I was hoping the new Commander would one-up and outperform and out-spec the RMAX 1000 and General XP. I just went and looked at and sat in a new General XP, RMAX 1000 and Maverick Sport. I cannot see why Can-Am did what they did. I might wait to see and sit in an actual "new" Commander, but it seems like now I have to decide between the RMAX and General XP.
Now we just need a commander xmr
From a BRP owner , they dropped the ball by not ditching the Visco Lok and adding Smart Lok on the XT.
Got my dealer on speed dial.
Going to wear them out until the XT-P arrives.

I have the Mavericks sport 1000r. You're going to like it. I have six or seven thousand miles on it now and it's perfection. I've used it in Death Valley and the mountains of Colorado. No overheating, never a hiccup. Maybe a little bit of a gas eater. Very comfortable for all day rides. You're going to like it.

I contacted my dealer in Stephenville, Newfoundland last fall looking for a Commander...I was told Can Am was building a new version.....yup they did.... thanks DJ at CSR be expecting another call :)
Nice walk around. Our local dealership told us they will only be getting two units in the short-term so if you want to get your hands on one you better put that money down now.
Wonder how hot the cab gets. My 2017 is a hot box down here in Florida.

Bought the new General 1000 2021. The commander 2021 is a maverick sport with a box. Try one before you buy one. Hard to see out the back,and rubbing shoulders.
If my closest Can Am dealer didn't t suck I would buy one . Nice machine .

I like, over the last decade, how suspension travel definition has changed. that shock shaft has like 4 inches of travel "15 inches" lol
Suspenssion travel has always been how much a wheel travels up and down not how much shock shaft there is....

The bed looks great but I’m not really digging the looks of the front end. I know the tech stuff needed some updates, but I like the old style front better. The old over/under bed was cool too. The new suspension and drive line is good though. Doors are definitely an upgrade! I guess when I saw this one, I thought, hey, it’s a Maverick Sport with a dump bed.

I think it was a smart move basing it on the maverick sport. Tons of great accessories that are already developed and ready to go on day one. Lots of storage and add on options, great doors, very solid platform to start from. If I hadn’t bought my sport, I’d be in line to buy an XTP

i bought a 2020 mav sport 1000R last year and man do i wish this would of been out then, id of got this instead. i do love my maverick though it works great

With everyone wanting to do their own maintenance to save some money. I would really like to see content that pertains to access ports to the fluids on these machines. Every video talks of width, clearances, travel, horsepower, and that’s ok. Let’s add more. ie, fluid changes, if I go to larger tires what do I have to do.
Like Can am says, we aren’t telling you what you’re getting, but listening to what you need.
Wish you would have shown alittle on the motor relocation, which is probably the biggest change, that the commander needed. Also on accessing the fluid ports for maintenance

@@dirttraxtv I own a 2017 Commander 800 xt, and I know that cab heat was a big one, I also realize this was probably a hurried over view, since Can am just dropped it on everyone
@@smeader5 what about the relocation? Almost every utv on the market has the motor in the back. Plus this is literally just a maverick sport with a dump bed.... "all new" commander is misleading
Love the machine and great overview. My only gripe is that Can-am half windshield. Worse design I've seen for windshields. That curved lip is right in your line of sight and obstructs the view in front of your hood.
Get a flip up windshield instead. I have a Maverick sport and it's sealed so well inside that I don't really get dirty even with a full windshield. Even the doors have seals.

We can do that for ya! Our track will be getting an overhaul this spring to make it more side by side friendly and then we will make that happen.
Over the last week I talked to several dealers across a couple states and story was the same.. “can’t get anything in.... and when we do it’s usually sold before it’s assembled”. They had orders from two months ago still “pending”.
Getting the Defender I wanted was a chore.. I can’t imagine there not being an issue getting these.
I guess it's possible, I asked the question because we have heard the same thing all over the snow/dirt industry about trouble getting product but they assured me Covid wasn't going to be an issue supplying, now demand is another story. It's possible everything will be pre sold before it hits the showroom floor.
Only thing i like about the new commander is the box. The box looks better then the General. But I did buy the general as the General 2021, simply because everything else is better on the general besides the box.
Great looking machine..with the Rmax having 125 hp I am surprised that Can am or Polaris didn’t bump up there horse power to compete..can’t wait for a shoot out..👍

What would have made this a perfect machine is fox piggy back shocks...and I know you can get em on the top model but I think they should be on this model to dominate...you don't want your weakest link on one of these machines to be your suspension

Looks like the RMAX is a PITA to change the oil and filter on. Have you seen where the engine is on the RMAX? This one looks much easier to work on.
@@Hans_P it's 4 10 mm bolts and a push pin to access the filter on the RMAX4. You can simply lift the bed on the RMAX2.

