What strikes me about the RSPCA officers filmed in this series, some of them quite young, is their very high level of professionalism when faced with animals who are in terrible health or welfare conditions. Although they feel revulsion, anger or distress at times, they still manage to remain polite, even empathetic towards the owners as they firmly insist on the measures that must be taken to remediate the poor creatures' situations, to the point that sometimes they must be taken away from those owners, as a last resort. They do try to help the owners to improve the home conditions, if they are willing to try. Obviously, deliberate cruelty demands immediate, forced removal of the pet or livestock, but very often educating and assisting the owner is an option. Hats off to heroes who help the helpless.

Are you new to the concept of trained professionals? It is what sets apart pretty much all law enforcement of advanced Europe, compared to 3rd world countries across the pond. This series is indeed a good example. Watch and learn how civilized countries deal with people breaking the law, be it animal cruelty or other laws.

@@maititikka8795 But people can be perfectly trained and still not be as kind as these workers are, as they work with the owners to try to better the situation for both themselves and their pets. Being a "trained professional" DOESN'T always mean that they're kind people.🙄🥺🙄
I'm curious which 3rd world countries 'across the pond' that you might be referring to?

This is in the UK. Dogs can drop weight if they smell another female in the neighborhood. When dogs are in a stressful situation they will either stop eating no matter what the food is or they want to consume every eatable they may see. This show sucks. If anyone came to my door like that I'd tell them to get their court order and then I"d sue. Who pays for those forced vet visits?

I had larger dogs all my life, the beagles that were common when I was a kid (oldest of five) were smallest. Then goldens, shepherds, when my dad passed I inherited his still young-ish mix of the two (protective until she got to know a visitor then turned into typical Golden, willing to help the visitor load their car up with anything about the house in trade for dog treats). Having lost the family home to medical bills, and then in senior apt, I now have a chihuahua I adore (and yes I dress her in warm clothes, she has very shorthair, she needs it) BUT one and all lived up to the saying engraved on band ring: All My Rescue Dogs Have Rescued Me.

I've regularly adopted senior dogs 🐕 over the past 15 yrs and I will continue to do so for as long as I'm physically able.
Yes you may not have them with you as long as you like but it is quality time.
What each of my fur babies have taught me throughout the years is this "money comes and go's but time is something that can never be replaced. I'm so proud to be thier mumma.

    • @leslieshand4509

I’ve often thought about getting a senior dog. I love puppies but I’m too old for a puppy , but I’d love a companion. I’m very, very lonely

    • @natahliak7691
      @natahliak7691 ปีที่แล้ว

@Leslie shand The pros about having senior dogs is that they don't require to much if any training. Usually they're extremely calming and cuddly and they don't require quite as much exercise as a young puppy would.
Cons: You won't have a long time with them but in saying that it can also be a pro if you can't commit 10 -15 yrs.
Being a senior they can come up with medical problems which will require $ and extra care time.
I'm lucky because I have the time and physical stamina to care for a sick senior dog and my dear friend has the $ to pay for medical cost and we both reap the love and joy our babies bring us.
If you feel you can't make such a commitment then maybe look into doggie sitting perhaps.
My aunty feels that she's to old for a continuous commitment so she doggie sits for a handful of people when they go on holidays ect.
They just bring the dogs to her house and they all love it.

I would like an older companion but right now I cannot face their shorter lives. I am still grieving the loss of my 2 best friends, one was a wonderful dog🐕 one was a wonderful cat 🐈
They were each others 😔 friends & my beloved ♥ companions of the heart.
If my grief subsides, I will get an older pet. They deserve good, kind, loving ❤ homes. I will open my home & heart ❤ 💜💕💕❣ because I wil need them as much as they'll need me. I have lived a long life with dogs and cats always 💕 in my life. I think the elder dogs 🐕 🤔 and cats 🐈 get that part of me that is old. I am old. I am nearing the end of my own life.
Remember, the older ones are blessings AND they bring joys, too. When my heart ❤ can open up, and it will, perhaps unexpectedly, I will have a companion nearing the ends of theirs. I cannot live my life without their companionship & sweetness.

They ease our grief when friends die, which is all to common at this stage of our lives, and they are another beating heart in the home. Our vet charges us $500 for cleaning, anesthesia, blood work and removal of how ever many teeth must be taken out. Also includes any post op medications needed. I live in Southern California. Many Vets have extremely high base operations costs. From payroll and taxes. To basics such as rent/mortgage and the ever rising costs of various insurances one MUST carry by law and the need to protect the practice. There are HUGE differences in just those very basic costs both nationally and individual cities.

