I think the link between Tati Westbrook and the makeup industry as we know it is very interesting, I’d love a video about your thoughts on it. Like she literally brought relevancy to brands like Smashbox and Tarte etc. and whenever she recommended a product, it would sell out. I remember her talking about the more recent smashbox foundation and it literally taking off based off of her approval. Very interesting to think about how her absence has changed the industry a lot. I wonder which company is next to follow in Becca’s footsteps due to bad marketing (in my opinion because Becca had good products).

tarte and stila need a whole rebranding. they can stick to what they usually do, but make it more appealing ! like stila, stila's thing isn't colorful, vibrant, etc. which is okay because there's also an audience for that ! but new, more "trendy" packaging

I adore my brushes I got when I was 19, they are still perfect and I’m 23 and I’m still using them constantly. It’s a shame they discontinued the book brush set.
I bought the cor de rosa palette because of the rave, the shimmers are very lackluster and disappointing to me :( would work well for beginners or people who like more sheer eyeshadows
Tbh I really like NYX I've never bought anything other than lipstick from, which I actually think is really affordable, the ones named after cities are only about £7 and the liquid suade which I love is only about £12
They have good base products too, but not much else beside the tiktok hype. I really like their "worth the hype"-mascara, skin tint/veil and eyeshadow primer. The primer was on sale at my local H&M (half off and 3 for 1) and I bought like three backups, that's how much I like it. I still don't get the Tetris collab, that palette is freaking massive.
Oh also, Inglot is a brand that was really big with MUAs and consumers in the early 2010s but has done nothing to update their products and formula in the paste decade.
Thing is it's not just the brow products that keep Benefit going. It's also the fact that they are so accessible in Asian countries. I've had to go to China a couple times and other countries in Asia and brands like Benefit, Nars, Urban Decay and MAC are most common when it comes to the high-end scale of makeup if you're not looking at YSL or Gucci makeup. While in the west they aren't as commonly talked about people are definitely buying from them in the rest the world, they won't be going anywhere any time soon.
i think even in smaller european countries where we don't have sephora benefit is in every store so it's most people's only choice for that price bracket
I have two liquid lipsticks from the balm and they are literally amazing for going out (i know, we can't do that anymore, but we will be able to someday). You can eat and drink so much without the colour budging, while still being really really comfortable on the lips!

Etude house is really popular in Asia since it’s an Asian brand that is targeted to asians,, their popularity may have died down in western countries because westerners aren’t their target audience
Etude may have suffered a bit in the west because of their product shade ranges won't do wonders for most darker skinned people. It's still a big deal in most Asian countries.

Being a Canadian, I’m so bummed that MAC is not really as popular as they were about ten years ago. They really fell off the radar and I think they’re trying to come back, but giiiiiirl, that SIMS palette they did a few months ago was not it.
I made a mistake by buying a tarte palette because I needed an eyeshadow palette and a sephora employee convinced me to buy it. Worst formula I have tried so far, so unbendable and patchy.
I actually still like Tarte! The Amazonian Clay foundation is one of the best for my dry, pimple-covered skin. I also love that they have free shipping for almost all products now on their website so I’m more likely to buy directly from them rather than on Sephora.

I think Makeup Geek could still do single shadows but just releasing mattes is not enough. If she came out with special formulas that'd lure people in. We have a similar influencer brand over here in Poland- Glamshop started way back and it also started out with singles and brushes. But now they make amazing pressed pigments and palettes. Well it's also way more affordable than Makeup Geek. I know I often buy matte singles too when ordering pressed pigments.
Tbh... Hourglass may not be talked about on the internet anymore.. But they are not going to go under... Cause let's be real here... The people who can easily afford their price points don't really care about shade ranges....

I really like NYX. I love all their lip products and the epic ink eyeliner. I’ve used their bronzers and a few other products. I’ve never had an issue with NYX
Also Lime Crime were on the pulse at the same time as J* for colourful lipsticks. My favourite colour of all time was Serpentina from Lime Crime, which has been discontinued because I guess green glittery lipstick doesn't sell well ? I found a liquid lipstick dupe which was a christmas collection from Medusa Makeup but that brand has been rebranded and the green glitter lip colour was limited edition so now I'm stumped on where to find something like it. I'm going to try a lipstick from KVD but the green doesn't have glitter in it, so maybe I'll try adding a glittery eyeshadow on top or something.
I love Sigma eyeshadows. The matts are very nice but I own similar ones from other brands - it’s the shimmers that are otherworldly ✨ if I had to compare the quality I would say Nabla is the closest but Sigma has better colour combinations for my skin ❤️
I actually love NXY, but I only buy the cheaper side of their things such as their lip products-so good! Just their eyeshadow palettes are pretty pricey for drugstore. Other than that, NXY is still doing well and has their name out. The only drug store that I usually buy from is NYX, Maybelline, and Elf lol

