To those saying “hasbros worse” that wasn’t the point of the video. It was why I don’t like how Todd mcfarlane is running his line. I plan on making a hasbro video as well. Just know it’s not as bad as mcfarlanes. (Also yes I know micheal messed up with the halo figure😭)
Nice video man, and yeah, I don't think Hasbro is as bad as McFarlane has been with the DC Multiverse line, except for the Black Series, that's one the most mediocre figures line ever in my opinion, even the vintage collection ones are better. Anyway, you make some really good points, I'm curious about your opinion on Hasbro, they have made some of my favorite figures in my collection but they're still making a lot of mistakes like they think all collectors are fools with mindless conformity and low standards
I live in Tokyo, I have a pretty big collection. NFT action figures? Yeah nah, I don’t think that’ll fly here. Japan isn’t as ‘technologically’ accepting as some may think. What a video though mate, thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it!
I don't even understand how that would work, like that idea can't exist, I know that the only appeal to NTFs products is the token that comes with the image or whatever but how do you turn a physical toy into an NFT friendly product? I know at least a couple of crypto bros will buy a couple to resell the token, but how is a collector supposed to collect toys while not owning them physically? Unless they're just normal NFTs I don't see how that shit works.
Also like, its so phenomenally incorrect?! Japan?! Not having a figure market?!?!? Japan?! FUCKING JAPAN!??!?! FUCKING JAPAN DOESNT HAVE A MARKET FOR FIGURE COLLECTORS?!?!?! JAPAN?!?! Might as well have said Japan doesn't have any industry for animation!
Meanwhile Bandai is making Gundam Metaverse Project with "NFT" Gundam merch...... 🗿 Poor choice of words, ma boi..... 🗿 Now let's see what catastrophic failure would the Gundam Metaverse be in the future 😂🤣😂🤣
@@ssbbc2561 sure I guess but hey there are some girl collectors out there however small. And hey they also market mostly too adult collectors they really don’t have many excuses not to.
Regarding his stance on the “girl figures”, I really think he’s just an old dude living in the 70s/early 80s. I’m pretty sure when I was a kid, I’ve always made sure my parents knew which character i was after when buying me a toy
he’s mostly business now. He’s not making decisions based on personal preferences 30 years ago. He’s just using the data he has. But the data would look much better if he put one classic female in each wave (supergirl, Wonder Woman, etc) and not a random story specific female.
@@BB-ed4om Maybe he should take a short look at the data of the much bigger anime/manga figures market then, but that would of course also require of him to stop living in the past.
@@gunchar06The thing is his data is corrrect for children at around the 5 to 11 year old range...the thing is that data is IRRELEVANT to his figure line cause it has always been marketed has a teen or adult collectible where that data would be bloody useless at that point.
The female figures are just as good in my opinion. You can't have just females and just males. They both compliment each other. Imagine just having an action figure collection with just male characters, that sucks. As long as you do the female figures right, I have no issue with them.
I 100% agree with you the problem that Todd McFarlane zealots is missing he's trying to say that people are asking for an all female action figure line and I have never heard of anyone asking for an all female action figure line but we do like female action figures with our collection of male superheroes. Like who doesn't want a CLASSIC Wonder Woman or a Zatanna action figure or even Supergirl? Heck I would love a teen Titans line with Donna Troy or Starfire but the way Tom McFarlane just keeps concentrating on Batman will never get that. It's not good at all
It shows his mentality when he says "batman, superman, hulk, captain america.. But then theres this GIRL" No not just some girl some of the greatest heros in DCs archives are women. Its so weird.
Ya'all serious? Who wants Female figs from Hasbro _Legends_ when *they're All the same 15yr old [tween body] girl buck;* Firestar, Kitty 3 pack, AoA Rogue, All the movie Cpt Marvel's, Powers of X Jean, Storm 2 pk, new Madam Hydra, ((Even SHE-HULK didn't have her Torpedo's)) WtF! An Never mind other "Femine" Sculpts- HAPPILY living up to Woke Disney standards. I.e. the Flat Chests on both the New "King Valkyrie" fig (cause the "Queen" moniker is now sexist) & -Lady- Thor, who doesn't like being called "Lady" anymore.. Because of some New Fake, idealogue Leftist Social Construct. What A Joke! While the Solid POWER HOUSE; New Avengers Spider-Woman (Finch) Legends, Moonstone & Rogue Retro card- actual Breasts having buck sits on the tolling shelf. SMH
For a guy who is old enough to remember the 80's and 90's his comment is stupid, Star Wars had Prince Leia. G.I. Joe had Lady Jaye & Baroness. He-man had Teela and Evil-Lyn. Thundercat had Cheetara. SilverHawks had Steelheart. Super Power (by the way, I don't like McFarlane's new version for this line) had Wonder Woman. The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles had April O'Neal. I think that Todd is using the sales of the female figure as an excuse to not make them, but rather Mcfarlane sees it in the lack of reuse of the mold to make other figures, which I think shows his lack of creativity (yeah, the guy who created Spawn... nuff, said!). Tood is long overdue in creating some female DC characters.
What’s crazy is that there are really good figures in the line, which is actually more infuriating because it shows that they do know how to make them, they just don’t most of the time. Look at the MK spawn, Violator, Raven Spawn, etc. Noob Siabot is practically in 6in scale and has proportions that look like they would actually belong to a human with decent articulation. It’s like they only put in the effort when they feel like it. It’s also surprising how great the details were in the early 2000s but I guess most of the talent left for Neca.
@@ligmaballz334 That reminds me of how McFarlane drew stretched characters body proportions for fights or cool poses during his run on The Amazing Spider-man comics back in the late 80s to early 90s
A friend of mine would always act appalled when I say I bought One hot toys batman or a Mezco figure. But over the course of a month, they would show me 7-8 mcfarlane or Hasboro toys they bought. Some people are generally all about the instant gratification instead of using patience and appreciating high quality. Nice video my man
