5:27 I slightly disagree with that. With Plex and a few others they don't tell you it's a trial until after you get them. Others don't tell you that the corresponding phone, tablet or desktop apps cost money. 6:39 You should have mentioned/tried Twonky. Not sure if it'd play itunes content because I have android but it's worth a look. It can play internet content, device content and stuff from your home network. If you know how to use it's nearly as good as chromecast in relation to casting.
darkheat246 I think you meant "Windows phone and iOS are the Canada of the phone world" you fucking genius. Typical product of the American education system can't even string together a simple sentence.
Hey Mike, I recently replaced an aging Roku 3 with the 2015 Roku 2 which is a Roku 3 re packaged with a basic IR remote without the enhanced features, That model supposedly supports universal remotes, or also gives you the option of purchasing a wifi based enhanced remote while at the same time saves you some money up front, while giving you Roku 3 speeds and an option later to add all features later other than voice search to the Roku. I did try the Roku streaming stick for about a week, and while I enjoyed the device, and it worked well. I mised the usb port for local media option. I didn't care much about the gaming features as I didn't use them hardly at all when I had them.
My Roku stick went back to Best Buy! Firstly, the on screen directions were extremely misleading and kept taking me on a circular journey. Secondly, when I contacted the Help Line on the Roku box, I was connected to a tech who spoke extremely poor English. Thirdly, once I was able to finally understand what the young man was saying, it was determined that in order for Roku to assist me in connecting their device, I was not only required to allow them to take control of my laptop, but also asked to pay them well in excess of $100 to do it! What a scam! By then I had determined to call Best Buy to ask for their assistance, but when I checked the stick to make sure I did in fact have it plugged in all the way, it was more than a "bit warm" as you said in your video. It was hot! Naturally, I unplugged it, and when I disconnected the power block from the very good power stick I use, the block was also extremely hot! Thus, it went back with no regrets! Just warn potential buyers NOT to contact Roku if they are having problems getting connected, or they will get burned!
Hey Mike its great vid and i watch all of your can you please do an unboxing/review on the lg g3 im considering buying it but not sure thank you have a good weekend
We're waiting for the LG G3 and for the Microsoft surface pro 3 And in my opinion you're the best reviewer in the TH-cam Can you do a review for the lumia(s) 930 ,1020, 1520 ,please.
I have no cable because I'm barely home, im wondering which device to get... Chromcast or Roku?? Might be an overkill because i have netflix and stuff but i want to lounge when i'm not feeling netflix. Any help?
Once again, the best review bar none. I do have some questions and quick notes. The iTunes can be supported thru some roku aftermarket apps. The questions are can you do a fireTV stick vs Roku Stick video? No one seems to have it, and amazon boasts better processor and ram for their device and I'm curious if it makes a difference. Also, you were more help than the roku sales dept, they had no clue what I was asking when I asked what the difference is between Roku 1 or LT and the stick. 3rd question, I'm trying to buy this for my mother's small 1080p TV in her room, but she's not a techy person. I need to know if the sticks interface is more complicated or less than the other roku models? So I can choose the simplest one for her. Thanks DB!
I have a smart TV & I like how it gets all these cools apps and all but I want TV service on my TV because I'm tired of using TH-cam just to watch my favorite show. Now I ordered on of these through amazon, is it true that these get good TV shows to watch like spongebob & big bang theory & even MLB ?
Thanks for the review, I've wondered about this stick. Great option for me if I just want the Roku to stream the internet and not from a USB media (since they don't support AVI files anyway). I've always had a Roku from day one. But I dont like the new wifi direct remotes. Even when no one is using the Roku, the remote still seems to scramble/mess with my router and internet when I'm using my mac to surf. I always have to unplug the Roku just to get anything done on other devices.
I'm working on some new ones, ha. Fell rather ill this past week and have been playing with iOS 8, Yosemite, and the LG G3 instead of actually working. I know, bad!
Good review. However I could not hear anything regarding the most important feature one would expect from a device like this. Yes I has a lot of features, yes it can play media pushed from MOBILE devices etc. But, can it play a media from a local server? Yes it has support for Plex. And the main thing that Plex does is serving media in a local environment. But are we supposed to be satisfied with third party apps/services that Roku has made a pact with? Can't we have Roku play from any server that is available in our local environment? I think this was one important question that should have been answerd in a review. Thanks
Thanks for continuing making new product unboxing and reviews. I had to unsub Soldierknowsbest after he stopped making any new vids, instead all he does now is Iphone 6 "what it could be videos" and videogame reviews, smh. Thanks!
If you have an Android phone, Chromecast is great but your content selection will be more limited. Still, you'd have access to most stuff people care about.
Dayumm, 4K footage downsampled to 1080p looks so darn crisp! *-*
Ironically, I'm editing in 4K without a 4K monitor ;)
+Bridget5 add alert
Damn, 4k actually looks incredible down scaled to 1080p xD
Actually it looks very good even on 360p...
A Google User knkws
That's a nice 4K camera you have there mister.
Thank You, it's a Sony AX100
Roku has definitely come a long way.
Considering on getting one since my parents have the Apple TV in their room.
LOVE the voiceover style. Keep it up!
I think I'll be buying a 4K monitor next year now that my favourite reviewer is uploading in 4K!

