To touch on the vocab thing... When i started learning Dutch i was reading a novel and watching a couple TV series. In the novel i kept coming across the word "zoeken". I would look up the meaning and carry on. Every time i came across the word i forgot it and had to look it up, UNTIL, the people in the TV show had lost something and one character said zoeken zoeken and everyone began searching the room for the item. And since then not only do i remember what it means, but I also remember the moment i permanently knew its meaning and never needed to look it up again. Funny how our brain works like that.

That is an amazing language learning experience! I am so glad it worked out so well for you. 🤩 The mix of audio, image and context that TV shows give us is truly powerful when learning a language! I hope you keep improving and advancing in your Dutch studies! ✨

I've spoken Louisiana French (with some Louisiana Creole mixed in) with my 4 year old son since he was born-granted I sometimes get lazy and speak to him in English-but we watch kids shows in French, and that has helped a lot. My son's favorites are "TroTro" and "Mimi Soleil." We also watch French dubs of other kids shows. Unfortunately, there is only one cartoon in Louisiana French-called "Boudini et ses amis"-but he does love this show too. These kids shows have even helped me, a fairly fluent speaker, learn new vocabulary!

Your son is very lucky to have parents that help him learn his heritage language, congrats to you for that! 😍✨