You got to give this man credit, because all the issues he talked about were spot on with McFarlane figures. Batman has the most figures out of any other character. I know I know he loves Batman but it shouldn't be about what Todd likes more than what buyers want. If he was just making the figures for himself to show off then fine make a billion different Batman figures. However, Todd is making them for sale to a customer base. I have seen many comments in figure release posts by Todd or other TH-cam collectors asking for characters such as Zatanna, Red Tornado, Star Girl, Vandal Savage, Lagoon Boy, or a good Wonder Woman. Then you see another Batman Two Face figure instead LMAO. Seriously he put out Blue Beetle and Booster Gold in a two pack with no hands and then put out a classic Blue Beetle with hands and calls it a Gold Label. For me its the lack of articulation of the figures. Yes, I rather pay the $100+ dollars for the Mafex or Mezco figures because they come with cloth material capes and more accessories than a $30 Platinum figure with no hands and a simple card. Marvel Legend figures are better than McFarlane figures. Not only do you get more accessories but many of them are also cheaper.
I was just thinking to myself ... If you live in Tokio in a 600 square feet appartment ... maybe you don't have the money to collect in the first place, particularly not investing in some digital crap that might lose all of its value overnight. But it fits with his overall attitude to what he's doing. He's completely out of touch with reality and modern times all together 😬
I have family in Japan and spend about one month a year there. I can confirm that apartments are tiny (600 sq ft is not out of the ordinary) and big collections are difficult. For those who do have bigger collections, things like boxes and packaging are usually sacrificed. I can also confirm that McFarlane Toys used to be next to impossible to find there, but have recently become much more common with the DC Multiverse line. However, I don't think many people are buying them, as they're frequently the only figures I see on discount.
Even then how are NTFs going to solve the issue? Like it's not a toy collection if the buyer doesn't have physical access to the toys, so they're really just JPEGs with a token, which would be interesting for like a couple crypto guys only interested in reselling that shit later as a premature investment in the next big thing, but this doesn't solve the issue of space for collectors living in small spaces, it's just another product they're likely not going to be interested in, Mc Farlane really has no clue how to run a buisness, how this line is still going is beyond me.
So big collections are rare but not impossible, still doesn’t mean you can’t have a large enough collection, it’s not like every collector here in America has a room full of full shelves and a basement stacked with figures, NFTS aren’t gonna solve any problems anyways
I also live in japan, where I live my apartment has small living space but a lot of storage space so sometimes I’ll pull out figures and pose them on my display case whenever I feel like a particular character or figure needs some love or I’m in the mood to display it
I used to not like these McFarlane DC figures mostly because they were too big and out of scale with the more common DC 6 inch figures. I do like the sculpts and paint on them and I do agree that we need some good Wonder Woman figures. I also agree that the variants, gold label and platinum label really aren’t that desirable. I work in a collectible shop and I think I’ve only sold 1 platinum label since this line has been in existence. The other thing I noticed recently is that the legs are too long for the torsos and that really bothers me. My favorite ones so far are the Swamp Thing, Red Hood and Batman Beyond. So, I guess I do agree that they have discrepancies but in recent days the figures have grown on me.
This video made me realize how much my father is getting robbed. He's a collector and a big DC guy, he would never understand the things explained in this video but I can. McFarlane should be ashamed of himself
When he talked about female figures in toylines he might of had a point when it comes to toy lines aimed for young boys (6-10 years) like females some times don't sell well compared to the males or in some case take forever to be in the line, but DC Multiverse is aimed for older teens to young adults. So He's treating the line just like the batman TAS toy line (shit tons of batmen & little to no other characters).
That's not a McFarlane Master Chief. That's the Jazwares series 3 release that was notorious for having bad knees. McFarlane made halo figures but that was back in like 2012.
After re-watching this video and Todd talking about how kids don’t want female action figures does he not remember that this line is for a collectors 15 and up. Kids may not want those female action figures but us adult collectors do.
I've only bought 4 of his figures so far and I think they're decent quality (maybe I got lucky) I'll admit the dissapointment of lack of accessories. Also, lack of females. I don't mind the 7 inch scale but we could cut back the amount of batmen.
STOP IT! McFarlane's Red AZRAEL was an annual TOP 5 fig period- 2 years back when it came out.. Today, Ultraman; _Earth3 Supes_ w/ the Starro Baf for $25 is Cold Fire! McFarlane's Evil Shazam Sculpt & _New52 Demon Knights_ Etrigan (for $20), are just as good if not better than any _Legends BaF_ in the last 3yrs! & Todd will put Torpedo's on the girls (Evil Superwoman in-coming), Unlike W-O-K-E Hasbro & *that sorry excuse for A She-Hulk figure.* Plus all those 15yr old Girl tween bucks that Hasbro has been using for the Last 2 or 3yrs (AoA Rogue, Firestar, New Madam Hydra, Kitty from the Excalibur 3 pk, Siryn, Shriek, New _"Mary Sue"_ American Chavez, Eternals Makkari, Retro card Sue Storm, _What If_ Nebula, First appr. Storm from the TARGET 2 pk, C'mon now! I could keep going.. Plus his Prof. ZOOM _Thawne_ fig is the best version available for the Reverse Flash Character to date.
@@floorboss Out of all the Mcfarlane figures you put. Azreal was the only good one and he’s a statue. He can move his right arm. I guess. Every other figure is cheap trash. That superwoman sucked man.
His current figures aren't perfect. However, he was smart in releasing his line of DC figures that people would want. I collected his earlier figures back in the 90s and '00s. I prefer those much better.
@@InstantShiningW SAME, it looks more for kids and if that was Todd's intention, I understand. He's continuing to plant figures for the next generation of McFarlane Toy collectors.