Used to. Doe Deere isn’t even involved anymore. Her social media is entirely focused on tea cups and other things. And also, Lime Crime has been talked about on the internet with the freckle pen, the brow collection, their glosses and the Venus palettes, etc. I’m not sure why Angelika would include that brand on here when their releases have been hyped up on the alt side of the beauty community.

That’s what I did and I also followed the passing of the ownership from DD to the woman from L’Oréal (iirc that’s the parent company now) GOD, I LOVE THE VENUS II PALETTE! I have that one and I love the pigmentation and color story. It’s perfect for grungy makeup! Maybe it’s TMI but I’m olive medium (skin tone) and some colors usually don’t work with the greenish shade of my skin but I like how they show up over regular eyeshadow primer (the ones without color). The only complaint I have is with the green shade which is easy to blend but tends to look muddy if your brush is slightly wet (even if it’s your own oil from your eyelids) other than that I hope you’ll enjoy it! 🖤

Tarte's amazonian clay series used to be sooooo lit. The blushes and the gel eyeliner was my staple for like 5 years ??? I feel like when I bough from Tarte I hadn't really seen a bright coral blush like the one they had idk. When I would go overseas I would literally go to a sephora (before NZ had one) and replace my blush and eyeliner like damn
Lmao that comment about Nyx' packaging being bad is so real! I have one of their jumbo pencils (in milk) that I use as an eyeshadow primer and the cap on it is cracked all the way around from the bottom almost to the top, so I've had to put tape around it so it's actually still somewhat seal when I put the cap on. Yikes.
It used to be the case (although it may have changed now), that Benefit used to operate a type of "one in, one out" policy, so that for every new item that was launched another item got discontinued. I think people may have got fed up of products that they liked being discontinued, although I completely understand that brands do have to continually refresh their ranges. Also their eyeshadow colours are always so dull and uninspiring!
I mean i think it depends on the brand. Like for me cover fx is a great brand because i have a allergy to a lot of fragrances and everything in most make up. A lot of brands aren't popular on the internet still make a lot of money consistantly. Even so a lot of popular internet brands have sometimes very overhyped products that are pushed by a lot of youtubers whether or not they are good. Ive brought things that are popular that aren't worth the money doesn't really matter what the packaging or popularity something has if the product doesn't deliver. Further more having a lot of launches pushes this idea of needing things that not everyone will use, its very fast fashion. I see so many youtuber videos of so many palettes and other make up people use once or use for only one video just to hype it up so they can push people into buying it. I know the point of the video was to just talk about not popular brands, just these are some of my thoughts when it comes to popular vs not popular. I know you touched on some of these same points.
I think we've reached a point where drugstore products are just as good (and sometimes even better) than high end brands, so if they don't amp up in creativity and formulas they're destined to sink
Stila and Tarte are still used and loved by older women. They aren’t geared to the Snowflake generation. Benefit is used in many Hollywood studios, many models keep Benetint in their bags and all Ballerinas use Benefit as it was and still use for stage “trickery”
I have the Sigma enchanted and had the cor de Rosa. They are pretty but not my favorite formula. They fade on me quick. Their eyeshadow primer in the stick is really good though.
Dose of colors is one of my favorite brands. They’re not just liquid lips anymore. They have foundations and concealer which are my favorite formulas! Their eyeshadow formula are also amaaaaaazing! 100% would recommend!
It would be so nice to get example pictures when you explain products. I become interested and have to google every few seconds to get what you’re talking about. You’re content is really good ❤️❤️
I have an eyeshadow brand I love. Shimmers aren't spectacular, but the bright mattes are fab - Certifeye. Another brand I like is Profusion. I have a couple of their palettes that are fantastic as well.
I despise liquid lipsticks for the most part but if I want a red lip that’ll stay, I always go with my Dose of Colors one! It stays on well and isn’t nearly as uncomfortable as all the other liquid lips I’ve tried

