  • A not so quick look at my scooter which is nearing 70,000km... No real issues apart from a failed injector and drive spindle in the transmission.... Some wear and tear and the stickers starting to come off. This thing is usually parked outside in the elements too..
    If you have any questions just let me know in the comments section...
    I would also love to do more videos but I do work and am limited with my laptop for editing at the moment which makes it a slow process so I don't even bother sometimes when I plan to do something....... LoL

    I just watched this again.. My scooter has been parked up in my farm shed since the end of 2018.. I really miss riding that. I have a Suzuki GS500 and it's ok but the SR Max was better...

    Great vid. Info on what issues to expect on the sr is rare on the net. It's especially good to see how it stands up to harsher treatment. Thanks for taking the time to give the level of detail that you have, I find it most valuable.

      That's awesome.. There were a few things I forgot but the other main one is don't over tighten the sump plug. That's an aluminium thread. Mine is now glued in with silicone and I use a pump to suck the old oil out.. Lol

I've got a tip for you too, use blue locktite on the variator nut cause the bugger will vibrate loose if you're unlucky like me.......mine came off at 70kph and punched it's way out through the plastic air inlet after removing three vanes off the outter pulley. Just as well the sr fits corner to corner on a standard 6x4 box trailer! I do love it though☺

      There are screws under the flaps either side. The compartment on the left and the coolant tank on the right. You also need to get at the other screws under the little grille piece on the front between the lights. I think. Maybe even pull up the small badge on the front as well.. Pretty easy. Have you ever notice some oil comsumption? My SR MAX has 14.000km only and always i use 5w-40 eni or catrol. In 2000km i have 50-60ml consuption(the upper X on oil mark is dry). Maybe because of short trips? I live on an island and everyday i cover 4-5km to go to the cuty and the same for returning home.. You have this engine for 70.000km and i thought that maybe you have an idea. Thank you.

    • @amateur-1insight475
      @amateur-1insight475  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Obviously it's not warming up or the engine may not have been properly run in. I think the scooter is too big for how you use it. You may have cylinder glazing or early wear. You really need to load the engine up sometimes. I always rode about 35km to work one way on the highway. Short trips aren't good.
      Try a 10w40 oil maybe. But you really need to get the engine working

    • @orfeas92
      @orfeas92 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@amateur-1insight475 The running in was ok. It was done by me, very carefully. Probably it is not warming up. Of course sometimes i cover longer distances and more push on throttle. How often do you chsange your oil?So, i understand that you have never ssen any consumption.

    • @amateur-1insight475
      @amateur-1insight475  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@orfeas92 I change the oil every 5000km. I did fit a new Malossi top end, cylinder, piston and head at a bit over 30,000km. Oil consumption went up a bit but I always go flat out and rev it pretty high near the max.
      I wouldn't worry about it too much. If you only do short distances change the oil frequently to avoid acid build up. Just top it up when needed.

    Very nice video! 7:45 Why so much rust? Are you living near the sea or do you have salty roads in Winter? You can expect from your bike to reach easily 150.000km. Ι have seen a lot Gilera nexus 250 and other bikes from the group with this number on their tachometer with the original engine! We are waiting the new one for the malossi cylinder, aftermarket suspension etc.

      No rust.. Just dirt I think, I always ride to work even when raining. And no, we don't have salty roads in winter LoL. Winter temps here are usually around 20 degrees C plus during the day.
      I'm not worried about engine longevity, general wear and tear on other components is starting to be a real issue. As for more videos, I will try but I do work a lot....... Stay tuned

    Im really close to 60000km so far.
    Daily driven under all possible weather conditions :P
    Here's my beast:
    i.imgur.com/K2fREzq.jpg
    Ridden hard too, braked hard also (stock rotor, EBC-HH sintered pads, no wear !!! :O )
    A couple of fun-trackdays too on a go-kart track...
    I take care of it, despite being daily driven, it's stored in a closed garage and parked at another garage when at work. Still looks as good as new!
    1) 2 water pumps failed (1 under warranty)
    2) Engine mounts twice. 2nd time, i went for a complete overhaul.
    3) Shortcircuit on the rear fusebox. Not exactly sure, but i found mouse traces nearby and kind of "chewed" cables.
    4) Voltage regulator which was not sufficient. 13,6 volt only on position lights.
    5) Clutch rattling due to worn pins on shoes.
    Mine is a 2015 model... First 2 years were rough for it as i put nearly 43000kms!!!

      Engine mounts, due to moon like surface of our roads here in Greece.
      Fusebox and Voltage regulator failed at the same time. I guess short circuit, caused the issue. Had some "bite" like wear on the spot where the cables touched each other... i believe a mouse has done its job... not completely sure about that.
      Clutch shoes, are rattling due to wear on their pins... 0-100 repeatedly, abusing the transmission for 45000kms... proves its strong enough :D
      No unreasonable issues with this bike. Engine is B U L L E T P R O O F !!!