@@InstantShiningW Yeah, I wish he made the figures look more for adults. Then I'd probably be all over the DC figures. Also, I wish he made 12 inch figures to compete with Hot Toys/Threezero, etc. Heck, I wish he'd make statues! People would love it, I don't know why he won't do it.
The crazy part about the "well it's only $20 argument is that for just 35 dollars you can get an insane neca figure, like the jungle hunter predator that's just insane, came with extra hands, an extra head sculpt with helmet off and accessories not to mention great proportions and it looks amazing. Talk about value
When Todd said that peoples in japan can’t have a big collection, that made me think of displaying model behavior who live in Japan and have a big collection (with no McFarlanes figures what so ever)
Thank goodness I'm collecting the Mattel JLU line again. That line is atleast diverse and hits me hard in the nostalgia spot. Also, DC Icons was god tier. Still sad that it ended. Because it's a great toyline. Also, consistent sculpts. And yes,I collect female figs. And want a Buffy The Vampire Slayer toyline.
I met Todd once years ago. He was incredibly rude, and totally full of himself. Incredibly arrogant. His argument about female figures is just dumb. The few kids who still collect figures will want the male characters first, but that doesn’t mean they don’t want females at all! My son had quite a Justice League animated figure collection, and he had Wonder Woman, Supergirl, Zatana, etc alongside all the male heroes. Why? Because he wanted as many Justice League characters as possible, regardless of their sex. Also, no one is asking for full waves of females…just to have more in the release schedule. Instead of 87 different Batman figures, maybe throw in some ladies like Black Canary, Zatana, Huntress, and…oh yeah….a classic comic Wonder Woman???!!!!
There’s so many cool characters I would love to see, but probably never will because Todd seems to be obsessed with giving us so many Batman variants, and having unmasked ones instead of just including an alternate head. I would love to see characters like Copperhead get a figure, and Cheeta.
In my personal opinion, every action figure ,ie: hasbro, mcfarlane ,mafex, Mezco and , Neca should COME WITH interchangeable hands . No interchangeable hands made the multiverse unchained superman disappointing for me .
Fact is Todd puts most of his heart into the Spawn figures. Everything else in an afterthought. Some of the worst paint, sculpts and faces amongst the DC characters. The side eye and the weird hands and no accessories besides the card and stand. I really miss the DC collectibles line
For real though What DC Multiverse Mcfarlane Toys annoys me: 1. No interchangable heads: Why do they have to release multiple different figures with just different heads? They can just put interchangable head... It's just too annoying for me (Example: One masked Batman figure and another one but unmasked Batman figure) 2. Lack of accessories: Arkham Origins Deathstroke is what made me love Mcfarlane Toys' DC Multiverse figures... But one of the issues of this figure is the lack of accessories... Like- one sword? Mercenaries like Deathstroke should come with at least 3 accessories, then I'll be happy 3. Lack of articulation: Again, Arkham Origins Deathstroke is the reason why I started loving a few figures by Todd... But Arkham Origins Deathstroke's few major issues are not just lack of accessories, but also lack of articulation for someone too flexible and agile character... *In summary of my opinions of DC Multiverse figures:* It got alot of major issues, but I don't take it seriously... As a Marvel Comics' fan, I am collecting alot of Marvel figures than DC figures... To be honest Deathstroke is my only DC figure, because as a hardcore Marvel Comics' reader, I appreciate Deathstroke alot even as he is a DC character... I read hundreds of comics about Deadpool (Especially Gerry Duggan's comic-run)... Everything my TH-cam account is about, it's about Deadpool... So now it's kind of obvious why I love Deathstroke as a character...
Ok. I own a Wonder Woman in the golden armor and it's still in the package because I want it to be a display piece. But HOLY SHIT. After seeing this video, that Wonder Woman is staying in its original packaging forever.
I agree with a lot of things you've said, like the quality control, lack of hands, 7 inch scale, etc. I get how it's very frustrating to out of box collectors. It doesn't bother me too much, though, because I don't open the figures. So, I don't have to worry about the arm breaking, lack of hands, whatever. McFarlane has flaws, like those grey variants. If Todd wants to do chase variants, he should atleast do chase variants that are actually cool. For example, like how the Toybiz ML x men Cyclops had a chase figure with the x factor costume. Something like that was cool. I do want Todd to do more figures than just Batman, I'd die for characters like Mr. Freeze, Poison Ivy, Blue Beetle, Scarecrow, etc. I still like his figures, well, most. But you did make valid points, and I respect them
@@FancyNancyFr There's a big amount of people who collect figures but don't open them, like me. I prefer my figures to be minty fresh in the packaging, especially if the packaging has some nice art.
Either tod doesnt remember being a kid or he grew up before any modern ip lines cuz that justification for not having female toy is not only ass but doesnt make sense, and if he is worried for poor collectors that dont have space for a big ass colection of random batman they should be high quality or people would straight up go upscale and buy a better more expensive line
I recently bought their Lobo figure. Because I'm a big Lobo fan and try to collect anything I can. And I think my biggest gripe, despite the awkward proportions make the articulation all weird, not being the biggest fan of the sculpt they went with, and the torso being a different pale than the head. Is there are elements that are sculpted in that very clearly look like they should be painted, that just aren't. It's like a proper paint job is the bare minimum you can do to keep your figure from looking flat, and they couldn't even do that. This probably wouldn't frustrate me as much. If I didn't just see their new Black Adam movie figure... And it has the same goddamned problem!!
Japan here, what he said is nonsense, ain’t that hard to have a shelf of figures in the corner lol, NFTs can suck it. Also I wish Mcfarlane would more often, let other companies take a crack at Spawn characters.
Dude is so far out of line. As a 9 year old boy, the one thing I dreamed of as a kid was having a Rogue figure to finish my X-Men line. There was never good Rogue figures. He’s SORELY misunderstanding and misrepresenting the fan base. I would give anything to have a good Starfire and Raven or a good Wonder Woman or Black Canary. He just seems sexist 💀