Thank you for always having clean and tidy fingernails lol I always enjoy your helpful reviews!
As usual, such great depth! :D awesome review!
There are other platforms other than IOS or Android such as Windows Phone
Windows phone and iOS are the Cananda of the world
darkheat246 Actually, I've always seen iOS as the Soviet Russia. It seems like a good idea on paper, but in practice, everyone dies.
darkheat246 I think you meant "Windows phone and iOS are the Canada of the phone world" you fucking genius. Typical product of the American education system can't even string together a simple sentence.
likethepear I resent that, seeing as I am an American, and can perfectly and fluently form a sentence.

Very informative and covered all the aspects. Well done Mike !
Watching a Chromecast Ad before this video :)
Finally, streaming without the need of a giant set top box.
Great video! But do you need to have a smart TV for this to work?
detroitborg is fantastic !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I loved the review, might be getting one of these. Thank you!
Only Mike could create a 10-minute review of a memory stick...
Sharp and clear as always mike! But I've always loved my chromecast! And did the LG G3 interest you by any means???
I am trying to get an LG G3 for review, not sure how long it's going to take since the release time is very vague.
***** Thanks a lot for the reply sir! When I think of reviews,I think of detroitBORG.
4K is awesome !
I love shooting in 4K, the results are amazing.
Can you make a video on the new surface pro 3 please you explain better than other people and great video
I have one on order :)
I'm looking forward as you to get surface 3 review.
Me too can't wait
Awesome video Mike! Keep it up :-)
True Dat!
Mike, is this a voice over from an external mic or is It the on board mic on the camera?
Wow i bought a google chromecast stick and i didnt even know this badass roku thing existed
Very nice, will be marketed in Europa?
I'm so eager to see your preview on OS X Yosemite and iOS 8. Your videos are really amazing.
I'm working on the iOS 8 walkthrough, want to make it very comprehensive. Yosemite is still missing far too many features to fully demo at this stage.
Great review. I have Roku now but only the small box version. Do you think this is worth the upgrade to the HDMI stick? THANKS MIKE.
Which generation? I would say there is no need unless you want to get rid of the box for a leaner setup.
DetroitBORG
What camera do you use to record your videos?
Great review!
thank you i might buy it
keep it up champ

Hello, great review! Does anyone have to charge the remote by chance or the stick? 🤔
how do you turn it off?
Thank you
Here i can see only up to 1440p. What i need to do in order to see the video in 2160p?
"Noticeable lag"? Is there lag with videos or just lag when you press a button on your phone it takes a second to respond on the tv?
Does it work with a normal monitor or does it have to have a TV?
Review FitBit pleaseeeeeeee !!!!! I love your reviews, you are the best in the entire youtube, I mean it ! Greetings from Brazil !
are we able to use it in the middle East ?
What makes the Roku 3 attractive is the remote with the headphone jack. I hate that this Roku stick has the older remote.
We're waiting for the LG G3 and for the Microsoft surface pro 3
And in my opinion you're the best reviewer in the TH-cam
Can you do a review for the lumia(s) 930 ,1020, 1520 ,please.
what's the difference between this and chromecast?
Hey Mike, did you voice over this video? Love the review but prefer more of a natural opinion then a scripted one
I did voice it, but you don't feel my thoughts are more organized and clear in this sort of video?
I have no cable because I'm barely home, im wondering which device to get... Chromcast or Roku?? Might be an overkill because i have netflix and stuff but i want to lounge when i'm not feeling netflix. Any help?
i can't get the remote to register, stuck on the get started screen. any advice to getting it restarted

EclipseGuy97 sling or ps vue
Are you going to do a WWDC reaction/thoughts video? I'd love to see what you think!
I want to stream my movies in the mkv format to my TV without having to convert it to mp4 for my Apple TV. Is there an option for that?
You can try Beamer 2.
Thanks for the review, I've wondered about this stick. Great option for me if I just want the Roku to stream the internet and not from a USB media (since they don't support AVI files anyway). I'm working on some new ones, ha. Fell rather ill this past week and have been playing with iOS 8, Yosemite, and the LG G3 instead of actually working. I know, bad!
That's cool!
Do u have to pay for a Roku account??
Yeah... This is never gonna come close to the Apple tv. I cant fuckin live without ittt
Roku have twitch? :D

Anyone notice it's 9:11..

your the best
TH-cam isn't ready for your 4K, soooo slow. LOL
This or a Chromecast?
If you have an Android phone, Chromecast is great but your content selection will be more limited. Still, you'd have access to most stuff people care about.
Chromecast for the win. Open your Chrome browser point your browser to the area where you store your media files and enjoy!
I like this more than the chromecast
you should do unboxing's of gaming consoles and reviews
i did not mean to post this
It's ok
So....it's a Chromecast with a remote?
Not really, Chromecast has no on-screen interface to access content, you have to do it from a phone or tablet, ideally one that runs Android.
Ahh okay. Which would you prefer? Chromecast or Roku?
You live so close to me i live in Novi
Why the fuck does that remote have a blockbuster button?
I'm sure money is involved with that kind of placement.
4k?
That's the resolution of this video
The max resolution I can select to view the video is 360p.
It's up to 4K now, took time to render.
What is 4k
watch it on speed 09
it will work for me in israel?
On his video*
Yo
TIP: This video is actually 1440p xD
there's one thing missing for the roku
:/
Mysticalillusions HDMI extension cable
Lol, Blockbuster. Enough said.
why is there a blockbuster button lol
LoL at Forrest Gump parts...finally
That was for you Miguel!
You four star'd Forrest Gump. How dare you.
Actually, that was the Netflix app, ha.
***** Are you gonna unbox a Nokia XL?
Can I Access Twitter

I can get it on wish
they cant let google do their own thing
Rather go for Chromecast. Can't stream my own vids...
