That behind the back pass was in a game right after Magic announced his retirement due to HIV. Bird threw that pass behind the back as a tribute to Magic.

Magic and Larry became very close friends. It started when they were shooting a shoe commercial in Larrys hometown. Magic thought it was crazy to go to Indiana to shoot the commercial when he lived in LA where they do that stuff hourly. But he went. He was going to eat lunch in his trailer when Larry told him to join him in the house for lunch. Larrys mom made lunch for them, and kept asking Larry if he’d told Magic yet. Larry said no and told her, why don’t you tell him? She proceeded to tell Magic that he was her favorite player! I thought it was adorable. Anyway, the commercial shout started a really great friendship. They’re close even today, from what I hear.
Dude note, at Larrys retirement ceremony, Magic had a Celtics T-shirt on under his Lakers gear because he forgot to bring a T-shirt.

At the age of 30, Larry averaged more Points, rebounds, assists, steals and blocks than LeBron. As far as his defense, he was great at closing off passing lanes. He also made 3 all defensive teams.

I read that Bird had Bron's passing, KD's midrange shooting touch, Curry's long range and free throw accuracy, Jokers rebounding skills, Kobe and MJ's killer will, and more clutch than any player in history! It should have said that they have Birds.

Not only was Bird the third player (and the only forward) to make MVP 3 times in a row but In a 9-year run from 1980 to 1989, Larry Bird got 67% of all MVP votes that were cast. All other players combined only received 33% of the votes. in an era that included the players who eventually made up the dream team and a large list of HOF players.

The best way to understand larry is to think of it in video game terms. Everyone has stat points in a couple specific places but occasionally you encounter someone with extra stats higher than normal like MJ has dunking and offense on an amazingly high level. What makes Bird special is the fact that he has an all around stat advantage that puts him great in almost every field. He may not be a big dunker like MJ but his 3 pointer shots were so deadly that just when you thought you had a chance he would change that in minutes. That last minute win by the celtics over the pistons in the video is not a one and only time. Larry was a consistent 3 point last second threat. If he got the ball at that moment you had better hope he fails otherwise its a win for boston. That is why the 3 point competition was won by him 3 years in a row. Typically many of the top guys never had a chance at winning that competition if he was in it. He would even try to miss intentionally just to make it more challenging. Besides the 3 pointers, the quick passing, and the fake outs, larry bird used some of the most effective psychological warfare of all time. No one was immune to it. Players, coaches, reporters, and even the refs. Larry showed he could play at a level so high that it would make even MJ balk in surprise. That is what MJ admits he learned from Larry. He learned how to raise his prestige to a level so high that everyone sees you as the boss. To make things even scarier, even after he left as a player he went on to coaching and executive with the same boss level. As a coach and exec, he would challenge players to compete against him just to prove they had much to learn. That is why players from the early days to modern times revere Bird with a special respect as he is one of the few people that set a gold standard of how to be a perfect player. Its too bad the games do not reflect that as he would probably be considered a cheat character if they put him in game as he was in life.

Bird gets rooked all the time and video games are no different. Bird led his team every year in rebounds but if you go to the video games they always have McHale and Parish as better rebounders. They will never give Bird all the credit he deserves

I grew up a fan of Dr. J, Magic Johnson, and Michael Jordan, but the player who could beat you the most ways with the most skills was Larry Bird. Bird had the best combination of inside scoring, mid-range scoring, 3-point scoring, passing, rebounding, defense, basketball IQ, trash talking, work ethic, clutch performance, and leadership. Bird had it all from day 1 in the NBA. The others gained some of these things after several years. Bird was the Batman of the NBA. He was always several moves ahead of the competition, best clutch shooter of all-time, #2 all-time with winning percentage (Jordan is #40), he had the passing gift, and he could beat you more ways than just shooting. Jordan was dangerous when he had the ball. Bird was always dangerous - with or without the ball. Bird is top three all-time with Jordan and LeBron, but Bird is the best small forward of all-time. Hands down.
"If I had to choose a player to take a shot to save a game, I’d choose Michael Jordan. If I had to choose a player to take a shot to save my life, I’d take Larry Bird." - Legendary Lakers Coach Pat Riley
“I would much rather guard Michael Jordan than Larry Bird, because you have to play the game as a thinker when you’re playing [Bird]. You have to get inside his mind. Larry wasn’t quick, he couldn’t jump really high, but there were just some sleepless nights.”
-James Worthy on Larry Bird, via ESPN SportsCentury
" The difference between Jordan and Bird was that Jordan made you look slow, Bird made you look stupid. " - James Worthy
“Larry Bird can’t jump, and he’s not that quick… But he makes up for it by using his head, analyzing the opponent. It makes him better than the competition… Consequently, he doesn’t have a weakness.” - Michael Jordan

NO OTHER PLAYER EVER HAS THOSE NUMBERS.. go check. and im not including his shooting splits and defensive numbers in that. Oh and he CALLED his shot over 30 times if not hundreds of times.. luck? lol.. sure..

Put it this way: two teams, my 83 Sixers and 89 Pistons, were the only teams in the 80s not named the Celtics or Lakers to win the NBA Championship. That's how dominant Bird & Magic were in the NBA.