Ask transformers fans who watched Prime and most will tell you they liked Arcee in that show 😂 Or Gwen Stacy who became super popular characters with kids after Into the Spiderverse
When he went in on female figures - I was like jeez man. Hawkgirl, Poison Ivy, and a Wonder Woman would easily be bought by any guy. Ridiculous. The serial killer thing was despicable.
its also ironic when you also consider that mcfarlane's older figures (prior to dc multiverse) are also grotesque ie: humpty dumpty, mangaverse clown, etc.
Literally two days later too I was in a store and I saw this little kid get so excited over a Wonder Woman funko pop he’d mistakenly identified as “Queen Hippolyta” and then get so excited about an Invisible Woman funko pop he showed it to his parents Young boys definitely care about female characters
He’s got an army of fanboys and reviewers praising every thing he does, so no wonder he won’t change anything. He was only forced to add articulation because they all wanted it. If enough people demand change he may do it, but not currently with so many fanboys kissing his ass
I know Hasbro isn’t perfect but at least the quality for the most part is pretty good, they reuse sculpts but at least they are good sculpts, articulation is decent, and personally I just really like how they feel in my hand
Bro for $30 now Hasbro has gone to shit most of the figures have stupidly gummy limbs compared to figures from one or two years ago the paint is absolutely abysmal and you can’t even buy them online anymore without getting scam because of the fucking packaging
@@gabrielmorenomartinez3137 Remember when the boxes had windows, and the average legend was 20 bucks? I got a thirty dollar legend. Yeah. THAT is what 30 dollars should get you. Most of the 30 dollar legends now, would barely be worth 15 from anyone else. Thank GOD the Iron man Thanos 2 pack is where I stopped. Cause legends now SUCK
@@farronblaze2952 I know right Hasbro has their head so deep up their ass they’re trying to sell a $50 car for 300 and they know they can get away with it when they be selling the same repainted body for $30
Their singular super skinny female sculpt is 20 years outdated and the articulation is next to non existent. I bought the “dark phoenix” because the head looked cool. The body is completely flat, no ab crunch, no calf or boot swivel (cannot crouch without her feet pointing all the way outwards like a 🦆) imo it needs a serious update. The reason their new Spider-Man’s are awesome is because they can actually pose and have specific body types (mcu peter vs amazing fantasy vs modern more buff peter). These little nuances don’t exist with their female figures.
Ok after watching the video, I want to say that I respect your opinions and the points you bring up. The video was entertaining too. To be honest I only buy some of McFarlane because it's just figures I really want that no other company put out yet. I do hate a lot of the practices he does and holy shit the amount of Batman. I only buy his figures when it's something I really want because of the budget I work on. Anyways, I really enjoyed the video again and I'm glad you went so thorough with it.
As a person who bought some of the DC Multiverse figures, this video really changed my opinion on McFarlane toys. I may be hard on Hasbro sometimes for the shit they put out, but every single Marvel legends and Transformers generations figures are super solid and have great QC and accessories. Todd’s Dc line gets on my nerves a lot of times because I want so many iconic DC characters like Mr. Freeze, classic Wonder Woman, and yet the focus is on super niche appearances like Dark Knight returns Joker, and… McFarlane Wonder Woman? I don’t see these figures selling as much as something like the Snyder cut figures because it’s like…who cares…that and the lack of accessories. Love this video breakdown.
Todd McFarlane focuses on niche versions of characters because previous DC lines (e.g. DC Collectibles Essentials, DC Comics Multiverse, etc) have already released figures of the traditional versions. So, Todd is taking the opportunity to release versions of characters that have never been made into action figures and probably would never be made into action figures otherwise. I own over 130 of Todd's DC figures, and I like them a lot.
when the retro card gwen stacy came out my grandma bought it for my bday and l was extremely happy, I didnt ask ohh any electros any green gobins i didnt ask for anything. i have no clue what bull crap todd was talking about. (its just better to have varieties of different characters)
Nah dead ass i bought a superman and shit came with a broken leg 2 times💀 And now the legends figures are dealing with a similar problem where the pain is just ass💀
I find it so ironic that Todd doesnt like too much articulation bc it looks ugly, when his style of Spiderman is in such extreme ass poses. So like if he ever made a Spiderman figure, it prolly wouldn't have enough articulation to get it accurate to his artworks lmaoo Mad respect for Todd tho, even if those claims in the Shartimus Prime interview was questionable af. The only McF figures I own -- not many -- are from the '90s and still on card. It was always obvious to me that what Todd considered "cool" got preferential treatment. As far as his Batman fetish, what he could/should do is produce figures based on the many legendary artists who drew the character: Neal Adams, Marshall Rogers, Michael Golden, Jim Aparo, and so on. AND include supporting characters and villains.
Fun Fact: I actually met Todd at a local convention, and well i'm guessing he was in a bad mood, because when I went to go see him he saw me and said some REALLY RACIST things to me, as i'm an Asian.
WTF did he say about female superhero figures?? WHAT? Also, my mom got me April O'Neil, Storm, Pink Ranger, Catwoman etc. to go with all the male figures too. I liked having everyone. Also, no one said they wanted an entire line of female figures. What was that bit about the serial killer? WTF
As a kid, they made Naruto figures, but they never made a Sakura figure, so I only had Naruto and Sasuke. I still really wanted her to go with them, and I looked all over the place for one One day we went to a Chinese mall in my area, and there was this anime store there and they had a Japanese import Sakura figure with interchangable arms and heads for sale, She let me buy it because she knew I really wanted her, and let me tell you, I played with that thing all the time. Still have her actually.

