaichi 3 takes the cake for me.
If they lost the IP and can't remaster it, then in my opinion a *remake* is in order. And they might as well add the ability to do real-time 3v3 fights like the PSP version. If they do that we'd have the game that would match the DBZ/S experience the most.
The great ape details is kinda funny when you think about it because all the one’s who can’t control it are registered as low-class saiyans so maybe that’s why

I believe that characters that have scouters will use them in their searching animation when looking around for the enemy when they lose sight of them. I remember seeing it happen in a video with bardock

Yes they do, they are using theyr scouter and can find you even if you hide or create a huge distance. After the scouters are destroyed, they search like all the others. That includes the search animation who also changes to the regular one.
Destroying the scouters is either done by bringing the enemy below 20k health and smacking them on the ground in BT2 or by using the ultimate move who destroys clothes and gear. But not all characters in BT3 have such a move.
And they can see it through walls.
yes, it was a detail in all tenkaichi games. it's specific to scouter characters. They have one of the fastest search times but when they take battle damage, they lose the ability to search for invisible things and have to rely on sight
@@andylaw3222 im pretty sure if the scouter is destroyed, their ability to lock on becomes worse than characters who can naturally sense ki. i think its somewhere in the ultimate training menu but dont remember

I remember when I was *SO HAPPY* to see the Full Power Super Saiyan/Super Saiyan Grade 4 hair on Goku’s Saiyan Armor Super Saiyan costume a year or two ago, as I LOVED that appearance of Goku, and I GREATLY appreciated that HUGE attention to that extra detail by the devs taking the time to model the hair for that specific costume!

Watching your videos only points out how much of a fan I am to Dragon Ball. When I got the Tenkaichi games as a kid, I knew EVERY single details that you would go on to mention in this and the previous videos.
Dragon Ball is still my favorite anime/manga series to this day.

It is, I've heard a rumor that Xenoverse wouldn't be able to replicate BT3's gameplay mechanics due to licensing issues.
And this is one of many reasons why the older games were so much better than the newer ones in my honest opinion. There aren't many little easter eggs/details like this in modern DB games. I think that goes for most games though. Can't beat the classics! :)

I've always loved the Fluffy look. Goku Trunks and Vegeta, all had the look. I wish all first form super saiyans, have that fluffy design. Then when they increase their levels to 2, 3 and so on, the hair should be more detailed and spikey. It would really show the differences between the forms, especially for characters like vegeta, who's hair doesn't really change its shape.

Well there is also a small detail regarding Arale as a gag character as she can cause high damage to giants and broly and also make them flinch, when even as ssj2 characters can't hurt them (excluding ssj2 teen Gohan another great detail that he was the strongest dominating character during his arc).
They really didn't have to go into this much depth with small details but I'm glad they did anyway.

I noticed the same fluffy hair thing in Raging Blast though. Always wondered why they didn’t do that for Vegeta and Trunks, their ssj hairstyles were also different when they first appeared. Even Gohan really. Nobody had all those crazy shards, just flowing long hair.

Bro, I played this game for probably over 1000 hours when I was in middle school, this is still one of my favorite games.
You can actually have enemies react to Hercule's punches if you have Draconic Aura equipped.
My favorite detail involves Devilman’s ultimate blast where the more evil your opponent the more damage it does whereas characters that are pure of heart take no damage.
The Budokai Tenkaichi series was so amazing! I still have a copy of BT3 for my PS2. Back in right after high school/pre college (I took like 6 months off between) I'd be at my buddies house every day playing this for hours in vs mode

There’s also a secret fight in the Kid Goku vs King Piccolo fight if you beat him without pressing R3 the second time. You’ll play as Chi-Chi vs Tamborine. He has super armor.

Haven't tested it too much, but I remember a long time ago when I lost a beam battle as a great ape and my health hit 0 there was a giant hole in me. Not sure if it is with all characters, giant characters, or also works with ultimate attacks, but it was very interesting when it happened to me in a world tournament.
What do you mean a giant hole? Like an actual gaping hole in the 3D model? Otherwise, if it's just a texture, it likely was just the character's battle-damaged appearance. That happens when you lose a beam struggle, just like when you get cutscened or bullseyed with an ult
@@doom149, it does not just appear though when you loss a beam battle and survive I don't think because I have lost a beam struggle as a giant ape before and that did not happen. It was literally a hole you could see through and I actually died from it. I don't have quick access to the game myself but I would definitely try it again to make sure I am not crazy or something. Either way, if I am correct, a giant hole inside of Great Ape Vegeta is not normal battle damage.

there's 3 other alternative endings for story mode the first two are in the buu saga first one is if you beat majin vegeta without pressing the prompt to advance the story you fight dabura, and if you beat buu after the first first button prompt and ignoring the second prompt you fight badadi and the 3rd one is in the dragon ball saga is if you beat demon king piccolo after pressing the first prompt and ignoring the second prompt you fight tambourine as chi-chi

In the Frieza saga when you're fighting the z-figthers as Frieza normally when you're in Frieza's 3rd form and fighting Gohan when you hit the prompt you fight Vegeta and final form Frieza but ignore the prompt and beat Gohan you actually fight Vegeta as 3rd form Frieza and in the Cell Saga with Goku's and Cell's battle if you get Goku's health low enough and you love the crash struggle with cell and press the prompt (if Goku wins and you press the prompt Goku will do super wave volley) Cell does a Super Kamehameha and KOs Goku and you fight Cell as Hercule
