It is true that in San Jose’s 33 years of existence, this is the first time they’ll pick first overall. But that prompts the question, why did they not get the first overall pic in 1991, their inaugural season? It was due to an unfair decision by the league. The other existing teams wanted to keep the chance at drafting Eric Lindros for themselves instead of giving the expansion Sharks the top pick as was customary. The league forced them to select second overall and they took journeyman Pat Falloon. This decision was dubbed the "San Jose Screwjob”.
Yes, this is the first time the Sharks drafted 1st overall. Up until VGK entered the league, all the previous expansion teams pretty much got hosed one way or another

The San Jose Sharks won the 2024 NHL Draft Lottery by capturing the #1 pick for the 1st time in franchise history, so they will select Macklin Celebrini 1st overall in the 1st round.

Great Video, as usual, Mike. I want to thank you for all of the updates, especially, the Draft Lottery. Unfortunately, The San Jose Sharks won (Congrats to them). Also, unfortunately, My Chicago Blackhawks didn't win & will pick 2nd (I guess that's going to mean, unless there's a miracle, No Macklin Cellibrini in Chicago - LOL).

You're right he does deserve a chance. Let's not forget that all those other coaches don't want Ottawa. Travis working with Lindy is worth noting, his tutelage probably has helped Travis.

PLD should be bought out. It’s a 1/3rd buyout, so do it when you can, or lose that right forever. But if they trade him for a guy like Kuemper, jump at it.

Maybe on the buyout, but still no. As for this trade proposal, it is beyond dumb. PLD struggled this year, but you do realize that he played as a 3rd line center all year. Often with two players that should have been in the AHL. His points totals are not okay for an 8.5m/yr player, but are inline for a 3rd line center. Kuemper has been bad for 2 seasons now. If you put both players on the ice, Kuemper is a bigger waste of $ and does more damage to the teams chance to win games vs Dubois. Do people really think the Kings should trade (in a bad year) an overpaid 3rd line center for a sieve of a goalie? Why on earth would the Kings do that? Why?
@@alsmith7316 I watched 95 % of Kings games this year. PLD quit very early and for the most part just floated around, that is totally unacceptable in today's NHL.

I still say send him to the Pens for Jarry, but Kuemper could be an interesting idea too. Washington is probably gonna be going through a rebuild this or next year because even if they made the playoffs, they surely won't repeat that by being -35 in goals next year as well. They still have a lot of young talent that can grow into larger roles, but they don't appear to be ready. Maybe a full on rebuild isn't needed, but adding pieces now to eventually replace Ovie, Pacioretty, Backstrom, and Oshie in the near future will be imperative. I actually think the Capitals might have to give more than just Kuemper in exchange for Dubois because Kuemper's really not seen as a 5m a year goalie anymore, and Dubois would easily be a top line center on the Capitals right now. I'd be happy to get a half eaten hot dog for Dubois right now though.
PLDiva to the pens? well, you can try. my advice would be, in the words of mike lange, "slap him silly, sidney." god knows the diva needs it.
perhaps dubois, kaliyev, a 2nd, and the signing rights to talbot for jarry, and EK at 25% retained.
or, just package him with a 1st somewhere. would someone be willing to take the sub 2m cap hit for 14 years and buy him out for the sake of the 1st? of course, this assumes the finals ends on time and the buyout can happen at the reduced rate.
dylan strome is the 1C in washington atm. if dubois went there, he'd have the skill to fill that role, but not the will. PLDiva in washington could be a volatile mix.
until he grows up, dubois and his contract will be toxic waste wherever he goes.

While I would love to see the Kings move PLD,,,this is a ridiculous idea. Rob Blake and Luc Robitaille already confirmed they will not buyout PLD and suggested the organization has to do ore to help him be successful. More importantly, PLD has a NMC that kicks in July 1st. Why would he ever leave living in Manhattan Beach to live in DC? Cost of living is very close, taxes are close, but quality of life is 100 times better in Manhattan than DC.
Kuemper was already a king before the coyotes. Kings aren’t going to get him back. They would be interested in Oshie & give the Caps PLD, Lizotte, Roy & even Lewis for an elite player.

man we just got rid of two head cases in mantha and kuzy ( i will always be routing for kuzy,Thank you for the 2018 run,sad he has lost his way)we dont need pld mentally, i would rather have marner than pld, i think toronto should run them back,with extra cap space, go get a goalie if you have to trade marner why not to his former coach Carbury and torotno player Sandine? kemperer is very consistant overall and he was really snake bit this year ,he will be back to his consistant self. he could win and mentor, the caps just cant score so no room for kemperer to have a bad goal. treeliving and caps gm brian mac have a history of making hockey trades with each other. if the claim marner is soft we can cover him in washington, if he blocked shots and went to the net he may get injured and that would be worse than not getting a greasey goal imo. ovi puts up points so we put up how lazy he can be, we have guys for certain roles.