I'm not t he biggest DC fan, I prefer Marvel myself, that being said I was really excited as a collector for the McFarlane DC line ...... Right out of the gate I got an Animated Batman and Animated Superman as I loved those cartoons from the 90's ...... at this point, 2 years later, these figures have never been able to stand on their own and I had to paint in one of Batman's eyes because it came unpainted. I picked up a Wonder Woman standard and the later the Gold suited WW from the second movie, both came brand new with loose joints and requires special stands to sit on a shelf. After that I got Black Mantis, the only one out of all 5 figures that had no issues ..... I made the decision well over a year ago that the 5 I have will be the only 5 I will have ...... The QC just isn't there and quite honestly, whenever I see new figures at retail, none of them impress me ..... All that being said, I have noticed much better QC and better looking figures from McFarlane's Spawn line
I'd rather pay $80 for MAFEX which is high quality, greatly articulated and sculpted, and overall just looks badass, than pay $20 from something that looks and feels like it came from a flee market. Also love the content bro, keep it up!
@@edstar83 Did you watch the fucking video mate? I have 3 of these figures and the quality control, articulation, accessories, looks and feels. But you're right, these figures aren't bad. They're terrible.

From my point of view, i do like the few mcfarlane figures that i have, and theres a very good reason for why i dont pick up many, i think a lot of the best aspects from the mcfarlane line comes in some the sculpt work, while paint, articulation, and accessories seem to always be lacking, though sometimes even the sculpts arent right. Regardless the ones i do have, im very happy with the looks, but they definitely wont be doing much other than just stand there
I just went to the full interview video and I’m in awe of the denial that these people are in. Absolutely zero objectivity. It was almost cult like. I can understand SP not really going in on him because he doesn’t want to lose access, but the way he was simping was embarrassing.
Boys won't want Female superheroes?? That's bullshit. Do you know how much I would love for Bandai to make a Layer figure from Mega Man X? Or how much DC fans would love for a middle class, original Wonder Woman figure? I'm getting major narcissistic vibes from Todd here.
I kinda agree with you, deffinetly this dc line has a lot of issues but at the end most of the figures on this line are worth buying, but what I really hate about mcfarlane dc figures is the fact that we barelly get new characters out of batman, I really wish an arkham City cat woman or an injustice 1 green arrow.
My dad (before he left me) bought me the classic doomguy mcfarlane figure and it was a decent figure. My only problem with the mcfarlane figures is their articulation and their size, they're just too big to fit with my marvel figures, doomguy is fine he's always bigger but the rest of dc figures we're too gigantic. I wish the doomguy figure has more articulation thats all I want.
the problem you mentioned with the batman figure having a varient that has an unmasked head has been done a couple times outside of the dc line. the closest example is the mirio figure from the mha line which mirio has 2 figures and they are the exact same same Accessories except one has an angry face 😐
As someone who collects Todd's figures, this is a good video. You detail some of Mcfarlane's most important issues and then some, heck it's the reason why I first subbed when I watched this video. However, this video probably would've been better if you bought some of Mcfarlane's other offerings. Not only could you look at figures that are genuinely fantastic (like the Knightfall Azrael Batman), but you could've talked about more issues, like the Year Two Batman having 4 sets of hands with 2 different glove patterns (one being smooth and the other having a tactical look) or the First wave Superman coming with a trigger finger hand rather than another fist hand or Todd releasing a Robin figure that had 3 variants sold separately only to release all of them in one pack with the Batman who laughs figure also included. Besides that though, good video, although I do wish you could've talked about some more issues with his DC line of figures.
I collect McFarlane figures but I agree with you on every point I have a big problem with the feet being bent in my collection and paint issues I'm a huge DC fan but McFarlane definitely needs to do better
40 years male collector here. The McFarlane Harley Quinn I bought as the first thing ever from that company and the Adepta Sororitas I bought from the same company as the first WH40K action figure ever can't believe the comments of this complete idiot at the idea that males don't buy female figures. I started buying his stuff BECAUSE of female action figures, so I guess he made me a psycho killer? Oh and the Sailor Moon/Carcaptor Sakura/Disney Princess toys and Legos I own are laughing their asses like I've never seen them doing it before.
Was very much in shock I actually appeared in the vid,but was very happy to be along side everyone giving there opinions about on Todd Spectacular video of yours Criminal hope you keep up with this amazing content 👍👍👍. P.S. If this video doesn’t become trending TH-cams algorithm suck ass.
I’ve been collecting superhero figures for years and in that time I’ve maybe bought 10 McFarlane figures. I’ve made it a rule of thumb to not buy multiple versions of the same character though. I buy a figure for every new character he does, and sometimes they’re good! Notable examples are the new Wally West and John Stewart. I just want someone to get the license and not do 30 Batman figures. I drew the line at them throwing Batman in on the new green lantern wave. It’s ridiculous that there’s no doomsaday when he made a Earth 1 Batman, and no Hawkman when he made those giant wings with the Batman Who Laughs
