and in fairness, foxes _aren't_ wolves, but they are the wolf's slutty cousin

I imagine Julia's first drawing is the actual middle evolution between Pikachu and Raichu, but her second drawing doesn't evolve into anything. If you mess up and get the rat, that's it.

Her second one is what your Pikachu evolves into if you don't evolve your Pikachu for 99 levels. I think you hit level 100 and the Pikachu evolves and you can't stop it evolving this time so you're like "ugh, weird, ok well i guess i have a raichu now" but then its this

Smearkachu is clearly the intermediate evolution between Pikachu and Mimikyu. Shellshockachu had to watch their loved one go through that enmeltening.

Julia being upset about the lack of a „baby“ stage for pokemon is such a mood, y‘all should draw that some time 😂
The funny thing is there ARE some explicitly baby Pokemon (who can't reproduce obviously) which started in Gen 2 when Gold/Silver/Crystal introduced the Daycare and eggs, giving some Pokemon like Pikachu and Jigglypuff baby pre-evolutions, so Julia's confusion is kind of valid.
I think the weirdest part of that is baby evolutions never being able to breed, no matter their level or how long ago they hatched. Meanwhile, if you're trying to breed, idk, Eevee for stats and you hatch one that's female with better IVs you can throw that level 1, 5 minutes old Eevee in the daycare/picnic with your hexaperfect level 100 male Arcanine and you'll have more Eevee eggs in no time
the pokemon life cycle really makes no sense if you think of them as animals existing and reproducing in the wild. and the fact that they can be contained in a pokeball, stored in a computer, etc.

Like I remember that originally in the anime miniaturization was explained as a quality of the technology of Pokeballs, but since in PLA they wanted you to be able to hand craft pokeballs they were like "Oh no, them being able to turn miniature is actually just.... uh... how all pokemon are! Yeah! They can just turn small sometimes"
IIRC the PC system has pretty consistently been explained as using the teleporter made by Bill, and then the anime shows the teleported mons hanging out with the Professor, but how on earth would the prof have enough room to store the 300 Scythers I've hatched trying to get a shiny one?
I've moved on from questioning all this stuff so long ago that every time they try to address it in a game, like how they refer to pokemon being eaten and eating each other in a few places in Scarlet/Violet, it just reminds me of how little sense the world actually makes lol
@Jaygorian1 They referred to Pokemon eating other Pokemon since the first gen (lol plus people eating Pokemon and trying to explain physics in various entries) but yeah it's wild! I think the thing is game mechanics makes it more complex than it needs to be but if you examine it from a general world-building perspective, don't follow the games as closely, and view them as yokai or just some form of supernatural creatures with their own rules that don't follow the natural world 100% of the time then Pokemon mostly works. It's still kind of nonsensical but it was never meant to be entirely realistic. Seeing attempts to separate Pokemon from their mechanics and portraying them in a semi-realistic world setting brings me untold joy because then they feel more real and I think that's all the various nonsense needs.
Julia always impresses me with how unpredictable she is. Gets a pokemon design challenge and she just?? Makes it a smear frame??? Love her so much

The tone of voice Jacob uses at 28:09 when he says “I don’t think you have any good reason to be doing this” really encapsulates a lot of his and Julia’s interactions on these sorts of episodes.
Also, my favorite part of these Pokémon videos is when sometimes Nathan comes up with actual theoretical meta strategies for using the Pokémon in game play, like at 36:37, because he’s really that kind of pokemon nerd (affectionate)
With Julia’s confusion about the idea of a baby drowzee, you should do this again except add a pre-evo baby for 2-pokemon evolution lines. Or a beefier third evolution.

One of my favorite middle evolutions is Wartotle, who INEXPLICABLY gets poofy ears and a tail, and then BAM it is gone for Blastoise. No explanation. It's like he had a drama phase or something.

somebody mentioned this in one of Drawfee's tier list streams, actually! iirc they said Wartortle was supposed to be a different Pokémon, but got made into Squirtle's middle evo instead without being changed too much.

Somehow in the first 10 minutes Julia stumbled upon two perfect idea for future episodes: drawing baby preevolutions of things(probably pokemon but not necessarily), and drawing personifications for entire tv series.
I really wanted Julia to be given Remoraid and Octillery just to see her try and figure that mess out. Given how confused Drowzee and Hypno made her, I can only imagine good things

The Cheers Tournament arc ends with Coach sacrificing his life to keep the bar from...I dunno, exploding or something. His final words are to Woody, to whom he simply says, "It's your turn...to serve the drinks now..." before smiling and fading away as he crosses over into another dimension.

Suggestion:
In the 80s, there was a series of plush toys called Wuzzles. Each Wuzzle was a combination of two very different animals: Bumblelion, for instance, was part lion and part bumblebee. How's about each taking a Wuzzle character, and drawing the non-adorable combination of those two animals.
I think mightyena fits the description of emo teenage dog pretty well, even if it's supposedly a hyena 🤷🏼♀️

Mega Absol is probably the most ""Sparkle Wolf"" of all
Pokémon. You got the asymetrical side hair bangs covering one eye and the neck fluff turns into psuedo-angel wings. It also plays up the half angel and half devil look by making the head horns and tail more dramatic and demonic looking.

Fun fact: Drowzee is based on a baku, a Japanese spirit believed to eat dreams. For very long, baku were pictured as composite animals with an elephant's trunk. However, when the tapir was discovered, it reminded Japanese people so much of their baku, that they named the tapir 'baku' as well. And then of course some artists started depicting the baku as a tapir.

They should have had them do baby evolutions since giving the Vulpix line a middle evolution like Karina did would have the devs rework the evolution chain since the way to evolve Vulpix into Ninetails would be to use a Firestone, meaning either the middle evo would rework the evo chain or the baby version would be the new beginning chain. I can recall that Vulpix was actually supposed to have a baby version in Gen 2 with 3 tails to go with Vulpix’s 6 tails, and Ninetails’ 9... You get the idea.

This is a really interesting prompt since, as someone who tried to make up Pokemon before, the middle evolution is always the hardest one to design.
Alternative names (*I have not looked through the rest of the comments so apologies if there's some idea overlap): Drowsy > Melatony (derivative of melatonin) > Hypno,
Vulpix > Kitzukid (kitsune + kid + gratuitous 90's Z) > Ninetales
And Pikachu > Joulechu (joule being a unit of energy and something that sounds similar to Julia) > Raichu 😁

I think it's hilarious but idk when Julia went from the mysterious kinda intimidating persona to just full on goofy and no one knows what goes on in her head, which tbf was always the case, but it's different if you know what I mean haha, hope someone understands what I mean
