100% agree on the miss of RID. So many people are just going to assume since its 249 grams and fully enclosed that its legal to fly over people, just like they assume it doesn't need to be registered no matter what since its 249 grams.
I guess I misunderstood the Remote ID rule the FAA put into place in 2021. I was under the impression that ALL "out of the box" drones were required to be manufactured with Remote ID onboard. Big miss on DJI's part by not implementing RID onboard this drone -- would have definitely expanded the potential user base for the drone. I'll pass on this one purely because of that issue.
@@TheDroneGeek bruh most clear normal thinking people don’t want remote Id at all. Many even still fly without it on their aircraft when it’s supposed to be.
@@RR-zq3mk I don’t disagree. RID is super problematic…but I post my content and projects on pretty public platforms…so flying OOP illegitimately is not really a smart play on my part. IF the FAA comes knocking, I want my I’s dotted and T’s crossed. It’s not worth the trouble and I’m not going to martyr myself to make a statement.
I think the HoverAir's tracking algorithm is probably way better and tracks its subject much better and at a faster speed than the Flip. But I could be wrong and the only way to test its maneuverability is to show it tracking the subject riding on a bike at a higher speed in a forested area, with lots of turns. The test should also be done with the Hoverair X1 for fairness.
For me the Neo is the better drone in that it’s specifically for fun for me. My “baby Avata”. Outside of that I have plenty of higher quality DJI drones that I use for commercial work so this is a big pass for me.
As a parent / beginner wouldn't you just get a Neo though? Still feels like an oddly placed product - cool design, but feels a bit like a product without a real defined market or reason to exist.
Why? Why? Why not? Besides being a great beginners drone, it also serves well as an adventurer's drone. Having a capable drone to film yourself adventuring and doing onsite talking heads, you can also capture some good quality b-roll. Only thing it's lacking is RID. If it would have come in at 234 grams, then my 13.9g RID broadcast module would have been a win. An unfortunate miss. Another great review Ken! Appreciate you.
If you get a RID module for it. All you need to do is register the drone. All in all I don't know why people get so turned off on registering a drone? Nobody would give a "Flip" about the .249g weight limit.
@@BlueDroneBlues already a Part 107 and fully aware of the regs. All my drones are individually registered. The point raised was how DJI missed the mark by not including standard RID under the 249g to meet OOP requirements without requiring a waiver.
Probably will not purchase. I need a small DJI drone for an upcoming trip to Spain and I chose a Mini 4k (refurb) from the DJI store. It was $235 with a remote and one battery. Perfect solution for the trip over my Air 3. Anyway, I am holding out for the real upgrade , the Mavic Pro 4.
I seen in another review it does do the follow me. How far and how good the options are? I honestly do not know? This is a skip for me. I hope the DJI Mini 5 Pro comes out soon and upsells me!
Where is your remote id module? W/O it you are flying commercially and illegally. I see so many creators with this and the neo w/o remote id and people are going to buy these and post videos to youtube and other social media and not realize they are flying commercially and illegally. That's why I hate these 2 drones. You even called out that it doesn't have remote id.
I hope DJI learns from this and the future Mini 5 Pro would have protective props. There is no way this would be a replacement for the future Mini 5 Pro. I like the idea that I forgot my controller scenario and you can use the phone as a option or even just click the buttons on the side to do a few quick feature options. This like the Neo doesn't really hit the pro pilots or someone with a 107. This drone like the NEO is more of a toy for the DJI Preppies that know next to nothing about drones and want to learn as little as possible, but still be able to fly a drone. Great review as usual, Ken!
Excellent video just what I was looking for. I have just placed my order for the Flip. THANK YOU 👍👍

@@TheDroneGeekit was my understanding that it only had to be on drones 250g+ or for any drone doing commercial work.
It looks great for beginners. Good review Ken, thanks sharing.
Did you forget about the Matrice 4 series? That's the first drone of 2025 from DJI
It was just days before this.
The Matrice not a new product line up, and it looks exactly like a Mavic 3, this is a brand new product with a whole new design.
From the looks of it I had originally thought it was going to compete with the HoverAir. All good, great video as always.

Nice review Kat. Footage looks decent. No remote id is just one reason I’ll pass on this one.
Great review, Ken. Definitely not for me, but wow, dji keeps creating great products. Bummer on the lack of rid for sure.
What the Flip!

What about calibrate for satellite ?
It does have GPS.
Nice! 👍
Do you thank it is better than the neon
Yes
I’m waiting for the flip pro! 😂
What should l take mini 4 pro or flip?
Mini 4 pro in my opinion
@OriginaldoBo tnx
Will it follow objects, like cars, or as with the NEO can it only follow people?
only people

So much with drone Ufo sighting, media drop it do too LA fire.
Good first look video Ken
Whats up Ken, weird looking drone
No remote ID? Bummer, it sure seems like it would be a good option for a Class 1 if it did have it.
Apparently it has RID at startup. Once registered to a USA owner, RID goes away. Maybe a firmware update with a switch on/off RID signal is possible.
@@tomn8tr It would have to be installed into the drone itself. It's not just a software update. It is missing the RID hardware.

Suck a prop, you birch tree planting , vegan eating phenomenon
First 💪💪
Oof I was really hoping it would meet Category 1 requirements with RID 🤦♂🤦♂
DJI Mini 4 pro killer
@@feiht5487 Unfortunately it is not a mini 4 killer, far less capable and considerably less compact when folded. Watch out for the mini 5 pro soon.
Mini 4s 🤣

did you released it before DJI did haha
@@ShreyYB He is DJI
I was the 100th 👍🏽
Will it track animals? My phone on Gimble doesn't track!
This will be djis biggest flop yet. Brings nothing new or different to the table. Dumb move.
I don’t know if it will be their biggest , in the EU and China this will likely sell well. The U.S is not DJIs biggest customer
Love the skinny jeans
Not calling this a Spark 2 was a miss.
Looks just like a Spark
I was bummed to find out it wont have fpv capabilities. Gonna have to skip this one