I ordered a Maverick XXC this February...won't get it until August. I'm surprised that the Commander can be delivered so easy? I'm a true CanAm beleiver and have many CanAm products but disapointed on the delivery time.
Really interested to see what competition this can give the General XP4. Gotta keep my full 4 doors

The thing i really like is it's much quieter than the Rmax or General
Commander and Rmax will be leading the pack and the ones to get that will last

Been checking these put as I'm a 2013 commander 1000x owner great machine and was great priced sxs new commander looks like it's based on maverick sport platform but yet is quite a bit more expensive xtp coming in at $29000 ??? Kinda high can am but that being said I like some of the new flavour they've added to this new machine like no trailing arms better clearance and bigger tire option where the old machine had failed
It's a Maverick with a dump box. The RMAX, General and original Commander are MUCH wider inside the body compared to this. I bet a lot of die hard Commander fans move to the Yamaha RMAX and Polaris General after they sit in this and see how small it is inside. It's not in the same class that it created anymore.
Baddest looking crossover on the market. This is one machine that would pull me away from my brand of choice. I would like to see more on ease of self maintaining....as of now...there's nothing out there that is quicker/easier than performing your own routine maintenance (oil/oil filter changes in particular) on than a cfmoto machine. However, this is by far one of Can ams nicer looking sxs's...and I love the little innovative things they are crafting into their machines. Great review as always.

Yeah but resale and reliability are far superior than cheap cf Moto brand. Couldn’t pay me to take one of those machines.

@@deadly134 a Talon? Those ugly machines? I pulled one out a month ago. Great dependability....but yet to meet up with one that goes where mine goes. I'm on my 4th cfmoto since 2018. Traded 2 in on the 2 I currently own. My dealer gave me a grand over book on each. More affordable...more stock accessories...better warranty than Honda. I'll stick with what I ride....you keep having people pull your submarine out on weekends.
I like the two seat versions more than the 4 seat I’m not a big fan of the long wheelbase with these types of machines I’d rather buy a trailing arm type machine if I’m gonna have a wheelbase that long.

It seems to be the Maverick Sport interior in every way, most of the suspension and frame as well, but way more functional with the box that tilts. More sporty than a General, but less interior room.

These walk-around vids are a lot looser than our more produced content. We get mixed comments on both. Some like the looser feel of these and don't like our production stuff, others are the opposite. Thanks for taking the time to comment and watch!

I just sold my older one and was about to get a General XP, but now I am torn. If you can do a comparison between the two it would really help a lot of us out.
checking out an XT max next week. it is a sport with dump box, but i'm ok with that.
How is the visibility over those high fenders that was one thing that pushed me to get a rzr 900 trail instead of maverick trail
Found out the 4 seat XT does NOT come with a roof... needs to be ordered. Was told its due to lack of supply. Although the price difference in the 2 seat DPS to XT is $2600 and only $2000 difference in the 4 seat, so Can-Am adjusted the pricing. So I ordered a roof. Was also told that dealer allocation fills first and by end of May. Then customer orders which would be late summer. Dealer who also sells Yamaha said better chance getting a Commander than Rmax in 2021 if you order.
I'd like to see this Commander comparison with the Sport X xc. Nothing about speed but comfort. Note the differences in terms of seating position, clutching, suspension etc. X xc has the Smart Lok and better suspension I think but are there ergonomic differences? Focus on leg room and the dead pedal, left leg space and comfort. Theses side by sides always seem tight with very little room to stretch. Also, do you feel that the seating position is upright? I prefer a more reclined seat and dislike being cramped. Thanks.

I bought a general in 2019. I didn’t like the older generation commander. If this model had of been available at the time I think I’d be driving a commander.

I wish can ams were actually reliable finally!.....never buy another one. Hell my old 2008 arctic cat thundercat 1000 is legit still running great and cannot ever be stopped even when my fckn cvt was half full of swamp water (obviously had to drain and clean it a week after) still rode back to the truck 3 hrs later lol

Number one complaint I heard yesterday. You cant put 2 bigger guys/gals in it comfortably and you cant put one bigger person and a smaller person either. They said only about 7" between the seats, General they had next to it, about 12" between the General seats.

We had this one for only a couple days while we were finishing up SnowTrax TV for the season and then had to give it back to Can-Am so we didn't get a chance to do a full review. We expect to get our hands on one soon though and it will likely be in one of the first few episodes of the season.

I owned an older 4 seat Commander. The engine was between the rear seats but I still hated the engine noise. It has a great utility bed though. Now they have the engine in the back which probably helps the noise but now the bed is at a ridiculous tall height so they now ruined that functionality. Seems they botched a good opportunity. 🤷

Looks good with nice features. But 30”s should be on it.
Its so clear this is a maverick with a box on the rear... which is ok.. but its so obvious. A-arms are t shaped in rear upper... bushings are gonna be a regular replacement item
