Good afternoon, Keith. I made my first of steelhead candy and it was great and very effective. Made my second batch and air dried and patted dry. When I tried this second batch it had acted like eggs and juiced up like eggs. Should I drain the juice or leave it.any advice is appreciated. Thanks
Good question, I never dry the steelhead candy. I see them as scent sponges so I keep them saturated in the jars and actually prefer even a little more scent than I used in the video.
Hi Keith, just had two questions. 1. Would squid powder work better for curing roe and shrimp instead of the procure oil? 2. Since squid oil works so well, have you ever experimented fishing squid chunks in the river? Was wondering if I should give this a try. Any info would be much appreciated. Thank you!
@@kennguyen9125 two great questions. Squid powder does work but there are very few options. Anglers Unlimited sells a squid powder. I still like the oil for the sake of dispersion. 2. I have tried squid chunks with minimal success, I do believe the oils are more important than the meat itself as it doesn’t give off much scent.
@@thuanpham8888 great question. I honestly haven’t bought them in 10+ years. I feel like the size 10 was the size I used most? A tick smaller than a dime size
Hey Keith, you mentioned success on the great lakes. Do you know, are the great lakes guys using a similar recipe or maybe using a alewive oil instead? I'm 4hrs away and make 2 trips a year so I don't have the time to really test a bunch of different concoctions.
@@werejonesen1907 understood. I don’t have the exact specifics but can attest to procure squid oil being the most well rounded scent for Steelhead here, I’d go with that without question. If you wanted to make a second batch you could do some shrimp/crawfish oils as well. I have not tested the alewife on the west coast yet 😁
Bleach and elbow grease takes the dye off the counter tops before the wife sees it as well. Know from experience. But as Keith says, just do it outside 😅
I'll challenge you float vs drift...only so i can fish with you all day 😅 love the products and humble guidance, so far my best summer and fall season to date with your products and tips.
@@colingreupner4392 😁, bring that float along and you get first water…. All fun aside, I’m happy to hear the successes and here to share all I can. What rivers are your stomping grounds?
@Ultimateshrimpcure Sounds good😉 I'm either in the Columbia on boat or plunking but my home river is a favorite of yours where the cures were birthed. I'll say hi next time I see ya there.
Lmao I have never had a problem with fishing fresh eggs for Steel. In fact I do better with no cure in Lady O. Great Lakes Steelhead must be different. Don’t get me wrong guys catch on cure but they ain’t out fishing Freshys in Lake O tribs
@@boblove6865 everywhere I’ve ever been in life a steelhead acts like a steelhead. I’ve certainly cut eggs straight out of a fish and caught one on the next cast using fresh. Have you tried the prawn chunks or steelhead candy on your fish there?
@ agreed a Steelhead acts like a Steelhead and I have fished for Steel from the Tongass to the SR in NY. I’ve never tried bait anywhere but the Great Lakes and in my 30 plus year’s experience cure has never made a difference. I will say confidence is everything and if it makes a guy confident then cure them eggs. All that said I cure my eggs for Kangs.
Great new episode Keith. Thanks for sharing

What size of Cheater is your favorite? Thanks

Wonder if this would work plunking the Columbia
Haven’t tried it yet personally but there are a few guys that have reported back with success plunking summer steelhead with them

Yes please! It’s ultra fine particles and you don’t even see it in the air.
Murdered chum on ultimate prawn chunks. Every cast bobber down for hours.
