I know the last time I got braids it had been a long time since I had a protected style and I was so lazy. It was a much needed break from styling my hair but did I keep it moisturized hell no. Daye La Soul Lol 😂, yes I’m a little bit older than you, so box braids are old school before Beyonce and it was the cheapest braids you could get, but they were a hit then too. We only used to pay $40-$50 for them and those were the nice ones at the shop. So when I looked into getting them a couple years ago and they were like $150 - $250 I almost fainted and learned how to do them myself. We paid $150-$200 for the tie zillions those tiny braids with human hair that was in too that lasted like three months. I have to remember like you that the younger group under you don’t really know what they are. In the 90’s that’s what we wore and Janet Jackson’s dookie braids from Poetic Justice. Lol 😂 which were jumbo box braids. So nothing new about none of them to me except $$$$. Lol 😂

I'm sorry, but you talk about reducing build-up while protective styling, but you didn't shampoo your hair which is key before braiding. Moisturising your hair while protective styling can be achieved very easily, but getting your hair really clean while protective styling is really difficult, which is why you prep-hair by first cleaning it well. Which allows your scalp to breath while protective styling, thus promoting heathy growth.