You need to research Bird. Bird led the league in defensive win shares 4 times and was 7 times in the top 5 in DWS. Bird in 1983 finished tied for 3rd place for the DPOY award. Bird was on 3 all defense teams = 2nd team. Bird as a rookie went to a 29 win team and with 1 player change to the roster in ML Carr and a new coach was the main reason Boston won 61 games = a 32 game turnaround = the biggest turnaround in NBA history. Bird won ROY by a big margin over Magic and was 4th in the MVP. Then in the next 8 seasons in the MVP Bird was 2,2,2,1,1,1,3 and 2nd again. Bird created the 50-40-90 shooting club - did it 2 years in a row = 87 and 88 and was so close in 85 and 86 that if you total Bird's stats = Bird averaged 50-40-90 over 4 consecutive years = no other "goat " can say that. Bird was a phenomenal passer - as good as Magic but played Forward and Bird vs Magic= Bird was a better shooter, scorer, rebounder and defender. Keep digging into Bird and you will be amazed!

Bird thought that sort of move would be good in his arsenal. I don't remember the player's name; it's not someone well-known.

Bird is the GOAT for the following reasons
ROY,3x MVP( consecutive), 12x All Star. He has beaten every HOF player he ever faced. Bird swept MJ twice in the playoffs. He also won a coach of the year. He was the founder of the 50/40/90 club.

If you think Larry Bird "just gets lucky", you have zero understanding of him. None at all. He had one of, if not THE, highest court awareness of any player. "Just gets lucky" is possibly the most ignorant comment I have heard one of these "reaction video" hosts ever say about Larry Bird. AND.... if you think the defense in the 80s was soft, you obviously have never watched many videos from that era. Just stop.

LeBron has Larry in his top three...
Magic, Kareem, Dominique also rank him top5, possibly THE best they ever played against.
Gary Peyton said he was THE coldest dude he ever saw.
Isiah said if you pitten Jordan, Magic, Nird and himself in a battle royal, Bird would proabbly be the winner.
James Worthy said hed rather guard Jordan than Bird.
Basically EVERY legend of the sport consider Bird to be one of THE best players ever.
Not everyone has him top5 but I dont think Ive seen a single player from the 80s or 90s rank Larry outside the top10

Great job Omar. OK 1. Luka is NOT in Birds' stratosphere. 2. D was great back then. 3. They showed Rambis getting decked because that was the turning point to Boston winning the Championship. Larry shot like Curry, passed like Magic, rebounded like Kareem and stole like Stockton. He was the most Clutch player ever, 3 consecutive MVPs and King of the 40/50/90 club. GOAT? LEGEND!!!!🏀

  • @bebedenham362
    @bebedenham362 หลายเดือนก่อน

He had a defensive bag, for sure. He had an impressive number of steals and assists..double digit rebounds etc. He just was the best all around talent at the time, he could do all of it well, except leave the ground lol, but did score from almost anywhere on the court consisently, especially in clutch. His court awareness, unmatched BBall IQ and absolute fearlessness made him one of the G.O.A.Ts. He did play against Jordan Bulls in the 80s, swept them 2 times in playoffs and even double teamed by Jordan AND Pippen, they could not stop him, neither could Rodman. He seriously was quite something to watch, he had that unhinged type of killer instinct on the court, supreme confidence in his game and guts for battle. Those sorts are the the actual G.O.A.T.s...and only small percentage of players then (and now) have those alpha type 'alter egos' in competition...he said in an interview that when he steps on to the court, he expects to win.

Dude, please understand that speed, and quickness are not the only 2 factors that make a great ball player.
Larry's IQ is unmatched, the dude just understood how to play the game period. I would say if you asked a lot of hall of famers who their favorite player was, they would answer Bird. There's a reason why MJ, Worthy, Magic, Kareem, Dr J, Isaiah Thomas all sing his praises. They sure as hell didn't play NBA 2k and thought he's slow, therefore he must be garbage, that's pretty simple minded, honestly.

It’s not luck when you say what you’re gonna do then do it. He was always two steps ahead of everyone on the court. And his situational awareness was crazy. That’s why he could do all those blind passes.
And when the other team was celebrating him, it wasn’t just that shot. It was that he had been doing that the whole game.
Larry played back in the day before all the players turned into pu$$ie$. 🤷‍♂️🤦‍♂️😆

You have to watch more videos on Larry your respect will grow. He made his team better. He was a team player he got every one involved. You have just seen just a little bit of him.Bird was a got all around player and was in it for the win. Watch his larry bird greatest passer re edit video. Larry and magic rivalries were so awesome to watch because they both were team players but great in their own individual way as team leaders. Courtship of rivals is a long video but is about Larry and magic. I still watch basketball and enjoy the talent I see in joker Luka KD lebron wembyDirk the Celtics of today and many more but bird will always be my favorite my top 6 Mj lebron Bird magic Kareem Kobe so many other players I loved watching Shaq Dominique Clyde drexler oh so many great players over the years this old head watching the new boys coming up boozer twins Albanza and cooper Flagg all great high schoolers coming up fast. Albanza and Cooper Flag being my two favorites . Great reaction.

Luck? The Legend could only do that because of luck? You don't know much about Larry Legend. It wasn't luck. Defense was REAL back then. It was NOT like today's game. It was way better. It was harder to play then. Floppers would have been laughed out of the league.

When goat talk comes up.. the players have more reliability than we do. MJ - look at it like this.. in 2 head-to-head playoff series MJ is 0 - 2 against Bird. Better still both those series WERE SWEPT by Bird and the Celtics! So who do you think MJ feared? Also, that retirement party was a stand alone event.. those people weren't there because there was a game afterwards. They ALL came to say goodbye to Bird
