Great video Chuck. I haven't jumped on the Meshtastic bandwagon yet but watching with interest ;)

I've been trying to make contacts on 6m and if I spend the time I can make a few per day. It seems meshtastic is similar with lack of people using it. The difference is that anyone else I find on 6m is happy to respond. Meshtastic is like meeting people driving on the road that don't wave back. I'm from Missouri and wave at everyone. The only places I see that use fowl language on the radio is 40m, 11m and meshtastic. Not impressed so far but I keep watching with little hope.

I'm also having a lot of trouble making contacts. I'm thinking that I need to make a solar node and chuck it up a tree on the nearby hilltop.

Yes an antenna outside would help. The Alfa antenna from a good store is a good one. Look at the comms channel solar build.

Why not make a duplexer with one yagi pointing one way and another yagi pointing some other direction ?

The test was rg 316 about 8 inches long, at my house station I am using LMR 400 but it is tough with such a light weight antenna. I have some rg 195 so I will try and find a happy middle point. The home unit uses a N connector.