I feel like ABH is going this way, it doesn’t have near as much hype as it use to. They still have some good products and launches, and like benefit I think a lot of people just replenish their same brow products, but I think all the palettes and stuff was total overkill and it made people not care as much about collecting and now it’s kinda dead
When I think of Smashbox I think of their primer which is advertised a lot more than their other products, at least here in Finland. I didn't even know that they made brushes before I bought one and I was so surprised by the price - over 30€ is something for a brush... But maybe the price is understandable when it is for foundation, but still.... Maybe Sigma is upping their game as I've seen a lot of videos where their recent palettes have been praised for the quality and colour variety, it feels like they're becoming more known little by little for their palettes, too. I agree about the horrible NYX packaging: it always turns me off buying any of their eye shadow palettes, it just looks so cheap and the colours sometimes look so murky and off putting. There is this one palette with lots of red colours, I thought it looked interesting on the internet but when I saw it in person, I felt lied to and the packaging just was so meh it didn't make me want to even touch it or buy it. The eyeliners that I've bought are good, but the palettes never made me want to buy any of them.
I love my Cover FX Power Play concealer to this day, plus their foundations and powders are good. Exciting? No. Good? Yes. I agree about NYX, but they're my go to for brows and liquid liner, plus their lipsticks are good. The Balm is boring, but their bronzers (plus other highlighters and blushes) are perfection. Dose of Colors liquid lips are awesome and I use them a lot, plus their 5 pan palettes are so easy and nice (wait for a sale though).
Every kylie products are on sale on ulta the concealers are $5 the blush bronzer and highlighters are $8 the liquid lips kits are all like $12 or $16 and they don’t have her bullet lips anymore but they were on sale a couple months ago

I think Makeup Geek could still do single shadows but just releasing mattes is not enough. If she came out with special formulas that'd lure people in. We have a similar influencer brand over here in Poland- Glamshop started way back and it also started out with singles and brushes. But now they make amazing pressed pigments and palettes. Well it's also way more affordable than Makeup Geek. I know I often buy matte singles too when ordering pressed pigments.

I really like NYX. I love all their lip products and the epic ink eyeliner. I’ve used their bronzers and a few other products. I’ve never had an issue with NYX
Also Lime Crime were on the pulse at the same time as J* for colourful lipsticks. My favourite colour of all time was Serpentina from Lime Crime, which has been discontinued because I guess green glittery lipstick doesn't sell well ? I found a liquid lipstick dupe which was a christmas collection from Medusa Makeup but that brand has been rebranded and the green glitter lip colour was limited edition so now I'm stumped on where to find something like it. I'm going to try a lipstick from KVD but the green doesn't have glitter in it, so maybe I'll try adding a glittery eyeshadow on top or something.

I love Sigma eyeshadows. The matts are very nice but I own similar ones from other brands - it’s the shimmers that are otherworldly ✨ if I had to compare the quality I would say Nabla is the closest but Sigma has better colour combinations for my skin ❤️
I actually love NXY, but I only buy the cheaper side of their things such as their lip products-so good! Just their eyeshadow palettes are pretty pricey for drugstore. Other than that, NXY is still doing well and has their name out. The only drug store that I usually buy from is NYX, Maybelline, and Elf lol

And also, Lime Crime has been talked about on the internet with the freckle pen, the brow collection, their glosses and the Venus palettes, etc. I’m not sure why Angelika would include that brand on here when their releases have been hyped up on the alt side of the beauty community.

GOD, I LOVE THE VENUS II PALETTE! I have that one and I love the pigmentation and color story. It’s perfect for grungy makeup! Maybe it’s TMI but I’m olive medium (skin tone) and some colors usually don’t work with the greenish shade of my skin but I like how they show up over regular eyeshadow primer (the ones without color). The only complaint I have is with the green shade which is easy to blend but tends to look muddy if your brush is slightly wet (even if it’s your own oil from your eyelids) other than that I hope you’ll enjoy it! 🖤

Tarte's amazonian clay series used to be sooooo lit. The blushes and the gel eyeliner was my staple for like 5 years ??? I feel like when I bough from Tarte I hadn't really seen a bright coral blush like the one they had idk. When I would go overseas I would literally go to a sephora (before NZ had one) and replace my blush and eyeliner like damn

Lmao that comment about Nyx' packaging being bad is so real! I have one of their jumbo pencils (in milk) that I use as an eyeshadow primer and the cap on it is cracked all the way around from the bottom almost to the top, so I've had to put tape around it so it's actually still somewhat seal when I put the cap on. Yikes.
The tinted moisturizer from smashbox is pretty hyped up I think. At least is everywhere in my Instagram page lol.