I agree with Todd is outdated. In this day there’s no excuses for much better quality at this point. I agree a lot of figures he’s done are solid but more are trash in my eyes. At this point in colllecting I think MOST figures should come with not only multiple hands in different shapes, but also multiple different accessories if not one major one that gives story to the character. Also I get the figures have a cheap drive point at like 25 bucks but the bases we get with these figures are the clear plastic ones and I just hate that. That’s no effort.
40:35 Todd McFarlane: "You can't have a big collection" Good Smile Company/Bandai/Takara Tomy/Medicom Toys and other Japanese toy/collectible companies: Did we stutter?
As someone who has bought figures from this line, I agree with a vast majority of your points from an adult collector’s perspective. I get that Batman sells well and make figures specifically sell better than female ones with boys. But the point is-maybe there’s a happy medium there? Like cut 1 or 2 of the Batman figures (I work at Target and there’s a ton of peg warmers of Hazmat Batman and a couple others) and I think there’s room for some female figures, or even some others like the rest of the Teen Titans. Also as someone who was a 9 year old boy 13 years ago, I didn’t care if I got an action figure of a female character-in fact I remember getting hyped that my mom bought me Invisible Woman, Wonder Woman, and Black Widow for one of my birthdays. If i had a son who wanted to collect-I’d for sure ask him what he wanted and then sprinkle in some figures I thought were good to go along with his lineup (say he wanted Rebirth versions of Batman and Superman-I’d probs buy them and then try to get him a Rebirth Wonder Woman (if they had her) to round it out). I think the worst thing about most of the figures is the headsculpts. Rebirth Batman looks like he has chocolate on his face and almost of them have something….off about them. To anyone who cares I’ve got: DC 1000 Batman, AC 1000 Superman, John Stewart (Rebirth), Flash (Rebirth), Nightwing/Red Hood (New 52 2-pack), Batgirl (Rebirth), Batman (TAS), Batman (White Knight), Joker (White Knight), Batman (ZSJL), Superman (ZSJL), and Wonder Woman (1984). I plan on attempting to round out both Justice League teams (the comic team including the newest Aquaman and Martian Manhunter-I’m hoping to get a Hawkgirl and Wonder Woman eventually).
Oh and btw, I think I'll quit collecting. Don't like Marvel Legends, i'm not liking mcfarlane anymore, don't want to spend hundreds for mafex so... Maybe it's time to invest on bitcoin.
Sculpting and looks are amazing in Mcfarlane. Todd is well-known for loving statues and sculptures, so no wonder his figures look very good and big. But his figures' quality and reliability are horrible, especially the DC multiverse.
This was great, you have a lot of valid points. I think since McFarlane has too much control of own merchandise and too many yes men around him If you look at what’s been happening it almost seems like they are figuring everything up from scratch. I’m sure the joint system that each company has is a patent. So a lot of trial and error. I do hope feedback like this reaches him. A lot of fans are saying the same. We want classic dc heroes and villains -not all this extra new shit. I’m sure his sales reflect this at this point.
I buy McFarlane toys and products. I like his artwork and he is the creator of one of my favorite superheroes, Spawn. All of that being said, I agree with every single point in this video. Whether you support McFarlane toys or not, you can't deny there's objectively bad flaws in the DC Multiverse line from quality control issues, bad proportions, inaccuracies, lack of female characters, and Todd's Batman bias. I am saying this as someone who collects McFarlane DC Multiverse (although a more fitting name would be Batman Multiverse with other DC characters on the side).
i hate how he almost never gives fists and has those stupid trigger finger hands on almost everything in every one of his lines he gave ESCANOR yes THAT ESCANOR TRIGGER FINGERS!!!!!!
Funny story we were at target and I saw some McFarlane dc figures, and I asked my brother if I should give ‘em a shot and he just gave the most dead pan look and shook his head 😂
Mr. Todd lives in a different world inside his own head where everyone agrees with him because he is the main man. I respect him for what he did for the western action figure industry 25 years ago, by releasing action figures for a mature audience with mature contents he helped other companies to recognize action figures collecting wasn't just for kids. Those companies evolved, other companies with a different focus appeared and the community grew and evolved with all of this. Unfortunately McFarlane Toys wasn't able to evolve with it, they were partially responsible for this growth but they could not keep up with it. I believe the main responsibility for McFarlane Toys lack of growth falls on top of Mr.Todd himself. He's only able to see himself as a leader and never a follower, that in itself isn't a bad thing as long as the leader is able to learn and evolve, to grow, but when the leader fails to do that both the leader and the followers will get stuck, the group has a whole will eventually perish. McFarlane Toys has the means and the money the only thing stopping them from doing an excellent job is a bad team and a bad leader. In the end I agree, DC Multiverse SUCKS!!! Please stop buying them.
Idk why Mattel lost the dc license, I do know though that I wish they didn’t. They were getting pretty good at the end there. Plus they were in the process of making teen Titans. Mafex and mezco are both really expensive and even they don’t have a huge selection. Dc fans just kinda get the shaft unfortunately
While most is valid, argument definitely started to fall apart when u compared the line to dc essentials.. McFarlane multiverse Is 3 tiers better than that shit line, of no accessories, terrible paint apps, w figures that can’t stand up or pose, and don’t even have peg holes. Dc Icons would’ve worked better.
He did make a lot of valid points that’s hard to deny, but he talks about proportion which McFarlane figure do have, but fails to see DC Essentials gorilla arms and narrow chest. Also one person in the clips called a Jazwares Halo figure and McFarlane figure? What? Lol
One must be on severe heavy duty drugs for anyone to say that DC essential line was garbage compared to Todd McFarlane's Yikes (thank God I'm not a zealot or Cuck like that)

