You can get silver solder from Ferree's Tools. ferreestoolsinc.com A butane torch may possibly work if what you are soldering does not have a lot of mass, but butane torches usually cannot get the metal hot enough to melt the solder and get it to flow correctly.
You rarely need to remove a silver solder joint. About the only times you would is to fix a manufacturing defect or an alteration. To take one apart, make sure there are no soft solder joints that will be affected, heat it to 1250 degrees, and take it apart with a pliers.
@@TheBrassandWoodwindShop Thanks for the response! I decided to jump in with both feet and give it a go. The more I do it the better I get. I look forward to your videos as I'm sure there are many things I haven't thought of yet.
On a saxophone, how about the neck strap ring? Seems like a good candidate for silver solder, so the weight of the instrument won't cause the joint to creep with time.
The ring is silver soldered to the flange and the flange is silver soldered onto the body. They do not silver solder it onto the body because the rings wear down with time and need to be replaced.
I love your videos... they are explained very well
Very neat... informative.Do you have a video showing hands on how you do it?
What procedure did they use at the sax factory to get the hard solder joints so clean after soldering?
Where did you get the silver solder wire?
And is this possible to do with butane torch?

When and how would you remove or unsolder a silver solder part?

Do you have a soft soldering tutorial? I can't seem to find a good one.
I hope to do a soft soldering series within the next month or two.