It used to be the case (although it may have changed now), that Benefit used to operate a type of "one in, one out" policy, so that for every new item that was launched another item got discontinued. I think people may have got fed up of products that they liked being discontinued, although I completely understand that brands do have to continually refresh their ranges. Also their eyeshadow colours are always so dull and uninspiring!

I mean i think it depends on the brand. Like for me cover fx is a great brand because i have a allergy to a lot of fragrances and everything in most make up. A lot of brands aren't popular on the internet still make a lot of money consistantly. Even so a lot of popular internet brands have sometimes very overhyped products that are pushed by a lot of youtubers whether or not they are good. Ive brought things that are popular that aren't worth the money doesn't really matter what the packaging or popularity something has if the product doesn't deliver. Further more having a lot of launches pushes this idea of needing things that not everyone will use, its very fast fashion. I see so many youtuber videos of so many palettes and other make up people use once or use for only one video just to hype it up so they can push people into buying it. I know the point of the video was to just talk about not popular brands, just these are some of my thoughts when it comes to popular vs not popular. I know you touched on some of these same points.
I think we've reached a point where drugstore products are just as good (and sometimes even better) than high end brands, so if they don't amp up in creativity and formulas they're destined to sink
I remember when tarte was the it brand back then with their lipsurgence and Amazonian clay blushes. So disappointed to see what they are now
Stila and Tarte are still used and loved by older women. They aren’t geared to the Snowflake generation.
Benefit is used in many Hollywood studios, many models keep Benetint in their bags and all Ballerinas use Benefit as it was and still use for stage “trickery”

I have the Sigma enchanted and had the cor de Rosa. They are pretty but not my favorite formula. They fade on me quick. Their eyeshadow primer in the stick is really good though.
Benefits old stuff is pretty good like I love the roller lash mascara and hoola bronzer but they’re just not evolving with the times I guess

Dose of colors is one of my favorite brands. They’re not just liquid lips anymore. They have foundations and concealer which are my favorite formulas! Their eyeshadow formula are also amaaaaaazing! 100% would recommend!

I have an eyeshadow brand I love. Shimmers aren't spectacular, but the bright mattes are fab - Certifeye.
Another brand I like is Profusion. I have a couple of their palettes that are fantastic as well.
Lorac, Lique, and Beauty by Popsugar are three brands that are ALWAYS on sale at Kohl's. Always at like 50-65% off and always in huge stacks.
Too faced maximum plump doesn't work, but the original lip injections one and the extreme one really do!
Uhhh Dose of colours eyeshadows were a huge hit, and their Friendcation palette with desi & katy and all their influencer collabs were huge

I despise liquid lipsticks for the most part but if I want a red lip that’ll stay, I always go with my Dose of Colors one! It stays on well and isn’t nearly as uncomfortable as all the other liquid lips I’ve tried

I feel like ABH is going this way, it doesn’t have near as much hype as it use to. They still have some good products and launches, and like benefit I think a lot of people just replenish their same brow products, but I think all the palettes and stuff was total overkill and it made people not care as much about collecting and now it’s kinda dead
When I think of Smashbox I think of their primer which is advertised a lot more than their other products, at least here in Finland. I didn't even know that they made brushes before I bought one and I was so surprised by the price - over 30€ is something for a brush... But maybe the price is understandable when it is for foundation, but still....
Maybe Sigma is upping their game as I've seen a lot of videos where their recent palettes have been praised for the quality and colour variety, it feels like they're becoming more known little by little for their palettes, too.
I agree about the horrible NYX packaging: it always turns me off buying any of their eye shadow palettes, it just looks so cheap and the colours sometimes look so murky and off putting. There is this one palette with lots of red colours, I thought it looked interesting on the internet but when I saw it in person, I felt lied to and the packaging just was so meh it didn't make me want to even touch it or buy it. The eyeliners that I've bought are good, but the palettes never made me want to buy any of them.
I love my Cover FX Power Play concealer to this day, plus their foundations and powders are good. Exciting? No. Good? Yes.
I agree about NYX, but they're my go to for brows and liquid liner, plus their lipsticks are good.
The Balm is boring, but their bronzers (plus other highlighters and blushes) are perfection.
Dose of Colors liquid lips are awesome and I use them a lot, plus their 5 pan palettes are so easy and nice (wait for a sale though).

Every kylie products are on sale on ulta the concealers are $5 the blush bronzer and highlighters are $8 the liquid lips kits are all like $12 or $16 and they don’t have her bullet lips anymore but they were on sale a couple months ago