I agree. There's pretty much lack of paint job and wash to them, not like back in the day where mcfarland figures had phenomenal paint and details even though it didn't have articulation.
I've disliked this company since like 2015. I collect their walking dead line of figures and I remember halfway through the series they switched the scale from 5 inches to 7 inches. Having ocd, it pissed me off that they couldn't just keep the old line. Apparently I heard neca wanted to make walking dead figures but McFarlane wouldn't sell the rights so they are just holding on to it. So frustrating
so weird seeing Mcfarlane figures in this state, i remember in the mid 2000s his spawn lines were unmatched (granted they were more statue'y) wish he'd pull whatever vodo he had at that time back to this era. edit jesus christ that serial comment killed all respect i had for him holy shit

Lol Lego is better 😂😂

JAPAN?!?! Might as well have said Japan doesn't have any industry for animation!

he’s mostly business now. He’s not making decisions based on personal preferences 30 years ago. He’s just using the data he has. But the data would look much better if he put one classic female in each wave (supergirl, Wonder Woman, etc) and not a random story specific female.

Heck I would love a teen Titans line with Donna Troy or Starfire but the way Tom McFarlane just keeps concentrating on Batman will never get that.

funny the ONLY McFarlane fig I have is a female character. Tod sounds dumb.
The Noob Saibot figure apparently has one leg longer than the other.

Dang dude that’s a fact

He's right wonder woman never sells, but batman does.

Why? I really miss the DC collectibles line
Spawn line seems to have it's flaws as well
For real though
What DC Multiverse Mcfarlane Toys annoys me:
1. No interchangable heads:
Why do they have to release multiple different figures with just different heads? They can just put interchangable head... It's just too annoying for me (Example: One masked Batman figure and another one but unmasked Batman figure)
2. Lack of accessories:
Arkham Origins Deathstroke is what made me love Mcfarlane Toys' DC Multiverse figures... But one of the issues of this figure is the lack of accessories... Like- one sword? Mercenaries like Deathstroke should come with at least 3 accessories, then I'll be happy
3. Lack of articulation:
Again, Arkham Origins Deathstroke is the reason why I started loving a few figures by Todd... But Arkham Origins Deathstroke's few major issues are not just lack of accessories, but also lack of articulation for someone too flexible and agile character...
*In summary of my opinions of DC Multiverse figures:*
It got alot of major issues, but I don't take it seriously...