@@koniroyval9557 That kind of stuff is horrible. I will do anything for my dog, but these vet bills are crazy. Insurance companies are a scam, they are the ones that make the laws that force them to carry their insurance. I think vets are animal lovers and hate to charge so much, at least I would like to think so. I am single no kids, and my dog is my family. That may seem odd to some, but I love my dog like family.

If you're regularly seeing and petting your dogs, you'll notice if they get thin. Our Schnauzer became quite thin and sick in his last year. There was no mistaking it. Just seeing this Yorkie on the screen, it was hard to tell he was underweight, but I'm sure if you were petting him and seeing him in person, you'd notice the bones poking out. Of course, weighing them is also helpful.

Seemed like Taz was the smalest of the five yorkies that lady had. Counting in his bad teeth and knee problem, the other dogs probably ate his potion too and he couldn't do anything about it. We had that problem with one of our guinea pigs. He was very slow and took ages to realise, when other piggies had stolen his food. He would look around like he didn't understand what had happend. We had to feed him in a separet area, so the other piggies would leave him eat in peace.

@@HeavensMemory I've got 3 rescued dogs and have to watch to be sure that my pup doesn't try to take my older dog's food; unfortunately, they'll just move out of the way and let her take it away from them.... lol, even though both of them are around 75 lbs and the little one is about 25lbs & even though she's the newest in the family, she thinks she's the boss dog.

My dog that I had to put down last fall had serious separation anxiety, same thing as this dog. She broke a window above my kitchen sink, and jumped out while I was at work. I put up with it for 10 years. Then I happened upon my dog that I still have, ad that solved the problem. Hannah my dear departed dog was fine and mellow when you were around, but she just could not be alone. Had I known having a second dog would have solved the problem, I would have done that years ago.

I had a lady lie to me about a dog's age. She said she was 8.
She had been badly abused but I never gave up on her ❤
She passed away a year after I adopted her, and on my birthday. So it was a hard day.
I like to think I gave her the best last few months of her life. Anyway, we thought it was weird that she just suddenly passed so we took her for an autopsy. Turns out she was actually 14.
Thing is, I still would have adopted her. But I would have taken her into the vet every few months and made some different choices for her old age if I knew!
She was a white Maltese schnauzer. So we couldn't really tell that she was that old 🥺💔

Caesar Milan was able to work with separation anxiety dogs but he had time and could also do concentrated work. The pet owner didn't have the training herself or the time, and had already lost a lot of her apartment. She needs one that 's older and doesn't care about her walking out the door for work. I've had many, many dogs in my sixty-plus years, and never had one that trashed the house like that poor animal. I'm so glad he has the young man to spend time with.

It's been difficult to find the whole episode variety that was available a few years ago, but I'll survive, even if I have to cave and purchase some DVDs. But lately I've been watching Vet on the Hill which I also find quite interesting, along with a few of their affiliate vet programs. Seeing the episode with the filthy flea infested home just made me start itching all over.

Pro trainer here, please note, getting rid of your dog because of seperation anxiety is NOT the only option. There are training aids and options out there, and ideally, the best solution, is to work on separation training from the day they come home, so they do not end up with separation anxiety to begin with. It is about teaching the dog, or cat, that its ok to be alone, and your coming back.

All 5 of our furbabies eat dinner at the same time, just have their own serving bowls. We cook boneless, skinless chicken breasts in boiling salted water..(just half a tsp). Once done, chicken is removed and then brn rice is cooked . We dice up 2 one pound bags of broccoli, califlower and carrots. Mix each afternoon meal in a bowl with the veggies, shredded chicken, vitamins then topped off each bowl with cottage cheese. 3 of our little ones are over 14 and had some teeth removed. While our latest rescue,a thrown out 16 pound white terrier who is missing a front leg,is now 10 and also missing the majority of her teeth. All NEED ,a soft food. Odie is our youngest at age 5 in April. He also was dumped. Took the tiny jack Russell/Chihuahua to the vet the next morning. Poor boy had parvo. For the want of a $15 vaccination, we spent $1450 plus to get the little nut job health! While they DO get 3 meals a day, kibble is always ready just in case. And NO,NOT one over eats. Just sweet love bugs. Total weight of all five? 41 Pound.

@@LuckyBadger Yes, except the families that raised them with their children since they were puppies, in a wonderful attentive home. The dogs killed the two small children, one being held by her mother. Mom was in a coma. There are breed traits, and until people admit to that and understand that it could happen even in a good home, these things will continue. It's sad, but some people can't face the fact that dogs bred to fight can turn in an instant with potentially fatal results.