The serial killer thing was despicable.
Well..he said it but tons of other male figure companies do the same...I mean that's the industry. How many mafex women you see?
its also ironic when you also consider that mcfarlane's older figures (prior to dc multiverse) are also grotesque ie: humpty dumpty, mangaverse clown, etc.
Literally two days later too I was in a store and I saw this little kid get so excited over a Wonder Woman funko pop he’d mistakenly identified as “Queen Hippolyta” and then get so excited about an Invisible Woman funko pop he showed it to his parents
Young boys definitely care about female characters
@@macoy3943 yeah cause that definitely happens often
the serial killer thing is clearly a joke
He’s got an army of fanboys and reviewers praising every thing he does, so no wonder he won’t change anything. He was only forced to add articulation because they all wanted it. If enough people demand change he may do it, but not currently with so many fanboys kissing his ass
Id rather they went back to non articulated figures. Whack ass articulation means nothing, the old statue-like figures at least looked great.
Nah his figures are just that good. Especially since he’s keeping them at low prices

Bro for $30 now Hasbro has gone to shit most of the figures have stupidly gummy limbs compared to figures from one or two years ago the paint is absolutely abysmal and you can’t even buy them online anymore without getting scam because of the fucking packaging

LMAO!!! I was drinking water and almost got choked when the whole " Serial Killer Theory " came up!!!🤣
Can't believe a normal Wonder Woman McFarlane figure only came out just now
Ok after watching the video, I want to say that I respect your opinions and the points you bring up.
Did you just say every marvel legends are super solid, have great QC and accessories? How many marvel legends have you ever bought? One?

Nah dead ass i bought a superman and shit came with a broken leg 2 times💀
And now the legends figures are dealing with a similar problem where the pain is just ass💀
Fans dubbed it as “his” it isn’t his spidey fig. He has 1 but it’s under the pizza spidey mold
Fun Fact: I actually met Todd at a local convention, and well i'm guessing he was in a bad mood, because when I went to go see him he saw me and said some REALLY RACIST things to me, as i'm an Asian.
what did he say?
Maaan that's hard Im so sorry, but What did he say??
"So, when do we eat dog?"
- Todd McFarlane (allegedly).
Sorry you had to go through that
WTF did he say about female superhero figures?? WHAT? Also, my mom got me April O'Neil, Storm, Pink Ranger, Catwoman etc. to go with all the male figures too. I liked having everyone. Also, no one said they wanted an entire line of female figures. What was that bit about the serial killer? WTF
I hope McFarlane was joking about that last part.
As a kid, they made Naruto figures, but they never made a Sakura figure, so I only had Naruto and Sasuke. I still really wanted her to go with them, and I looked all over the place for one
One day we went to a Chinese mall in my area, and there was this anime store there and they had a Japanese import Sakura figure with interchangable arms and heads for sale, She let me buy it because she knew I really wanted her, and let me tell you, I played with that thing all the time.

Pretty sure the reason he got the “award” is because of how many people had to replace the figures that broke.
Not really worth buying
That dosent matter bud McFarland has 20x more issues then any action figuer line
@@susanaaranda1605 I was still talking about mcfarlane though lol I just was talking about their other license

Azrael is the go to figure for midfarlane defenders, being its one of their only decent figures theyve made
I collect McFarlane figures but I agree with you on every point I have a big problem with the feet being bent in my collection and paint issues I'm a huge DC fan but McFarlane definitely needs to do better

Spectacular video of yours Criminal hope you keep up with this amazing content 👍👍👍.
I a 19 year old, Just got me a Silk action figure. So yeah Mcfarlane is MID.

I loved dc icons. They didn't have the best articulation, but had awesome accesories, nice scupts and pait for the most part. I miss that line a lot.
Oh and btw, I think I'll quit collecting. Don't like Marvel Legends, i'm not liking mcfarlane anymore, don't want to spend hundreds for mafex so... Maybe it's time to invest on bitcoin.
Dc icons were 5 inch and some characters only had 3 accessories, they made some of the same mistakes McFarlane did but older=better, sorry I forgot.
Sculpting and looks are amazing in Mcfarlane. Todd is well-known for loving statues and sculptures, so no wonder his figures look very good and big. But his figures' quality and reliability are horrible, especially the DC multiverse.
Shartimus looks like he regretted interviewing Todd 💀
Todd’s mad he never pulled a female and took it personally 💀
That female figure story sounds like a personal experience 😂
This was great, you have a lot of valid points. I think since McFarlane has too much control of own merchandise and too many yes men around him
If you look at what’s been happening it almost seems like they are figuring everything up from scratch. I’m sure the joint system that each company has is a patent.
So a lot of trial and error. I do hope feedback like this reaches him. A lot of fans are saying the same. We want classic dc heroes and villains -not all this extra new shit.
I’m sure his sales reflect this at this point.
That master chief figure isn’t even McFarlane but it’s still got bad articulation
Todd picking Batmans be like: that's cool that's cool that's coo---
Funny story we were at target and I saw some McFarlane dc figures, and I asked my brother if I should give ‘em a shot and he just gave the most dead pan look and shook his head 😂
"Carefully, he's a hero"
As much as I like his Spawn figures, the DC line needs improving. I'm lucky enough that the only bad QC issue I have is the arm on Cyborg popping out.
" DC Multiverse SUCKS!!! Please stop buying them." nah, I don't think I will.
his figures are good value/quality.
McFarlane is an L but I love the Fnaf lego.
1:06 where did that carnage meme came from?
What? Lol
One must be on severe heavy duty drugs for anyone to say that DC essential line was garbage compared to Todd McFarlane's

Wow... That's a selfish dick move
I've been waiting 87 years for this video.
